Lyrus had his face buried in the map of Pinepoint City. Professor Pine’s lab was harder to find than he had thought. “Lets see.. I need to go up this street.. No, wait! This street!.. No.. Ugh, it WAS that street!” He retraced his steps, putting the map in his backpack and strolling down his first choice of roads. He frowned when he discovered it ended in a high, brick wall. “I’ll never find Professor Pine’s!” He retraced his steps, yet again, taking the second road. This time, after wandering down the street for a good ten minutes, he found himself outside the Pokémon Center. This made him smile. “The Pokémon center,” Lyrus muttered to himself, “didn’t the map say it was near Professor Pine’s laboratory?” He once again pulled out his trusty map, examining it closely. It indicated that the Pokémon center was two streets over from the laboratory. He followed the street on the map, passing the Pokémart on the way. He passed the two streets separating the center and the laboratory before turning up one street and finding himself walking towards Professor Pine’s laboratory. He began running, stuffing the map in his pocket between steps. He approached the laboratory and the door slid open automatically, and he stepped inside. The room inside was.. different from what Lyrus had expected. He had expected a dimly lit room with laboratory tables that had piles of papers and stacks of books all over them. Instead, what he saw, was a brightly lit shrine to the laboratory’s sole human inhabitant. There were portraits of Professor Pine lining the walls, and very small, less extravagant posters of the available Pokémon beneath them. Lyrus chuckled. Professor Pine had quite the ego. He caught sight of the poster of Pokémon he was looking for. Mudkip, the Mud Fish Pokémon. His grandfather, who was also a famous Pokémon professor, had shown Lyrus a list of the Pokémon he could choose from Professor Pine. He had immediately chosen Mudkip. His grandfather easily could’ve given him the Pokémon, but he had decided Lyrus needed to travel a different region other than their own. Lyrus looked around, searching for the Professor. He was nowhere in sight. Lyrus pressed down on the little bell on the Professor’s desk. “Excuse me,” He said, trying to get a look down the hallway that branched off from the room, “Professor Pine? I’d like a Mudkip.” He waited a moment before ringing the bell again.

Professor Pine had been carefully examining the state of his mustache in his hand-held mirror when he heard an annoying ringing fill his ears, followed by an equally annoying "I'd like a Mudkip." Then that was followed by the same annoying ringing. Why did he take this job again?
Right. Because of the fame. And it would have looked bad had he turned it down. Not much he could do to help it, then. Might as well give the kid a Mudkip.
With an irritated grumble, Professor Pine walked out of his office, down the short hall to his desk, where he saw a kid standing. He thought he vaguely recognized the boy's face - perhaps a relative of a colleauge - but honetly didn't care to place it. He'd probably never see the boy again anyways.
Professor Pine reached into his desk and pulled out the pokemon asked for - a Mudkip. He noted that the small bucket behind his desk labelled "Mudkip" was now empty.
"Take down the Mudkip poster, please," he said off-handedly to one of his assistants. Then with that, he handed the boy a pokeball, forcing on a fake encouraging smile. It was good for press. "Enjoy your adventure in Hantou!" he declared.
What a load of lies.

Lyrus smiled at the Professor, then gazed in awe at the Pokéball as he clipped it to his belt. "Thank-you, Professor," he said, turning away from the Professor and heading for the exit. He looked back at the Professor one last time before leaving through the automatic sliding doors. Once outside, he unclipped the red and white orb from his belt and threw it up in the air. "Go, Mudkip!" The ball opened, sending a beam of red light to the ground before returning to Lyrus' hand. He reattached it to his belt and gazed at his new ally, his new Mudkip. The little, blue pokémon looking around before looking up at Lyrus. "Mud!" It called, it's little tail beating back and forth playfully. Lyrus assumed the little pokémon was a boy, so he would refer to it as "he." The Mudkip seemed fascinated with the outside world, since it had been cooped up in Professor Pine's lab for a good part of it's life. It licked it's lips before waddling over to Lyrus, ducking in between his legs. Lyrus laughed. He could tell that he and Mudkip were going to have a lot of fun. He picked up the little pokémon before heading off into Pineport City.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! What a wonderful day today was, with good reason of course. Today was the day the Kabuki would receive a Pokemon from Professor Pine's laboratory. She was skipping down a street, arms swinging in time with her constant hopping."Oh hooray! A Pokemon of my very own~ La la la la..la la...la..." The girl's singing stopped once she realized something. She was lost. Oh dear...
No worries, no worries. Just pull out the map and find out where you are. So, reaching into the bag that was slung around her waist, and with some rummaging she was able to find what she was looking for. The map! She unfolded it and took a look at it. Let's see now...Take a left at the next corner, and then take a right, and then another left? That was right...? Well, she had some time anyway so she could probably afford to get lost anyway."Alrighty then." the purple haired girl said, her dark eyes glancing from the map to what was in front of her."Time to get a move on!"Well...her charging forward with no sense of direction didn't exactly work to her advantage. Now she was even more lost than she previously was to begin with. Oh dear, how was she supposed to find the laboratory now. How how how?! Wait a second...That building right in front of her...The sign says 'Professor Pine's Lab'. Well...At least she had found it anyway. She folded the map back down to size before slipping it back into the white bag slung around her side. She then skipped happily to the door, it opened for her, and the strange girl disappeared inside.
The interior of the lab was extra-ordinary! It was sooo coool! True, it was a bit cluttered, but Professor Pine was a man of science. And those people have an excuse to be messy. Or so says Kabuki's mother which is why the girl has to clean her room every weekend. Ah well, no time for flashbacks. Time to acquire a Pokemon. The purple haired girl took a gander at the wall full of Pokemon posters, and some of the Professor. After a little while of deliberating with herself, she found the one she wanted. A Charmander!! They were the coolest in her eyes, and she'd been wishing for one for a while now. Yes yes yes! That is the Pokemon her heart desired. It was then she noticed that someone else was here as well. A boy that looked to be about her age. He must've been here for a Pokemon too! Whoa, they haven't even met and they probably already had something in common! What a world this was.
Kabuki skipped right up besides the boy with a grin on her face."Hello there. I'm predicting that your here for the same reason I am?" she asked him, putting a finger to her chin as she tilted her head. Obviously the other was here for something, and it could've been what she thought. Why else would anybody been a the Professor's lab anyway? But then again, it could've been another reason of sorts. Either way, Kabuki was curious and wanted to know. But it was then that she noticed the Professor had just arrive, so her attention turned to him. "Professor Professor, can I please please PLEASE have a Charmander?"

Professor Pine once again put on his fake smile.
"Professor Professor, can I please please PLEASE have a Charmander?" He felt his stomach churning, but he kept the fake smile.
"Well, of course!" He said, ducking down behind his desk to find the bucket marked "Charmander." He found the bucket and reached his hand inside. Not counting the one for the girl, he only had two left. I'll need to order more.. He stood up, handing the Pokéball to Kabuki. "There you are, young lady." Good riddance..

The girl couldn't contain her excitement. She clutched the Pokéball in both hands as she jumped in the air. She let out a squeal or two as she continued jumping up and down."Oh thank you thank you, Professor!!" she exclaimed before twirling around and then rushing right out of the laboratory. In her case, her 'thank you' was already a good-bye. Only when she was completely out of the laboratory did she throw the ball into the air. "Come on out, Charmander! There was a flash of white light bursting forth from the Pokéball and hitting the ground. It formed the silhouette of a Charmander, and once the light faded there stood said Pokémon. It shook its head and glanced around. It then turned around and spotted a human. No doubt its trainer. A smile came upon the little Pokémon's face, and it let out a cheer. "Char Charmander!" Perhaps it was saying hello.
But whatever it said, Kabuki couldn't have been happier to have one. She swiped up the Pokémon in her arms and hugged it."You and I are going to make an awesome team." she told it with a grin on her own face. "Kabuki and Charmander!" The small red Pokémon gave another cheer. It then hopped out of the girl's arms and began to hop up and down. Looks like it was anxious to get a move on.
But, was it a boy or a girl? It's voice confused the girl considering its voice was a bit high-pitched. Hm...Well, she'd figure it out eventually. In the meantime, she’d refer to the Charmander as…Hm…Oh! Partner! It was gender-specific at all, and it was perfect for what the two now were. Perfect. It was then Kabuki noticed that boy from inside the laboratory. Huh, so he had gotten a Mudkip, eh? Interesting… Apparently, the Mudkip was interesting to Charmander as well because he was now running after it in order to meet it right now. He still had a smile on his face as he approached the other Pokémon, wanting to give it a big, warm ‘Hello!’ Kabuki only noticed this when she looked down and saw that her Charmander wasn't there anymore. Frantic, she scanned her surroundings and caught sight of the little thing running after another trainer. Uh-oh...No time to waste! Kabuki broke off in a sprint right after the small Pokémon, hoping to catch up with it in time.

Mudkip looked at the Charmander from Lyrus' arms. It wriggled free, climbing up over his shoulder and jumping down onto the street. It tottered towards the Charmander, tripping over a rock it hadn't noticed. "Mud!"It called, standing up and continuing it's journey towards the Charmander. Lyrus had turned around when Mukip had escaped his grasp, and now he was following after it. He noticed the Charmander's trainer was doing the same, except she was running.

► ► "...Maybe a Steelix, or Poliwrath, or even a Solrock would be cool..."
Anthony Belvidere was talking to himself, hands stuffed in pockets, as he slowly guided himself to Professor Pine's lab. He had lived in Pineport all of his life, and always dreamed of the day his mom would allow him his very own Pokémon - his thirteenth birthday, as she promised.
Well, she was two years and six months overdue. But that didn't matter! Anthony was determined to become the next Pokémon Master! ...Only, that title sounded kind of lame, so he was aiming to be "Beastly Boss of All Things Pokémonly." No matter the title, he was aiming to be on top, and would do whatever it took to get there - starting off with getting his first Pokémon. The ones he was mumbling to himself before were a select few of the many he'd listed on his way to the lab; he obviously didn't realize that you had to start small in the Pokémon world.
Nevertheless, he pushed open the doors to the lab, taking in a deep breath like most people did in movies, as if a new place would smell better than the outside. The scent didn't change much, if at all - it was just a little cooler inside than out. Still, he strode over to the table, eyeing the posters for the Pokémon available.
"Pikachu... Marill... Oddish? Where are all the strong ones?" He whined, disappointed in his choices. There wasn't even a Hitmontop for him to take. Frowning, he pointed at a pokéball that was supposed to contain a Growlithe. "I suppose I'll settle for you..." After all, it'd eventually evolve into a big, strong Arcanine. Plus, it'd be kind of like a pet - he'd always wanted a small Pokémon as a kid. (Or a big one, or a medium one...) He turned to tap Professor Pine on the shoulder before the man went back to work.
"Hey, can I have one of the Growlithe...s..?" he asked, unsure of whether the correct plural term would have an S or not. Whatever. It wouldn't matter. He was aiming to be the Beastly Boss of All Things Pokémonly, not the Beastly Boss of All Things Grammatically Correct.

Professor Pine mumbled something under his breath, but turned and faced the boy with a bright, fake smile on his face. When will it end?...
"A Growlithe, eh, Young man?" The Professor asked, returning to behind his desk. He, once again, ducked down behind it and searched for the bucket marked "Growlithe." It took him a few moments, for when he was getting the Mudkip for that other child, he had put it's bucket in front of the Growlithe bucket. He drew a Pokéball from the bucket, stood up, and handed it to the boy. "There you go, lad." Now get lost, the News crew is coming soon and I don't want any snot nosed brats running around my laboratory.

Wow, that Charmander was fast. Must've had energy to burn or something like that. In any case, it was able to stop itself when in came within speaking distance of the other Pokémon. It's arms were spread out wide as it began to hop up and down. "Char Char Charmander!" It yelled to the Water-type, its arms now waving around in the air. Why was he so active right now anyway?
Nevertheless, its trainer had finally been able to catch up to the small red Fire-type. She let out a tired sigh and shook her head slightly."Geez, Charmander, you can't always go running off like that. From now on, you have to stick close to me." she said to it with a slight pout on her face. It hadn't been about five minutes since she had gotten her Charmander, and already it had run away from her. Didn't mean she was an incompetent trainer, did it? It was then she noticed the Mudkip's trainer coming towards them.

Lyrus approached small group, squatting down next to Mudkip. The little blue pokémon looked at him, before turning it's back to him and continuing it's examination of Charmander. It had never seen another pokémon like this. Come to think of it, it had rarely even seen another pokemon in general. The flame burning on the tip seemed to amaze Mudkip. It inched towards the fire, it's little eyes glowing with the reflection from the flames. Lyrus extended his hand to the girl, smiling at her. "I'm Lyrus," He said, "I guess our Pokémon are friends now, huh?" He chuckled.

She felt a cool breeze upon her back, and tried to keep her head clear in the hustle and bustle of the city. She focused on what was ahead of her, holding a white cane. At least, she was told it was a white cane - for all she knew, it could have been hot pink with lime green polka-dots. She couldn't tell in this light.
It was useless, anyways. She was only using it because her mother-dearest insisted that until she had a pokemon to help her see, she needed something to help her along. Nevermind the fact that she had never needed a cane before in her life - no, she certainly needed one now.
The dark-haired girl snorted. It was probably the same reason that she was getting her first pokemon at age 17 - at least two years older than most of the other people she knew. Because - oh no - she couldn't see as well. Sure, she could hear two times as well, and had known how to function without her eyes for her entire life, but the fact remained.
She was disabled.
What a stupid term.
Finally, she came to the steps of what she understood was the laboratory. She walked past a few people who sounded like they had already recieved their first pokemon - a Mudkip and Charmander? It didn't matter. Soon, she stopped about a foot short of a desk, and flipped her white cane onto her shoulder. She was ditching this thing as soon as possible.
"Professor Pine," she started, turning in the direction she thought she'd heard an elderly male voice some from. "I would like a Shinx. Do you have any left?"

Well, Professor Pine surprised himself. He actually felt sorry for this disabled girl. Then, his stomach grumbled and he realized it was simply gas. Since this girl was blind, he decided to ditch his fake smile.
"Let me check, young lady," He said, dropping down behind his desk. He located the Shinx bucket easily, since it hadn't accidentally been hidden like the Growlithe one had. He reached inside the bucket, groping for a pokéball. Just before he had decided to give up, he had found one on the other side of the bucket. I need to order more Shinx as well.. He stood, brushing himself off. "Here we are."

► ► Gripping the Pokéball in his left hand tightly, Anthony smiled. "Gee, thanks, Old Man," he said, heading for the door. "I wonder how long until he'll evolve into an Arcanine..."
He didn't bother pausing to mingle with the other trainers - they'd all be his opponents in good time, anyway - and simply headed for the doors to the lab, same way he had entered. He very nearly bumped into some girl with a cane and bandanna over her eyes, and frowned. The fashion trends sure were weird lately. Or maybe she just came from another town. He spent a moment standing with the door open, pondering that matter. Would he need to blindfold himself to be the Beastly Boss of All Things Pokémonly? He sure hoped not - it'd be kind of hard to battle if he couldn't see what was going on. Oh well, whatever. He could worry about such things at another time.
With his concerns settled, he happily exited, throwing his Pokéball into the air and catching it as he walked. "Guess I should name this Growlithe, huh." He had an awesome name planned for his first-ever Pokémon, and was glad he could finally use it. It'd work for any species, too! With a grin, he caught the ball once more. "Alright, Growlithe, I choose you!"
The Pokéball did nothing.
"Crap... How'd you open one, again?" He fumbled with the ball, awkwardly, trying to get it to open. Finally, a bright flash of light indicated his Pokémon was released, and the little pup wagged her tail at her new owner. "Grrrrooowll-lithe!"
"Aaaallrighty, Growlithe, the first step for me to be Beastly Boss of All Things Pokémonly is to name you. So!" Anthony was pointing at his Pokémon, who seemed more than interested in earning her name. Her tail wagged excitedly.
"Get this... Your name's gonna be Anthony Junior!"
The new name hit the Growlithe like a rock on the head. Didn't her owner realize that she was, well, a she? She growled under her breath, already disliking the beginning of their relationship. Her owner seemed to have cared less about her reaction, doing somewhat of a victory dance - either he was terribly cruel, or terribly stupid. Once he was done, he picked up the Pokéball again, prepared to withdrawal Junior. She growled again, not looking forward to any moment spent with this kid.
It was going to be a long journey.✖ ✖ ✖
