"It doesn't hurt today."

The little boy's voice was soft as he walked down the road from his school, his small hand inside a much larger, much warmer one. The owner of the warm hand gave a small squeeze at the words as the pair continued to walk down a road that soon lost its smooth pavement and turned into a path that needed some decent attention from the city. His shoes made clunky sounds as they contacted with a few stones here and there, and the little boy could only sweep his slightly obstructed gaze over to the feet of his partner.

"Doesn't it hurt to walk around barefoot? It's getting cold out and the ground is really hard."

"Not really, no."

The response was soft and gentle, and the little boy's face flushed at the sound of his companions voice. She didn't say much when she spoke, if she said anything at all, so it always filled the child called Fineas with joy when she decided to answer him.

"I like the feel of the ground beneath my toes, it lets me know that I can move around. Not as freely as I could before, but still enough."

She had something like that before in a conversation, about not being able to go to all the places she had seen prior to coming to the city, and Fineas couldn't help but wonder what she meant by it.

Around the walking pair children were running home as school had let out for the day, and as a child or two ran past the strolling couple Fineas couldn't help but shrink against the taller frame of the woman with him. He hated this time of day more than anything, but since Hinalle was with him now it wasn't always so bad.

Her backpack was so damn heavy. It didn't help that it was really just a laptop case with a strap (it looked cool, which was the point), but she would blame it all on the obscene amount of homework she'd been inflicted with. Well, that and the ink blot who currently occupied a small diamond vial. The sparkly little thing had been a gift from her father to her mother, and it got passed down- a good thing, too. Otherwise how she could spin the thing around her fingers and keep the damn blot somewhat quiet?

(terrorterrorterrorillness went the mote of awareness that she called Sumi)

"Hey, Princess!" Huian's grin split her face practically in half. Oh, today was just too good- not only did she ace that damn calc test, but now she ran across the weird kid (whose name was Fineas, she was pretty sure) who generally got his a** kicked on the playground. Normally it wasn't her style to beat up on a kid who already got beat up on a lot, but hey. Opportunity strikes, and Mhin Huian answers. "Saw you today."

Fineas's blood froze in his veins as a familiar named hailed out to him, a greeting he usually knew to be followed with fists or kicks or whatever else his classmates decided to do that day. It wasn't always Princess though, it was usually something else or a combination of things, but there was only one person in the school that addressed him as such.

"Mhin Huian..."

His hand did not leave Hinalle's even though he took a few steps to get behind the much taller woman's frame, his face resting against the middle of her back. It would have to be his luck for this to happen as well, for someone to want to come and get a hold on him during his walk home with Hinalle, and as he bit his lower lip to prevent saying anything more his distress seemed to transfer over into the hand he was holding. The woman he was with looked down at him and then over at the girl with a mixed look of confusion, though it was hard to tell behind the mask she wore.

"Is she a friend of yours, Fineas? I've never seen her before."

Hinalle didn't move from the little boy's side, though she did offer a warm smile in the girls' direction.

"Aw, don't run away, princess," Huian teased. She let go of Sumi's vial and caught it in her hand (relief) then stepped forward a little. "This your sister? Ha! I don't see how." Course not. She found the brat kind of homely, and, well. If Huian tended to think of anyone as pretty (she didn't) the blond woman with the mask would qualify.

She shrugged, only just then noticing that the lady had a similar 'feel' to her sixth sense as Sumi. Her eyes narrowed minutely, and she started to spin the vial again.

"Hinalle's not my sister, she's my friend. You know who my sister is."

Fineas was only talking brace because he was behind Hinalle's frame, his hand still in hers and shaking something slightly fierce. He already had a patch over his right eye and couldn't see out of it until the swelling went down, not to mention the few bandages here and there on his cheeks and hands, and he frowned as Huian didn't seem to want to leave any time soon.

"Don't you have something better to do? Like go kick a puppy or anything?"

". . .. That ink."

Hinalle didn't seem to be paying much attention to the chatter between the two children, as her attention had been grabbed early on by the vial in Huian's grasp, and for a moment her beautiful face lit up with a smile.

"I can feel Soma. You must have gotten that from him."

She smirked at the invisible kid. "Ha, puppies are for the weak," she told him. "Real connoisseurs like myself, we don't go for animals. Na. I don't have anything to do at all." Except for a pile of Calc and Chem and then some Physics. Why had she gone and taken all the honors classes anyway?

Her gaze moved to the lady. "The hell is Soma," she said crudely, spinning the vial faster in agitation until the blot inside decided to articulate as best it could:

"Tasukete! Hottoite!"

"Ah, shut up," said Huian, catching the ink and pretending to drop it, though she still held the chain it balanced on.

"You had best let that ink alone, or at least don't abuse it in front of me. It's got sentience so I am quite able to feel its distress at how you're treating him."

Hinalle frowned and gently squeezed Fineas's hand, reassuring the small boy that she was not going to go anywhere. To her Huian was not a source of any worry, both mentally and physically, so she stood her ground.

"As for Fineas, please refrain from calling him names or treating him badly like the others in his class. I'd think you were old enough to know better but I'm not sure if that's the case."

Not once did her tone change from polite, her words casual and gentle despite their stinging nature.

With a sneer, Huian tossed the ink into the air a few more times to even more vocal protestations. "I know it's sentient," she said. "And it is a guy? Thought so." She paused and flicked the side of the vial. It certainly didn't act like a guy would, but then, how could you tell with genderless black blobs? The mote of awareness practically shrieked about the indignity of it all, but she ignored it.

As for Hinalle's attempt at an insult (or maybe emotional guilt-tripping? she didn't pay much attention) the teen wasn't swayed at all. "Eh," was her only response. "So Sumi came from some man named Soma? That'd make sense." She didn't say why, since she didn't have any intention of ending up like Fineas. That's what happened when you were a geeky little nerd like him, and psychic powers made you a geeky little nerd by default.

"I don't know if he came exactly from Soma, but chances are he played a part in you getting that ink. As for its gender I just assume things that are unknown to me as male. It's easier that way."

Hinalle reached over with her hand and patted Fineas on the head, as the boy had snuck out from behind her while he felt it was safer now that Huian had turned her fangs towards Hinalle. Seeing as she was still so new to the Earth despite having watched it for so long Hinalle didn't quite understand interactions as well as she should, and was probably considered too gentle.

Soma often told her not to go out because of that (and other things as well) yet she always made time to come and walk home with Fineas. She loved the little boy.

"Isn't Soma the name of your Master, Hinalle? You've told me he's the one who made you."

Well that was a bit of a disappointment. "So some drunken perv named Soma caused an ink blot to bubble up on my desk somehow. That's really, really comforting." Actually, it kind of was. It sounded a lot better than 'Oh, a black thing just RANDOMLY popped up on my desk. Hahaha, lolol, funny'.

Still. Huian had principles. "So tell me, Hinalle. What's the mask for? Are you hideously deformed or something?" She strode forward and reached out, clearly intending to snatch off the mask.

Hinalle backed up a bit as Huian drew closer to her, though it wasn't as if she was trying to get away. Instead it was more of a conditioned response since she recalled Soma telling her that her mask was very important and didn't need to come off her face for any reason at all.

"I would appreciate you not calling Soma a pervert, as I don't think he'd like that too much. Though I can't say he isn't one, since I'm not sure of his intentions when he makes all of us."

( and somewhere in heaven, a figure sneezed )

She batted Huian's hand away as it drew close enough to graze the tip of her mask, a smile still on her features.

"Please refrain from touching my mask as well. I'm not hideously deformed or anything of the sort - I just can't take it off. The only one who can is Soma, or my partner."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 15, 2008 6:57 pm

She laughed, a cold and sneering sound. "No god or wizard or what the hell ever made me," she said, grinning flatly. "And anyway. How do you know you're not so deformed if you've never looked?" Crude, yes. Straightforward, definitely. But it tended exactly towards Huian's style. Subversive tactics weren't her way.

"Anyway..." Again, the asian girl reached out. This time, she'd react if the woman tried to knock her hand away, and neither of them would like it.

"I did say to leave my mask alone, did I not?"

Once again Hinalle brushed Huian's hand aside, though this time she did manage a frown. This human girl was trying her patience, and as kind as Hinalle wanted to be she still could burn those who needed it. She made no distinctions once she was displeased with something or someone, and with that thought in mind she gently moved Fineas from her side.

The young boy seemed troubled and had been quiet the whole time, still staying at the taller woman's side, and when he was pushed back he looked hurt but obeyed. Part of him felt sick inside for rejoicing at Huian's attentions not being on him, and part of him felt nothing but worry for his kind friend. He didn't know too much about Hinalle, she never talked about herself, so from here on out was new grounds.

Huian let her hand be brushed aside and allowed the momentum to carry her a staggering step forward. Quite purposefully, with a disgruntling grin on her face, she overstepped and tripped herself so she fell directly into Hinalle.

Her first impression was heat, and a searing blast of pain that made her body jerk a little into an instinctive arch. Too late, she defensively pulled her powers to the forefront and pulled back, one hand flying to the side of her face. That and her left hand had been the only parts to touch the woman's exposed skin. Because of the sudden, strong influx of power she could feel the consciousness of all around her. It was overwhelming. For a moment, she doubled over at the cacophony of voices.

Then it was over. Her smile came back, strange and deformed because it didn't spread to the burnt side of her face. "The hell are you? Some kinda government reject, a monster? God-" a god she didn't believe exist, anyway, and the irony was not lost on her. "-the Hell, even Princess ain't this weird. Even I'm not so weird."

"If I had to put it in words, I'd say she's the sun. More or less."

The wind picked up, if only for a moment, as the strange voice echoed about the area. It didn't have a set source from where it came, seemingly from everywhere and nowhere all at once, and the voice also didn't seem to have a set type it wanted to be. It resounded as both male and female, a deep voice that commanded attention and a female voice that politely requested it.

"Sucks when your plan to burn her backfired, didn't it? Oh, that's sort of a pun."

The voice continued to echo for a moment before it finally took a source, and both Hinalle and Fineas turned to see a figure sitting on the railing about ten feet away from the trio. It was dressed in a simple hoodie and a pair of jeans, a nice set of sneakers on their feet and their hair a ragged mess atop their head. In their hands they held a book, one which they seemed to be reading with the zeal of a person getting their teeth cleaned.

"Soma. . . "
