(liked the review format Dawn so I kept it)

Title: Berserk

Style: Manga

Author/Artist: Kentaro Miura

Publisher: Dark Horse

Volume: 1-? [It's up to 32 volumes in Japan and still coming out regular]

Age: 18+ (Though I started reading it when I was 14 sweatdrop ) Extreme blood and gore, mutlitple instances of rape and orgies, nightmarish imagry, and lots of cussing.

Review: They call him the black swordsmen, on his back he carries a seven foot sword with which he hunts the nightmarish servants of the God hand, in a never ending quest for Revenge and perhaps...redemption.

Born from a corpse, he is the one closest to death, his name is Guts.

Your favorite parts of Lord of the Rings combined with a truly twisted sense of nightmare that Lovecraft would adore, Berserk is the manga you show your friends when you A: want them to see anime isn't all big eyes and colorful hair. B: want to redifine the term epic for them and C: want them to seriously question your choice in entertainment and/or convice them you are a devil worshiper.

Shock value aside, this manga is far better then your standard "lone swordsmen battles demons" genre it takes its inspiration from. Told in breathless style with flowing art and prose, it's story is Shakespearien in scope and tradgedy, but personable and entertaining as only great graphic novels can be.

Kingdoms shall rise and fall, brother will fight brother, betrayal of the worst kind will tear a family apart, and perhaps, a man can circumvent his grisly destiny.

Rating: 11 out of 10.

Title: Duma Key

Style: Fiction Novel (Horror)

Author: Stephen King

Publisher: Scribner

Age: 18+ As typical of Stephen King's works the prose is frank and realistic, which usually mean characters who cuss often at least mentally, and think lewd thoughts. All that before the inevitable blood and gore as the novel darkens.

Review: Edgar Freemantle's world is in shambles. After a gruesome traffic accident claims his arm and mental health, his realtionship with his family deteriorates lost in a sea of rage and despair.

His psychologist has the answer, a change of scenery, in the Florida Keys, take up a rewarding hobby, rehabiliate in peace.

So Edgar relocates to an a quiet Floridean beach head to take up painting, and finds he has a knack for it, one that begins to lead him down a dark path when he realizes he paints the future, and he doesn't like what he sees.

Stephen King is one of Americas greatest living novelist, who's works both thrill the imagination and stimulate the mind. Duma Key is a slow burner, a concept that creeps up on you quietly, even in the earlier phases of the novel where you know something is incredibly wrong here but no true idea what...and you'll never guess the degree to which Edgar's new power is set to tear apart everything you or he once knew.

Full of compelling chracters who breath and live as much as you or I do, Duma Key is introspective as few works of fiction manage to be yet remains exciting, provactive, terrifying, and even touching throughout.

Ttitle: One Hundred Years of Solitude

Style: Fiction (magic sub-realisim)

Author: Gabriel García Márquez

Translator: Gregory Rabassa

Publisher: Harper and Row

Age: 18+ a lot of sex

Review: The Buendía family are a family full with strange sibilings from a gaint son to a daugther so holy she is taken to heaven without ever feeling death. However they also have the weight of being the creator of the Macondo a small town that seem only compose of those who don't fit it in the world and slowy they are not even fitting in Macondo and this slowly causes them to come to a choas that shall destroy them...

There is several intersting thing about this book, there is no fix point of time as it can speed up and slow down to a crawl. Character with pure fictional attributes are seen, more of less the book is amazingly well put and give you the feeling that if you're grandparent make those mistakes if you don't learn your bound the make them too.

Title: The Book Thief

Style: Historical Fiction

Author: Markus Zusak

Publisher: Randome House

Age: Probably 16 +, some of the imagery might be a little tough for younger teens

Review: It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery, as told by Death.

Not nearly as depressing as it sounds. Funny and heart renching in equal parts. I couldn't put it down
