Some years ago I read a totally crap book that was some sort of teen Frankenstein riff, where a young girl genius rebuilds her boyfriend out of dead parts and learns his parents, or her parents, were actually rebuilt monsters themselves..."lightning in their blood, lightning in their brain" bla bla bla. It was one of the many cheap books surfing off the wave of Buffy-type fantasy, itself floating on the lore of many a comic book and sci fi thriller. Anyway the crap book wasn't even horrific in the scary sense - it was just so bad, I couldn't put it down. Hope that makes sense.

That time spent reading that book, and its sequel, I will never recover. crying

Crap books continue to get published, with tired old themes - such as Twilight. I haven't read it but do believe it is teen trash, useful in that it gets kids off the machines and onto a book, otherwise not really helpful.
Should more crap books be published and relished, and valued by non-morons because they help morons read, or should they be banned, suppressed and burnt because they are better as toilet paper than literature?

I've had about four different people recommend that book to me--oddly enough, one of them was my mother. All were avid readers, which is strange... I suspect alien mind control. It's the only explanation.

I have a bad feeling I'm going to be dragged to the movie by either friends, or my mom, or some combination thereof.

I haven't read it. The summary screams crappy romance with vampires and practically no plot. There are worse books out there... can't think of any at the moment, but there are.

About the continued publishing of crappy books--tough call....

It might need to be a hidden practice. Late at night, when the rest of the neighborhood are numbing themselves on TV and computer, a few brave souls collect retarded books, hold a ceremony of explaining how many brain cells are killed by reading them, and consign them to a compost bin filled with hungry earthworms.

Then everyone reads a really good book to remind themselves of what literature is striving for.
