Iartuupe had left the lands of his pride several days ago - following an instinct born deep inside of him. Though he appeared to have forgotten that first female he had mated with some time ago ... he remembered her. And he had made plans to seek her out. For if she had had cubs, they would certainly be old enough now to take from her.
Which was exactly what he planned to do if (when) he found her. Though the lands were large, Iar was confident, somehow, that he would find any offspring of his, and return with them.
And they would swell the ranks of his pride even more.
Now, he was nearing a pride he had heard talk of - where females held dominance and males had lesser roles... an idiotic concept, he thought. At the least, they should be equal. Tch.
But... he had heard rumors that the lioness he sought had come this way. And so ... he followed her trail...

Am'Ondea was wandering. He had a tendency to wander, just as he had a tendency to be completely isolated from the other cubs in the pride. His mother was a member, he...lived in the territory, but he never felt like a part of it. Somehow, he didn't think he ever would. It wasn't a bad thing, just...a thing. It didn't really matter to him, anyways. He enjoyed spending the time by himself. The older he got, in fact, the less it bothered him that he didn't have friends to play with.
And so he was skulking through territorial borders, not doing much at all other than keeping out of the way of others, particularly the grown females. While he had never actually gotten in trouble, a casual cuff from adults had taught him well about getting in the way of those dominant. And the last thing Dea wanted was to be scolded for anything. He didn't mind living in the quiet obscurity that came of being a young, nondescript-coloured male in the Kunanda pride.
Then again, he still harboured the secret hope that someday he would meet his father and then...well, he knew in his heart of hearts that his father was a great lion, and he would be able to follow in his pawsteps. And then he'd be able to lead a life that didn't involve always checking to make sure he wasn't in the way.
How quickly disillusionment comes to those who least expect it.

When Iar spotted the young lion wandering about the borders of the Kunanda lands... a part of him knew, immediately. This was his son. Without a second thought, really, he set to following the younger, paws quiet on the ground.
Yes... the way that he moved, those colors, and his eyes... but he should not be skulking like that before the females. The softest of growls. He should stand tall, and stare them down, fight if he had to...
It wasn't long before the young one was on his own again, though... and then, Iar moved closer. He waited until Am'ondea was in a place difficult to see or to get to, and then leapt toward the other - jaws aimed for the scruff of his neck. Time to leave this place... my son.

Dea was most emphatically not paying attention. The young dreamer was already thinking about something totally unrelated to the world around him. Someday he'd leave this pride. Someday, when he was all grown, he'd go off and maybe start his own pride. He'd certainly find his father. Yes, that he would do.
He didn't hear the other lion coming until it was far too late to do anything other than look up, scream defiance, and duck, trying to roll sideways in an attempt to mitigate the attack. Rolling onto his back, he realized after a moment, wasn't the best of ideas. Yowling furiously, he pulled his hindpaws up over his belly, extending all four sets of claws.
"Gerroooofff!" he screamed, laying his ears flat and spitting furiously, the look on his face one of utter terror.

Well. At least he was quick, for being raised in such a soft pride of females. Though small, those claws did force Iar to back off a bit - as he didn't want to lose an eye or anything. Growling softly, the larger lion eyed his son, head tilting a bit. How to handle this...?
Sitting down, he smiled almost indulgently at the younger. "Very good," he purred. "A good way to avoid an attack ... However..."
One huge paw flashed out - intending to knock the other rolling, get him defenseless again.

As soon as his attacker relented a bit, Dea moved to scramble back onto his feet. Still squalling furiously, waiting for someone to come to his rescue and simultaneously ashamed that he needed to be rescued, he pulled his ears back and raised himself to all four paws.
Just in time to be knocked over by the fearsome male.
Even as he tumbled onto his side, nose over tail, Dea noticed in the back of his head that this strange assailant, so much prouder and more violent than the males of his pride (an outsider), seemed to derive some sort of amusement from the attack.
"What do you want from me?" he snarled, trying to scramble back to his feet and lash out at the same time.

Now, however, it was easy to avoid the smaller lion's attacks - almost laughably so. "What do I want?" Iar mused, a strange sort of glint in his eyes. Should he force the young one, or attempt to explain and see what choice he would make?
Drawing himself up, he growled down at the other, "Stop trying to attack me. I am your father. And I have come to take you away, to the place where you should be."

Now that stopped Am'Ondea dead in his tracks. His what? Stopping in mid-scramble, he fell heavily down onto his stomach and looked up at the lion in a mix of fear and astonishment. This was his father? This was their first meeting?
Somehow...it was different from what he expected. "You...you're my father?" he stammered, blinking in abject terror at Iar. "But you...I mean...we just...you attacked me." He flattened his ears but never looked away. He was almost shaking now, completely petrified of what would happen next. Was this lion lying to him? Was this really his father? He saw some of his own colour in Iar's vibarnt main, but...

Iar gazed down at the other coldly - not sure if he liked that doubt or not. Some suspicion was to be expected, but surely their kinship should be obvious?
"It was not an attack," he pointed out. "I was merely trying to get you away from this place as fast as possible."
There was a small pause, and he smirked. "Did you truly think you belonged here, with these soft females... my son?"

The explanations made the young lion flatten his ears in worry. He was trying to take him away? But what about his mother? True, she was the only member of the pride he was concerned with, but still...how could he just leave?
"Away....right now?" he asked nervously, looking Iar in the eyes. Yes, he could see how this lion, this scarred, cold lion...he could see how he could be related. The resemblance was there. But Am'ondea wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that. After all, he had never imagined it this way...

"Yes, now," Iar said, firmly. Who knew how much the boy had already been corrupted by living here?
"I regret that I couldn't find you before now," he murmured, almost to himself. Then he focused his attention on Am'ondea again and rumbled at the younger lion.
"You will have to work hard to catch up to the others."

"What about my mother, though?" Am'ondea asked doubtfully, putting his ears back and staying his distance from the larger lion. He had never expected their reunion to be so...odd. Or rough. And what did he mean others?
"Catching up?" he asked.

Iar growled at that, a low, dangerous sound. "I don't care what your mother does or does not do ... but she cannot come with you. She is not a demon, and is not worthy," he said, raising head a bit.
"They have already begun their training," he pointed out then, leaning down toward the younger lion a bit.

"What?" Dea stammered, moving back from Iar when he heard the word 'demon'. What was going on? He didn't have any idea at all, just that this lion wanted him to come along. "I..." he said, looking over his shoulder. He couldn't just leave without his mother, but...it didn't seem like he had much of a choice. This larger lion, his father or not, didn't seem like the type who would hesitate to hurt him if he needed to. And Dea didn't want to be hurt.
"I..." he began again, then dropped his head and tail, almost going completely limp. "All right," he said softly. Obviously he didn't have much of a choice. Iar was going to do what he was going to do. Dea just had to pray he didn't get hurt.

Iar made a pleased rumbling sound at that - moving to lick the top of the young one's head in an uncharacteristic little display of approval. It was good that he recognized where he belonged... even though he was reluctant at the moment.
That would all change soon.
"Follow me, then," Iar said - turning to go. "I trust you will be able to keep up..."
