They were meeting today in one of the terrain rooms, the one that was like a field of flowers though not really because it would be helpful to the class but because it had a nice atmosphere. They were playing another game today, instead of Memory or Simon it was a slightly more complicated one. Chess.
Orpheus enjoyed the game well enough though he was quite rusty, it would be a learning experiance for them both but more important for Liang. With her DNA she might end up pretty good at this game, it was one that taught strategy. He had a table set up along with the board, the white and black pieces had been set up and he was taking down a few notes on his clipboard while awaiting his student.
When she arrived he would explain what they were doing today and then let her choose which color she wanted to play.

Somehow, Liang wished she didn't have to come alone.
She should have put more effort into persuading Huang Di; having the dragon besides her helped to calm her nerves. She didn't feel too comfortable being with others still, though it was with Mister Orpheus, whom she had met before. He was a nice teacher, and even Alora had said so.
Oh well, as Yourie said, it would help her be more independent. Taking a deep breath she knocked on the door before entering the classroom and greeted the teacher with a small smile. "Hello Mister Orpheus." Her voice didn't betray the slight jitters she felt inside and she kept her poise. It was just a class. It would be fine.

Orpheus looked up from his clipboard, turning toward the winged girl and gave her a smile, "Welcome to another of my classes Liang." He greeted her rising to his feet and left the clipboard on the table. He noted her nervousness and gave her what he hoped would be an assuring smile, "Today we are going to be playing Chess, have you ever heard of the game?"

Playing? Liang blinked, looking slightly surprised. Her skill was a...game?
Upon further thought, wasn't her previous skill class also a game? It was just his way of making the lesson interesting. Pushing her worries aside, she decided that she would trust him. There had to be a reason behind this after all. "Chess?" She repeated. "Yes." Western chess, and Chinese chess, what she learned to be called the xiang qi.
But looking at the board, it seemed like she would be learning Western chess today.

He gave her a bit of a smile as she looked a bit surprised, then again it was the second class where they would be playing game together instead of doing something more physical like the very first class she'd taken with him, "Yes, its a game of strategy and it seemed fitting for you to learn."

"I see." Liang nodded. Now it did make sense...rather.
Having the DNA of a mythical animal could be so confusing at times.
"I've never played it before though." She frowned slightly. Liang wished she could have known beforehand so she could prepare and perhaps even practice a little. Learning would take a while.

"I'm not the best at it, been a while since I have been able to play. We will be learning together." He explained to her so she didn't worry to much over the learning of a new game, "If you want to take a seat and pick which color you like I will start to explain the rules."

"Alright." She grinned, feeling loads better, sitting on a side. "I'll pick white then." The color was pure and reminded her of her new sister.
With that, she looked up at Mister Orpheus, hands folded neatly on her lap, ready to learn.

"Sounds good." He said as he took the seat across from her and they were set up, "Alright, the trick to the game is that each piece can do a different thing. Like the ones that look like castle towers can move in a straight line as far as they want." He went through explaining the abilities of each piece, how the worked and what they could and couldn't do.
"Now the most powerful pieces are the King and Queen, the Queen can move in any direction straight and diagonal she wants as far as she wants, the King can do but only one square at a time. The most important part of the game is protecting the King, if he's taken then game is over."

Liang listened silently, her eyes resting on each piece as he explained the moves each could make. It was easy for her to remember this, and she revised it mentally in her head. Knight, two squares horizontally and one square vertically, or two squares vertically and one square horizontally, Rook, straight...
She nodded. "I think I've got it." Protecting the King and capturing the opponent's with her pieces. It would require some strategy and thinking.

"Alright, now you were very smart in your selection of color. They say that 'smoke comes before fire' which means that your white goes before my black." He told her, allowing her to choose her first move.
(( We don't have to play out the whole game post by post, move by move, we can move along as quickly as you like since we would need a board to really keep track of all the moves and it would make the class take a bit. ))

Liang smiled, revising the moves each could make while staring at each piece, thinking. It was a while after she moved her first piece.
As the game went on, Liang thought she was doing pretty decently. Sure, some of her pieces had been taken, but they were sacrifices. It was all part of trapping the opponent. "Your turn." She said quietly.

Orpheus watched the way she played each move, impressed as she picked up the game pretty quickly and soon enough she was acting as though she had played for a while. She made the sacrifices she had to, played smart and well, he was having to think carefully on each in an attempt to keep from losing.
He pondered a piece before moving it forward, "Your turn." He said, giving her a smile.

Liang paused, staring at the board again before moving forward the piece of her choice. "How does one win the game?"

"You need only to take my king with any of your pieces." He explained, tapping a finger against the one that was the king on his side of the board, "Its fairly simple." In theory at least, so long as you could around the rest of the pieces that were supposed to protect the king.
