Here he was again, at the beach.
The stallion watched the waves roll in and out, washing the beach over and over. He breathed in the ocean breeze and exhaled it with a snort out of his nostrils, eyes distant. Reikon came to the beach often, especially when he was nostalgic. The place not only helped him think; it reminded him of many memories, especially the happy ones. The darker ones were hidden away; there was a pact with himself to not think or not mention them ever. The inquisitive ones he met had asked, but he only gave very vague answers.
He didn't take it too kindly when they had probed, and luckily, they were nice enough to back off when he said there was an "unfortunate accident".
Luckily.

It had been many weeks since Sparkles had last had the opportunity to explore on her own. Often in the company of her new found beau, she had taken to torturing him on a regular basis. They were an odd couple, he was so very serious and she was so light hearted. Thus when the two were together it was as though one were the day and the other was the night. Her forms of torture were often things that he found infuriating - little nuzzles, ticklish nips and constant teasing until he 'smiled'. There was no escaping her eccentric behaviour and he had long ago learnt to adapt but everyone needed their alone time.
Thus, Sparkles had granted her unfortunate beau his space and had taken to exploring the regions of the Kawani again. With the shifting seasons, they had once again transformed into a vision of extreme beauty. All the vibrant shades of red, oranges, browns and golds almost fit in with her pale pink dapples. When the snow came she would fit in perfectly but for the time being, she could savour this exotic beauty. As a nomadic creature she had always seen Autumn from a variety of different locations and everywhere was different.
Alas, having distanced herself from the forests and plains she had finally stumbled upon the coastlines. The oceans remained relatively tame despite the changing seasons and so, she was able to 'paddle' across the shallower waters. Step by step, she marvelled at her own hoof prints and seemed to be content with the simple pleasures in her life. However, just as she was drifting into her own daydreams and musings her pale gaze did catch sight of the blue stallion near by and she arched a brow.
Social encounters already?
Oho, the spirits loved her.
"Pleasant day for an Autumn walk, no?" she called out merrily.

He had ignored the splashes that reached his pricked ears. It was just his luck, of course, that someone had to wander by. The beach was a public place and he had no right to keep others away, but sometimes, he did wish he could have his alone time.
His steel blue gaze was kept straight forward, not bothering to turn around to see who it was until the other spoke.
Darn.
He cast a sideways glance at the owner of the perky voice. It was a unicorn and she sounded happy. Almost too happy. How could one be in such high spirits? "Uhn." He grunted in reply, then looked away, hoping she would not bother him further.

Well that was one way to introduce yourself. A grunt could be taken as a greeting but it was generally considered rude! She couldn't help but giggle at this type of behaviour given how familiar it was to her. He wasn't the only stallion that barely spoke and chose to grunt instead. Attempts to distance himself from this particular Unicorn were going to fail - miserably. She had a mate who was of a similar disposition to him, so a grunt and the aversion of a gaze only amused her further. Really, he was terribly rude in that regard but she was fairly sure he had his reasons (deep down at least).
Thus the mare continued along, closing the gap between herself and the stallion. Her wistful smile remained upon her equine lips and her eyes remained narrowed more through amusement that suspicion. Having reached him though, she ensured he had plenty of personal space and regarded him thoughtfully with her pale pink eyes. Was it customary for all disgruntled men to stare off into space - perhaps hoping that they might see or hear something others couldn't?
Sparkles didn't do that and she always heard voices!
"You're either tired, bored or annoyed," she observed softly, a small chuckle escaping from the depths of her throat. "Perhaps a combination of all three, though it seems unfair to dampen the atmosphere with such dreary behaviour - no?"

The giggle reminded him of another mare and he shifted uncomfortably. His friend was the only one he could tolerate teasing him. He usually ignored everyone else, admittedly.
She had came nearer, and instead of backing away, he held his ground. She wasn't so close yet, there was still a distance between them.
"Well. I was of the impression that it was my problem." If she didn't like it, she could leave him alone. Unfortunately, this didn't seem the case. She was one of those curious ones.

When it came to stallions like him or any creature for that matter, there were ways to deal with them. The best approach was not to pander to their whims, or to attempt to sympathise with them. So he was a catty male, one who didn't like attention yet sought it out indirectly through his behaviour. The manner in which he tore a good atmosphere to shreds was not something she approved of on her morning walks. Granted it wasn't his fault he was depressed but she couldn't let the fish die on his behalf!
Rolling her eyes at his retort she began to move forward again, flicking her lion-like tail against her flank. She made sure to maintain her distance, wading further into the water as she passed him before at last turning to face him again. Pink eyes regarded him for a few moments, perhaps in what could be interpreted as a critical manner and then she chuckled again. A soft lilt that escaped from the deepest regions of her throat. Really she always found depressive creatures to be somewhat amusing...
"You're right, your mood is your own problem," she agreed after a delay. Rolling her shoulders, she coiled her tail around her leg and continued to speak. "However when it begins to kill the fish because you are radiating with such gloom then it becomes a public issue," she pointed out merrily. Having addressed her immediate concerns her expression seemed to brighten considerably. "With this in mind I consider it my duty to save the fish and as such I must find a way to remove the aura of gloom - you know?"

He disliked creatures of her sort.
It wasn't hate, really. It was hard for him to bear a deep grudge against someone unless it was a grievous mistake. And he refused to let anyone get too close to him, for the fear of some sort of betrayal. Reikon wasn't very trusting to say the least.
But yes, she was slightly irritating, to say the least. She hadn't grated his nerves. Yet. Though seeing as though how she would not take the hint and leave him alone, she would, sooner or later.
He now turned to look at her, raising an eyebrow in bemusement. "I fail to see how my mood affects other living creatures." He pointed out dryly. Killing the fish? Whatever was she talking about?

Haha!
He'd taken the bait and had she less dignity she would have cheered. Luckily (for them both) she had a little more control than that and as a result, she simply smiled at his response. Stallions of his nature were so terribly entertaining to tease. Slowly but surely they became more and more irritated until they either accepted that they couldn't win, or they stormed off in a fit of rage. Those who accepted it were on the road to recovery but more often than not the latter tended to win. A shame really as some of the most attractive were so unprepared to accept a little light in their lives.
"You fail to see it eh?" She shook her head and released a soft sigh at his behaviour. Coiling her tail around her hind leg, she arched her neck to relieve the tension and then chose to continue. "Well for a start you're affecting my mood. Casting a shadow on the day is so terribly selfish, oh ho - yes it is!" Her smile soon returned and she released a soft sigh, wading out of the water as she spoke.
"Really, you don't strike me as that selfish but I could be wrong. Sometimes the voices tell me I'm wrong," she mused softly before raising a brow. "Do you think I'm wrong?"

"You could just head another way." He muttered with a roll of his eyes. "Or." He paused and flicked his mane out of his eyes; the ocean breeze was being a tad bit bothersome today, then continued. "I could just leave, just to save you the trouble."
Of course, he didn't really want to leave. Why couldn't they both just mind their own business?
"Everyone has their own opinion about someone." He replied, watching her step into the water. Such a strange individual she was.

"Aha, that didn't answer my question," she mused after a few moments. Alas his decision not to confirm whether or not she was crazy was not a great loss to her and instead, the smile simply grew larger (if that was even possible). He seemed to be the dreary sort, gruff and uninterested in anyone else but himself and his own musings. Really social encounters must have been terribly difficult for him though she did commend him for not stomping off following her immediate 'lectures' towards his behaviour.
"But I don't want to head another way, I came this way for a reason," she pointed out calmly. She abruptly clapped her tail against her flank and following this action, moved around to his otherside, observing his markings closely. They were simplistic but the striking difference between the colours made them easily noticable, despite his 'pastelle' colour he would definitely stand out in a crowd. "So to tell me to head another way is rather rude. I wanted to come to the beach today so why should I change my mind?"
Tilting her head to the side she finally released a small chuckle and sighed softly, "You are right though, everyone does have their own opinion even if it is inaccurate."

He only snorted in response. Whether or not he wanted to answer her query was up to him to decide. Who was he to judge on whether she was right or wrong only on their first meeting? Though she was talkative and rather annoying, she was just a mere acquaintance.
And she was stubborn in her own views as well. Just like how his friend was. He grumbled mentally. If the two ever met, he was sure he would be sandwiched in between both with their insistence. "True, I cannot change your mind. But if I bother you, or vice versa, it is our own choice to leave or stay." He could tolerate her for a while longer, the stallion though, keeping his eyes on the sea.
"It depends on what you think is accurate and what is not."

Oho ho ho!
She stole a smile as he continued to talk and canted her head to the side. She knew it, somewhere in side him there was a tiny social butterfly just dying to get out. He was talking without a great deal of nudging from her, taking into account each of her phrases and was responding to them with coherent thoughts of his own. Admittedly some of his responses were generalised and didn't take certain things into consideration but for all intents and purposes the stallion was indeed having a conversation with the mare and this impressed her.
Maybe there was hope for him yet?
"You're right...it is my own choice to stay because this is what I wanted to see and do this afternoon, but that doesn't mean I can't be considerate towards others too," she mused softly. Uncoiling her tail from around her leg, she swept it up to brush at her nose and cleared her throat. "For example, I would be considerate enough not to kill the fish..." she teased softly.

It was, he grudgingly admitted to himself, a nice change to talk to someone instead of listening to others talk; like the two others he lived with. The other stallion constantly tried to make conversation yes, and the usdia, at times, though he merely grunted in return most of the time.
Anyway, he wasn't obliged to reply her if he didn't want to. It was merely out of politeness, and a bit of annoyance that he actually was talking.
"Do you have something against fish?" He asked, eying her, an eyebrow raised in bewilderment.

Did she have something against...fish? Well obviously not if she was trying to protect them from the dark aura rippling from the grumpy stallion! She afforded a soft laugh at this, tossing her braids away from her face with a shake of her head. Ever bemused by the responses and odd questions she received, she found the entire thing to be a rather odd concept. Ah yes, he was a strange one indeed but that was what made him so fascinating - grumpy as he might have been he humoured her with conversation and on occasions mild surprise.
...She wasn't that strange now was she?
"Why would I have something against fish?" she asked, tilting her head to the side before flicking her gaze downwards to see if she could spot any of the silver slithers. Every now and again there was a flicker and then it vanished, indicating that they were there, though shy as one would expect from those who lived within the ocean - those in lakes were decidedly more curious.
"I find them fascinating, the way they move and act...how some always swim in a straight line and yet they never crash into each other...you know?"

"You were the one talking about killing them." He grumbled, shifting about awkwardly. Oh why oh why was he still standing here and continuing their conversation?
...Ah yes, it was because if he got back, he would be bothered by that horned guy to talk to them again. Either way, it didn't work out for him to have his own personal space. He always seemed to have this same problem; making friends with the chatty ones. Even the shy usdia was starting to open up!
