Stand in the rain, stand your ground...
I'm super pissed. I passed out this morning because I guess I haven't been getting enough nutrients, because my parent's won't buy my the food I need. CURSE MY NOT BEING SIXTEEN YET!! gonk
And my mom is making me go vegetarian again. I just feel bad, now. I don't wanna eat abused animal products! emo
I'll probably go back to vegan in the summer when I can drive and have a job, but, I hate the fact I'll have to eat milk and eggs just not to faint.
Have any of you gone through this? How did you try to ease the guilt?
Stand up when it's all crashing down.

What nutrients are you not getting enough of? It's really difficult to be malnourished as a vegan unless you just eat junk food.

Well, I'd only become lacto-veg. Milking the cow isn't terrible for the animal, as if they do not have a calf, the cow NEEDS to be milked. Eggs, albeit they are un-fertilized when you get them from the store, I have more of a problem with. You can try to make the argument of only becoming lacto, as that is between lacto-ovo and vegan, and less of a sacrifice.

Buy some vitamins girl. The kind of ones that have all the possible vitamins and include calcium and other important nutrients too. I remember when I was travelling for a week last month and I couldn't find anything vegan from the ship we used to cross the Gulf of Bothnia, gosh I felt guilty for eating a mozarella-tomato sandwich... I've never felt like that before. I just had to comfort myself with the fact that there wasn't anything vegan on board, or atleast I couldn't find it, and the banana I had with it wouldn't have kept me satisfied for long enough time so that we would have gotten back to shore and I could have bought something vegan. And dear ~love: Cows in factory farms do suffer from milking, because they are constantly impregnated so that they'd produce milk. The calves are taken away from their mothers hours from their birth to be fed from a bottle so that you could drink the milk. In nature cows produce milk for their calves, and after weaning the milk production stops, if the cows hasn't gotten pregnant again.♥

Processed milk is like that, but not all. I am used to getting milk from a farm near where I live, so I know what it is like. They have about nine cows and four goats. When I drank milk, I got raw milk from either a cow or a goat. There was no forced pregnancies. Raw milk is better for both the cow/goat and people. Less shelf time but more benefits. Soy milk isn't all that good for you, however the isoflavones are good for preventing cancer. Though, the environmental impact isn't great. Raw Almond milk would most likely be the best way to go, for any diet.

:] Actually, dairy cows are among the most horribly exploited animals. The dairy industry is responsible for the creation of the veal industry. Cows have to give birth to a calf in order to produce milk, so they're raped, then their calf is taken away just hours or days (at the most) after birth, which is extremely traumatic, for both the calf and his/her mother. This goes on for about 7-8 years (cows live an average of 20 years in a natural environment); then the cow is sent to the slaughterhouse.

Soy milk is actually pretty good for you, especially in comparison to raw milk, which is easily contaminated and people have died from drinking. The dairy industry is also the leading producer of greenhouse gases and cause of global warming; making consuming dairy worse than driving a Hummer.
Unfortunately, in a capitalist society with a unquenchable demand for animal products where animals are treated as property rather than sentient beings, the farm you buy milk from is far from the norm. After they fail to be profitable, they're still slaughtered. And they still have to be separated from their calves so we can drink their milk. Cows also only mate during certain seasons, so I doubt there is no rape.

[The Looney Bin] You could just go buy vitamins =/. They're not that expensive =/. If you're passing out from not eating properly, vitamin supplements are not going to help. Of course, neither are milk or eggs.

Not all farms are like that; however, I still believe treating sentient beings as objects is wrong. Calves still have to be taken away from their mothers so we can drink their milk.
Since your aunts' cows apparently naturally breed year round and the average cow becomes infertile after 10 years and lives to be about 20, she has a lot of cows. And farming rarely provides enough money to get by, so how does she afford to care for all of the infertile cows?

Are you losing weight, too? Because if you are, and it is rapid, you can accidently develop an eating disorder or go into "anorexia"... so make sure that you stay hydrated and get your B-vitamins, your iron, your calcium, and many other important minerals.
B12 is one of my concerns. I am a vegetarian that tries to be as vegan as my beliefs allow me, and I need to constantly make sure that I am getting enough B vitimins. If fainting is a concern of yours, maybe talking to a nutritionist to get the "veganism figured out" would be a good idea.
Just a thought....

the real problem here is determining if you are actually nutrient deficient or not.
i passed out the other day but it was due to ovulation. i had no idea that was the case, and i was having bad pain in my abdomen, so my mom took me to the ER since i've never passed out in my life. the bloodwork said i wasn't deficient in anything, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. when i explained the pain to my gynocologist about two weeks later she said it was bad luck with ovulation. she's right; it was right when i should have been ovulating and i have pain every other month or so.
you shouldn't switch your diet just because you passed out once; it could have been a number of things. don't let your parents' anti-vegan mongering get to you.
if you really do feel weak a lot, you need to reevaluate what you're eating. i find it hard to believe that your parents would refuse to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts.

In my opinion you should find out whats wrong with you. I am a vegetarian and I have to go to the doctors soon because I have been sleeping to much and Passing out. I'm also getting headaches and not feeling as good as I used to. And cows are usually horribly treated and purposely impregnated for the milk and calves to be used at meat. Just because the cow is treated fairly doesn't mean it will be if they send it off to be slaughtered. Slaughter houses have some of the worst conditions and if you look up some of the videos there just heart breaking.
