Personality/Rp contest!

Start: Now, Oct 5th 2008
Finish: Tuesday, Oct 7th 1pm EST

User Image

I'm pleased to introduce you to the Palui you will be trying for! <3 But wait... who is this little cutie? Is it a boy? A girl? What's it's name? It's up to YOU to decide. <3 In this contest, you will design the parameters of the palui -- where it lives, what it eats, who it likes, etc <3

User Image

I'm also pleased to introduce you to Artemis, TawnyAngel's new girly. They are related, but again, it's up to you to decide how. You can make them twins, or just siblings, or perhaps even half siblings. Were they separated at birth? Do they live together? Be as creative, or as traditional, as you'd like. ^^ <3 The only rule I have in this is they are relatively the same age, so one cannot be the other's mother or father.

Rules

1. This is an RP/Concept contest. Meaning it does not necessarily have to be written in a story form. However, if you're feeling creative and want to make a story to summarize their relationship, by all means! You may get creativity points in our eyes. ^^ However, you may not. Don't feel obligated to write an rp response <3 That also means that even if you write a beautiful rp response, the best of all the rp responses, that doesn't mean you're going to win automatically. So please, don't be offended if we like someone else's concept better than your masterfully written rp entry. ;.; <3

2. I don't care how many Palui you have <3 Whether you have fifty or none, everyone can participate <3

3. Winner cannot breed the palui (if it's male) with Artemis. Sorry guys, they're related. >.>

4. You cannot give this Palui away, if you win. Again, sorry guys >.>()

5. This Palui is not technically rp required, but I think it'd be nice if the two related palui got a chance to rp and such >.> That is kind of the point. But again, not exactly rp required... <3

6. WINNING HISTORY/RP DOES NOT NECESSARILY BECOME WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Unless Artemis was not involved at all, the winning entry does not necessarily become the story you both will go by. Both the winner and Tawny will have to discuss what they want the story to be, with both compromising to come up with a good story. If no compromise can be made, the two were separated at birth and the histories will be completely different (some rules may apply towards histories, such as your palui cannot come from a GOD, or anything equally... unrealistic.)

7. .... I can't think of anything else, so rules may be added as I think of them. XD Don't worry, I'll be sure to inform you all when new rules pop up <3

Artemis

"Artemis is fairly small for a palui but toughly muscled and confident of stance. She is independent by nature, but enjoys cooperating with others when the chance arises (not least because it makes life a lot easier.) Though she is used to the harsh realities faced by a wild palui daily, she is optimistic and positive no matter what the situation. Her main failing is, perhaps, her pride; though she is not arrogant, she sometimes gets herself into fights that could be avoided if she were willing to lose face."

Taki-di

PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 11:48 am

Name: Taki-di
Palui Name: Capricorn
Palui Gender: Male
Relation to Artemis: Atremis is Capri's sister, whom he loves, but get on her nerves cause hes always fussing over her.
One word you would use to describe him/her: Dependable
Brief desc of personality: Capricorn got his name for his personality traits. Alot of Palui that know him call him Capri though. Capri too is strong and a bit stocky, though is quite swift. Hes hard-working and focused on what ever hes doing. Capri also is practical and competent, and would help any pPalui in need. He is a bit aloof though, showing that not even he is perfect with pride like his sister. Capri is used to being independant, but ever since Artemis broke her foreleg, hes always asking her if she needs help or if shes hurt. Trouble is, sometimes he can be blunt.
History/rp response: The sun warmed beach was a favorite place of young Paluis to play at. The waves rolled onto the coast, lapping at the shore. Squeaks of exitement came from the young ones as the dabbled at the salt water washing onto the shore. A proud mother sat nearby, her eyes half closed as she yawned and settled down to watch her little ones play. Three little children she had. She smiled, watching them play, wrestling at each other and splashing in the shallows. Only one thing betrayed that this watchful mother was not as relazed as she seemed. Her ears were pricked high, listening, and her fluffy tail twitched as every sound.

Gulls were knowen to swoop down and steal pups for dinner. A shiver ran down her spine and got up slowly.
"Artemis, Capricorn, Lilia, come over here," He she called. Her pups broke apart and let out squeaks of protest. Their squeaks turned to hushed whimpers as a harsh call rang out. Their mother froze for a mooment, before cannoning forward as fast as she could as a dark shadow drew near her fear sticken children.

"Run!" She cried, her voice desperate. She was just able to barel them out of the was as white and grey feathers flapped past. She puffed up her fur, snarling angrilly as the feathered assulter circled and swooped down, calling again.

The pups squeeled in fear as their mother was lifted into the air. She screeched in pain as tallons dug into her sides. She bit down hard on the bird's neck. He squacked and pecked at her ear, and she scratched helplessly at the birds stomach.

Blood spattered down onto the shore. The pups mother released the burds neck and reattached to its wing, gripping tight and pulled. The bird screeched as they both plummeted to earth, landing int the water. The mother released and kicked off towards shore as the bird flopped helplessly as it was washed off to sea. The mother paddled feebly, fighting the tide. The pupps bouned into the shallows, squeaking as the began to pull their mothers feeble form to dry land.

They milled around their mother, the pups were still too young to understand what had happened. They huddled up against their mother, trying to keep her soaked form warm.

A human who had been walking along the beech had heard the screeching and had come to see what happened. Two of the pups, Capri and Artemis bolted for cover, but Lilia was rooted to the spot beside her mother. The human bent downa nd picked the two up, and took them with him.

From that point on, the pups grew up together in the forest, caring for each uother. But when Artemis got her foreleg broken from a fight witha gull, he never would leave her alone. Even to this day, they dont know what happened to Lilia or their mother.

Name: Nuclearity
Palui Name Apollo
Palui Gender Male
Relation to Artemis Twin brother
One word you would use to describe him/her standoffish
Brief desc of personality Apollo cares not for anyone else's being. He works alone; always has and will. He doesn't think himself superior but thinks others might muck up whatever it is he's doing. The only other he can truly cooperate with is his sister Artemis.
History/rp response

Separated at childhood by mere choice, Apollo and Artemis have grown up with innocent ignorance towards each other's being until they simply forgot. Gazing up at the same star-filled sky which forever reflects the pelts upon their backs, sometimes their memory could snap back into a picture of a different time, when they wouldn't do without each other.

Their parents lost to the flood of time, they spent every living moment in each other's presence. Pointing out the constellations in the sky on those summer nights when the fireflies themselves would glitter about them like stars, the warm breeze encompassing their slight bodies. Passing time might seem a trifle thing to some but to these two Palui it meant everything. Their sibling love rotted away with each day past; their arguments tore entire chunks out of the happiness they bore together. Insignificant things such as a misplaced star were enough to get them started up. Eventually, the astral heart they've strung together bore away 'til it was but a line, short and petty. Minds set against their companionship, they went their separate ways.

No one can deny, however, the unusual magnetic pull of a boiling bloodline. Feelings bind themselves and make reparations while locked away, as have Apollo and Artemis'. Soon enough, the now-grown Palui found himself setting out on a journey with but a strong sense of direction pulling him towards his long lost sister.

kinda short, sorry ^^;

PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 12:58 pm

Name: Bouncy_Pineapple
Palui Name Samashi
Palui Gender Male
Relation to Artemis Older brother
One word you would use to describe him/her Honest
Brief desc of personality Samashi is quite different from her sister in numerous ways. While she has pride to spare, he is humble in nature. That doesn't mean that he'll grovel under everyone he meets, it just means that he's hesitant about taking charge and is more willing to give things or submit for the benefit of everyone.

Now, the keyword of his personality is honest for a reason. He rarely lies because he believes that every lie will come back to haunt him eventually. And when he makes a promise, he keeps it. He has a habit of making promises rashly, so that ends up with a lot of oaths he has to keep throughout his lifetime. Sometimes though, he will have to break one of them for the greater good, and that's one of the few things that disheartens him.

History/rp response

How long was it since his capture and confinement in this prison? He didn't know. Everything fell apart since that day, that one day that was suppose to perfect...

Now he was stuck with the very human that tortured and forced him into this unfamiliar life of a pet. No matter how tightly the windows were locked up, or the amount of food and pats he was given, he will not submit. For to surrender was to say that the most important promise in his life mattered nothing to him anymore.

That's why he kept fighting this imprisonment. Someday, he'll be free to return to the wild. Be free to follow through on his oath...

Closing his eyes, the Palu let the moonlight bathe him as he feel into an uneasy slumber...

"Samashi! Why won't you leave me alone?"

The two children were on the beach, frolicking in sand and sunlight. At least, Artemis was. Her brother was sneaking around in the shadows, determined to not to let the female see her but failed miserably.

"You know why. I promised mother to keep an eye on you. Especially since she's gone now..."

His sister stuck her tongue out at his response, but with a more playful manner than a malicious one. "You know, you made so many promises, they're probably worth nothing now!"

"That's not true!" He said while scowling. "What's wrong with protecting you anyway? It's dangerous to go alone!"

"True dat." Artemis had a thoughtful expression on her face for once. "But I still don't like having someone stalking me wherever I go!"

"Stalking?" Samashi approached his sibling who began poking a dead crab. "It's not stalking! It's more like..."

He couldn't think of a good answer. Score one for Artemis. His scowl became more prominent as he considered prodding the carcass with her. There was nothing else to do now anyway.

Rustling behind him made him perk up his ears. He whirled around, expecting some deadly predator, but there was nothing like that in sight.

"Did you hear that?" Samashi asked his sister. She stopped what she was doing and glanced around cautiously.

"No. You're being paranoid again." She went back to poking the crab.

Refraining himself from snapping at her, he trotted around the area and tried to find anything suspicious. There was no such thing. He couldn't admit that there was nothing wrong though. Someone or something was lurking around, and it meant harm. He could feel it in his bones...

"Samashi! Help me!"

While he was a good distance away from Artemis, the malviolent being he noticed earlier grabbed the small Palu and stuffed a bag over her. Immediatly, he sprinted towards it with all his might and leaped onto its arm. Claws unsheathed and teeth bared, he bit and scratched at the creature before he realized that it wasn't just a predator.

It was a human. And humans weren't something he could exactly take all by himself.

The man threw Samashi off his arm, but it distracted him enough to drop the bag holding the female Palu. She feel down onto the sand in a daze but with a lot of fighting energy in her.

"Artemis! No!" He shoved her aside before she could pounce on him herself. "Run! I'll take care of this myself! Forget about me!"

"I can't forget about you!" Despite his best efforts, she leaped into the fray and wrapped her fangs around the human's leg. He howled in pain and readied the bag that he dropped earlier.

Before he can capture her, however, Samashi darted in and pushed her away again, right before the sack swooped down on him like a bird catching prey.

Everything went black, but he could still hear Artemis fighting outside. For him. He felt warm and fuzzy over her show of concern, but he wanted her to run, or else she might end up with him.

"GET AWAY! BEFORE HE GETS YOU TOO!" He shouted with all the strength left in him. There was a pause in the turmoil, before his sister replied back.

"Never! I'll get you out of there!" The noise continued.

"NO! I WON'T HAVE YOU CAPTURED BECAUSE OF ME! JUST LEAVE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!"

He couldn't here any answer now, either because she finally left or the man was fleeing from his vicious attacker. But his fate was settled. He's not a wild Palu anymore. And his sister still was. They were seperated, probably for a long time, but not forever.

Even now, Samashi can gurantee that. Because he made a promise to himself, the first time he ever did, to return back to Artemis so he could continue protecting her. And he'll do everything it takes to keep it.

Sorry for the long entry. <<>>;

Name: .angelic.demonic.
Palui Name: Addison
Palui Gender: Female
Relation to Artemis: Twin sister
One word you would use to describe him/her: Compassionate
Brief desc of personality: Addison is very smart. She loves to explore. She is very perceptive, and she pays attention to details. She doesn't have a lot of experience, though. This causes her to ask many questions and sometimes become annoying and a nuisance to others.
History/rp response: A mother looked down upon her two newborn daughters stricken with greif. She knew that she could only keep one, for the other was terribly sick. She didn't think it would survive the night, so the only thing to do was to leave it. She glanced over at their father, who was too upset to say goodbye. The mother was crying silently. There was nothing she could do. It was time for them to leave. She looked at them both together for what she thought would be the last time. The mother bent over and kissed the sick newborn on the head, "I'm so sorry," she said quietly. She then picked up the other twin, and turned to leave. The baby girl in her arms began to whimper softly from being separated from her twin. "Addison," she whispered softly, "everything will be okay."

A few years later...

Addison had grown up with her mother and father in their home in the woods. She had grown up knowing that she had had a twin that had died shortly after they were born, not knowing that her parents hadn't actually seen her twin dead. She had been very sad when she first found out, but she was young and got over it. Addison didn't really have any friends, even though other families lived near them. It was almost time for her to leave her home to start her own life.
On this day, Addison had decided she would go exploring. Her mother had told her that she didn't have to do any chores in the house. She had spent a good few hours moseying around in the woods, when she heard a mysterious sound. It sounded a lot like snoring to her. Oh my, she thought, that sounds an awful lot like my dad when he's sleeping. Addison decided she would follow the noise until it led her to the source. She was finally led to a clearing in the woods, and in the middle of the clearing was another one of her. Addison had to blink a few times before she could believe what she was seeing. This new creature looked almost exactly like her. Sure, the markings were different, but they were almost exactly the same. It can't be, she thought, my twin sister is dead. Addison got out of her state of shock and slowly made her way towards the snoring Palui. It was at this exact moment that the sleeping Pauli began to stir. The Pauli opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. She spotted Addison and immediately became defensive. This new Pauli looked an awful lot like her. Why was that? She had always wondered what had happened to her family, why they had left her, and if she could possibly have a sibling out there somewhere.
"Who are you?" she questioned.
"Well, I'm Addison. Who are you?" Addison replied, completely unaware of the situation she could get herself into, but in awe of what she thought was her twin sister.
"My name is Artemis," she said, relaxing a little.
"Artemis, may I ask why you are sleeping here, in this clearing?" Addison asked.
"I don't have a home. My parents left me after I was born..." Artemis stated. She didn't really like talking about it much. She had been found by other animals that had nursed her back to health and raised her until she was old enough to be on her own, then she had left them in search of her family. The search was unsuccessful, and so, Artemis had given up trying.
"Oh. You know, Artemis, we look quite similar," Addison said, stating the obvious, and hoping to get a chance to invite her back to her home.
At that exact moment, Artemis' stomach growled. She hadn't eaten in quite some time.
"I see that you're hungry. Artemis, you must come home with me to get some food," Addison offered, "I insist."
"I suppose I could do with something to eat. I can't stay for very long, though," Artemis said.
"Follow me," Addison waved her paw towards where she had come from and began her walk home. Artemis looked around and followed after Addison. It wasn't very long before Addison had found her way home, even though she hadn't been paying attention to where she was going. "I'm home," she shouted once they had arrived, "and I have a visitor." Addison's mom came wandering out of the house to greet them when her eyes landed on Artemis and she immediately stopped, completely shocked at what she was seeing. She had never thought that she would ever see her other daughter again, and yet here Aretmis was standing before her. Tears began streaming down her face and she yelled for the girls' father to come and see this.

A few months later...

It hadn't taken long for Artemis to become a part of their family and realize that she belonged with them. Addison and Artemis had decided to make themselves a home together near their parents. They had become the best of friends, and had begun catching up on the years they had missed together.

Name: Lonewolf_Eyes
Palui Name Mahina - Means Moon
Palui Gender Female
Relation to Artemis Twin Sister
One word you would use to describe him/her Reliable
Brief desc of personality If Mahina says she's going to be there, she's there. She does what she says she'll do, making her a very reliable Palu to depend on. Need a shoulder to cry on too? Some one to rant at? Mahina's there to offer it to them.
Mahina is shy, quiet around others but always polite. Her favorite things include fruit (mango, mm!), exploring and discovering new things, and helping others to the bst of her ability. This young palu's ultimate favorite thing is watch the moon rise, and walk beneath it's brightness on a cooling beach.

Her least favorite things are spiders, heat, and others who have bad attitudes.
History/rp response

There was father again tonight, sitting on the beach alone staring at the pale orb that hung high in the sky. His eyes swam with sorrow and secrets, as he whispered something in a hushed town. Mahina sat watching from the treeline, watching her father and let out a soft quiet sigh. Her muscles quickly tensed and the relaxed as her father called out to her, playfully scolding her. Slowly, the dark-furred Palu made her way over to the male sitting on the beach, curling next to him and directing golden orbs up toward the sky. " My dear Mahina. Your mother watches down on us from the twinkling lights of the night sky. As happy as I am that her suffering is over...I miss her so so much.." The younger female Palu nodded quietly, adding " And...sister too...right?" Mahina could faintly remember her sister, black and purple with gold markings like herself, but her memory of Artemis was hazy. It had been so long since the 4 of them had been together. A tragic accident had driven them apart, and a flying palu had told Papa of their mother's death and no sign of her twin. Her father had become a changed Palu since then, very sad constantly but trying to give his remaining daughter the best life he could offer.
Mahina was suprised when her father shook his head slowly, and very slightly. " I miss Artemis, yes. But she isn't up there with your mother. One day you will see, Mahina, a reflection of yourself without the use of water, or human objects. One day you will find your twin."
He escorted Mahina back to her bed, cuddling her deeply. It would be the last time Mahina ever saw her father, but believed in his words that her sister was out there. With a heavy broken heart, Mahina set out immediately to find her reflection and moon sister.

Name: Farcical
Palui Name Arella
Palui Gender Female
Relation to Artemis Twin Sisters
One word you would use to describe him/her Unsure
Brief desc of personality Arella is overshadowed by her sister. With Artemis being strong and brave, Arella is weak and cowardly. She thinks before she acts and is unwilling to take chances.
History/rp response Arella was following Artemis through the dark forests of Palu Island. She was growing tired, in the distance, she could see cliffs by the ocean bathed in the glow of the setting sun. They had been walking all day. The small palui didn't know where they were going or the reason. "Artemis," Arella rasped, he throat dry. "Artemis," she repeated louder. "Where are we going?" She continued, knowing that she had her twin's attention.
Artemis turned around at this point. "To find a new cave," she answered simply. She hadn't wanted to tell her fragile sister about the strange smells in their old cave.
"Why?" Arella asked stupidly, speeding up to walk next to Artemis.
"Oh, you know. Change of scenery." The elder replied matter of factly. "Don't worry," she soothed licking the younger's forehead.
They continued on into the night, soon they arrived at the cliffs. Arella looking pessimistic at the height that she would have to climb. Sighing, she followed Artemis up the sheer cliff face, thinking of a nice warm nest of leaves and such to sleep on.

RaiMidori

PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 5:52 pm

Name: RaiMidori
Palui Name Adrastos
Palui Gender Male
Relation to Artemis Half-brother
One word you would use to describe him/her Tender
Brief desc of personality Being brought up as his mother’s messenger angel since he was born, he was always seen as a king, a symbol of victory. Adrastos has learned to live for the sake of others and not for himself, almost to extreme levels that have caused him to lose sense of his own existence. He doesn’t know what he wants, what he knows, only that he must please those around him. Recently, upon discovering by accident that he actually had a half sister, he has begun to yearn to protect her, to meet her, and has developed a warm personality because of it.
History/rp response

When he was born, he wasn’t welcomed.

Rather, he was more of a nobody, something expendable and to be gotten rid of right away. He was a symbol of the mistakes his father had made, the time he had let himself slip for one other woman. The lady that was his mother, the one that had enticed his father enough to leave his already-established mate, was a stranger to him; she had passed away shortly after giving birth. There was only one thing he had ever found out about her.

She loved trilliums.

And so, when they finally looked at him without skepticism or rancour in their eyes, they were clear-headed enough to notice the trillium that graced the side of his forehead like, quite literally, a symbol from heaven. He was the only child she had bore, the one that took her life, but in that one second he was the object of all their affections. Surely, this child was one to be her messenger, the one to take her place on the planet. He was a king, they whispered. He was a king, a king, a king.

And so they name him Adrastos.

Of course, being a king, they took him away. Because kingship was no longer about valiance, chivalry, or grace. It was about high standards and being hidden from life, because they were scared, so scared, that something would harm him. If he had understood at that time, if they had told him what they were doing, he would have protested vehemently, but he didn’t understand, not at all.

And the wheels of fate began to turn.

Slowly, but surely, it began to wear him down.

They worshipped him, and he didn’t understand. They called him by his mother’s name, sometimes. And he always, always had to be perfect. Even at that time, he knew he could make no mistakes, had to keep up this façade and always impress. And so he began to wear thin.

Years passed. It was always the same, day after day, like a sunshineless spring. Eventually, he realized that he didn’t know himself as anything but Adrastos, their king, with nothing but his body to call his own. Someone was sad about that, and maybe it was him- that person was too far away for him to know.

The days wore on.

And he would find himself getting dreams of a body sleeping next to him, something that looked roughly the same color- purple, for royalty and mourning- and curled up the same way. It was warm, ever so warm, but when he reached over to wake it up it would be morning, and the light would pierce his eyelids and he would have to greet the day, greet the horror, greet the sun that he wished would shine on his forlorn patch of life.

That is, until he overheard them speaking.

They were talking of another, of a half-sister, and immediately, that day, he knew. He would have to find her, talk to her, protect her. He would have to love her. And maybe, just maybe, she would love him, too.

Not for Adrastos, the king, but for Adrastos, the Palui, someone who was, in many ways, so much more than that.

He never figured out if he was looking for her to protect her or save himself, and maybe it was a combination of both. But by the time he felt the cold air hit his pelt, he had no more time to think, for he was already searching.

One second into the game, he already knew: One day he would find her.

And a king’s bet was never wrong.

Name: wolfpuppies
Palui Name:Innuk
Palui Gender: female
Relation to Artemis" cousin
One word you would use to describe him/her: Benevolent
Brief desc of personality: Innuk is very kind and intelligent. She has always been gentle natured, which is good and bad. She hates violence and always tries to find ways to make peace. She has always been very intelligent, able to figure out things that others her age wouldn’t understand. She is very helpful as well. She is very sleek and agile. She has slightly smaller paws and slightly different fur texture. She looks up to her cousin, Artemis. She is an only child, but she handles it well.
History/rp response:
A small figure rose to its paws as the light grew outside. The creature walked quietly out of the den and into the warm sunlight. The creature was a female Palui. She had beautiful colorations on her fur, the sun making her fur glow in the faint but growing light.
Artemis promised to take me to the waterfall today! The female, Innuk, thought excitedly. She went into the forest. Stopping near her favorite tree Innuk looked around. I wonder when Artemis is going to come. She thought. At that same instance, her stomach rumbled. Jumping up onto a root, Innuk scanned the surrounding area. She didn’t see her favorite cousin anywhere, so she decided that she could grab a bite to eat. Innuk trotted to a group of bushes that had delicious looking berries. Some time passed as Innuk picked some berries and placed them on a leaf.

“Innuk!” A voice called nearby.

Innuk’s head jolted up. Her bushy tail wagged with delight. She folded a leaf around her bundle of berries quickly, before racing back to her tree. Soon a Palui came into sight, one that looked almost exactly like her. “Artemis!” She shouted with delight around the leaf bundle she held in her jaws.

The Palui looked up worry in her eyes, and her eyes soon filled with relief and joy. “You’re alright.” She said quietly. “I thought something took you away, since your scent was here, but you weren’t.”

“Nope, I got us berries so we can eat before we go. I’m so glad I can still see you Artemis.” Innuk smiled after she put her bundle down. The leaf unfolded, revealing large, plump purple and pink berries.

“Thank you and me too.” Artemis playfully bat her paw at her cousin. “Thanks for not telling our family about me.”

“Anything for you. I really don’t understand why you don’t wanna live with us.” Innuk snorted and jumped on Artemis.

“I told you, it was my choice and I’m sticking to it.” Artemis pushed her cousin off of her. “So when do you want to go to the waterfall?”

“After we eat these berries, we can go.” Innuk jumped to her feet and trotted back to the berries she’d gathered. “I snuck a few and they taste ssssssooooo good.”

Artemis laughed a bit before walking over to Innuk and laying down. She grabbed a berry bundle and began eating them. “You’re right. These are really good.” She licked her lips.

“Told ya.” Innuk smiled. She took a large bite out of the berries and burped when she finished them. “’Scuse me.” She laughed.

The two females talked and laughed while they ate the berries. Soon they finished and they slowly rose to their paws. Both trekked through the forest in silence. The sun had risen and the adult Palui would be up and wandering around, who knows how close. They had gone through this process once a month for quite a while now, ever since Artemis left the family to live on her own.

“Here we are.” Artemis murmured before pushing her way through a bush.

Innuk followed excitedly. She had never been to the waterfall before and coming with Artemis was all the better. “Omigosh! It’s so pretty!” She gasped when the waterfall came into view. She raced to Artemis’s side and watched the small rainbows form as the sun hit the spraying water. “Thank you so much for bringing me here!” She bounced around.

“Welcome. Be careful though. I can’t have you falling in the water.” Artemis laughed at Innuk’s excitement.

Innuk nodded obediently and stopped bouncing around. “Can we go closer?”

“I don’t know…..”

“Please?” Innuk’s eyes were pleading and innocent.

“Fine.” Artemis sighed. She always fell for those cute eyes of Innuk's. She led her cousin closer to the waterfall. Their fur began to become wet from the spray of the falls. “Don’t go near the edge.”

“I won’t.” Innuk smiled. She pranced around the moist grass, happy. She then turned and charged at Artemis, ears flat and tail waving.

Artemis braced herself and the two young Palui tussled and romped with each other.

“Innuk!” A voice called from within the forest.

“Aww.” Innuk sighed, getting off of her cousin. “I wish I could stay out longer.” She pouted.

“You’d have to live with me to do that.” Artemis chuckled.

“Really?” Innuk looked up, excitement filling her eyes. “I can?”
“Wha?” Artemis was taken aback by her cousin’s reaction. She didn’t really mean it, but now that it had come out she couldn’t crush Innuk’s hopes like that. “I guess….you could stay with me….” She sighed.

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Innuk tackled Artemis once again, nuzzling her cheek.

“But go back for now and sneak out when the moon hits the top of the sky. I’ll wait by the tree for you.” Artemis said sternly.

“Ok!” Innuk bounced off of Artemis. “I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“Alright.” Artemis suppressed a sigh. She stood up and shook her fur.

“Innuk!” The voice called again, worry in its tone.

Innuk looked back at Artemis, who nodded, and took off back into the forest. The day seemed to finish much more slowly to Innuk, then again she was eager for night to come. She fell asleep early, hoping time would pass better and dreamed peacefully. Innuk awoke with a yawn and peered outside the den. The moon was almost all the way up into the sky.
She jumped up quietly and walked out of the den. She peered over her shoulders, looking at her resting family. I’ll miss you all. I love you. She thought before she ran into the forest towards the huge tree. Upon her arrival, Artemis rose to her paws and wagged her tail a bit.

“I guess you couldn’t wait any longer.” She laughed once, half-smiling.
“Nope.” Innuk laughed also.

The two walked through the forest silently. They trekked over hills and through a valley. The sun had risen and soon was high in the sky.

***********************************************************************************

“INNUK! Get your lazy butt up!” A paw prodded the she-Palui in the side.

“What?” Innuk complained. She was full grown. “I was having a wonderful dream.”

“What about?” Artemis, also fully grown, asked curiously.

“When you took me to the waterfall then took me in.” Innuk smiled. I wonder if our family ever stopped searching and worrying about us. She thought as she got to her paws.

“That was a wonderful dream. Now let’s get going. We’re gonna miss those humans’ fireworks.” Artemis smiled.

The cousins hurried to a hill top and watched in silent awe as the humans set off their fireworks.

Name: DareDelvil
Palui Name: Diana (the Roman moon goddess)
Palui Gender: Female
Relation to Artemis: Litter-mate (sister)
One word you would use to describe him/her: Sheltered
Brief desc of personality: Diana has spent her life inside looking out. A pampered, beloved pet Palui, she is incredibly tame and implicitly trusts any human that does not obviously wish to harm her. However, she has always suffered from strange bouts of longing for more than her peaceful existence - whenever she goes out into the world at her owner's side, no matter how much she loves her she sometimes wants to slip her leash and run away. Just to see what's out there, of course. Until now, the fear that she might not be able to find her way home has always won out. Aside from this, she adores being around plants, particularly fruit trees and sweet-smelling flowers, and gets on well with other Palui - particularly those that have had Adventures. She tends to idolise those who lead more exciting lives than she does, and will quite happily listen to their tales for hours with rapt, starry-eyed attention.
History/rp response:

"Once upon a time...why do all English stories begin with that?"

Meredith looked up from her cup of cocoa. "They don't all, pet," she answered in a murmur. "Carry on. Questions afterwards."

Melanie bit her lip for a moment, studying the page, and then continued to read. "Once upon a time, there were two little Palui bundles in a forest. One was on the right side of a tree, and one was on the left. Their parents had hidden them there to protect them from pr...pre-da-tors...predators?...while they were out sear-ching for food. Oh! 's gibt Bilder...there are pictures...wow, the bundles are so beautiful!"

"The pictures are lovely, aren't they?" Meredith said with a smile. "Actually, they were made before the story was written. The writer based the story on the pictures. Go on, carry - Symphonie, hör auf!"

"Palu!"

"No, you've had your dinner. No more apples for you." She detached the lion-tailed Palui from her trouser leg and shooed her towards the back garden. "Raus. Go play."

"Paluuuuuu..."

Despite her whining Symphonie gave in and left, and Melanie continued reading. "The parents thought that their pre-cious bundles would be safe in the shade of the tree - the shade?"

"The shadow."

"Ah, thank you - in the shade of the tree. But they were mis-ta-ken...they were wrong, oh, okay... A kind man found the tree, and saw what was under it. "Oh," said he to himself, "a mother Palui must have a-ban-doned her child. That is very sad. If nobody looks after it, the baby will die." So he picked up the bundle on the left side of the tree and took it away with him. He did not see the bundle on the right. ...He didn't see the other bundle? So the babies were taken away from each other!"

Meredith nodded. "They were separated."

"How sad! ...Oh, I must carry on. Um." Melanie searched for her place and continued. "...The kind man gave the bundle to a kind woman who lived all alone on the island and cared for plants. So the Palui inside came out and grew up, happy and cared for, never knowing that she had once been inside the bundle on the left side of the tree, never knowing that there had been a bundle on the right."

"Good."

Melanie grinned at the soft word of praise, and kept reading. "The kind woman called the little Palui Diana, and so that was her name. Diana had beautiful soft dark fur, with purple and gold markings. You can see a picture of her on the next page - oh, there it is. ...She liked to sit and look out of the window of the kind woman's house, watching the world outside and wondering what it would be like to live in it. She was not unhappy in the house, but she was a...a cu-ri-ous cre-a-ture..."

"Creature."

"...cree-ture...and could not help wondering all the same. One day, the kind woman took Diana out to the market with her to buy food and seeds. Diana enjoyed going to the market. It was full of interesting sights and sounds and smells that she never found at home, and while the kind woman was buying what she needed Diana was happy to look around and enjoy. They went home the pretty way, just as they always did, past a steep bank with trees growing on it. And then, as they were walking past the last few trees, Diana saw something that made her disbelieve her eyes. It was another Palui, another female, and it had dark fur and purple and gold markings. It looked almost exactly like her. ...Oh, another picture!"

"Of the two Palui? Yes, I remember. Can the other Palui see Diana?"

"No, she is looking the other way - oh, goodness, was she the other..."

Meredith smiled. "Read on."

"...Diana did not know what this meant. She did not know that she had once been inside the bundle on the left side of the tree. Nor did she know that the Palui she saw had been inside the bundle on the right. All she knew was that there was a Palui living out here in the big wide world, and it looked like her. She turned to the kind woman and said to her, "Look! Quick, kind woman, you must see! There is a Palui among the trees who looks just like me!" But all the kind woman heard was "palu palu", and she did not understand. "What is it, Diana?" she asked. Diana pointed towards the bank with her paw, and then the kind woman looked. But by the time she looked...the other Palui had gone." Melanie swallowed visibly. "...The kind woman thought that there was danger on the path, and so she did not walk back from the market that way again. And every day, Diana sat by the window, looking out at the world, wondering what sort of life that other Palui might be leading - wondering about the road she had not taken."

Silence reigned for some moments. Then, finishing her cocoa, Meredith set down her cup. "Do you think the writer is really just telling a story about a Palui?"

Melanie shook her head slowly. "No. You are right - when people want to tell stories about people, they tell them about animals instead. People do things like this, like Diana did. They want things but they are too scared to take them. And they think about What If. Palui probably don't actually do that."

"Exactly. ...You know, I once heard it told like this - when something matters to us, we tie a string from it to our hearts. Not a real string, just...something like a string. Sometimes we don't even realise we've done it. Even little babies tie strings, in a simple baby way. And when we think about the something that matters to us and it's not there, it pulls on the string. And we feel sad, and maybe wonder where it is. But sometimes...sometimes that pull is so strong that it makes us want to do stupid things. Like running away. Like charging off into a big strange world we don't understand. Like searching for someone we've never met, and we know nothing about, and whose life has...really, if we're sensible, nothing to do with our own. Society tells us we should be steady, and not fling ourselves into the path of unknown dangers in search of what might be an empty dream. But...if we don't do that, we're like that little Palui. Like little Diana at her window, looking out at a world she's not quite brave enough to make her own." Belatedly, Meredith noticed that her young pupil looked somewhat downcast. "...What's the matter?"

"You didn't say it was going to be a sad story," Melanie mumbled, scuffing her shoe against the floor.

Meredith watched her calmly, and said nothing about the small dirty mark she left on the floorboards. "Is it a sad story?"

"Well...it is slightly. Diana never met her sister, no? She never knew where she was really from, and she never learned to know her family."

"Now, did it say she never met her sister?" Meredith said with a smile. "Maybe she did. Maybe she will. The story isn't a sad story, it's just not a finished story. ...A wise woman once told me that a sad story is just a happy story you haven't got to the end of yet. I think that some day Diana will be brave enough to go and find out where she came from - or maybe her sister will find her, and Lady Luck will just drop it all into her little furry lap. Either way, I think there's a happy ending for her. Lots of happy endings. ...I think everyone gets happy endings."

Melanie brightened. "Even us? You and me?"

"You and I," Meredith corrected automatically.

"Yes, that."

"Yes, even us." Then Meredith remembered what day it was, and tried very hard not to grin. "...Maybe especially us."

Melanie giggled. "I like that. Especially us."

"I do too," said Meredith, rising from her chair. "Come on - I'd better get you home. Your dinner will be ready soon, and I have to go to the docks after I drop you off. Angie, Sym, Maxi, walkies!"

"Why?" Melanie asked, taking her coat from the back of a chair and heading for the front door. "Will you meet somebody there?"

Reaching down to stroke Symphonie and Max, who had both bounded indoors at the mention of walkies, Meredith decided that Angharad was probably still curled up somewhere sleeping off that double portion of dinner she'd run off with. Cheeky little devil. "As a matter of fact, yes."

Melanie's eyes lit up with glee. "How exciting! Who will you meet?"

"Someone I tied a string to long ago," said Meredith, finally letting the grin show. "Let's call her...a traveller on the road not taken."

"What's her name?"

"...Anna."

They left, closing the front door behind them.

Elsewhere, tucked away in a hidden corner of the cabin, Angharad Green-Eyes watched over her sleeping guest: a dark Palui with a dusting of purple and gold. She looked again at the young female's peaceful face, at the placing of all those beautiful golden markings down just one side of her body, and finally decided upon a name for her.

"Dream on, little Left-Side," she murmured, settling down beside her new friend. "I'll be here for you when you wake up."

((Sorry for the extra post - I didn't want to edit my entry! The sentence towards the end should read "dark-coated Palui", not "dark Palui". I realised this could be misconstrued only after I'd posted. XD))

Name: Shikamaru Silyvant
Palui Name Damian (Tame, Subdue)
Palui Gender Male
Relation to Artemis Half - brother
One word you would use to describe him/her Demanding
Brief desc of personality Damian is fairly straight forward, rarely taking no for an answer and always willing to shove his ideals down someone's throat. When he does something he usually throws himself completely into the task, and is more than willing to see it through to end, even if he is the only one left to finish it. Despite all this Damien is loyal and all too trusting to a fault, thus often trusting people and defending them after only a few meetings.
History/rp response Damien and Artemis hailed from different litters but the same palui had sired them. The same dark palui with the dusty gold and purple spottings. Damien's litter was the first born by merely a few hours, and even this the proud new mothers nor their kits knew not of. And so both litters grew up without the slightest bit of knowledge of the other's existence...until their father waltzed back into their lives and demanded that the litters meet. That it would be good for them in the long run. The mothers were furious, the kits were curious and the meeting was arranged. Of course things of this nature never fully sort themselves out, and as such by the time the kits met each other, they already harbored mixed feelings towards their siblings.

Mixed feelings or no, it is in a kit's nature to play and play both litters did while their parents bickered and fought the day and the night away. Of all the kits and their dusty pelts and markings, none of them stood out as being so closely related as Damien and Artemis. Of course when the kits tried to point this out, their parents could care less. So the kits devised a plan. A devious little plan to stop their parents from fighting. They ran away. Six kits, split into three pairs, they ran off in different directions.

Their parents of course fell for the bait, the fighting stopping in an instant as the kits were found to be missing and night began falling fast. So in truce they set off to find their wayward children. Since then the three adults decided that it was best to put aside their disputes and simply let the kits grow up together. And if when the time came the kits so desired to wander off to the safety of the human village or remain wild, that choice would be theirs and theirs alone.

Name: poke mattix
Palui Name Iris
Palui Gender Female
Relation to Artemis younger sister
One word you would use to describe him/her Innocent
Brief desc of personality Iris is quite childlike in many ways. She tends to rely on her sister to bail her out of tough situations, then three seconds later she'll be off, trying to find some new form of mischief.
History/rp response

Iris and her sister's childhood was tough, but also enjoyable. They were born to a wild Palui mother who took care of them by her lonesome. Sometimes she was only able to bring food back for one, so Artemis was always the one to give Iris her share.
There was also the constant threat of the Ingi, the large seabirds that shared their territory. This resulted in many near-misses on the Palui's part, and many more horror stories.
Appart from that, the land had many secrets to share, so the two spent their time exploring, trying to discover as much as they could.

Invisible Dabbler

Name: xo -- k a i r i
Palui Name Ariel
Palui Gender Female
Relation to Artemis Twin Sister
One word you would use to describe him/her Inquisitive
Brief desc of personality Ariel is a spirited, playful Palu who only wants to enjoy life, and live it to the fullest. She'll always be the first one to suggest a game, and the first to suggest to be 'it'. Somewhat guillible, she can be a little naive at times, but always means best and will never purposefully offend anyone.
History/rp response

"Hey Artemis!" called the young palu cub, as she soared through the air, landing hard on top of her sister, sending the two rolling for a few moments before they stopped, having collided with a boulder. "Tag!"

"Owwwwww" moaned the second cub, twin sister to the first. Ariel had a gleeful, boastful grin on her face as she scrambled to her feet, dashing a 'safe' distance away so her sister couldn't re-tag her without giving an indication that she was going to run. That was, she'd be able to get a head start.

"That hurt, Ariel," grumbled Artemis, now in a sulk as she turned, tail high in the air as she indignantly began walking off, bored by her sister's games. Ariel, not wanting to be left by herself, squeaked, racing after her sister, dirt flying from under her feet. Most wouldn't think the two were twins - their colourings were pretty much the same, yes, but their markings were slightly different. However, both had come from the same litter, and been born within seconds of each other. Technically, Ariel was the younger sister, but they'd been dubbed as twins, and as twins they'd remained.

Ariel was about to say something, even going as far as to open her mouth, before both froze as a crunching sound was heard. It sounded like footsteps, but nothing like those of a palu - they were too loud. Ears pinned back agaisnt her head, Artemis began to shuffle backwards, away from the sound, but Ariel took a step forwards, curious. What was it? She found out a few moments later, when a towering human stepped out of the vegetation, eyes trained on the small cub in front of him. Ariel squeaked once more, making to turn and run in the same direction as her sister, but she was too slow, large, warm hands curling around her and lifting her from the ground before she had a chance. Mewing both in surprise and fear, she scraped lightly at the human's hands, wanting to be let free.

"Artemis!" called the twin, yellow-eyes focused on her sister, who was frozen to the spot, watching the scene unfold before her. Ariel mewed again - Artemis had to save her! Her twin sister, who was better at everything, had to save her!

So imagine the cub's disappointment when her sister's mouth formed the words 'I'm Sorry', before she turned and ran off into the bushes, just before the human's second hand swooped down in an attempt to snatch her too. Ariel felt tears rise in her eyes as she began mewing continuously - where had her sister gone? Where were there parents? Why did this human have her? Was she going to die!?

Ariel awoke with a gasp, beads of sweat falling down her forehead. Wide eyes slowly returned to their normal size as she surveyed the house she was situated in, and snuggled a little further into her bed. Another dream again. As far as she knew, she didn't have a sister. She couldn't remember one. But then again, she couldn't really remember anything before she'd arrived here, at her home. Her humans treated her well, and the young boy who's pet she was adored her, spoiling her with all sorts of treats.

Slowly lowering her head back into her paws, eyelids closing, Ariel allowed a smile to grace her lips. It was just a dream - that was all.
