'Darkness'

Darkness falls,
bringing with it
a world
not of smell, or sight,
or touch -
but sound.

The taptap of my shoes
running on
the wet footpath
and the falling
of my tears
echo for miles
in this world.

In this world,
the trees sigh
as they turn
deep in slumber
and the lone frog
sings its sad song
to the marshes,
harmony to my heart.

I belong here,
like them,
like you.
In this world,
where the rain blankets the
softly sleeping mountains
and my bleeding soul.

But long after you are gone,
I will remain.
Locked in a world
where light spirals
into sound.

'Daybreak'

mauve on cream, red on white.
please help me get through this night.
Sadness falling, thick and fast
Unacknowledged, hours past
I understand: it could not be
but all the faults I see in me
convince me that I am not strong
I didn't think I'd last this long
But as I nurse these broken wings
something deep within me sings
My pain its beauty, not all gone
it's all you ever frowned upon
Dark drops of anger stain, sink in
I know now I will never win
But just like night fades into day
maybe my pain will go away.
