Syoto looked out over the land. The mountain grasses swayed gently in the breeze. Creatures skittered over the ground, going about their blissful existance. Normally Syoto would consider these creatures snacks, for Ithnan to catch and feed to his ruler. But today, the creatures were his subjects. After all. Syoto wasn't only King of Dragons, he was... KING OF THE MOUNTAINS.

Surely these lands were those of his forefathers! Even if he had no idea who those forefathers could be... they must have been someone important, however... No matter! For the moment, Syoto was ruler of the lands, no matter who had come before him. HE was king of the mountains!

The King of the Mountain's stomach grumbled, and once again the creatures skittering across the ground were nothing but mere snacks. Snacks which Syoto's loyal servant would gladly catch and give up to his master.

"Ithnan," Syoto snapped, "your ruler requires nourishment, if we are to continue this trek of our lands. Fetch me some food! ... And no snakes or worms or anything! They feel to creepy going down..." The self-proclaimed monarch shuddered, recalling the time he'd swallowed a snake, not just because he was hungry, but to show that he was master over all creatures.

It turned out that the snake had been minorly poisonous, and Syoto had spent the rest of the night hiding out in a bush with great intestinal discomfort. Not the most uplifting position for a King.

Ithnan -who was previously occupying himself by pouncing slow moving beetles and watching in awe as they flew off when he let them go, shimmering pleasantly- snapped his head up when his name was called and snapped himself to a straight sitting position, listening for his orders. His tail swayed a bit, and he bowed and took a few steps [never turn your back to your king, after all] before turning completely and jumping down the hilly mountainside. He was practically nose-diving, and yet the dragon somehow managed to work with the tumbling rocks to help himself get down the mountain faster and smoother. His nose tipped to the air, and he sniffed for some food source, and his senses zoned in on something. Immediately, he changed direction, and managed to spook a small family of rabbits. A brief pause that barely was a pause, and he went after the one who took the roughest path.

By the time he dove for the thing, he ended up with his nose stuck in a gopher hole. Whimpering, he pulled and pulled himself backward, before yanking himself loose, and then rolling backward down the hillside for quite a few yards. When he got up again, he noticed the retreat of a few furry tails, and looked curiously at what they'd run off from. He tiptoed up to the carcass, and sniffed it, though that really wasn't needed. With Ithnan's noisy approach, they'd scattered, and left an almost-complete deer lying in the middle of a field! He tore off a piece for himself and swallowed it quickly, to keep his King from waiting, and got to work on tearing one of the rear flanks off. It didn't seem to be working in his favor, and he may as well have been trying to drag the entire deer up the hillside.

Syoto sighed and settled himself down on the rock, wondering how long it would take his servant to return with some grub. He never really told this fact to his attendant - bad for moral, and all that - but Ith really wasn't the best hunter in the mountains...

Sad to say, but the pink and black dragon was in fact a better hunter than Syoto! Mostly because the 'King of Dragons' had always found it easier to let Ithnan do the work rather than chase after his targets on his own.

He began to scratch things on the rock on which he lay, idley etching his royal symbol: a star, with smaller stars on either side. Hmm... That didn't look half bad! Maybe Ithnan could find some blueberries later, and he could finish the royal sign. This rock would be marked as a relic of Syoto, the Dragon King! And he could call it... Syoto rock! Yes, that was a very good name... Syoto rock...
