(totally fails at titles)
There was nothing much odd about the day that had broken clear and hot on the savannah. The bugs were swarming, the wildebeests roaming as they will, and the sky white-blue with heat. But anyone who knows anything understands that it is odd to see a female leopard walking along the plains, without a tree in sight. It wasn't so odd that it made anyone stare, or stop, but odd enough that there was a wariness in the eyes of those she passed.
Fortunately for them, Kalyani was not much of a threat to anyone, not even herself. Humming mildly to herself, she stopped in spurts as she made her way along, lingering to smell a flower, or to watch some ants on their parade. It was slow going, her pilgrimage, but Kalyani didn't mind much. She often forgot where she was heading, or even if she was going in the right direction but she would remember after a time. And then off she would go again, before a new distraction dragged her off course.
She was enjoying herself that morning, as the distractions on the plains were few and far between. Her heavy tail swinging to and fro, she made her way to a small watering hole, startling some wildebeests that had stopped to take a drink. Plunging her muzzle in to the water, she drank hungrily, ignoring the dark looks of the others that shared the water. She was disrupting the calm pond, but she didn't care much, or even think on it more than a second.
Looking up, her eyes landed on a stranger and she winked obliquely. What fun could be had this morning?

Perhaps it was the fact that the stranger himself had hungered to quench his thirst, or perhaps he was just that dense this morning, but it seemed that he was no more aware of the female than she had really been of anyone else at first. His sides ached from the path he had run, his breathing only beginning to slow to a normal pace, and his throat burned as the cool water rushed over the raw flesh. It was only the heavy necklace around his neck, composed of feathers and gems and glinting like a beacon where it lay against his chest, that told him his brush with danger had been worth it. He had gotten his prize.
It was with a wicked smile at his own thoughts that he turned his eyes up and away from his own reflection, licking the last remnants of water from his maw. That was when his gaze found the female, and that rather random wink he wouldn't have expected. He supposed that if today had proved to be an interesting one thus far, it was only going to become more so. Never one to ignore a direct invitation, which was most assuredly what he assumed such to be, he pushed himself up onto his paws and began to make his way around the edge of the watering whole to where she sat instead.
"Good day, my lady," he said with a dip of his head, pale eyes shutting as he did so. Despite his profession, Persaon could be a perfect gentlemen when he wanted to, though it was more often for sleazy reasons than noble ones.

Kalyani had crept to the waters edge several times, her nose touching the cool water sending a shock through her system. She hungrily devoured a mouthful and then sat down on the grass to enjoy it, sighing as her body temperature cooled. So intent was she on her shuffle to the water, that when she lay down again she realized that she had been ignoring a fine specimen of leopard for some time.
Not knowing if she had put him off at all, Kalyani grinned despite herself, her eyes resting on his "prize". Nodding once, she growled softly under her breath, her attempt at a chuckle.
"You must be confusing me with someone else, young sir, as I am not known to act ladylike at any point in time."
Kalyani could be decidedly eloquent when she put her mind to it.
Her tail swished happily. Today was turning up to be quite a fine one.

A light smirk curled upon the maw of the young leopard, eyes dancing with amusement as he sat down before her. His long tail curled around his forelegs, his pale eyes resting on her for a moment, though for what reason exactly was probably hard to tell. The chuckle-like growl barely audible from her throat was enough to tell him to be at ease, and the smirk he wore became a little more easy going while his whole body relaxed visibly.
"I don't think so as you're certainly the only one I'm talking to," he added, his own chuckle mixing deep within his words, eyes narrowing slightly with his mirth, "and there are many different attributes to a lady, to be certain." Oh, he prided himself on his ability to sweet talk, to be so suave. Very rarely did it come back to bite him, and those few occasions were more amusing than anything else in his memories.
A thief with a gentleman's facade, a joker, and a downright underhanded trickster. He was a lot of things, but at least he was sweet in the process.

The shade was a blessing in the already hot sun, and Kalyani languished in the subtle respite, eyes half closed, but focused on the other leopard.
He was interesting, not like those other tree dwellers that Kalyani had ran in to on her quest towards the Voice. They had sneered at her, calling her names as she plodded ponderously on, and while she shook off their catcalls, she was unwilling to let them fade from her mind. But he seemed interested in her, at least as interested as a male can be in a female. Kalyani was many things, but dense was not one of them. If anyone knew her long enough to comment on her, one might say that she had a sharply focused but untrained mind; she was more likely to wax poetic on the stems of flowers than to stalk prey for hours. It wasn't to say that she wasn't a good hunter (though she was only capable), it was more that she just didn't have the patience to take down something larger than waterfowl.
"My name is Kalyani," she interjected suddenly, breaking the silence, "I'm on a quest. I think."
It was still rather hazy to her.

He watched her intently, every little movement she made, judging and picking out any hint or sign that he could use to his advantage. There were advantages to every sort of female, that was certain. The dense ones were the easiest, but they didn't provide him with much of a challenge, or mental stimulation quite worth his time. The ones with a sharp mind, however, often turned out to be too wise to his game, though there were those rare few that threw him for a loop. Those were usually the best, in his opinion; he liked surprises.
As to this one, well, he was having a few difficulties figuring her out. He wasn't sure if she was dense, as that sort mental affliction didn't always make itself known at the beginning of a conversation, and the lazy way their conversation was rolling out made it hard to judge how sharp she was as well. He supposed this might be more effort than he bargained for, but as long as his smiles and compliments kept him on the right path, he would pursue it. What else did he have to do today?
"Kalyani? What a beautiful name," he cooed, letting his eyes drift shut slowly for a moment, only opening when he returned with, "mine is Persaon. Though, feel free to call my Persy if you'd rather, I find that the whole thing is a bit to impersonal for my tastes." He laughed lightly, then seemed to remember that she had spoken about something else. Oh, right, some jabber about a quest or something. Well, he might as well humor her, he supposed. "A quest, what sort of quest?"

Kalyani knew where this conversation was going, and smiled widely at Persaon. He was interesting, in a sort of single minded way. It was refreshing to Kalyani, who could never be described as single minded.
She nodded when he stated his name, and ducked her head mock-sheepishly when he mentioned the beauty of her name. For it was a game, and she was interested in playing it.
"Persy? Rather familiar for two that have barely met. But you may call me Kaly if you so desire," Kalyani shifted restlessly, accidentally (on purpose) touching her paw to his in her movement, "though if we are being this familiar with each other I suppose I could fill you in on my quest."
Kalyani sighed. It was not important that he learn of her true destination, as Kaly herself was ambling rather aimlessly towards her goal, but it was important to reel him in with interesting (at least in her mind) conversation. Kaly was rather bad at this whole business but thought she was rather good at it. The whole flirtatious banter was lost on her in the sense that it didn't thrill her at all, it only led her to say something equally flirtatious but badly phrased. Kaly never did well with others.
"Its not really a quest as much as I have someplace I must go. But I'm not sure exactly where I'm going. Its more of a wander than a quest."

"Kaly has a sweetness to it, I admit" his smile lit with his words, the greenish tints of his eyes dancing with a mischievous mirth, "I do believe I like that very much." He flexed the toes of his paw with a slight quirk of his brow as she 'accidentally' brushed it. He shifted to a comfortable laying position then, relaxing, and letting said paw stretched out a little closer to her as he tucked the other up comfortably against his chest. "I think being unnecessarily formal makes first meetings really awkward," he shrugged as he said it, smirking lightly as he looked around. "Why spend all that time being formal and awkward when we could be having a much more pleasant time?" His emphasis on the word pleasant was said with a raised brow, an implication there that he didn't go into detail over.
His gaze drifted out over the small watering hole momentarily as she began to speak, listening as she explained her rather complicated little 'quest'. It didn't sound to him like much of a quest at all, but then, what did he know of quests? He wouldn't describe the things he did on an almost-daily basis as quests. He was fairly certain the a quest required two parties - the quester and the person whom assigned said quest.
"That sounds more like a mystery to me," he said with a soft chuckle. "You have to go somewhere, but you don't know where. Do you know, at least, what you're supposed to be doing? Or, rather, what you're going to be doing once you get there?" He narrowed his eyes lightly as if he were truly thinking hard about her quest, then, with a slight quirk at the corner of his lips, he leaned in to speak to her - bringing his maw closer to hers. It served to appear as if he simply wanted to speak to her on a more personal level, but then, it also brought the pair closer together. "How do you know once you find that place?"

"Yes, yes a quest," Kalyani bludgeoned on, her mind elsewhere, "I am called by a strong voice to find someone- she's not exactly clear and its rather confusing but ambling along towards where she directs me seems to shut her up."
Falling silent for a moment, Kalyani sighed, "and don't start questioning whether I am mad, for I know when a goddess, even a heathen lion one, calls on me."
Trying to change the subject, Kalyani butted her head against his necklace, an obvious question on her face.
"That looks like some story, Persy. More so than my quest. I do love," Here, Kalyani raised her head and sighed heavily, "distractions"

One brow arched minimally as she began to ramble on about her quest, letting his mind form it's own judgements on the matter although he did his best to keep his face carefully schooled. He'd never heard of anyone that heard voices, at least not anyone real - he just never supposed it was actually possible. If he weren't so keen on getting her attention, he might have assumed the worst of her.
"I would never think such a thing," he said with a small frown, both brows raising a fraction as if to imply he was surprised she'd think such a thing of him, before he simply shook his head with the smallest chuckle. "No, I believe that you truly trust your instincts, and I would never fault that in anyone. So few of us truly have the guts to follow our heart, or mind, when something so grand befalls us." The words rolled off his tongue, sugar-coated and filled with all the grandeur he could muster - the king of sweet talking.
He let her shift the tides of the conversation, however, and knew it was coming when her face took on that look. What he was supposed to expect from her, he wasn't sure, because even he didn't know how to read someone like her in such a short amount of time - she was a character, he'd give her that. When she asked, however, his face split wide into a charming grin, and he let out a chuckle at her gentle butt against the necklace. "Ah, this? There is a story here indeed, and I'd love to tell you," he said with a little smile, though as he continued to speak, his voice grew quiet and his face a little somber as he leaned into her, "but you wouldn't be able to tell another soul. It could get me in a terrible amount of trouble, I'm afraid."
If she wanted a distraction, he could give her one, he was rather deft at distractions, and that thought alone curved his lips into a smirk.
