I was looking at astrology things on the internet and I found this web site, it calls it the real solar zodiac signs, but why isn't Ophiuchus in any books I've read? I would make me a Sagittarius which I feel more like anyways, but is there a reason why astrologers aren't using it?

Holy crap! You live in Eugene, too?! Wowza!

As for Ophiuchus, I remember hearing about it a little bit ago. It's the sign they think moves behind [something, I can't remember what exactly] after exiting Scorpio but before entering Sagittarius (or was it another pair of signs?). Correct me here, I'm a little sketch-minded when it comes to these things.

I'm noticing the pattern of 12 units (12 hours, months, split into 6's and doubled into 24's, it has all worked out very well) of everything that has worked for centuries is now turning into the pattern of 13 (The 13 month calender would be a good example of this, the lunar year). I think it's certainly something Astrologers should look into and not just ignore it (like poor little Chiron sad ), but until we know much more about it I don't think it should be heavily used in charts. It took is thousands of years for us to understand our current Zodiac and we are still dumbfounded when we receive new information!

Here's a really cool article I stumbled across while scrounging through the internet (which actually links back to the original geocities link, Cap55!).

Quote:
This is kinda intriguing to me, and I'd like to know what the opinions are about this sign. Astronomically speaking, Ophiuchus (the Serpent Holder) comes between the constellations of Scorpio and Sag. With that in mind, there are technically 13 zodiac signs, not 12. It seems it was left out because of the way the modern (Roman) calendar is set up, which doesn't make sense to begin with.

in reality, there are 28 days in each lunar month, and 13 months in each lunar year... not twelve months. Likewise, there are 364 days in a year, not 365. Yet another problem with the modern calendar is the order of the months. In reality September should be the 7th month (Sept = 7), NOT the 9th. October should be the 8th month (Oct = cool , December should be the 10th month (Deca = 10), which would mean that February should be the 13th month.

What are the implications of this astrologically speaking? Seems to me it would cause quite a mess, as a LOT of ppl would technically be born on a different day or even a different month, which could mean they would actually be a different sign. I'm a bit confuzzled as to what to think about this.

I think it's brilliant really, to have a 13 month calender [and 13th sign] because obviously ours doesn't work too well since we have to substitute ACTUAL time. The moon knows what's going on, listen to the planets. smile

Thanks that is interesting!! It would make sense, I feel more like a Sag (then again I have my moon, mars,Venus, mercury,Asc in Sag) But then it would make everyone else a different sign. I like psychology and would knowing what sign you've been forever I.E. My friend who's a Pisces (shes in the guild and lives in Springfield) would knowing your said sign make you act or feel like a Pisces?

So the question is if now finding out your technically another sign will you act like the new said sign or continue being an Aries,Taurus,Gemini, etc that you've been forever?

Well, I think it really would just change the signs after Ophiuchus, so
Aries - 1st
Taurus - 2nd
Gemini - 3rd
Cancer - 4th
Leo - 5th
Virgo - 6th
Libra - 7th
Scorpio - 8th
Ophiuchus - 9th
Sagittarius - 10th
Capricorn - 11th
Aquarius - 12th
Pisces would be the 13th

see here? razz

Now I'm wondering if the cardinal, mutable, fixed & fire, earth, air and water elements would change?
I'm pretty sure the folks with signs near or after Scorpio (when Ophiuchus starts) would, after lots of study, find many Ophiuchusian qualities if it is indeed a sign effecting them like the 12 traditional signs we know of.

That's pretty cool, though - three people in Oregon out of all the folks in this guild! biggrin

It would make everyone the sign before their sign. So I'd be a Sag, my best friend An Ophiuchus, my mom Gemini, sister Libra, Bro's Cancer, etc

So it would screw everyone one up, and What would Ophiuchus be an earth, fire, air, water? Cardinal,Mutable,Fixed? Why the hell did stupid Astronomers have to be lazy and superstitious and cut it from 13 to 12?

I'm so glad my generation will run the country soon, Astronomers are going to have to hear me up and down. I want to know why Astrology isn't a college class but Astronomy is?

Are you a high schooler? I go to Churchill and attending UO next fall.

hm I heard of this extra sign but I think it would be a completely different thing, than an extra sign really. Maybe more of a different scorpio and different Sagittarius, if you get me.

I was reading something and it would make it like a cross in between them.

Astronomy is a science of the stars and Astrology is a belief based off of that science. It's studied in some schools but not many because it's considered a spiritual track, which intertwines with religion, and as we all know, Religion should not be mixed with Education and State.
I really wish there was an option, though. Astrology is incredibly valuable in every day life. Heck, Astrology deals with medicine/health, money, location, time, personal relationships and most of all it deals with yourself and your connection with the world.

I went to Wellsprings, actually, which is the school right next to Churchill. It's the alternative one on 18th where you see all the kids smoking at the bus stop with piercings and weird colored hair. I believe Wellsprings has an Astronomy class this term with Eva, a new teacher. Yeah, that's Wellsprings.
I'm going to LCC taking some prerequisites for Flight Tech. I aspire to be a Test Pilot and/or an Astrologer. Unfortunately one pays better than the other LOL. So in the mean time I study Astrology and volunteer around the Aviation community (Norwest Fly Fest was a blast this year biggrin ).
That's pretty cool you're going to UO next year. I'd go there if I had the tuition money for it. It's pretty expensive compared to LCC ($80 a credit compared to ~$100 something at UO), but every once in a while I'll hang out in the crafting area in the EMU adjacent to the Survival Center.

Thats cool, I know that school. Does LCC have an Astrology class? Grats and good luck with the piloting job. Well if I can't get any scholarships, etc I plan on going to LCC plus its cheaper going two years then transferring.

Not that I know of, but that would be awesome. I'd expect LCC to have some pretty spiffy classes like Astrology and such, but there wouldn't be much of a point unless they got certified to teach and accredit certifications to students, which I doubt will happen 'cause funding keeps having to get cut down. sad
Yeah, that's what I'm doing for now. LCC is an excellent college and Oregon is the best place to learn to fly (overcast and such. most folks don't even get to fly in the type of weather we have here until they already got their private pilots license so it's kinda scary).
