I usually do a personal sketch for every character (except those who are just a name and maybe a phrase). However, mine are waaaaay less detailed than that.

Name:
Age:
Physical Appearence:
Race: (Yes, I have multiple races in my novels)
Personality:
Likes/Dislikes:
Fears:
Backstory: (usually a line or two when I first dream up the character, but I have a few that take up a page now. One of my main characters deserves a book all his own to talk about his backstory)

I leave it very open because all of the above info is subject to change in an instant if I feel like it would further the overall story. More or less, I use sketches as referrences when I forget a minor detail (like eye color that I haven't mentioned since page one) and I can't find it in the text. But, it also helps me to get a better understanding of the character.

O-O
Wow! Mine aren't nearly this detailed. I do write rather long backstories though... mind if I use yours?

You even include favourite juice? Wow!

This has made me miss my characters and wish I didn't have homework. sad

Favorite juice is just an interesting thing to think about. I mean, what does it say about a person (character) if they prefer orange juice to apple juice? Or mango juice even? Or grape? Or kool-aid??

Juice itself isn't really an important aspect, it's just an interesting quirk that gets you thinking about your character on a very personal level.

Feel free to use mine, since I jacked it from a few others anyway xp

Race: (Yes, I have multiple races in my novels)

The race aspect is of course legit if you have more than one. I've been writing Earth based fiction lately, so it's pretty human-standard... If I were to use my profile sketch thing for a fantasy genre story, I would just put race in where it says "Ethnicity"

Thanks. mrgreen

I always do that kind of thing when I have to do a survey for school... I always make it up, but sometimes I throw in a few entries "by" some of my characters. It's quite interesting... I actually got a plot twist from it. xD

I might use it now for some existing characters. Thanks again! biggrin

Yeah, I write a lot of fantasy that's not earth-pased, so keeping races straight is big for me. But, it does change if I'm doing realistic fiction or something. But, I haven't done one of those in a while.

Wooooooooooow. It's glorious! *starry eyes*

Ahem. Anyway, I usually just do mains, but I have a story coming up wherein everyone who is a member of this certain organization will be getting a profile, even if some of them never show up biggrin .

No, I don't know why. I just want to.

Savin, just wanting to is a great reason to delve into the random details of minor characters.

I should start making some sketches for my Nano characters...

O______O

Dayamm.
XD

That's huge.
And also endlessly cool, I usually do these for the "lulz" but I think they're excellent for getting down and dirty with those hard to reach characters.
Kudos to those who can brave it. xP

Heeheehee, I had to post here cause it was such an old thread. (And because I actually have something to say, of course)

I think we need to make a shrine for that sketch, or something of the sort. Its exceptional.

I don't usually do character sketches... sometimes it makes me feel like a fail, because I can't fill them completely out. Like I don't know my characters or something... but I do! I promise.

As fun as all that extra stuff is, alot of my characters won't have things like favorite movies, books, etc because its based in the past- before some of the stuff was invented. And if it was invented, I don't know if that particular book or song had been written yet.

I also know most of this stuff so well, I just feel repetetive writing it down, and that leads to the feeling that I'm procrastinaing.

But, bravo to those of you who do them! I will eventually get around to it...
