Past the scantily clad waitresses and beneath the glaring unnatural colors of Marigold’s lights, Miles made his way across the main sitting area to the guarded stairs. The guards were not too intimidating, but they were openly armed. “ I’m here for the game. Bill asked me to come.” One of the guards looked him up and down before moving to the side for him to pass. Miles made his way down the dirty stairs, away from the annoying music, into another cloud of cigarette smoke. It was a small square room, with furniture pressed against the wall to make room for the round wooden table in the middle. There was only one source of stale light, illuminating the faces beneath it.

He had been the last to arrive; the eyes of the players slightly raised their heads in interest. Another set of guards at the bottom of the steps held up a hand to halt him. Miles pulled his gun out from his side and handed it to the guard, very used to such procedures. The other players shifted as he pulled up a chair, taking off his expensive suit jacket to rest on the back of it.” Miles Morozov. “ he said casually, shaking hands. He recognized a much older woman, with long nails holding a cigarette, adorning bold dark makeup to match her suit. Her name was ‘Felisha’ if he recalled correctly, an important contact.

The players mostly chit-chatted amongst themselves, getting comfortable and shuffling cards. There was going to be a lot of money on the table that night, but Miles wasn’t there for the money. At any questions or openings in conversation, he would answer or join in with pleasant replies, quickly establishing a charming aura that made the others at ease with him there. He didn’t want to give out too much information or give out too much personality. These were people with poker experience, with just as much tact at reading faces; usually for more than just playing purposes.

The sound of another approaching caused those at the table to look up. Kyrin smiled at the first set of guards, repeating nearly the same information as Miles; since she knew who the host was, it was his name she would need for access. Her jet black high heels clicked against the concrete stairs as she met with the second set of guards. She entered just past them before turning to them and slipping off her coat, handing it to one of them, giving them the information that her weapons were with it. As the jacket slid of her body, it revealed a form fitting black dress. The dress accented Kyrin’s curves and her heels made her appearance even more alluring. The dress itself was a strapless black dress that fell at about mid thigh and was accented with lace. It bore a slight resemblance to lingerie, but was definitely made to be worn out. On her right shoulder blade a colorful depiction of an imperial Japanese dragon was displayed proudly. All who knew Han, or knew of the man, were able to recognize immediately that the tattoo as the one given to those who the Matsui family considered their heirs.

The guard that stood with her jacket looked over at the table and quickly apologized for the lack of seating, while the other moved to find another chair. The guard with the chair apologized to those at the table and settled Kyrin in beside Miles and another of the men at the table. As she sat, Kyrin noticed that all eyes were on her, and she hid the delight from her glacier eyes. “Kyrin Matsui.” She said lightly, shaking hands with those at the table as well. She even introduced herself to Miles. She watched his expression; if the fact that she was there wasn’t enough, the dress that she was wearing was one that he’d bought her.

It was immensely difficult for Miles to keep his cool. The nerve that she had to show up, especially in such a flashy way, was overwhelming, and it was only with skill that he was able to play off like he didn’t know the intruder, shaking her hand. The owner, Bill, on the other hand, was elated to hear the name “Matsui”, and pretended like he had invited her all along, if only to keep her there. Felisha gave a skeptical look at Kyrin and at the other men in the room who had just had their attention stolen by the black-clad vixen. She seemed somewhat pleased with herself, and, beside his inner agitation, Miles couldn’t resist soaking her in with his eyes.

The game continued shortly after, dealing out cards while making small talk, which quickly turned to light business talk. No one was too inclined to openly state what their business was or who the directly worked under yet, keeping language vague and leaving implied statements. When one of the players mentioned gambling and casinos, Miles worked his way into the conversation, getting some new information in exchange for his own. That was his main interest point, improvising on how Jaydn could gain some control of that part of the city, or at least inching his way into it. But Miles wasn’t the only one taking attention into that conversation. A shady man, sitting nearby with a tacky Hawaiian shirt seemed concerned with Miles gaining all of this new information.

The man in the Hawaiian shirt, who was on his second glass of scotch, let his eyes drift over to Miles, he lowered his eyes and said in an icy tone, “So Mr. Morozov, do you enjoy the thrill of cheating so much that you would do it in Bill’s own room?

All eyes shifted to Miles as he replied pleasantly, “Excuse me?” He could hardly believe that anyone would be calling him a cheater.

Kyrin looked from Miles to the man in the shirt and said, “That’s quite an accusation Mr. Walters.”

Mr. Walters was irritated as he pointed at Miles‘ sleeve, “I watched him pull a card out of his sleeve and set it in his hand. Why else do you think he bet that much? He hasn’t bet that much all night!” All eyes turned back to Miles and there was a sudden uproar in the room.

Miles could not surpass an icy glare to match his voice. “You should be careful of who you throw your suspicions at, especially considering with the way you’ve been dealing.

To this Mr. Walter looked outraged, “I beg your pardon!

Kyrin took a sip of her wine and said, “You, Mr. Walter, are a liar and a cheater.” Her voice was calm, but her eyes portrayed her disgust as she set her glass back down.

Then, all of the sudden, the table was on its side and Mr. Walter was yelling at the top of his lungs, cursing at Miles and challenging his integrity. Kyrin’s wine ended up all down her front and she cursed as well.
The shifting table had all of the players on their feet in alarm, shouting also. Walter lunged at Miles and fists were flying between the two men, exchanging blows while others jumped in to pull them apart, getting punched themselves, and somewhat joining in the fray. The guards tried to stop the brawl, but it was nothing but a blur of confusion.
As Kyrin tried to pull Miles away from Walter, a fist made contact with her face, causing her to stumble back and yelled loudly.

Having had quite enough and irritated by the pain spreading across her eye, Kyrin pulled out the gun she had hidden along her inner thigh. Cocking it and aiming it at Walter she demanded, “Back off now!” Her voice could be heard above the chaos as she continued, “If you lay another hand on Miles, I swear by all that is good that I will blow your head off.” As soon as Kyrin pulled out her gun the guards did as well.

The fight was suddenly frozen as Kyrin’s voice pulsed over the room. Everyone ceased the brawling and stared at the newly revealed gun, and then to the guards pointing their guns in return. “Alright, alright!” Bill came in between the pointed guns. “Let’s all just calm down shall we?” The guards slackened their grip on the guns, lowering them a little. Immediately, Walter made to leave and a guard took hold of his arm. “I can walk on my own.” he grumbled, shrugging off the man’s hand. There seemed to be a sigh in the room as he left.
Miles moved his fingers to the side of his mouth and felt a wetness there. Pulling it back, he saw the red of his blood, and looked down to see that some of it had splattered on his handsome shirt from his lips and nose.

Kyrin followed Walter’s path out with narrowed blue eyes but lowered her gun when she saw no further threat. With her wine soaked through her dress, Kyrin’s irritation was not fading. With a sigh she wiped at it but there was nothing she could do. Grabbing her jacket from where it was placed she slipped it over her shoulders and dropped the gun in one of the pockets. With lowered eyes she apologized to Bill for the trouble that was caused.

Miles followed Ky out, shaking Bill’s hand and apologizing. Then went up the stairs, and without pausing, lit a cigarette with a sigh.

Kyrin cast Miles a look when he lit the cigarette but said nothing. The two walked in silence out of the bar and out the door. After they had walked a block or two Kyrin shivered slightly. The night air was chilly and the wine was still wet against her skin. Running a hand over her face, Kyrin cringed slightly, her eye hurt, and the pain had begun to throb again.

Another, larger jacket was draped over her shoulder as Miles observed her shivering. He took a drag and held the bridge of his nose as it had finally stopped bleeding. “Well, that could have gone better.” he murmured, somewhat spitefully.

“Obviously.” Kyrin muttered, still very irritable. After realizing how she’d said it she quickly thanked him from the jacket, not wanting to seem ungrateful.

He didn’t say anything for a moment, wanting, if anything, to just get back to the building and out of the cold. The meeting had been a disaster, but at least he had gotten some useful information from one of the players about who to contact when it came to gambling and casinos. Miles glanced at Kyrin, her eye steadily blackening. “Was it really necessary to crash the party?“ He knew that Kyrin wasn’t going to leave it alone, but his irritation was starting to burn up again just remembering it

Kyrin’s temper flared at his accusation, “I didn’t crash the party, I was keeping you from getting your face beaten in.” She paused and then continued, “If I remember correctly, I wasn’t the one accused of cheating.”
