So i'm about 5 1/2 months pregnant.
i'm not real big, sometimes it's not even noticable.
i sleep on my stomach quite often.
and im paranoid that it's making the baby
uncomfortable or something.

i guess what i'm asking is-
how do i know when to stop
sleep on my stomach?

Tummy sleeping is actually more of an issue for mom than it is for baby in most cases. Your baby is sort of like an internal organ, fragile but also protected. But tummy sleeping can cause you a lot of discomfort. So basically, you'll know when to stop tummy sleeping when you can no longer tummy sleep comfortably.

Sleeping on the left side is the best for most women because it takes pressure off the back and organs and increases blood flow. But what works for most women may or may not work for you, so ask your doctor just to be safe.

You can read more about it at these sites:

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I used to sleep on my tummy, but stopped when I found out I was pregnant because I knew it would take me FOREVER to break that habit.

I still want to sleep on my tummy because my shoulders have started aching from sleeping on them so much and the baby goes NUTS if I lay on my back.

But, laying on my tummy feels like sleeping on a watermelon. A squishy watermelon, but..a watermelon.

Yeah.

I'd say keep sleeping on your tummy for as long as its comfortable and Lorien is right, the baby is protected very well. 3nodding

If its comfortable for you, its almost always fine for the baby and will do no harm to him/her in any way.

I agree with everyone here. It's all a matter of comfort, you shouldn't worry too much about how you lay. But I was a tummer sleeper until about 7 months, I was too uncomfortable then, no matter how I laid. LOL. Good luck.
