Maion stood tall, his wings tucked neatly into his body, the breeze was warm considering that there was a thick blanket of snow laying soft below his feet, it stuck to the bottom of his fur as if he was coated in glue. It was cooling. The stars always looked so much more brilliant when it snowed, they peeked through the clouds and their twinkling light captured the snowflakes so that they where momentarily illuminated as the fell gracefully to the floor. This was defiantly walking weather.

Taking yet another, slight laboured, step he began the long trudge through the snow. The plants that grew in the plains where different to the rest of the land he had seen, it was flat and almost dull in appearance, with the odd weed growing happily in a desperate attempt to lap up the drizzling light from the sun. Perhaps it was a pathetic existence but the fact was that it was still the most beautiful place for the snow, equalled only by the highest of mountaintops. Grunting softly under his breath he scanned the landscape, his mind seemed relatively blank at the moment; his recent encounters had exhausted him. Finding a nice spot by a lonely tree he felt sympathy towards it and continued his trudge, as he reached it small piles of snow slipped from its waxy leaves to the ground to be lost in the blanket of white. Sitting down he scanned the surroundings again, there seemed to be no movement or footsteps other than his own, but looks could be deceiving when the snow continued to fall in this mannerisms.

Suddenly Maion felt his main start to move so moved his eye towards the movement, in the next moment Elijah popped her head out starring directly at his eye before disappearing once more. He grunted under his breath, "Silly creature."

The pleasant call guided by an older mare, an Angeni sounded in the young filly's ears, her tail twitching side to side happily, she knew what this was all about it was time for bed and not disappointing her mother she calmly trotted to her side following her family to their usual resting place. There the heard settled down, the watchful eyes of her father keeping them safe, protected from any danger that may occur in the night. although there was a chance, there wasn't any danger and night after night it was the same routine; For some strange reason, the little ivory angeni struggled to sleep, every moment she came close to a peaceful slumber something would distract her, either the gentle chill of the breeze or the calling howls that only appeared at night, it was a baffling thought that she wasnt able to search at night or explore, but something whispered gently in her ears... That it was different to the day time and that made her ever more curious what the celestial moonlit lands had to bring.

Casting a glance over her siblings, a soft loving smile spread across her lips and caused her to stand, she wanted to explore, see what new things she could learn of at this hour, even if her family were to disagree she knew as they slept and had no knowledge of this, they couldn't possibly worry. Her slow careful steps took her forward along the soft, crunchy ground and with each step it seemed to glitter even brighter the snow was such a lovely creation nature had to offer, it was beautiful through the day with the cool breeze that filtered amongst the lands caressing the earth inhabitants with nothing less than a welcoming feeling - at night it was even beautifuler, shining brightly, the moonlit rays stroking its silky sight, it was just like a large pile of sugar, sweet and felt delicate.

Journeying through the dark, eerie forest her gaze set directly to an opening within them, leading out into a vast white land, nothing but a smooth surface as little blades of grass tried to poke through the suffocating substance. It looked so pretty and her glance towards the multi-tones sky just made her jaw drop in awe, it had been a while since the start of winter now and so far the sky had been clouded in gray but what she saw was like nothing Taharial had ever seen, it was even more amazing than the beach she had visited not so long ago. "aww how amazing! Such a lovely night, the stars look so bright and they stretch on forever" she chuckled noting the tones of black mingled with dark purple and the bright stars watchful over the beings that stared back at them.

A low voice, followed by rustling caught the Angeni's attention whilst two glowing white wings shone deeply within her sight; pausing, she was careful to study what was there but she wasn't fearful just considering what it could of been, there the lump sparkled and complimented the sky from above, it was only another stroke of awe that caused her to walk further towards the mysterious creature, stopping only a few safe paces away, as she held her head high, ears perking she smiled comfortingly, speaking softly. "Hello there... I hope I'm not interrupting you its just that, your markings caught my attention... I wanted to say that they really are amazing" she nodded with a sweet chuckle soon tilting her head slowly to the side.

Maion listened to the snowfall; each snowflake made a soft note that when put together caused an orchestra to start falling from the sky. He watched it softly; resting his head on his front legs while his wings remained tucked in above him providing an extra layer of warmth. He wondered why he had not yet found a new home, why had he forced himself to stay outside even in the winter months. His thoughts drifted like the snow to other creatures he had met lately, each of them seemed to have markings that allowed them to merge into their surroundings, that is when his thoughts lingered on Sengdroma for moment. She was the most beautiful of all the mares he had met so far. As his thoughts lingered on her for a moment his ears twitched with the faint noise of movement.

Snapping out of sleepy daze he looked to where the source of the noise originated from, there seemed to be a well-camouflaged foal happily trotting towards him. He looked beyond her for sign of her family but none came, this worried him a little, his protective nature taking grip. Yet as she approached, daring and free he couldn’t help but smile at her. She was so naïve and innocent. Usually he didn’t say much, but he gathered that this young one would not be offended by anything he said.

"Yes, they are a reflection of the night sky." He continued to smile at her, the lack of colour that scrolled magnificently over her fragile body made her look almost like a snowflake herself. "Now tell me young one, are you cold?"

Lifting up one of his great wings in a manner that he intended to be almost an invitation for her to sit next he continued to smile. "Perhaps you can talk to me for a while, my name is Maion. Yourself little one?" Although his thoughts wondered where her parents where he felt that his first concern was to ensure she was not cold, after all he could return her once she was warm, but while frozen she was at risk of death. He scanned the landscape once more for a moment. Hopefully the creatures of the night would remain dormant due to the current weather conditions, he did not want her to see any blood shed, after all he would fight to protect her and himself.

The larger male spoke with great kindness, he didn't know her and yet he was going to allow her shelter within his own wing. She casted a comforting smile, for a moment just pausing, to let each soft, flake fall gently down against her skin, Winter had been amazing so far and the blanketed ground had been fun to play on and explore, despite that it also seemed to be a season to meet many interesting Soquili, she guessed at her age many wouldn't be so well known to others but due to the growing curiosity the little angeni was taking time to learn new things.

It was true the air had a fine chill to it, throwing random shivers up her tiny structure however she loved the feel of nature around her;being an older, wiser male she knew he would be quite wise and followed his offer up. being careful not to feel rude she nodded and whispered quietly. "Thank you, it is quite cold" before making her way beside the starry figure and lowering her tiny frame to the cool, shadowy ground, the tree above them hanging over them watchfully with its own sense of shelter from the falling powder. With a small nod, she casted a pleasant smile up to him, now closer from before his markings were clear, and brighter than ever for a short while she couldn't help but stare, unlike her families marking which were pretty plain he had such extravagant ones, eye catching and beautiful. The night sky was something she had come to adore but her gaze was soon taken away and faced directly towards the glittering ground.

"Of course! Company sounds wonderful." She chuckled, her wings shifting so they were comfortably by her side, in wonder she wondered what he would like to talk about, maybe he was a traveler? Or maybe he was at this spot every night, that made the small wings by her ear flutter slowly; Catching his name, the dim shine of her eyes lit up happily. "Well its nice to meet you Maion! My name is Taharial" a faint chuckle sounded, her tail flicking side to side.

Maion watched the young foals movements closely, she seemed full of energy despite the late hour, and he imagined that she had been equally enthusiastic within the daylight. Chuckling softly to himself he covered her softly with his mighty wing to try and keep her warm in the coldness of the snow. Turning his head softly towards her he continued to smile, he spoke once more his voice strong "Can you fly yet?"

He cocked his head in a moment’s curiosity at her as she wiggled the small feathery wings around her head. His eyes wandered to the sky, it seemed that the snow was slowly starting to stop; yet the ground remained in a blanket of white. The stars where more visible now as the few clouds in the sky started to disperse, yet there was a cooling breeze. "Its nice to meet you Taharial." He was curious about her name, "Does it mean anything?"

How coincidental to start the topic off, as the question rolled off his tongue Taharial chuckled nervously, tucking her wings tighter against her side and smiled a little looking up to him, matching his glance. "Well I have tried... Though I don't seem to be a able to get the hang of it, I can glide... If I try get any higher I stumble. I'm not sure why though" Her ears flickered forward she wasn't ashamed of not being able to fly, it was still the process of learning but something told her, she had a bigger problem to face with her wings. Then the next question, he had a good eye for questions, like he already knew things about her, her tail skimmed the ground either way and she nodded in delight. "Yes, it does have a meaning!... Although I don't know that yet either, I was told I needed to do some searching to find that out. All in the mystery" Once she had answered his own curiosities, she then decided to retrace his own questions.

"How about you Maion, are you able to fly?" She tilted her head when she spoke of it quietly, a small lump of snow landing on the tip of her nose, wiggling it surprised. "And your name, may I know if it has a meaning also?"

Maion smiled happily as he watched her, she seemed to be in a curious stage of the world, a warmness flooded from her expression and body language with each glance of the world around. He watched the snow as it fell softly to the ground, licking the ground in a gentle blanket of white, yet it did appear to be stopping.

His mind wandered, if she could not fly then that did mean she was still very young but at least she was still trying, he could recall the first time he had ever flown, it had been magical. Smiling he listened more to her words, it seemed that she too was being brought up in the ancient ways of the Angeni, perhaps she of pure blood also, his Mother would have approved, yet something in Maion lingered untrue, did it matter that much if love fell between and Angeni and some who was not? Sighing softly he suppressed the thought pushing it the deepest region of his mind, the notion was no attitude for an Angeni to hold. Refocusing on the world around him he smiled, he had never heard of the name Taharial before, it could of meant a thousand things.

As she directed her simple questions back at him he nodded his head, he could indeed fly, after all he lived many miles away from here in the highest reaches of the mountains, a place only reachable by those of Angeni heritage. Yet her second question was not as easy, he was still discovering the full boundaries of his name but he had managed to secure a fragile grasp upon it, nodding softly once more he smiled. “My journey has shown me that my place belongs with the Ocean, my name is equalled to that feeling, yet I still have much to learn myself little one.” He paused for a moment, sticking out his tongue to allow a single white snowflake fall upon it before melting into nothingness. His jaw snapped shut trapping his tongue neatly inside once more. He waited, watching the blades of grass as they flowed gently through the snowy blanket before speaking once more, his voice slightly cold, “the learning is never done.”

He turned his head towards her, his wings moving gently to ensure she was warm before he spoke, “Would you like me to walk you home?” As he finished his words he cocked his head slightly to one side, “or would you prefer” he paused for just a moment to take in her expression before continuing, “if I showed you the wonders of the night before I do?”

Taharial listened to the larger soquili his words were full of thought and wisdom, it made the small foal chuckle, her eyes never once peeling away from him, she felt it was the politer thing to do, showing interest in every little detail, even the simpler things however it wasn't that she wasn't interested, of course she was! Everything about the world was like a little piece of a giant jigsaw puzzle and once he paused her gaze faltered at the fading white cotton drops, melting away as they tapped upon her nose.

"The ocean.." she uttered quietly, her ears perked at that she remembered spending time with a good friend of hers called Ame and had seen the ocean if only for a short amount of time, it was beautiful, doused within the golden glow, glistening as casted sparkles danced only meters above the calm swaying waves. Finally Taharial shook away the distant gaze and a wide smile spread along her lips, shifting her hooves to cross aside her as she leaned further into him, he really was awarm and it spared comfort within the small filly. "The ocean is beautiful, your very lucky to be so... Connected to it." She answered softly watching him as he stuck his tongue out to catch a small snowflake.

He was still learning the wonders of the world? How big was it really, these lands had only been a piece of it and to learn everything was nearly impossible, perhaps he knew quite a range of things, but what mattered most was to truly understand it, something told the angeni that he did and that enlightened her. Soon the few words came and 'home' was one of them, even though it was for the best, she couldn't help but want to stay by his side and learn more, talk to him for a while longer. She had enjoyed his comapny so far, it was pleasant and calming, then he paused about to spout a suggestion. She raised her head, her eyes casted upwards in curiosity before the last trailing words were spoken.

"Id love it if you could show me!... As long as it isnt too much trouble." She nodded happily in acceptance to his offer, and smiled joyfully. This was a great idea! She figured he was safe to be around, he was kind and gentle and looked very strong but she wouldnt want to be a bother to him. "is there much to learn about the night as there is in the day?" Taharial asked, shifting her head as the frozen dark bangs slipped aside her pale skin.

As his mind wandered towards the Ocean he felt his heart drawn towards it once more, he could never sever the connection between him and it, yet he knew he would not want to. It was a connection that he loved, his duty was something he felt he could successfully achieve, considering there was so much in the world that seemed impossible to him. As his eyes looked to the young Angeni beside him he decided that a family was probably one of them. After all he was called by the Ocean to its side, how would that be fair to one he loved dear enough to have a family with in the first place. Shifting the thought he listened to her words in response to his offer.

Maion laughed at the young filly’s response, she seemed as innocent and intrigued by the world around him as he had been a young colt. It was refreshing to see such enthusiasm twinkle behind her eyes as she spoke; a slight rush crawled within her words. He chuckled for a moment, his chest shaking before him as he slowly began to stand. Once he was his full height he stretched his wings for a moment before pulling them tightly to his sides, it had always been useful to have to giant wings, they had sheltered him from many of the harsh weather conditions that the world had thrown upon him. He looked down upon the young Angeni. She seemed fragile, yet as the snow slowly stopped he considered the possibility that it would begin to warm shortly. Ever smiling he nodded his head before speaking, “if anything the night holds far more secrets.” He knew it was no hassle to share with her some of the wonders around them, yet he also knew it would only be the surface that they scratched. Speaking once more he allowed his words to sparkle with a soft happiness, “I would not have asked if I did not want to show you, little one.”

His eyes turned to look at the clearing a head, the shadows began to dance within the trees yet he could not sense the presence of any creatures lurking within them. He shook his head so that his hair rippled towards the ground causing the odd linger snowflake to be launched away from him. His voice returned with alls its strength as he spoke once more, “what would you like to see and learn about first then little one?”

Taharial chuckled, her two black orbs falling over the large stallion as he stood, tall and mighty; Wings large, white as the snow itself flickered in her eyes for a short dazzling moment before returning to his side, she scoped the lands with her enthused gaze, excited for what it held. She had been given quite a variety of choice to ponder on and that she would most certainly do. She walked forwards looking left, then right, the soft shine of silver catching her attention followed with a warm hearted smile. "Well..." She began quietly whilst briefly shutting two thoughtful eye lids.

Night fell and the silent slumber of those around her stirred under the star frozen sky, stars twinkling in delight. unknown to the rest of the herd her brother, Tsaphiel had wondered off and Father had been one to notice at great time but not right away, she remembered the calls of her brother and the grunt of another, it was dark and when she had curiously stood to try peer over at the creature, it was just a black haze.

She hadn't been told what it was that night... Although the wanting to know of what it was, made her sigh once again, her curiosity was there and her gaze fixed on Maion with a happier chuckle. "I was told the night can be very dangerous, thats why my parents don't like me and my siblings wandering too far even in the day, but especially nights. My brother was attacked by another one of us, but a different kind. I wasn't told what attacked him that night but I can't help but want to know because... I know that creature, that others fear so much are just mis-guided? Everyone surely has a heart." her wings fluttered away the powdery snow that had took rest there until it stopped complete and only the wind was left sweeping snow around she tucked them neatly back by her side and trotted on a few more steps, smiling happily.

Even her father had said, love is one of the most powerful things in this world, to accept and to be kind like her mother and her sister meant a different kind of strength.

Tentatively he listened to the curious little questions, she seemed too young to be worrying of such dangers but perhaps if they had found her and her family there was no way of truly shielding her from them. A shame, one that seemed to tug heavily upon his heart as he remember the three foals that he had saved from the clutches of a skinwalker all those years ago, what had ever become of them? It was a question that he contemplated often, and one that produced many colourful images of families and friends that he hoped they had experienced. Tugging himself back into the world of snow and ice he allowed his eyes to focus once more upon the little mare, with flesh as white as the snow itself.

Taking one deep breath he contemplated the correct way to describe the horrors without scaring her too much. "Within the shadows" he paused, it seemed pointless to place flowery images around these creatures, after all even Maion himself disliked them to his core. Continuing his voice seemed slightly more aggressive, "lurks a creature that fights and hunts alone, without mercy, they are called skinwalkers. The embodiment of evil." Carefully he watched the little mares’ expression, hoping that she would not seem too distressed by his words. He had once been told about the power of truth.

Suddenly he heard a strange whispering upon the air, it caught his attention and forced him to turn towards it. Ears twitching he attempted to separate the sounds, eventually hearing the sound of crying and calls for assistance, a call that he saw to be his duty, a duty he took pride in. "I am afraid little one..." he paused and looked to her with a soft smile, remembering that it was likely he had just scared her. "...that I must go to help someone, so you go straight home –OK? If you do then I promise to come back when the seasons change." He smiled once more and nodded softly before lowering his head and caressing her neck in a friendly affectionate way that he hoped would comfort her.

Taking a step away from her he spread his giant wings wide, stuck his tongue out for a moment to measure the concentration of the wind and snow that still billowed around them both, before he leaped into the air taking to the skies. Flapping his wings every now and then he began to gain altitude, but before the little white mare was out of sight he allowed himself one last look. He hoped that the creatures of the night would stay away due to the cold weather. Refocusing on his rescue mission he picked up speed and disappeared from her sight.
