User Image Ah night, it was one of his favorite times, actually it was his only favorite time of the day. Stepped away from his sleeping brother, leaving the kind hearted stallion to sleep away the night, he often cursed his brother for leaving the night to live during the day at times. But he could never say it to his face, if anything he still loved his brother. Advancing away from their sheltered home, Nikolas fell into his normal routine. Darting through the trees like a ghost, though his white coat often picked up the small hints of light from the moon that hung low over head. Tonight was going to be just like all the rest he assumed. Nothing interesting was going to happen... Right?

Breaking through the trees and out into the open, the full light of the moon gazed down and shown against his ghostly white coat. His mantel of black hair fell over his neck and flank. Around his neck his black arrowhead necklace lacked the gleam as he never took the time to really care for it. Black soulless eyes glanced around the clearing before the stallion started walking, his ears ever listening to his surroundings. He wondered what to stalk this night, everything the nights before was boring, he needed something... New...

It has been sometime since her last encounter. And that last meeting was with her daughter, Zeda. It had ended rather oddly and way different from what she imagined. Awnaety found herself laying on the soft grass out in the open fields. One side was the forest, the other was where the hight mountains rose up above. They were far off in the distance but made a lovely scene in day or night. The stars were not to be seen just yet, Awnae did not care if they appeared or not. Wishes were pathetic and for pathetic hopeless soquilis. Snorthing, the dark mare, her colors almost blending in with the darkness of the night, looked down and snorted. Watched the air blown out from her nostrils, it was a chilly night and the seasons were obiviously changing. Her heart always unsettled nowadays. She had been wandering aimlessly around for almost weeks, and still nothing could help her feel more calm like she could easily once before. How somethings can change so quickly within a blink of an eye. Like how quickly she became friends with her daughter. Awnae guessed she needed a mare to talk to, someone to turn to and Zeda was the eligible one around. That does not mean Awnaety was using her, Zeda was actually her friend. No longer a daughter. However, she rarely saw her, and Awnaety felt lonely and anger once more.

Was her life not worthy to obtain the love and caring feelings of one? Awnaety snorted again, watching the air like a puff of smoke rising from the end of a cigarette. Her heart felt the weight slowly adding up and anger rising. At the same time depression was getting to her. Eyes rather dull, unlike her old fiery self. Awnaety felt old, old and useless sometimes. Refusing to accept this weakness, her watery eyes shot up.Gave a silent curse to god, if there were one. The mare stood up and continued to stare up with raging anger within her. Then, a foreign but lively scent caught her nose. Awnaety cranked her head left to right searching for the source. It was not a coat to miss. Like a frieshly lit candle, the coat of this one shone brightly in darkness. Awnaety frowned but stared at whoever it was. It was too far away to tell the gender. She did not move, body solid. Watching the rather bright one move around. Her legs stayed stiff as she stood there in the darkness.

Nikolas stopped for a moment to let the coolness of the night caress his body like a blanket. Shaking out his black mane he looked about the open. Well it seemed less hen likely there would be something here, but maybe. Something had caught his eye, well from the corner at the very least. Turning his head, eyes squinting a bit, the scent of another caught his nose. Well this would be divine, another of his own kind, if stallion he would have loads of fun with it. If Female... He hadn't an idea, but he was sure he could think of something. Turning in the direction of the motion that he had seen, he started walking again.

His coat shining like a beacon against the dark background of the night. He walked steadily closer to the spot where Awnaety was standing frozen in her place. Though he hadn't caught sight of her against the blackness, the scent of her was drawing him closer until he could see the outline of another of his kind. Stopping a fair distance from the figure he waited for it to make the first move, though from this closer look, he could see that it was female and a fairly dark colored one too. But all the same he remained silent, letting just the music of the night be the only sounds.

The stallion arrived closer to her. She can now determine the gender. The side she dispises and Awnae turned her head while giving a look of disgust. What luck, she was secretly hoping to find another female she could somehow check her situation with, but she ran into the wrong side of the two sex. Awnaety turned back to the stallion, and scanned him with dull eyes, emotionless expression. She was not going to say anything if he does not. She wasn not the type to start conversations, onless she felt like she wanted trouble. As of right now, Awnae did not want trouble, but a stallion is something she can not stand right now. However, she did not move from her stiff pose, her eyes held onto his face. Glowing so brightly at her, light in darkness. Was this a sign for hope? Awnaety looked up at the gods, this was what they send her when she made a mental note to them? A stallion, one to only remind her of more pain. At least this stallion did not look anything like her old mate, or else she would've trampled him over. Her eyes still held on him, while she moved her tail from side to side. Her heart thumped slowly and steadily in her ears.

More darkness washed over them as time ticked on. She got darker but somewhat he got lighter. Weird. His coat really did reflect the light of the moon. She breathed out slowly, watching her breath fade off slowly, perhaps this pain will fade off slowly somehow. For now, it was rather difficult seeing this stallion. For days, she had been careful not to look at any love related things and specially kept her distance from stallions. Clearly this one approached her because he had noticed her. Awnaety still kept her mouth clamped shut, lifting her head high and looked at him with a kind of glare. Wasnt an obivious one, but those who observe very well, might be able to notice. In this darkness, could he even see her? Her scent was flowing around that was no doubt. Most likely what lead him to her, seeing that he didnt seem to come closer to where she was standing, he must not see her very well.

Not a sound or a peep came from the one before him. Though he could tell from the movements from her that she wasn't pleased with his appearance. Well, that was just too bad, he was there and apparently he really wasn't intending on leaving. His own eyes narrowed slightly as his own head raised a bit as he watched her, he over looked the glare that came his direction, he had gotten many within his life time and well.. This one wasn't that much different then all the rest. Take things like a grain of sand, he had always told his brother and nothing would bother you, though his brother still let things get to him.

"Kind of cold to be out alone, ain't it?" he asked, his voice a bit course giving the feel that he wasn't exactly a 'short shelled' soquili.

Shifting his footing some, his black tail flicked over his rose branded flank. Nikolas let his ears sit forward on his head to listen for an answer. Though from how she was holding herself, he found himself thinking that it wouldn't be a very 'happy' reply. He didn't really know much of the mare gender, besides the filly that had come to live with them. But she was a fledgeling, nothing more, someone whom they took in to teach their own ways of life. This mare was a mystery to him and he was going to have fun solving this mystery.

Giving it a few minutes, she was hpping he'd turn away and leave. His voice came along with the breeze that brushed against her sides and swam around her curves. Awnaety erased the glare and looked at him with no emotion once again. "I'm rather warm, and perhaps I like to be alone," came a rather low voice. She wasnt trying to sound like a stallion, but she was rather unhappy to see him. The glare in her eyes returned, and Awnaety stepped closer to scan the stallion more. Probably waltsing around breaking mares' heart. Wasnt he? Awnaety stepped back after a few short seconds, and cranked her head to the forest behind him. She watched the trees sway in the night and as the wind brushed past them. She was not any socialable soquili, so bringing up topics was not something she could and would do.

The dark mare let her eyes glide back to him. She refused to talk to him, only if he says something, then she will reply. Simplest as she can. She did not know this stallion and she was sure she didnt want to either. All males are the same arent they. Always so...Awnaety snorted and watched a firefly buzz by her, lonely as it was. She could feel herself being lonely, but she often denied it and gave a rather strong appearance. Awnaety held her muzzle high, and didnt care how she looked to this one. Mouth shut once again. He might as well leave now. That was what she was aiming and hoping for. Deep inside she knew she would like anyone to be around, just so she could somewhat heal...but a stallion to help he heal. No, she would not step that low and crawl to the other gender for help. The same gender who bruised her heart.

His head cocked to one side as she spoke of liking the feeling of being alone. Well, that struck him as a bit odd, from what he understood of most of his kind they preferred to be in groups to share the warmth and shelter even in the harshest of climates. Yet this one wanted to be alone, well fine for her until something came alone. Something worse then even him and he thought himself as one of the lowest creatures around, no there were ones lower. Ones he dared not even really think about at times like this.

"I see." Was all he uttered for now in an uncaring manner. "And what hopes do you have of not meeting something that would simply love to tear the flesh from your bones?"

Eyes giving a sort of 'tired' expression, this wasn't exactly what he would consider fun, this one was a hard nut to crack. Standing there all stiff like she were being looked down upon by one of the meanest of creatures without much fear for her own well being. Though he did give her credit for something, most wouldn't give him the time of day, much less just stand there and talk for a second. Still, his lips rolled back in a sort of smile, though if the moonlight reflected off hi silently pointed canines. He wondered what reaction would come, none preferably, but only time would sort that one out.

At first she just thought her eyes were playing tricks on her, but then she realised they werent. This one's teeth were sharp, indeed very sharp. Much more pointier than any other soquilis. Awnaety felt a shiver down her spine, but her face held emotionless. Holding onto her 'brave' look. Then sighed and slowly thought about his question. "You mean the pathetic Kalonas and those carpet wearers?" Awnaety gave a rather loud and obivious yawn. She has met a young kalona colt, and boy wasnt he something. Rather stubborn, like a bull being provoked with red. Awnaety chuckled at that thought. The fact was, she wasnt afraid to die, she was afraid to suffer. However, she wasnt going to share this secret with who ever this was. He had no right to know. Awnaety flicked her hair back when it flew in her face with the breeze. She partially wondered what such sharp teeth were for. He wasnt neither of the meat eaters, perhaps he was but in her breed's form? Awnaety found his teeth interesting, but she was not frightened by it. The shiver though, that was a bit weird.

Her eyes trailed from his teeth to his pendant. What do ya know? Pointy like his teeth. It was a pendant shes never seen before. Then again she never liked to notice things on others. Just tonight, this one's skin was so....bright that everything else seem to be much more noticeable. Awnaety was sure if they were in the daylight, this stallion be dull coated. Awnaety snorted and looked down. If he hadn't figured out that she wasnt afraid of the 'dangerous' ones from her bold question back. Well then she just wouldn't know how else to tell him. Awnaety never liked to come straight out with some things. Awnaety considered she should just walk away. However, this was her spot. Her spot. She was here first and she was not gonna admit defeat by walking away from a stallion. The mare turned her body and faced him, stamping her hooves rather harshly into the earth's surface.

Well he had to commend her for her brave front, but wasn't sure if she could really stand up to one that wasn't exactly... 'Friendly'. He had heard of skinwalkers with paws and being the ultimate in evil, ready to ripe one limb from limb and not even care if the victim were still alive, the screams were like music to them. But he merely shrugged, watching the trees behind the mare then looking straight at her for the moment. Letting her look him over and wonder what he really was. He was of her own kind, just a breed that tended to live more in the night then the daylight.

"Something like that." He mused over after a somewhat long silence. "I hear that they enjoy the screams of others while they unwittingly peel the flesh away from bones." Was he really trying to 'scare' her? Perhaps, he certainly scared another of his 'kind' with such talk. "But if you are that brave, just a glare should scare them off back to their shadows and turmoil." He concluded closing his eyes to thought.

Letting his stance give sort of a, 'what do I care' expression, he leaned to one side a little, though minded to not fall over. He too wasn't really interested in leaving, though he would if he had something else to do, which he really didn't. Stalking forward a little, he sidestepped as if he were going to just merely pass her. Though stopped when he was parallel to the mare, a black eye opening and turning to watch her from the corner. There he just stood motionlessly, his tail unmoving, besides when a breeze drifted through the strands.

"The name's Nikolas, protector of these lands and of the mountains beyond. Tread lightly." He said in clear warning, though it was a casual one. He wasn't of the kind to 'attack anyone' that came to the valley, he would merely try and intimidate those into fleeing on their own accord. "Stay if you like, get comfy if you want. The night is young and many will be out to play." His tone still casual, but something laid beneath it, but what?

Awnaety did not move to his actions or words. This time the shiver did not run down her back when Nikolas mentioned somethin 'frightening'. Only because she liked to watch the pain and suffering of others. Course she wouldn't like to watch someone get eaten, she liked the emotional pain and suffering of others. Not on herself however, which happens to be the case for this rather cold and lonely night. Her eyes watched him carefully as he stepped closer. She almost started to sigh as he seem to be walkign past her, but only to find he found a closer spot. Awnaety smoothly slided away from him, her face towards him, to make sure this one doesnt pull any tricks. He sure did bring up the mentions of meat eaters up quick in this conversation. That was a tad suspicious. Many did not like to speak of them, Awnaety personally didnt care. If she had to, she will. Perhaps this one was not a coward like others but brave like her then? Awnae eyed him more suspiciously. Very rare to find someone brave these days....

Snorting, Awnaety looked him over again. Stallions, always trying to look tough. A shock of pain hit her heart suddenly, and Awnae squeezed her eyes shut in pain while turning her head. Vibrant was brave, and always loving and protective over her. But...they ended. That was that. It has happend, is done. Awnae gave it a few seconds to let her watery eyes somewhat dry in the night breeze. Tonight was definetly not a night to meet any stallion. This was still her spot. She will not abandon it. Finally feeling the confidence gather back up inside of her. Awnaety pulled herself together as well and straightened her neck. Eyes a bit glossy now. Tail flicking from side to side. The mare had nothing to say to what he has said, well was that the end? Will he leave now? Awnaety snorted again and looked up at the sky. Stars were out now. Bunch of pathetic soquilis making useless wishes on them all over this land werent they? Awnae gave a disgusted look and held it as she turned back to Nikolas. She was in no mood to share her name.

Nikolas watched as she looked to the starlit skies over head, then back toward him with the same disgust she had given those over head. The silence was deafening as he stood there watching her, listening to the wind whistle through the trees like souls looking for someone to care about their loses. Ears flipping to the sides some as she silently questioned him, he wasn't sure he wanted to know what was going through her head, nor did he really want to ask either. Though there was still something that gave away the fact that something was wrong, behind the disgust for him, there was... Hurt.

His eyes softened from their common unforgiving expression, he watched her still unmoving. Head tilting to one side as he caught the tears that had come to her eyes, before she closed them tightly, now he had gone and done it. Swinging his rump around so that he was watching her, Nikolas now felt like the heel here. Making the mare cry when all she wanted was to rest and let the night carry her away from the world for a least a moment.

"I'm sorry if I had hurt you, in any way." He spoke softly, like the wind as it were as his head dipped down a little. "I don't know who or what might have hurt you first, but I meant not to open healing wounds... That of whom might have hurt you before must have been a fool to do something like that." he nodded gently before looking back toward the mare with his black eyes, forgetting what he was for the moment.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 9:17 am

The dark mare straightened herself and looked at him, still trying to hold back the tears now that hes mentioned the word 'hurt'. Awnaety tried to make her eyes show a glare. "You should not be admitting defeat when you did nothing wrong," there was no such thing as 'sorry' in her world. There was winning and losing. Her eyes still watery and failing miserbly at the attempted hate she tried to insert into them. Nikolas had called Vibrant a fool, now was he? Was he the fool or was she? "He was not a fool!" She let out a little too loudly. "...I.....I was the fool..." Awnaety felt stupid, now that tears were crawling down her cheeks and falling one by one into the earth. How could she believe she had found happiness when in the first place she found her world so dark the moment she was born. How could Vibrant be truly hers forever. Awnae shot a hurtful look to Nikolas and whispered "All of you are the same," she snorted and turned her back to him. Not caring if he did play a trick as she would rather die at the moment. Awnaety refused to turn back, and quickly tried to recover her calm state. Which she never really had before. Lately her moods had been out of her control, there was no telling when she might suddenly burst into full of sugar and sweets Awnae.

Her heart thumping loudly in her ears, this was real and cryign was just admitting defeat herself. She finally clear herself up, but the streaks the tears left behind on her cheeks can not be dealt with. Perhaps it was best to walk away, let him take this spot. She has already lost, so why keep up with this pain. Awnae started to walk off, but found her steps rather difficult to take. The scene before her was lonely, and dark. Emotionless and empty. She did not want to go that way, it was how she felt but she didnt want to suffer and be reminded anymore. Nikolas was not any better. The mare sighed and halted on the spot. Only a few steps away from where she last stood. Wondering what this night would bring to her unforgiving self.

If had been a feather the wind would have knocked him over when she stated quite clearly and rather loudly that she had been the fool... How? He didn't take her for a fool, nor one to make mistakes. Though the statements about his side of the species being all alike, he gave a mild shrug. Remaining silent and watchful as she stepped away from him, though only a few hesitant steps it seemed. Before she glanced around with tear stained eyes, boy, where was his brother when he needed him. He was the one for all this, Nikolas hadn't really 'loved' since a time he had almost forgotten.

"That is true, we all are the same. The same could be said for many others of the Soquili race. But is it not something we can't look past and see what truly lies beyond the foolish masks? Each face if different, as is each heart and soul. Share the same then tear it apart..." He stopped trying to remember how it went. "Oh, Kris, what was that saying again." He muttered trying to recall his brother's saying, now he really did wish he were here. "Tear it apart and you might as well be living a half life." He finished finally, though had to improvise the last part as he couldn't really remember.

Turning to watch the mare, whom still hadn't spoken of her name, he doubted she would ever speak her name to him in a million nights. As she had said, all his sex were the same. Heartless, cruel beasts of burdens. Though not in so many words, but he got the idea. What ever had happened in her past seemed like something that might have happened in his own. A love gone wrong, pain and torment from being tone and tossed away. Yeah, he knew that feeling all too well, though his brother's pain was a deeper anguish then his own. Nikolas never really found true love, perhaps he was just learning from the wrong master... Who knew.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 10:09 am

Halfway through his rather, or what felt like, long speech, Awnae looked down and everythign blanked out then. Her eyes rolled from side to side watching the grass dance in the wind. She wasnt sure how she felt and how she should present herself to anyone anymore. Did she really love Vibrant at all? Most likely not. Awnaety didnt understand what she heard from Nikolas, and she held a hurt look to the ground. Half trying to recreate her emotionless expression. Finally achieving it, she pulled her head up and looked back at him. Then she did a semi-circle and faced the stallion emotionlessly once again. It was best to feel no emotions, to dodge all the pain. What coudl she say? All stallions were the same, just ones out there running around greedily collecting happiness for themselves but never thinking of others. Awnaety cant say her side of the gender was any better as shes seen worst fems than males. Shaking her head, Awnae knew she would not be as low as any of those losers. The mare looked at Nikolas, does he even understand her situation or was he trying to look smart...hard to tell. Specially when she was not the type to be telepathic. If only, then she'd clearly see what everyone would think of each other, and most importantly, herself.

Awnaety wont deny that she is greedy, she is. It was only natural, but she has never truly try to take or break anyone. Besides her brother, although she still couldn't quite understand what she did to Micah. However his pain was rather joyfully taken in by her. Perhaps thats how he felt, what shes feeling now. He had lost a love, and it was because of her. Perhaps thats what Vibrant and her had run into, another mare comes running and her so called 'love' goes running after her. All the wrong ideas and images appeared in Awnae's mind and started mumbling to herself. Stopping, what seemed to be only a few seconds, turned out to be quite some time. Silence had taken over and Awnae did not know what to say. It was a rather desperate call for company but it was also a time where she wanted to be alone to solve her issues alone. What didnt kill her would only improve her. Awnae flicked a glare at Nikolas, one without a fail. She decided she'll look at him like he was Vibrant, course he did agree that everyone was the same.

Nikolas showed no change in his softened expression as he watched her. Watched her turn around to face him once more, the glare that came toward him. He just let it roll off his back like water he didn't care about being glared at. Though there was still something that kind of nagged at him. He wondered why she spoke of everyone being the same on his gender. Whom ever she had met before, had they really done something and made her feel that it was her fault? It would be interesting to meet this someone she was upset over.

"Keep to your shadows, they can only hide you for so long until something find you. Remember that not all shadows claim to be of shelter. Chose the wrong one and you'll end up in more trouble then you ask." his tone light before he turned to walk away from her, though an ear turned back toward her. "You might find that perhaps someone can help you if you let them. I'm sure that I am not the most appropriate one to look to. My past is laid in shambles of love and lost. Hurt and turmoil, mostly caused by one whom hurt another I care for. Remember, you are not alone in this world." He said softly letting the wind carry it back towards her.

Stepping into the trees, his ebony black tail twitching as we seemingly vanished like a ghost into the shadows. Though it was still there that he stood watching the mare, watching of her reaction. Would she follow and want more answers, or would she stomp, huff and walk away in the opposite direction. He waited to find out, if anything he would leave her alone... For now.
