The Doctor's first life traveling with pretty much just his granddaughter lasts him somewhere between 800 and 900 years. (I don't know the specific numbers.) He starts to pick up anyone who happens to notice him and now he's almost out of regenerations. Don't you think the Doctor has noticed this pattern?
