What does every one think about this new particle accelerator that is going to be started up to see if the big bang happened? Does anyone have information on it?

This comes up every time a new particle accelerator is due to come on line... And the question itself is worth considering, because It IS important to consider the consequences of one's actions... extremely important-- admirable and virtuous even! However, the people who want to turn on the LHC have done precisely that. They have considered the consequences, investigated, and found no cause for worry...
As I understand it, cosmic rays routinely hit the upper atmosphere (and the moon and other celestial bodies), with much, much higher energy levels-- they are a floodlamp to our christmas tree light: http://public.web.cern.ch/Public/en/LHC/Safety-en.html

Thank you for that. I know many people have been very concerned. I think most of the concern is stirred by lack of information or the gathering of the wrong information.

I agree, it's just lack of information and media scare mongering that causes all the panic. It's a shame the LHC's encountered problems already.

kinda of sad that media has the power to stop major breakthroughs in science.

saphria_eragon kinda of sad that media has the power to stop major breakthroughs in science. It doesn't. Whether or not the American people listen to the media, the LHC is still going to do whatever it wants. There are enough countries working on the LHC that it's above both public opinion and national law.
