Someone should've told Idili'su that it wasn't a good idea to mix pond water with grass juice and then drink it.
Or maybe somebody had told him but he had just ignored them? Whatever the case, Idili had taken up a new line of experiments: mixing things.
Brows furrowing and jaw clenching in a look of true concentration, Idili'su carefully crunched the shredded grass blades to extract the juice. Small drops fell slowly into his hollow rock bowl of pond water. As the drops of juice fell into the water, they swirled and mixed, creating strange ribbons of grayish green.
"Interethting..." Idili'su murmured to himself, face glowing with serious interest. As his head bent lower and lower to the water to see better, he found himself wishing to drink it. So he leaned his face down as close as he could to the water until the cool liquid touched his lips. Then he took a slow, studious lap with his tongue.
Bad mistake.
Idili'su spat and made raspberries, shaking his head and shouting about how vile it tasted. As he stumbled back, glaring and spitting, he backed into something; someone, rather. With a start, the little cub spun around. Standing in front of him was his sister, Veredhiel. Idili'su's heart skipped and beat in surprise and embarrassment. "Hello, thithter." he greeted. But then he narrowed his eyes. "...How much did you thee...?" he asked carefully.

Veredhiel squeaked and jumped back, blinking her wide eyes at her brother. She hadn't even seen Idili'su there; how was she supposed to know that she had been backing up so much that she would run into him.
The thing is, she had been watching this strange bug. And it had been crawling right towards her. So, being the cautious girl she is, Vere backed up. And kept backing up.
She walked backwards, kind of leading the bug to follow the path she set, until she could walk no more--that is, when she ran into her brother. The bug was completely forgotten and she bumbled with an apology.
"Isu! I didn't see you; I'm sorry. Are you okay? See? See what?" She blinked with a confused look on her face at her brother. Vere didn't see the rock bowl beside him, or the remains of the crushed grass blades. If she had, she probably wouldn't question his motives anyway.

Idili'su sighed loudly, relief flooding through him. His heart was still beating rapidly as he recovered from the shock of bumping into someone and the possibility of someone having seen him making a fool out of himself, but he was feeling much better. Except for Veredhiel calling him by that cutesy nickname...Why did people make nicknames, anyway?
"I'm okay," Idili answered his sister, reaching his back paw to scratch at an itch on his face. "but more importantly..." he began, dropping his foot and inching his way closer to his sister. His blue eyes widened as they focused, looking as if they could penetrate through consciousness. "...What were you doing?" he asked with suspicion. "You look pretty thneaky." And it was true. His dear sister had been stalking around herself, he was sure...But what had she been doing? She had said she didn't see him. And if she didn't see him, then...What had she been looking at? All these questions ran through Idili'su's mind and he narrowed his eyes in accusation.

"Sneaky? Isu, you know I'd never sneak up on you." Vere's friendly smile towards her brother turned down into one of the frowns she rarely showed. "I hate being sneaked up on; why would I do the same to you?" She was almost hurt, with that assumption she would sneak up towards her brother. How unkind of him.
"To be honest, I was...leading a bug." She avoided his glance. "It was really weird looking, and it kept following me. So I walked backwards, so I wouldn't lose it and I could watch it at the same time. And I guess I wasn't paying attention and I backed up into you. I'm sorry," she added once again. Vere didn't like the look in Isu's eyes. She was telling the truth. She'd never lie to him; she hated lying in the first place. It was such a deceitful and selfish thing.

"That ith jutht THO like you, Veredhiel." Idili'su sighed, closing his eyes, realizing the honesty in his sister. "But don't you know that it'th un-ladylike to be interethted in bugth?" he asked in a know-it-all way. In all honesty, Idili'su had probably heard that from some random individual and perhaps didn't fully understand why it would be un-ladylike, or even what being ladylike pertained. But Idili loved to know things others did not, and to tell others these things. Being smart was his favorite thing in the world.
"And you were thneaking." The cub corrected suddenly. "If I couldn't thee you and you were coming clother to me and I wath thurprithed, that'th thneaking."

Vere was not about to lie and say that her brother wasn't hard to understand with is lisp. In fact, when you put a lot of 's' words together, or ones that end in the letter, and make Isu say it? You're asking for some probable explanation to what in the world he was saying.
One of her eyebrows quirked up and she listened intently.
"I was not sneaking," she repeated, the frown still on her face. But now it was a hurt frown, because her brother didn't seem to believe her. "And I'm not interested in bugs," she retorted. Vere sat and turned her nose up slightly at Isu. She would never be interested in bugs. They were gross, slimy and crawly. They felt weird on your fur.
"It was just weird and it was following me. I didn't not want to watch it, so I had to walk backwards. If I was sneaking, wouldn't you have bumped into me so I was facing you, watching whatever it was you were doing?" Ha. That should shut him up for a little bit. But then, curiosity overcame her.
"What were you doing, anyway?"

Idili'su made a sharp hissing sound at his sister's question, body suddenly becoming rigid.
"WHAT! NOTHING!" he shouted, words coming out without tone. But then panic hit him.
His sister wanted to know what he had been doing so now she would look around even if he told her he wasn't doing anything because she would be curious and want to see and then she'd eventually find out what he was doing and he'd be embarrassed at his failed experiment and she'd laugh at him and call him names and call the others who'd also call him names and he'd end up looking like a FOOL!
Idili gasped, even though his long-winded thoughts hadn't used breath. But then his genius switch turned on. Idili'su narrowed his blue eyes carefully, a smile inching onto his face. "Nothing, Veredhiel..." he said calmly and quietly, calculation and plotting not so well-hidden behind his voice. "Jutht...Playing a game by mythelf." He shrugged cutely and tilted his head. But then his face snapped into enthusiasm, emotions switching far too quickly to be convincing. But it took a certain kind of person to notice that. "But now that YOU'RE here," Idili'su started loudly, jumping up and moving towards his sister. "we can play TOGETHER!"
Ha. That should shut her up for a little bit.

Vere couldn't help but stumble backwards a bit, almost falling again, when Isu seemingly yelled at her. That was scary. The face he made was one of...well, she didn't really know the proper words of how to describe such an expression, but it was scary.
"Playing?" The thought to look behind and around him to see if he was telling the truth, or to see what he was really doing, didn't even cross her mind. Her entire attention was focused on her current conversation with him right now. Vere had a very one-track mind, for the most part. Whatever she was doing was what she was doing, and concentrating on. She wasn't about to switch activities in the middle of one. She'd wait 'til she was done, think of another, and then do that one.
"What game were you playing? Sure, I'll play with you." Although she said the last bit hesitantly, not really sure what she was getting herself into with Isu.

"Hide and Theek." Idili'su answered flatly without hesitation.
Yes, Hide and Seek. That was the perfect game for them to play. Even when he was talking before, he had thought up the idea. It was so perfect. He just hoped everything would go according to plan...If it didn't, then...He'd just have to think of a plan B. But that would come later. Of course.
"Thinth I thought of the game, I'll let you be the one to hide. Thound fair?" the cub asked. Then he turned around, lied on his stomach, placed his red paws over his eyes and began to count, not pausing a moment to hear if his sister even wanted to play the game.
"One...Two...THREE..." Idili'su sounded out, getting louder the last few numbers in an attempt to spur his sister on into the game.

Hide and seek? Now, how did Isu get so good at guessing Vere's favorite games? With a giggle and happy squeal, she scrambled to leave him and find a good hiding spot. Where to hide?
There weren't really any good ones around this area. Figured. But Vere was very resourceful when she wanted to be. So she wiggled around after scanning the area for the millionth time, finding a decent spot inside a bush. The leaves weren't that big, but there were a lot of them, so she hoped that her bright red coat would be hard to see through the green leaves.
And, the way she crawled into the bush was so that her rear end was facing Isu instead of her head. Usually she liked to watch whoever was It, when she could, but playing with her brother had her all excited and she wasn't thinking straight.
She had dove in head first. As usual.
As he neared the last number, Vere hushed herself and stopped wriggling around. He would hear her! That would be awful, to be found because you made a noise. Tsk. That's the worst way to go in this game. She waited in anticipation for him to find her.

"Theven...Eight...Nine..." After that last number, Idili'su stopped his counting. He slid his paws from his face and flinched his ears, testing the sound around him. He couldn't hear his sister. He couldn't see her, either. So, she probably couldn't see him. It was time...For the PLAN.
Getting to his feet, the cub dusted himself off a bit. Then her ran to the site of his experiment and quickly collected all "evidence" of what had occurred there. He shuffled the leaves into the dirt, soaked the water into the ground and covered it with dust, then he took the rock bowl into his teeth and made his escape.
As he was leaving, he couldn't help the frown that came to his face.
"Thithterth are tho gullible thometimeth..." he murmured, teeth grinding against rock. He did feel a bit sorry for her...But then he grinned. "Well, thith will be a lethon to her." he said decidedly, suddenly feeling like a great teacher. And with that, Idili'su scampered away, over rocks and through grass, until he was safe in the den again.
And he wondered, grinning, just how long would his sister stay hidden?
