This is the joint journal of Lissome Llia's two Sim'Arei, names are above. It's not really out of bounds; I'm fine with people posting the randomest of things as long as they put what they say in ((double-brackets)) - unless of course you're paying Yor and Yir a visit while IC, in which case drop me a profile comment to ask and then go ahead and post.

Eulogy

In their human lives, these two were childhood sweethearts. They grew up across the street from each other. His name was Rylerion. Hers was Sylvana.

When they were old enough to play in the sand they made a promise to marry one day. Neither of them ever remembered this.

When they were proper children, Vana dropped a favourite doll into the town's dry river bed. Ryllie broke his arm retrieving it for her. The doctor was drunk, and told three people to seize hold of the arm and pull it into position - except they pulled the wrong way and the bone came through Ryllie's skin. An amputation followed.

Ryllie became withdrawn and quiet. He never blamed Vana once. She tossed all her dolls in a bonfire, and gifted him a spork and a knork on his next birthday.

They grew into teenagers, seeing each other as friends. He was her confidante through the ups and downs of her life, from the first boy she has a crush on to the heartbreak and the separation of her parents.

One day she invited him to the annual dance for the summer festival. He thinks the town will laugh at him for trying to dance one-armed, but accepts to make her happy. They actually have a good time. Too much wine is drunk - they kiss. Nothing much else happens - but each of them return home in bliss.

Unfortunately the wine turns out to be poisoned. Like many of the town's youth, they perish overnight. First they were mourned. Then they were forgotten. After all, there were no generations after to remember them.

Character Profiles*

Yor'Thae
The older and quieter half of the duo. This tendency not to talk much is a residual effect of his past life - his missing arm unsettled the townspeople and caused them to shun him. As such, he does not usually take the initiative to step forward and introduce himself to others, preferring that they come to him instead.
However, this does not mean he is shy - he enjoys the company of others and is quite chatty when around those who know him well, or are trying to get to know him well. Yor is extremely faithful to those he considers friends, and increasingly self-sacrificial for them as they become closer to him. He is usually the mediator in conflict as the voice of reason.

Yir'Thia
Younger and rasher than Yor, Yir seems like his polar opposite despite having been best friends with him for a human lifetime (albeit one that was shortened untimely). She loves making friends and starting activities together, though sometimes what she terms "fun" can be dangerous or lead to trouble. And during these times, guess who steps in to save her?
If there is anything Yor has taught Yir in their years of friendship, it is how to be kind to others. As such, Yir has a rather giving nature. This is not to say that she is generous to the point of stupidity, but rather that she is willing to share and compromise with others. The impetuous young village beauty who never fully bloomed in human life, has matured fully as a Dreamer.

*Written from what they will be as adults, so that I won't forget to stay in-character. Subject to change in the way they relate to each other. ;D

Random Note: I decided to make this a journal instead of a PRP, because I wanted a place where all three settings could meet - The Dream World where Yor and Yir head to when manipulating dreams of children, the Human World in the past detailing their history together, and Dreamers' Island where they meet as Sim'Arei and grow up.

The Whitloe River runs swift and clear, away from Lake Rylan and through the forest. The water sparkles and glints strangely every once in a while, as if charged with an otherworldly energy; fitting for Dreamers' Island, inhabited by creatures that possessed some form of magic themselves.

Along its way to the sea, Whitloe passes under a large tree, bent over the water as if it was admiring its own reflection. And at the base of this very tree facing away from the bank, a pair of Sim'Arei plushies - one black, one white, were lumped together side-by-side. They were intricately decorated with tattoos and jewellery, and they stood out strangely against the natural scenery about them.

Then the wind began to blow, and one of them started to change...

The black pup awoke for the first time in a world entirely new to him. He lay there, belly on the ground, just enjoying being alive again. He had missed having a physical form very much; even if this one wasn't human, as long as his best friend was with him everything would be fine.

With a content sigh, he rose from the soft turf and padded over to the river bank, drinking quietly and glancing anxiously back at the white plushie all the while. It lay still motionless at the base of the tree.

"What could be taking her so long?" He wondered.

Llia opened the brown package-box to find two plushies inside, and sighed. The gifts had come far too late - their intended recipients had already left town. Unfortunately, bad weather that had delayed everything arriving by post, and the family had left the minute the skies had cleared.

She lifted the plushies out and hugged them to herself, pretending they were children... she missed the two she had tutored for years badly. Such well-behaved kids, and bright ones too.

There was a note at the bottom of the package. Llia read it, frowned, and tossed it and the box out with the trash. Of course she'd look after the plushies properly. A great pity people had to be told, yes, told to take care of their own belongings. Goodness. She gently laid the two plushies side by side on her bedside drawer, under the lamp.

"They're just like I wanted them to be, Yin and Yang style," she thought to herself. "I'll call them Yor'thae and Yir'thia."

Anxious, he headed back to the plushie again, convinced something had gone wrong. One moment, he was touching it nose-to-nose, the next -

She blinked up at him once, then pounced on him, with scarcely a warning besides the slightly lopsided smile he knew so well.

"Gotcha," she said, resting her front paws on top of his chest.

His blue eyes widened in surprised delight. "Hey, geroff me!" He replied, trying to roll her off. It was only then that he became aware he had two "arms" again. He ceased struggling and stared at his left foreleg, rotating it about and bending it and such in wonder.

Her gaze was in his direction, but her eyes saw something else: him as a young man, laughing gaily, paired with her for the last dance. She wondered if he remembered, too.

Something twinged in his consciousness, and he rose, looking about him wildly. "Did... did you hear that?"

"Hear what?" She inquired, head tilted.

He shook his head, a puzzled frown on his face. "Maybe... maybe it was just the wind." He gradually sank back on his haunches again, no longer in a playful mood. "Vana, please don't think I've gone crazy or anything, but I now have the overwhelming feeling my name is Yor'Thae."

"I'll be crazy with you." She nudged him gently. "For some reason I've thought my name to be Yir'Thia since I woke up.

Something strange is going on. Also... how did we end up with all this jewellery?" She looked about as puzzled as he did for a moment, then giggled. "You... you have an earring!"

"What!" He rushed over to the riverbank again, inspecting his ear. Sure enough, there it was: an opaque, pointed thing. It was so light he hardly felt it, and far enough along his ear that it dangled out of sight. He pawed at it, bewildered.

Yir was beside him in an instant. "I like it. Gives you a rakish look. Besides, I've got one too." She turned her head to show him; hers was identically shaped, and purple.

Looking at the rest of the jewellery Yir was wearing, Yor supposed he had comparatively been spared the worst of it, and felt relieved. "I guess, but... you know I'm no rebel." His expression changed to one of concern. "It's not too heavy for you, I hope? If it is, I can help you get the worst of it off."

"It's alright. It doesn't feel like real gold, anyway." She stretched. "Uhm. I don't know about you, but I'm hungry.

I wonder what we eat?" Yir was quickly reminded that they were no longer physically human.

"Grass?" Yor nibbled a blade, and pulled a face before downing several gulps of water. "Ugh, that was terrible." He brightened up. "Hey, I'll be your personal food tester!"

Yir gazed into the forest. "I don't think there's a need for that... this place just doesn't feel like anything dangerous or poisonous would grow here, ever. Ananke has created a true haven." She blinked, and peered into the distance. "Hey, do you see those blobs of colour?"

Yor felt slightly disappointed when she flatly turned down his offer, but he shoved his feelings aside to look as well.

"The ones high up in the branches, right? Do you think they're fruit?"

"We won't know unless we head over and find out." Yir's cheerful optimism was effusive, as usual. It was like sunlight; it washed over everyone around her and made them feel comfortably warm.

"Race you there!" So saying, the white cub ran towards her next meal, her counterpart in hot pursuit.

"Garrrrr." Eyes still shut, Llia groped around until she found the snooze button. Blast alarm clocks. She loved mornings, but she always woke easier to sunshine than to mechanical ringing.

There was the curious feeling of missing something, much like the time she'd woken up in the middle of the night and finally admitted to herself her cat was dead and she would no longer have a bundle of fur and love to hug at dawn.

It occurred to her when she opened her eyes. The plushies were gone.
