I for some reason didn't feel much like drawing since I was planning out a layout for a site *mockups* but I thought it would be a good idea to just go on about some things I found or tried in 2d.. I'll try to keep the posts in this thread self contained and basically in this general genre or category.

2d art for comics *regardless on resolution blurb*

Over the years, my obsession with drawing has led me to drink a lot of different "how to draw" books. A certain author I came across seemed to know a ton about his stuff *christopher hart* and others *except john buscema and stan lee <-writer..* seemed to be regurgitating the same stuff as everyone else, and confusing the reader even more than they already were..

*tangibles* christopher hart -> http://www.chrishartbooks.com/
stanlee johnbuscema -> http://www.amazon.com/How-Draw-Comics-Marvel-Way/dp/0671530771

A few things seemed to resurface more than others on a lot of the different literature that I came across *yeah.. I can't count how many different drawing books I took from the library each time I stopped over if I couldn't sit to read them*

First.. There was drawing characters..
Second.. Drawing scenes..
Third.. Perspective..

First:
As we all know *ok.. not all* usually there's a way you go about drawing characters.. you know, using guidelines? -If you're just starting out, it's great! The more you draw and seem to turn it into something personal, you start realizing how limiting they are.. and also HOW GENERIC!!

Second: Drawing scenes. Somewhere between when the author talks about perspective and comic composition, you'll get a few pages wasted on certain settings..

Third: Perspective.. This was a nightmare.. just when you think you understand it, try using it. Go on.. try!.. Only one book managed to explain this silly subject to me.. and surprisingly enough, it wasn't a huge book either.. maybe I needed someone to dumb things down for me..

->> guess which awesome book on this page taught me this trick.. ->highlight to see the answer -> how to draw batman <- It was soo simple! If all your characters are 7 heads tall.. draw one of them regular size.. if the character is two heads under the horizon line.. count the same number of heads for every character.. the further back, the smaller you draw them..

From this moment on, I just drew comics like crazy.

But just so you don't feel like I've turned your attentive viewership into a rant witnessing.. I'll give you a tutorial on this sometime.. but with a ball on the ground instead.. even if you don't know how to draw.. you'll definitely know perspective.. *lol.. even if you can't count to ten, you'll definitely learn multivariable calculus ~~* lol.. anyways.. -end of rant-

Software..

Of the uh... free software that I could legally get my hands on, I like open canvas the best. -the first version is free, but all the new ones cost money.

Some others that I've tried are: gimp -it's good if you want to do just about anything photoshop-y.. and stuff, but for some reason I see it as overkill if I just want to draw some circle or fool around.. -you know, like using a flamethrower when you just want to light a candle... not that I've lit one this year...

Project dogwaffle's another one.. the new versions cost money. I didn't give links because if you're really interested, you'll google and do your research!

Painting rant..

I've tried it.. believe it or not. The best way I've found to paint digitally is to paint huge blobs of certain colors, then to draw the smaller details on that..

Or draw what's underneath, then cover that.. then cover that.. then. *odd realization* -ok if your mind's not right, don't even pick up a brush.

smile -I'm just passing on what I like to do.. what's kept me happy when not much else did. I just hope it brings whoever takes it's path the same good fortune *not completely monetarily* as it brought me.

I used to draw alot in junior high and high school but gave it up for other pursuits....sadly most of them male. Maybe one of the nights when you come over i will pull out some of my drawing for you.

In my would be artist life.. I've never really got team projects up and running. Either I wasn't up to it, or the members had other priorities.. I can count how many people I've known who'd spend hours working on a project and expecting nothing in return except some company and I guess fun with paper..
Then again that's probably a good thing. I think it means the people I know have minds of their own and would rather do what's meaningful to them.. I guess if passing time with me sums up to being meaningful, then.. that can't be bad.. -this would probably never have run in my mind a year ago..
