"Your references check out," Adrian was saying as he shuffled a packet of papers. "And the 'management' already said you could live here, so that's all set. Anything else I should know about you?"
Sitting across the table from him was his most recent applicant for the position of live-in maid: a young man by the name of Soco.
At first glance, it was difficult to tell that he was a man. His effeminate features and frilly outfit made people look twice. He was also sporting a pair of rabbit ears -- a fact that amused Adrian to no end. Soco would fit right in with the strange group that lived in the mansion.
"Nothing that I can think of," Soco replied. He kept his hands folded in his lap and sat up straight in his chair. Since Adrian had no need for an office at the mansion, the two were going over paperwork in the dining room.
"Well, let me outline a few duties I expect for you to take care of," Adrian said as he began counting off on his fingers. "The dining room, the front entrance, the living room. I'll show you which of the bathrooms need regular cleanings. The dojo, the kitchen, my room, and my kid's rooms aren't your responsibility, and don't let the kids trick you or pay you to clean their rooms for them. I want them to have at least a little sense of responsibility. There are some spare rooms that are never used, so you won't have to worry about those. Then there are Kanth's rooms and her kid's rooms, same deal. You'll be expected to dust, sweep, and whatever else throughout the hallways. Have I lost you yet?"
"No, sir."
"Oh, good. I'll show you where all the cleaning supplies and clean drapes are. If we run out of anything, there's a list on the fridge on the kitchen. If you ever want to, I can give you some money and you can do the shopping." Adrian paused. "I can't think of anything else. Oh, your room. I'll show you which one is yours, and you can do whatever you'd like to it, within reason."
"Yes, sir."
Adrian snorted in amusement. "Being called 'sir' is so weird," he commented. "But, anyway. Would you like a tour of the house?"
Soco smiled. "Yes, sir, I would."
They walked through the house, Adrian pointing out which rooms would need to be cleaned and which ones wouldn't, while Soco took mental notes and tried not to trip over any of the little creatures playing around his feet. The little ones ignored him and Adrian in favor of chasing each other up and down the halls.
Another pink-haired teenager stepped out of the bathroom and was headed for his room across the hall, but then paused in mid-step as he spotted Adrian and Soco. He stared at the newcomer, and Soco smiled at him.
"Ah, Kaleb," Adrian said. "Meet Soco. He's going to be living with us and taking care of the housework."
Kaleb continued to stare before he finally said, "Yo," and disappeared into his bedroom.
Adrian looked perplex by the boy's behavior. "Huh. It's not like him to be so shy."
Soco said nothing, staring at Kaleb's closed door.
"Well, this will be your room," Adrian said, opening a door close to the bathroom. There was a single window and a wardrobe against the far wall, a twin bed to the left, and a desk and chair to the right. The floor was covered in a plush navy blue carpet and the walls were a simple cream color.
"Like I said, you can do whatever you want to in here," Adrian said. "If you've posters or pictures you want to hang on the wall, go ahead. Everything in here is yours for as long as you live here."
"Thank you very much," Soco said, stepping into the room and turning around to get a good look at it. "This is really quite nice."
Adrian smiled. "Glad you like it. Want to head over and get your things now?"
"If it's not too much trouble," the teen said almost shyly.
"Of course it's too much trouble," Adrian replied, "that's why I asked." He grinned so that Soco would know he was only kidding.
He was rewarded with a soft giggle. "Okay."
~*~
They made the journey to GD's mansion and back, and got Soco's bags of belongings moved upstairs and into his new room. Adrian had left him alone to unpack and to go start on dinner.
Thankful for the peace, Soco breathed deeply as he went about putting his clothes in the wardrobe. Other than clothes, makeup, and hygiene products, he didn't own a lot.
Finally, he pulled a pen and a book from the last of his bags and settled on his bed. The book was meant to be a journal, but he'd never had the chance to write in it. He'd had a tough time deciding which journal to buy for himself, so he chose one with a cover that was black with a simple silver border. The pages inside were grey, with the border from the cover watermarked on each page.
He opened the book, and began putting pen to paper.Quote: Where to start, where to start.
Today, I moved in with the Karlet family. I'm to be their maid and take care of the mansion they live in. Mr. Karlet seems charming, and is really quite handsome. Apparently he knows GD's nephew and adopted one of the other boys from the mansion. I have yet to be introduced to this boy or the rest of the family, but that will be taken care of during dinner, I'm sure.
This mansion is more normal than Master GD's. It actually resembles a house. I think I may miss the Thirteen. They were my teachers and inspiration, after all. I spent most of my life in that mansion. I had a caretaker for a time, but it's a time not worth remembering. I've become quite independent without having or needing a caretaker's guidance. At the mansion, you learn to take care of yourself.
I've cared for myself all my life, and now I have a job of taking care of something else. I've held a few other small jobs, but I hope to stay here for a while. The pay is going to be good, and I can come and go as I please. Some of those other jobs had strict restrictions against what I could and couldn't do, not to mention that my bosses were rather... grabby. I'd play it up and wear provocative outfits just to tempt them, and of course they couldn't resist. I just didn't appreciate when they went too far, no matter how much extra they paid me for it.
I'm not sure if Mr. Karlet will be the same way. Nor am I sure whether or not I'll mind.
Did I mention he's damn fine? Mmm...

Quote: I think I've settled in quite nicely here. While the kids are all away at schooling and such, I can get a lot of work done, and then I have a lot of freetime afterward. I've been spending some time in the library they have here in the mansion, but I've also started making trips to the public library in town. I really do enjoy reading. It's a nice quiet activity that some of the older kids here don't take part in. They can keep to their dojo; just leave the library and the nice window seats to me.
Malachite, the other boy from GD's mansion, is a cutie. He was really shy around me at first, but Mr. Karlet says he's like that with everyone.
And Mr. Karlet's taken to calling me Mr. Soco whenever I forget to drop his title. It's amusing.
The whole family and I eat dinner together, if we can't meet for the other meals. I've done some cooking, but Hana seems to... enjoy doing that. No one wants to be in the kitchen when she's weilding sharp knives, trust me. That girl has a firey temper, and I don't know why.
In anycase, I still take charge of keeping the grocery list up to date, and Mr. Karlet or Kaleb will give me rides to the store when needed. I need to see about getting a license, I guess. I could never afford a car and never had the need for one. I never thought to ask GD if he had a car, and my other bosses never needed me to run errands. Now, having a license would mean a sort of independence -- I wouldn't have to keep asking for rides.
I suppose I also need to see about some sort of schooling for myself. Mr. Karlet would probably be willing to help me find something to do, seeing as how he's a high school principal. I keep seeing ads on TV for correspondance courses, too. We'll see. I don't want to take away from my job. And hell, I'm already making money, so why should I worry about an education? It's just one of those things you're supposed to do when you're a young person, I guess.
I'm going to stop here for now. Tonight I'm going to check out the clubs and nightlife in the area, just to see what's around. I need to get out more.

April 23, 2006 I don't think I was supposed to see that. I was up late doing this and that, and just happened to pass through the front hall.
Kaleb told me of the rumors going around about Mr. Karlet doing untoward things to Malachite when he was younger. Now, I'm wondering if they were true, afterall -- not that it's any of my business.
Maybe I'm just a little disappointed. I know Karlet has at least one lover, maybe more, and now Malachite.
Oh, well. It was a nice fantasy thought.
I don't think either of them know that I saw them. I have to say, I can understand why anyone would want either one of them; they're both goregous when they're...
Ahem.
If they ask, I'll tell them the truth. I wouldn't get anything out of telling anyone about the two of them, and it would just cause them more distress. Apparently, Malachite's already been in a few fights because of the rumors, so I don't want to aggravate an already volatile situation. I like and respect them both.
In other news, I've found a couple good hangouts nearby, for afterhours entertainment. I need to get back into practice with my routines before I go for a job. I probably won't tell Karlet about it, if I get it. What I do outside of the house is my own business, afterall. I don't mind picking up some extra money doing something I really enjoy. Cleaning houses only provides so much pleasure. Besides, maybe this way I'll be able to connect with a few of the locals and get to know people outside the mansions.

May 12, 2006 Things at the house have quieted down for the time being, but Adrian said to me today that we may be getting a long-term house guest. He wants to keep it a secret, for now. No one noticed me cleaning out one of the spare rooms, so that shouldn't be a problem.
In fact, most of the Karlets don't pay a whole lot of attention to me. Some of them are shy or antisocial. That's fine; I haven't exactly made the effort to introduce myself and get to know them. And no matter how much I keep saying I'm going to go out to the clubs, I haven't, yet. It's just not as much fun going alone. I've also been really tired at night after taking care of the house. Whatever free time I get is usually spent in the library with a book, or on the Internet looking up information that I may or may not ever use.
I really need to go shopping, soon. I've saved up enough money for things other than the necessities. Well, I suppose a new outfit counts as a necessity. I've had this one for a long while and, thanks to a growth spurt, I'm starting to outgrow it. I'm thinking about getting something a little more frilly, but still practical. I need a new hat, too. The nurses hat was just something I added to the outfit on a whim, and people still ask me if I'm a nurse or a maid. I could be both. I've had a little bit of First Aid training, but not much. I suppose that's another avenue I could look into. (( Up next, hopefully, is Soco's trip to the mall, with one of the Karlet crew. ))

Soco had taken a short break from his duties to have a snack and start working his way through yet another book he'd found in the mansion's library. He sat in the kitchen on one of the bar stools, munching away on carrot and celery sticks. He looked up as he heard footsteps decending the stairs, and saw Kaleb poke his head into the kitchen.
"Ah, hi," Kaleb said from the doorway.
"Hi." Soco blinked at him.
"Are you done cleaning for a while, or are you still busy?"
"I've still a few things to do, but they can be done later," Soco replied. "Why do you ask?"
"I'm heading to the mall for a little while," Kaleb said with a shrug. "I was wondering if you wanted to come with and hang out for a bit."
Soco smiled. "That'd be nice, thank you. Let me change into some other clothes, and I'll be all set."
Kaleb glanced down at the maid's frilly outfit. "Yeeeah, that might be a good idea."
"I thought you'd approve."
Kaleb drove them to the mall in Adrian's car, and they went in through the food court entrance. Soco's street clothes weren't any more flamboyant than Kaleb's, for which the teen was greatful. The boy-maid had changed into a pair of jeans and a tight-fitting T-shirt, but he kept the chunky black heels and his rabbit ears.
"So, whaddya think?" Kaleb asked.
"About what?"
"About where to go first."
"Oh," Soco replied. He stood at the directory, looking through the list of stores. "I haven't gone shopping in forever. Pick a place to start, and we'll work our way around."
"Sounds good," Kaleb agreed.
He led the way to the nearest music store, and they pawed their way through racks of CDs and DVDs. They didn't buy anything, choosing to save their money for just in case.
"So, how's it going?" Kaleb asked as they made their way out of the store. "You like living in our little insane asylum?"
"Oh, yeah, it's nice," Soco replied with a smile. "It's not as insane as you might think. This mansion is a lot more laid back than the one I came from."
"Yeah, I've never been there," Kaleb said, "but if it's anything like what Karlet and Mal say it is, I guess you're right about ours being saner."
Soco chuckled, not bothering to correct the boy's grammar, and they continued window shopping, tossing idle chitchat back and forth until they'd completed the loop back to the food court.
"Well, this was crap," Kaleb said, leaning against a large planter. "I'm not much of a mall person, but I figured you might at least have a good time shopping or whatever."
Soco blinked at him in surprise. "I had a good time getting to know you," he said defensively. "I'm not really a mall person, either, but I wasn't about to turn down your offer to get out of the house."
Kaleb snorted. "You're an odd one," he said. "I like you."
"What?"
"Well, I don't completely mean in that way," Kaleb continued babbling. "You're odd, and that's cool, and I like that. But I'm taken, and you're interested in someone, so it doesn't really matter."
Soco still looked startled. "What?"
"You've got your eyes on Karlet, don't you?" Kaleb said, giving the other teen a speculative look.
"Err..."
"You don't have to deny it. For one, it's obvious. For two, I really don't care."
Soco looked away sheepishly. "It's obvious?"
"At times, yeah. And don't tell me that you weren't trying to be obvious about it."
"Well..." Soco poked his two index fingers together, "I wasn't sure how people would react to it. So I only tried to be that way when no one else was around but him."
"Like I said, I don't care," Kaleb said with a shrug. "And I doubt anyone other than Hana and I have really noticed. And she doesn't care. So, you're all set."
"What about Malachite?" Soco murmured, not soon forgetting the younger boy's adoration for his guardian.
Kaleb looked thoughtful. "Dunno. He might get upset, but it's hard to tell with him, especially now."
Soco nodded. "That's what I'm afraid of."
Since it was still early, the two boys decided not to eat at the mall's food court. They hopped back in the car and drove around for the sake of driving.
"Do you want my advice?" Kaleb asked. "Not that I have any experience with giving advice or anything. Just thought I'd ask."
"Sure." Soco smiled again.
"Go for it."
Soco paused until he was sure Kaleb wasn't going to elaborate further. "That's your advice?"
"Yup."
They rode in silence for another moment. "You know I could take that any number of ways, right?" Soco said.
"Yup."
Another pause. "So, could you at least give me an idea of what you think I should go for?"
"I suppose I could," Kaleb said, pulling into a parking lot and bringing the car to a complete stop. "I think you should go ahead and try to win Karlet over, and don't worry about upsetting Mal. Or, if you're into threesomes--"
"Oh, Jeeze," Soco muttered, turning red.
Kaleb grinned. "What's that reaction for? The threesome comment, or the fact that we're parked outside of a sex shop?"
"Both?"
"Good enough. Wanna get out?"
"Might as well. Do you have a fake ID?"
"Yup. Do you?"
"Of course."
No one immediately stopped them as the two boys sauntered into the store, but they kept their little plastic ID cards close at hand, just in case. Soco had a much easier time of being mature as they perused the shelves, while Kaleb tried not to crack up at some of the merchandise. The store had just about every item relating to sex that money could buy, and a few items that just weren't worth the money.
It wasn't until they reached the wide variety of butt plugs that Kaleb's giggles died in his throat. "Why the hell..." he squeaked quietly. "How the hell..."
"Lots of lube and lots of practice?" Soco suggested, eyeing a couple of plugs that were a lot less wide at their base. "Also, you start with these smaller ones here, and work your way--"
Kaleb sputtered at him. "Shut up! Just... shut up!"
It was Soco's turn to laugh.
"Hey, look, there's something up your alley," Kaleb said, trying to draw attention away from the disturbing display. He was pointing to the racks of packaged outfits hanging along the wall, and the one that faced them was, coincidentally, a maid bunny dress with accessories.
Soco "ooed" at that and went to get a closer look. The dress was black satin with pink lace and thin shoulder straps. It was quite short, judging by the picture. Along with the dress, there was a headband with black bunny ears, with little pink bows at the base of each ear. It also came with lacy wristbands and its own garter belt and garters.
"This is cool," Soco said as Kaleb peered over his shoulder. "Think this would get Karlet's attention?"
"Trust me, you get his attention with any of the other outfits you wear," Kaleb said. "He just does his best to hide it in case he causes another uproar."
Soco smirked softly and started heading for the dressing rooms. "How about I try it on and see what you think?"
"Ah, Jeeze." Kaleb rolled his eyes and sighed, "Sure, go ahead."
It only took a few minutes for Soco to change into the new outfit, and he didn't quite dare step out into the store. Instead, he waved Kaleb towards the room, a mischevous smile in place.
"Well?" Soco asked, posing.
Kaleb stared. "That dress is really short."
"Yes."
"And you aren't wearing underwear."
"It didn't look good with it," Soco said. "I need to buy a better pair."
"Pair of what?"
Soco glanced at Kaleb and gave him a shove out of the doorway. "Seriously, what do you think?"
"It's..." Kaleb glanced over the ensemble once more. "You're going to wear it while you're working?"
"Why not?"
Kaleb just shook his head. "Well, I guess everyone's grown up enough..."
"I'll be careful not to harm anyone's virigin eyes, I promise."
And so, Soco left the store with a new outfit (complete with black and pink frilly underwear and bright pink fishnet stockings), and Kaleb left with the pressing need for a shower.

Things had been fairly quiet in the Karlet household -- save for opening of the in-mansion pool and the teenagers teaching their juniors to swim. Many of the kids went to bed exhausted and slept soundly until morning. The only people who didn't swim were Adrian and Soco. Adrian, despite his former occupation as a fisherman, had a slight phobia for deep bodies of water. Soco had no interest in swimming, choosing to sit beside the pool and read, while keeping an eye out just in case a little one went under.
Consequently, they were the only two awake in the whole mansion on this particular evening.
The guardian had holed himself up in the library, trying to do work and failing.
Work. He hated work. He hated that he could only find jobs that required him to actually work in order to earn money. And he was tempted to sell some of the brattier kids off to perform slave labor. Maybe a summer of raking blueberries...
But no, that just wouldn't do. The blueberries weren't ready, yet.
He tried once again to focus on his work, when something derailed his train of thought all together.
In sauntered Soco, wearing the brand new, less-than-innocent outfit he'd bought on his outting with Kaleb. He didn't meet Adrian's gaze as he went about rearranging and putting away the books that were just lying around the room.
Adrian's reaction went from shock to amusement as he sat and watched the maid work. Or, rather, he intently studied the outfit and its relation to Soco's movements.
After a few minutes, he finally broke the silence. "You're working late."
"As are you," Soco quipped, not pausing in his work.
"True, but my work can't be put off until morning."
"I thought perhaps you could use some company," Soco replied, casting Adrian a glance over his shoulder.
Adrian smiled. "That was awful nice of you to think of me," he said, "but you didn't have to get dressed up just to keep me company."
Soco turned away from the bookcase. "Don't you like it?" he asked.
"Oh, I do, no question," Adrian replied quickly. "It's just making it very difficult to..." He paused, trying to put what he was thinking into words and failing -- partly because Soco dropped a book at that exact moment and bent over to get it. "Y-you remember that whole thing with me having sex with someone underage? I'm trying to put that behind me and not come off as a pervert. And you're underaged, and I'm thinking pervertedly."
Soco smirked softly as he stood and replaced the book on its shelf. He then turned and took slow, deliberate steps toward Adrian. "You say all that like it's a bad thing."
"It is bad!" Adrian insisted. "I could lose my jobs, and my kids!"
"That's only if you get caught," Soco reasoned, picking up the papers Adrian had been trying to work on and setting them aside. "And that's a very big if."
"Soco, don't--"
The teenager straddled the man's lap and got a fistful of Adrian's shirt before pulling him into a kiss.
Oh, ********> was Adrian first thought. His hands twitched against the arm rests of the chair as he tried to decide what to do. Finally, he raised his hands and pushed Soco away from him. "Stop."
The maid boy pouted at him, eyes half-lidded. "Why?"
"I don't... want to take another chance," Adrian said, avoiding his gaze. "I ******** up the last time. I don't want to ruin--"
Soco silenced him again, and then pulled away. "This is different," he hissed in Adrian's ear. "I'm older than he was, I'm almost 18, you're not drunk, and I want you."
Adrian shivered as the boy licked at the shell of his ear. He pushed him away again. "That... brings up another problem."
"What now?"
"Malachite. He still likes me, and if I get involved with you, he'll be hurt, and then there'll be an even bigger mess."
Soco paused. "There's an easy solution to that."
"And that is?"
"Threesome."
Adrian sputtered, mind suddenly bringing up several interesting images. "No."
"And why not?"
"You don't even know how he'd feel about it!"
"So, we'll ask him."
The guardian sputtered some more, and then gave up, slumping in the chair. Soco leaned down and started nibbling at Adrian's neck, causing the man to twitch. "You're making this hard..."
"Making what hard?"
Adrian shook his head, managing an amused smirk. "You're still underaged. And he's still underaged. So, even if he's okay with it, we still have to wait."
"You mean, you'll have to wait," Soco pointed out. "I'll have him all to myself for a little while. I wonder if exhibitionism and voyuerism would be illegal in this case...?"
A sound from the library doorway caused the two to look up. Standing there was the teenager in question, dressed only in a pair of PJ bottoms and with his hair in disarray.
"Sorry to interrupt," Malachite said, "but my ears are burning."
"How long have you been standing there?" Adrian asked, his voice strained.
"Since just before the part about the threesome."
"s**t."
Soco looked amused, sitting so that he was still straddling Adrian's lap. He crooked a finger at the boy. "Come on in, then."
Malachite padded into the library and sat on the armrest of Adrian's chair. "So... what's this about you wanting my 'Drian?" he asked Soco.
Soco shrugged and shifted to make room for Mal. "I've just always wanted him from the moment I met him. But because he loves you and doesn't want to hurt you, he won't have me."
Malachite slid into the space Soco made for him, placing himself in Adrian's lap and between the two. "That's what I thought I heard," he said. "So, I'd either have to give him up altogether, or share?"
"That was the reasoning behind the threesome, yes."
Malachite looked thoughtful, glancing between the two of them. Adrian stared up at the ceiling, trying to cope with the fact that he had two gorgeous young men in his lap and he couldn't touch them. Soco contented himself with watching Adrian and Malachite.
"I think," Malachite began, "that I'd have to get to know you better before we had sex."
Adrian turned red and sputtered once more.
"That's perfectly fine with me," Soco said. "No rush; take all the time you need."
"Let's have a date then," Mal suggested, "just the two of us."
"Ever been clubbing?"
"Boys," Adrian finally whined, "could you work out the details somewhere that isn't in my lap?"
"But it's just so comfortable!" Malachite whined back, wiggling. "Except for the... uhm..."
"No, that's not a flashlight in my pocket."
"He's just happy to see you," Soco finished.

After a couple weeks of mansion madness -- kids learning to swim, visitors, preparations for another new resident, and another unexpected bout of depression on Adrian's account -- the "date" was finally put into motion.
By that point, the objective of the date had changed, mostly due to Malachite's change of heart. Soco hadn't minded; he still wanted a chance to get to know the boy a little better. He still felt like a sort of outsider when it came to the Karlet family. Sure, they were friendly enough, but he didn't know them.
Soco told Malachite and Adrian that they were going to a particular club that offered special "teenagers-only" nights, with no alcohol served. That made the guardian very happy, since he'd heard too many stories of teenagers going out and getting drunk and not getting home. Then he went back to being inexplicably depressed.
And so it was that Soco was the first to be all dressed and ready to go. As much as he wanted to wear one of his more suggestive outfits, he decided on one that he was sure would shock the family without being lewd.
He knocked on Malachite's door. "Mal, are you ready, yet?" he called.
"I don't have anything to wear~" came the whine from inside.
The maid shook his head. "I highly doubt that. Want some help?"
"It's open."
Soco opened the door and stepped inside, shutting it behind him. Malachite was busy rummaging through drawers and his wardrobe when he caught a glimpse of Soco's reflection in a nearby mirror. The boy whirled around to get a better look, a hand going to his nose and mouth. "Oh my God," he said, eyes wide.
"You like it?" Soco smiled and turned around. Oh-so-shiny black vinyl pants clung to his hips and thighs like they were painted on, and the legs flared out at the ankles. Fishnet wove its way up his arms, disappearing under a sleeve-less white shirt. He'd put on a loose black tie and donned a black beret with slits for his rabbit ears to poke through. Since there was just simply too much black and white to the outfit, Soco had found a hot pink colored belt. At least something went with his ever-so-pink hair.
"It's different," Mal breathed. "And hot. But where's your tail?"
"Oh, it's back there," Soco said with a wink. "Wanna check, just to be sure?"
Malachite turned bright red. "No, that's okay," he squeaked. He turned back to his wardrobe and whined again. "I don't think I can top that, though."
"That's okay, I'd prefer being on top, anyway."
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!"
Soco hid his chuckles behind his hand. "Sorry, sorry," he said. "Really, anything you have is fine." He peered over Mal's shoulder as the teen flipped through the clothes in his wardrobe for the tenth time. "Go with what you usually wear," he suggested, pointing to the corset.
Malachite set the corset aside, then went back to rummaging. "Yeah, but I don't just want to wear jeans."
"Why not? How about those?" Soco pointed to the first pair he saw.
"They're a little too small."
"Even better."
Mal's face, which had barely regained its usual color, flushed red, again. "If you insist," he muttered, setting that aside.
"I don't insist," Soco said. "I'm simply making suggestions. In fact, you could just go with those two things, and you'd be good."
"That's not very flashy." Mal made a face.
"I'll be plenty flashy for the both of us," he joked. "If you keep it simple, it'll balance us out. And you'll still look plenty hot."
Malachite just stared at Soco for a moment, and then nodded. "Okay." He went about pulling out jewelry and other stuff to add to the outfit, and then realized Soco was still standing there. "Uhm... could you step outside?" he asked. "I mean..."
"Ah, of course," Soco said, looking momentarily embarassed. "My bad." He quickly made his exit, leaving Mal to change in peace. He checked to be sure he had his keys and wallet before making his way down the stairs. No one was in the front room or kitchen, so he peeked into the dining room. Adrian was sitting in there, still looking despondent.
That is, until Soco walked up to him.
Adrian noticed movement out of the corner of his eye, and his eyes focused on it -- then on the entire picture. He had the same wide-eyed reaction as Malachite. "Wow," he said, giving the teen a long once-over. "That looks really good on you."
"Thank you," Soco said cheerily, settling into the chair beside his boss. "I thought you might approve."
"How come you don't wear pants and shirts like other teenagers, Soco?" Adrian asked. "Or even skirts, in Mal's case."
The teen shrugged. "I liked the whole 'maid' style outfits, and decided to wear them more often than not."
"Yeah, but that's because of your job, right?" Adrian tapped his fingers against the table. "Sure, you enjoy it, but... have you had a chance to dress like a kid? To be a kid?"
Soco blinked and rested his chin in his hand as he considered. "I don't know," he admitted. "I've been doing this for a long time. It was all part of the job.. I don't remember anything before I started working."
"That's too bad," Adrian said quietly. "You're running out of time for being a kid, don't ya know? And then what've you got ahead of you? Work, work, and more work, until..." He trailed off, face turning a pale green.
"Adrian?" Soco looked startled.
The man waved him off, shaking his head. "It's nothing, nevermind," he muttered. He reached for his glass of water and sipped it quietly while Soco watched him.
After a moment, the teen spoke up, again. "Sir, whatever it is that's bothering you, it's making you sick."
"Yes," Adrian said, "I know. There isn't anything anyone can do about it. But listen to me." He set the glass down and looked Soco in the eye, expression serious. "You boys be careful, tonight. I don't want anything to happen to either of you, understood?"
"Of course," Soco said, still startled. "I'll do my best to take care of Mal."
"Take care of yourself, too," Adrian insisted, resting a hand on Soco's shoulder. "Please, call me if you need anything at all, no matter what time it is."
"I will. I promise."
They stared eye-to-eye like that for several moments. Finally, the guardian sighed and let his hand fall away. "Good... good." He sat back in his chair, and let his eyes close.
Soco sat and observed how absolutely exhausted the man was. He'd been this way for several days, now, and it showed no signs of improvement. "Adrian?" he said.
"Mm?"
The teen hesitated. "Maybe you should... I don't know, take the weekend off? Go somewhere?"
"That sounds like an idea," Adrian said softly, eyes opening to stare at the ceiling. "I don't know, though... could you guys handle being here by yourselves?"
"Of course we could."
"What if something happened...?"
Soco shook his head. "Life is full of happenings. Unless you let the happenings happen, you'll never know if they're going to be negative or positive. You've got four able-bodied, respectable teenagers in the house. We're not going to throw a party or let the house fall down around us or the others here. If you don't get out and take a vacation, you're not going to be able to help or protect us, anyway."
Adrian paused, thinking that over. "I suppose you're right," he said. "I'll... figure out something."
"Good," Soco smiled.

(( Me? Finish one RP at a time? Nevah~!
I was going to do the whole colors thing -- to separate who wrote what -- but that was just blinding. I think you can figure it out. ))
And so it was, on yet another beautiful day in Gaia, that two members of the Karlet household were off to do a little shopping on the town. Alas, it was not the kind of shopping Malachite had in mind. No, Soco insisted, they had to buy groceries, today. Since the one vehicle that belonged to the family was already in use, the two boys were forced to walk home, carrying heavy plastic bags that dangled from their arms. The strain caused Malachite to whine as Soco ignored him in favor of looking over the shopping list once more.
(( They're actually returning from shopping, you see. I just failed to mention that properly. >.>; ))
As it so happened, someone else, a possibly familiar someone, was heading up the road, coming their way, obviously on the way toward the same direction the two had just come from. The blonde trudged along, perhaps a bit impeded by the clothing he wore, since it was always hot. Though he never complained, others always asked him why he had to wear pants in the middle of summer. He didn't mind so much, and marched on, reviewing his own list, not quite noticing the other travellers yet.
"Soco~" Malachite whined for the millionth time (or so it seemed), "why couldn't we have waited to do this later? Like, when it wasn't so hot and when Kaleb came back with the car?"
"'Cause," was Soco's only response. He frowned as he mentally checked off the items on the list. They'd missed a couple. Drat.
Since Soco's attention was down and not forward, and Malachite was busy shifting the bags around on his arms, neither of them noticed Archard until Soco stumbled into him. "Ack!"
Archard yelped, nearly tumbling backwards, but caught his balance at the last moment, doing his best to steady the boy he'd bumped into. "Aah!! I'm terriby sorry, I really should pay more attention!" he said, quite flustered, hoping neither of the boys would be cross with him. But, suddenly, he smiled a bit as he observed the green-haired one for a moment. "Hey...haven't we met? Mal, isn't it?" he smiled lightly. Surely they'd be understanding over his clutziness.
"No, no, it's my fault, really!" Soco managed to stay on his feet -- at least he wasn't wearing anything with heels, today -- despite the weight of the groceries on his arms. Once he recovered, he looked up at the young man he'd walked into, and nearly froze with a mixture of embarassment and thoughts of "Holy Hell, he's hot!"
Malachite had glanced up at the last moment, too late to say anything. He watched with a bemused smirk as the two righted themselves. He looked closely at the blonde, thinking that he did seem a little familiar. "Ah, yeah, I'm Mal, Malachite, Mal-adjusted," the teen replied with a grin. "Sorry, I don't seem to remember your name."
Archard was a little bashful, since it had been a very long time. How could he forget someone with green hair, though? "Sorry. " he said, backing up a bit. "My name is Archard." he said with a respectful nod of his head, trying to make up for the bumping with a polite-as-possible greeting. "Who might your friend be?" he asked in a friendly tone, looking over to Soco. It had been such a long time since he'd last met any of the boys who had come from the mansion...and sadly enough, Aiden had moved to another home, and wasn't yet aware of exactly how to get in touch with him again. At least Malachite seemed to be alright. He'd never seen Soco before, and he smiled, waiting for his introduction.
"Ah, that's right," Malachite said, "Archard! Nice to see you, again. This is Soco. He lives and works at my dad's mansion."
Soco bowed his head quickly. "Nice to meet you," he said, raising his head again. "I'd shake your hand, but..." He held up an arm, showing Archard the bags. He still seemed quite embarrassed, and gave a quick glance at Mal.
Malachite caught it. He asked, "So, what are you up to, Archard?"
Archard smiled, charmed over Soco and now even more bashful that he'd bumped right into him. "Yes, I see. They look heavy, do you guys need a hand?" he asked, eager to lend a helping hand to friends. "I was only on my way to get a couple of things. No big trip...and it can always wait." he said cheerfully. It was really on a trip of his own terms, since all he wanted were some snacks.
"Weeelll," Malachite drawled, giving Soco a look. "What do you think?"
"We forgot a few things," Soco said quietly. "We could go back and pick them up, I suppose." He didn't remember the last time he'd had such a strong shyness attack, but it didn't keep him from wanting to have a few more minutes in Archard's presence.
"Yeah, it would give him some company, and us a break from all these bags." Malachite held a couple out to Archard. "Take two from me, and two from him, and we'll call it even?"
"Sounds good to me." Archard smiled, and took the bags easily, seeming not to have as much trouble with them. He reched down to take a couple from Soco. He was surprised he himself didn't feel too shy. It was a good day, he supposed, and these two were no friends. So, no need to be shy or cautious! "Yeah...I haven't had company in a while." Archard said with a chuckle. "I'm rather glad to see friends." he smiled. Kami always encouraged him to go back and visit at the mansion, but the thought just made him nervous. Too many strangers, that's what it was. He could deal with things like Kami's beasts and animals, but people were a different story.
Soco handed over a couple of the bags and then turned to lead the way back up the street.
Malachite followed after him, smiling. "Well, this is good, then," he said, "both that you have company and that you consider us friends. I guess this wasn't such a bad trip, after all."
Soco chuckled quietly. "That's not what you were saying a few moments ago," he pointed out.
"Yeah, well, you feel better about it, now, too. Don't try and deny it! Your face is still red!"
The maidboi sputtered, but said nothing. So this is what it's like to have a younger sibling...
Archard laughed at that, and walked at Malachite's side, following Soco. He wondered how long they had known eachother, for during the time he had enjoyed visiting the mansion, he'd never seen the maid with Mal, or at all. "So how long have you two been with Adrian?" he asked, blushing a little. "I mean, I only ask cause I never saw you, Soco at the mansion with Mal. I used to go there quite a bit, but not much, anymore." he said, trying to make it sound like friendly conversation and not something nosey.
(>.< he meant DT's mansion)
"I've been with Adrian fooorr... I dunno, a long time, now," Malachite answered, a little proud now that he thought of it. "Soco?"
The pink-haired one glanced back at them, then moved so that he was walking at Archard's otherside. "I haven't been with them for very long," he said. "Adrian hired me from GD's mansion to take care of the house. I hadn't met him or Mal before then, and pretty much kept to myself."
"You probably mistook him for one of The Thirteen," Mal said, jokingly. "He dresses like they do, from time to time."
Soco gave Malachite a strong glance, and the other boy just grinned at him.
"I remember when we were little and talked that one time." Archard smirked a bit. He was very glad that Mal hadn't had to change homes at all. He couldn't imagine what that would be like...but he pushed the thought from his mind to listen to Soco. "I see." Archard chuckled at mal's statement. "That's interesting. I always did like the maid's uniforms."
Malachite leaned back and spoke to Soco around Archard. "Ah, see? You're in luck!"
"Would you--" Soco sputtered some more, lifting a bag as if threatening to toss it at him.
Malachite just snickered. "So, anyway. Are we there yet?"
Archard chuckled, and ganced ahead, wondering if he could answer mal's question. He'd never been to their house, but he'd heard about it before. "Seems I may know of another who lives in your household." he mused, smiling a bit. "Doesn't a little cat boy named Rayen live with you two?"
"Yeah, Rayen lives with us," Malachite replied. He shifted the bags on his arms. "How do you know about him?"
Soco kept silent, glancing around as they walked. There didn't seem to be many people around, today, which was good... seeing as they were walking in a line and taking up the entire sidewalk.
"I thought he did. He's quite close with Benjamin. He's a cat boy, too." he said with a chuckle. He'd seen them about, cuddling, and playing. It was rather cute, and he was fairly sure that Ben had been over to Rayen's home once or twice. Archard was rather glad also, favoring a peaceful day rather than a noisy, bustling one.
"Ohh, so you know Benjamin?" Soco spoke up. He'd listened to Rayen's babblings about another cat boy for as long as they'd known each other.
"Or Benenenen, as Rayen calls him," Malachite added. "They're cute. Kinda kooky, but cute."
"Yes, he lives at Kami's place. They are quite cute together." Archard said, amused over Rayen's nickname for his orange-furred 'sibling'. They seemed to play together every chance they got. "Ben complains sometimes when he can't see him. Rayen's just about his only friend, apparently." Archard mused once more, looking thoughtful.
Soco smiled. "Rayen's the same way. He's usually pretty shy and keeps to himself. Then again, he doesn't get very many opportunities to go out and meet others."
"Kind of like someone else we know, hmm?" Malachite suggested, giving Soco a look.
Soco simply rolled his eyes and ignored him.
"Hah, same here. I...really should get out more." he said, smiling lightly to Soco knowingly, amused over Soco and Mal's interaction. It made him remember the days Mekt used to live at his home, and he gave a soft, slightly wistful sigh.~*~ A. V. Karlet ((Temporary Hiatus Notice:

(( Flash back to the Mal/Soco RP, yay. ))
Once the two were finally covered in glowy bling, Soco took Malachite by the hand and led him to the dance floor. The green haired-one's hand was still shaking with minor tremors, but Soco hoped they would stop as soon as they got moving.
The floor wasn't too crowded, and there were a few ravers here and there, but Soco and Mal found a nice realitively empty spot where they had enough room to move. The music wasn't too bad -- but it wasn't too good, either. But that was no excuse for not dancing.
And so they danced. Soco had thought he was a fairly good dancer, but next to Malachite, his skills paled in comparison. "Who taught you?" he asked, raising his voice to be heard over the music.
"I took some lessons when I was a kid," Mal replied.
"That explains it." Soco grinned.
"How about you?"
"No one taught me; I practiced in front of the mirror until it looked good."
Malachite laughed, but it was good-natured. Soco believed he was genuinely amused and not trying to make fun of him.
But he wasn't convinced that everything about the boy was genuine. He was sure that Malachite wore a mask to hide his true feelings, to hide the boy inside that had found a need for making himself up at a young age.
As the floor began to fill with more and more people, the two teenagers moved closer together. Slowly, an unannounced contest began between the two of who could get the other more turned on while dancing. Each of them used every trick he knew in an attempt to get the other so horny he couldn't stand. They gathered a few spectators -- including a small flock of boys-love fangirls and fanboys -- and when the boys finally noticed, Mal and Soco burst out laughing, both from embarassment and from amusement.
They made their way off the floor and stopped at the bar for another drink to regain what they'd burned off. Instead of staying at the bar, they headed for another little table and sat down, Malachite still giggling and Soco hiding a grin.
A few of the other teens that had been watching followed them over. "Are you both really guys?" one girl had the audacity to ask.
"Last we checked, yeah," Malachite giggled some more.
A few of the girls squealed and began gushing over how girly Malachite was. The boy just glanced at Soco and shook his head.
"Are you... together?" another asked.
"Not really," Mal replied, giving Soco a look, "we're just... friends."
Soco returned the look and smiled. It was true that they were just friends, and that was all he'd ever really had in mind from the start. He just hoped Malachite felt the same way.
"You weren't dancing like you were just friends," someone added.
"Oh?" Malachite said, looking innocent. "How were we dancing, then?"
"Like you wanted to do him."
The two teens shared another look, and then Soco spotted something out of the corner of his eye -- a phone in one girl's hand, and an actual camera in the hands of another. "You're just trying to get us to kiss, aren't you?" he accused.
"YES!" squealed a few of the girls.
"If we get put up on the Internet, you'd better give me the links," Malachite informed them, taking another sip of his water. He then pushed the glass away, grabbed Soco by the tie and pulled him into a kiss.
Soco, although surprised, didn't object.
And their audience continued squealing and began taking as many pictures as possible.
Once they pulled away, they received a few hugs from the girls, and the flock finally wandered off to find other boy-boy couples to bother.
"Jeeze," Mal said after they left.
"I know, aren't they a pain?" Soco said, sipping his drink.
"No, I didn't know you were such a good kisser."
Soco sprayed his drink in the direction of the floor.
Malachite giggled.
"Excuse me, boys," a voice said behind them.
Malachite flinched, looking up at the man warily.
Mr. Ferguson smiled at them. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
"What?" Soco wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before glaring at him. "Why?"
"No arguements, just go." Ferguson watched them get up from their seats and escorted them to the backdoor.
"This is bullshit!" Soco complained, glancing at Malachite.
The other said nothing, looking much more reserved than he had a few moments ago.
Soco pushed the door open to the back alley and held it open. Ferguson placed a hand on Mal's shoulder to stop him. "If you really want to stay," the man said, drawing close, "I'll let you back in if you would do me a big favor."
Soco blinked and nearly missed Malachite's fist connecting with the man's nose.
"I doubt it's that big!" the teenager hissed, wrenching away and grabbing Soco's hand. He took off down the alley at top speed, and then down the street in the direction of home.
They didn't slow down until they were a few blocks away from the club. Malachite stopped to catch his breath and Soco waited, glancing at their surroundings.
"Are you okay?" the maid finally asked.
Malachite shook his head, still panting.
"Want me to call Adrian?"
The teenager looked up, considered it, and then nodded. "Sure... he can give us a ride back."
Soco nodded. "That was my thinking." He pulled out his cellphone and dialed the number to the mansion. When Adrian picked up, Soco didn't bother explaining all the details, but told him where they were and not to worry, just that they needed a ride back.
By the time Soco hung up, Malachite had recovered and was slouched against a nearby wall. "Man," he whined, "I'm sorry we had to cut the night so short."
"Don't worry about it," Soco said, joining him against the wall. "Are you okay?"
Malachite sighed, but then smiled. "Yeah... I think so."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
The teen shrugged. "That was Mr. Ferguson," he said. "He was a teacher of mine, and I had a weird crush on him for a long while. I saw him at the bar, and he was touching me too much, so I freaked out and left."
"Ah, okay," Soco said, lining the pieces up in his mind.
"I've always had an issue with people touching me." Malachite chuckled dryly. "He pushed me too far in too many ways."
Soco nodded. "Are you going to tell Adrian?"
Mal scuffed his shoe against the pavement. "I might. I don't know."
"I think he'd be proud of you."
"Think so?"
"Mmm."
"Maybe I will, then."

August 10, 2006 I've decided that Mr. Karlet is possibly the best boss I've ever had, in a lot of ways, and one of the most imporant ways is that he doesn't really treat me like a boss. In the few months I've been here, it feels like I've become one of the family -- which is an odd concept to me, considering I've never had one, before.
The teenagers in the family (myself included) decided to kick Adrian out of the house for a few days, to try and give him a break from everything here. He finally came home, and even in the midst of everyone else welcoming him back, he noticed that there was "something different" about me.
"New haircut?" he asked.
"Maybe," I said.
He kind of looked at me a moment, and smiled. "You're still gorgeous, in anycase."
It gave me warm and fuzzies in a way I can't really describe. Yes, I have changed a little bit, but that he actually NOTICED made it... made me feel special.
I tried to seduce him again, last night. I had barely just begun when he held a finger to my lips. "You like Archard," he said.
It startled me. I don't know if Malachite told him or maybe it's because he's like a father and somehow already knew.
"Well, yeah," I said to him, not sure where it was going.
"Don't ruin your chances with him by doing anything with me."
That's not exactly what he said, but it's pretty close. We had a discussion about what might happen if we did anything, and he asked how I thought Mal's boyfriend would take it if and when he finds out what happened between Mal and Adrian.
I hadn't really considered Archard a serious possibility, but what Adrian said made sense. I backed off after that, but he said that the one thing we could do and possibly get away with is to hug and such. Anything sexual is right out, but hugging is fine. He's kind of strange like that -- but it makes sense that most of the family is really big on hugging as a way of showing affection.
Malachite and I have formed a sort of friendship, now. I talked to him about what happened last night, and he pretty much agreed with Adrian about everything. He then went on to ask me if I knew about the concept: "Friends who ********." I looked at him funny, and he just grinned.
We're all a little more perverted than we let on in public, it seems.
Which reminds me, Kaleb and I bought and gave Mal a fake ID for his birthday, so we're going to do a little bit of "special" shopping when Kaleb gets back from visiting his boyfriend.
I haven't looked into any other jobs outside of the mansion. Right now, I don't see any reason to. I have everything I need right here, and if I ever need anything else, all I have to do is ask. It's quite the change, but I think I like it.

Quote: Aside from the return of Tristin, things have been quiet around here. I haven't seen or heard from Archard, which is disappointing. I should've taken a more active approach, I guess. I was just waiting, which isn't a good habit to get into.
I've been improving my skills on the piano. I'm still playing by ear, but I'm working on sight reading.
I finally found that series Kilayla mentioned to me. It's rather... interesting, to say the least. And apparently they made a musical out of one of the novels. I found some clips of it on-line. I wasn't too impressed, but it was good.
Speaking of musicals, Malachite got me into his Phantom of the Opera kick, and then we all got into RENT. Adrian blames Misters Mako and Mei, but he's now looking into the whole bohemian subculture. I think I heard him saying something about trying to work it into a story.
Adrian, although he's physically present, hasn't felt there for a while, even before we forced the vacation on him. None of us are sure what's wrong or different, but we all hope that he comes back to us, soon.
In the meantime, I'm keeping myself as busy as ever. I've been doing my best to care for the house and keep an eye on its residents. They're becoming restless, even as the summer is winding down. It's been quiet for a little while, now, which is a nice change -- but it's just not... "normal."

After living with the Karlet family so long, Soco should've been used to small critters and children barrelling up the stairs and down the halls. Nonetheless, Than still managed to startle the maid as he was coming out of his bedroom. "Where's the fire?" Soco asked.
"N-n-n-n--" Than shook his head. "N-n-no fi-fi-fire. Jus-jus-just..." He pointed to the stairs before dashing off to Malachite's room.
Soco blinked at the blond's retreating form. "Uh-huh... I hope he's not having nightmares." He yawned and started down the stairs, curious as to what might've spooked the pre-teen. A quick glance into the living room caused him to stop in his tracks. "Oh... ohhh... now, it makes sense," he said. "So, you're the one that sent Than running for the hills."
"Yeah, I suppose I did," Tristin said, scratching at his head and giving the maid an embarassed smile. "Terribly sorry about that. I hope he's okay."
"I'm sure he'll be fine," Soco said, returning the smile. "How are you? Did you sleep well?"
"Oh, yeah, I'm good." Tristin stretched. "Slept fine until the little'un tried to suffocate me."
Soco blinked. "Suffocate you?"
"Mhmm." Tristin held up the weapon of choice.
"Interesting... He's been watching way too many movies, lately, just between you and I."
"Ah, that'd explain it, then." Tristin got up from the couch and straightened his clothes before approaching Soco and extending a hand. "You're Soco, right? It's been a long time since we last saw each other."
"It was the first and last time, it seems to me," Soco said, taking the offered hand. He wasn't too surprised when the teen pressed his lips to Soco's knuckles. "You're just as charming as ever."
"Why, thank you." Tristin grinned. "You're as attractive as I remember."
"Ah, and yet you almost didn't remember my name."
"Heh," Tristin dropped the act, remembering that he was a somewhat claimed man, and that was one of the biggest reasons for his being there. "You caught me. So, how've things been?"
"Fairly quiet. Someone's been missing you a lot, lately."
"Aww, Soco, I didn't know you felt that way."
Soco rolled his eyes. "I was being serious. You could've called or written or something." Yes, he was sounding more and more like a girl all the time; what of it?
"I know, I know." Tristin shoved his hands into his pockets and didn't look Soco in the eye. "I didn't mean to be a jerk, but... nothing I can do about it, now, except to make up for it."
"Mmm," Soco agreed wordlessly. A sound from the staircase caused him to glance up. "No better time to start than now."

(( Just so it's clear that I've been RPing in March... I just didn't make any journal posts 'cause I didn't have any material to work with. I still don't. XD;; Aaaaaa... ))
~*~Quote: It's not often that I get bored. I entertain myself with housework, reading, playing the piano. Now we're in a house that has little work to do; what work there is is done quickly. We had to cut our library a bit when we left Kanth's mansion and we don't have a piano anymore. Tristin has promised me a good deal on a keyboard sometime in the near future. It won't be quite the same, but it will be nice. The house seems quieter now that there are fewer people living here. I've been tutoring here and there. It helps keep me a little bit busier.
But... there aren't any lessons today, and I'm bored! I am not used to boredom! This is ridiculous!
I actually could go shopping, but everyone in the house has been really busy lately. It's not as much fun going by oneself. I guess I'll have to look outside the house for company.

Quote: I don't usually stay up very late. I work all day and then get to bed at a decent hour. It's a good system, really, even if most people my age don't practice it. The rest of the Karlet family certainly doesn't understand it. The younger ones have a bedtime, at least, and Adrian enforces it when he needs to.
I had stayed up reading a book when I heard the car pull out of the driveway. I got up to check and make sure it was indeed our car. I didn't really think anything of it. Adrian or Malachite will up and go run errands at odd times of the night.
Not long later, I heard the front door shut and peeked out the window again. I saw Tristin walking up the street by himself. That was strange; he rarely goes off on his own or is left behind. He's fun to drag along on errands and such. He makes a good Sherpa, but not a good fashion designer or picker of essential household items.
I went downstairs and took a look around. Everything seemed to be in place until I found a note from Adrian. "Gone to the ER, be back later," it said. I chuckled to myself, but it really wasn't all that funny. He hates when anyone goes off without leaving a proper note, and this certainly wasn't good enough to explain himself.
I went and found Malachite playing video games with Than and Rayen and showed it to him. He shared my alarm and elected to go after Adrian himself. Someone needed to stay behind, so I let him go ahead. Rayen and Than complained loudly that they wanted to go, too, but we told them that hospitals involved a lot of sitting quietly and hours of waiting, and they eventually quieted down.
I told Malachite that Tristin had already left in the direction of the hospital. He pouted a bit, but this new information just sent him off and on his way in an even greater hurry.
We'd known that Adrian was sick. Mal had tried stones and massage, but that didn't help. I'd told Adrian to go see his doctor the first day he was complaining about being sick, but he let it go. I swear, that man cannot take proper care of himself. In the little time that I've known him, I've seen stress eating away at him and now he's paying the price for it. I just hope he's okay.
