
The sound of the running water soothed him, not from tense, bitter thoughts as they'd once been, but from the seemingly perpetual high he'd been on as of late. Suddenly having offspring to care for, a mare to console that he would not leave and spend hours with just gaping at the impossibility of it all... well, all of that would be a good reason to feel like you're on top of the world, now wouldn't it?
Jaci sighed, smiling softly at his reflection. Hard to believe that less than a year ago, this was the same face looking to separate himself as much as physically possible from his family, wandering without purpose or desires. Now here he was, a family of his own, and without any reason at all to pursue his previous nomadic lifestyle. Had his father been the same? Would his brothers, sisters? There was a thought worth pondering.
For a moment, his attention was diverted, misty green eyes following a bright blue butterfly as it made its way lazily past his face. How long had it been since he stopped to pay attention to such little things in life?
