Earlier in the summer, I bought some markers. Didn't really start using them much until a couple weeks ago, though. Not that I did much over the summer, art-wise.
Ahh.. I'm just making things up as I go along, technique-wise. If y'all have any tips or whatnot, that'd be cool.

I feel a bit silly posting avatar art in here, as it's not usually very art-faggy, but eh. It was just finished today and seems to be one of the most coherent things I've done with the markers so far, other than perhaps that landscape with the badly shaded mountains.

I think the last one is probably the best out of these as far as coloring goes. I don't know what kind of markers you're using, but I'm not sure how much I like being able to see the marker strokes that heavily on the first two, especially on the second one where you can see where the strokes overlap in the sky. Instead of looking intentionally scribbly, it just looks rushed.

If you can find a way to blend the colors together more like you did on that last one, it'll look better. That's kind of my personal preference, though. I think the scribbly, messy look works depending on what you're going for, but with the kind of stuff you're doing it doesn't seem to go together as well.

Except for the mermaid. That mermaid is cool.

Oooo markers. Finding the right technique is a personal choice really. My favorite mediums are markers, watercolor, and acrylics. You really just need to keep trying different techniques until you find the right one. Personally i like seeing strokes of the marker, but in a way that your eye naturally wants to blend the colors. Sort of like the Impressionists. You should look up these artists: Van Gough, Monet, Renoir, Cassat, and Goughin (sp?). They all sort of played with obvoius brushstroke and color juxtapositions. smile I hope this helps. heart
