What time was it?

She’d been wandering for hours now, lost in thought and not bothering to consider the possibility of returning home at a decent hour. Night had long since faded to morning. She’d taken the single-minded efficiency of a train on its tracks; the road was stretched out before her, and she was going to follow it.

At least, the road used to stretch out before her.

Ears flicking up, a curious expression replacing the dulled, distant look she’d adopted only moments before, Nakanadi turned her head left and right and tried to decide how far she was from home this time. She could see mountains, lit in soft shades of blue from the rising sun, and the plains below. Yep, she’d walked all the way up a mountain trail and didn’t even realize it.

Shaking her head, she noted that it was definitely her mother’s fault that she wandered so much, and cared so little about getting home on time, or telling anyone when she was leaving. Maybe it was her own way of trying to get her mother’s attention – by seeing how far she could run before Tetyawna noticed she was gone. So far, she hadn’t noticed at all.

Bitter thoughts aside, which she dismissed with an apathy unlike the which a foal should ever display, she directed her attention to the problem at hand. It was definitely cold, as the sunny and misleading mornings tended to be. Goodness, she’d walked the entire night. Her legs ached a little, but since walking had become her new best friend, she was used to it, for the most part. Only youth and thin sticks of legs kept her from walking forever.

She inhaled the sweet mountain air, eyes drifting closed with a comforted sigh. She could live up here. It was beautiful, and peaceful, and from her position, she could see for miles.

And alack the day, she’d probably best be getting home. Chest heaving in a heavy sigh, she turned and stared down the trail, admiring the dainty flowers sprouting here and there.

“A few more minutes won’t hurt,” she told herself, lip curling to a tiny smile. After all, the weather was glorious. Absently, she wondered why she hadn’t come across anyone else yet.

Then again, not everyone was foolish enough to walk through the night, alone. She should have been grateful.

User ImageEstelle stormed along the rocky path, the best place to see the stars was always the top of the mountain, but the atmosphere started to give her a headache which always made her get into a slightly bad mood. Her life had been more eventful lately than it had been since she was a young frilly. She had run away from home due to her father, but recently she had met an arrogant person who had caused her to take a personal vow of silence. Until she could meet someone who understood her she would not talk. Grunting softly to herself she began the long trek back down the mountain. The sun was a lazy flame beyond the landscapes horizon, she yawned lazily, and she hadn’t stayed up all night yet she had only sleep for a couple of hours.

Each step to begin with was rough and laboured which caused her to stumble softly every now and then. What adventures where in store for her today? The chirping of nearby birds brought her comfort as her headache slowly begun to drift away.

Yawning gently she closed her eye for a moment and when her gaze focused again once more she noticed the presences of a young frilly. It felt unusual and strange to see such a beautiful creature so young and alone this time of the day, and from the slight wobble in her step it was obvious she had been up most of the night. Perhaps she too enjoyed the stars? Yet it would be impossible to find out with her sudden silence towards the world, there was only so much you could communicate through foot stamps, grunting and random other noises that did not involve articulating words.

Thinking over the situation in her mind she looked towards the frilly once more, perhaps she could keep her company, or perhaps she would simply walk past? Shaking her head at the thought of event contemplating the path of ignorance made her annoyed at herself, she did not seem to be herself lately, why had her recent encountered stirred up such dramatic emotions, perhaps it was due to her past, perhaps she was regretting her actions?

Dusting away these notions she turned her attention to make a beautiful smile flicker across her face as genteelly as the sunset. Approaching the youth with each step she stopped a few strides away from her and stomped her front leg in welcome. Her way of saying 'hello' without words.

Ears flicking immediately upward, Nakanadi's eyes turned to the newcomer, wide with surprise. The sound Estelle had created when hoof met ground was a startling contrast to the silence of the day, but aside from her expression, she did her best to hide her surprise. She certainly hadn't been expecting such an exotic looking soquili.

Inhaling quickly through her nose, Nakanadi steadied herself and inspected the mare with avid curiosity now. She'd never seen a horse with markings - or coloring - like that, and her growing fascination led her to walk up to Estelle for a better look, ignoring the possible consequences.

Finally, she trotted lightly to be in front of the mare, looking up into her eyes. "You're beautiful," she said in awe, her voice taking on a bit of envy. "You look like that, up there."

She tossed her head upward, where a few stubborn stars still remained dotted in the sky.
