- Route 1 -

Level Range: 2-7
Wild Pokemon:
Common: Pidgey, Rattata, Sentret, Starly, HootHoot, Zigzagoon, Wooper
Uncommon: Psyduck, Poochyena, Krabby, Taillow
Rare: Marill, Squirtle, Poliwag

The first stop on most people's journey to become a trainer. Route 1 is the perfect place to train. Being close to a large city such as Pineport City, it clears off most of the truly powerful wild Pokemon, leaving weaker ones behind. It still isn't far from the ocean, and the beach is in sight the entire way, so water pokemon are abundant here.

Movement Posts Needed: 2

How to Leave:
Pineport City
Riverdale

A Poliwag wandered along the beach, just off of the main route. It slashed water up from the waves, and would ocassionally try to chase the water droplets it created. It seemed unaware of its surroundings apart from the water - a perfect target for a sneak attack.

A Starly hopped around the grassy areas near the route, looking for food to eat - perhaps an unfortunate baby Wurmple, or a few pokemon food pellets left behind by some clumsy trainer. It didn't seem to be having much luck, but it didn't give up its search, and continued to peck at the ground in hopes of a tasty morsel. For the most part, it ignored the trainers walking past, unless it smelled food on them. That was all they were good for anyways.

A Krabby scuttled along down the beach, snapping its claws defensively. It was trying to secure its territory for when female Krabbies came to visit, and as far as it was concerned, its current patch of sand was the best on the beach. It could not be beat!

► ► Ahh, Route One.

Anthony had passed through this route many times before while visiting other towns, but never on his own. His mother insisted on the buddy system due to the fact of many wild Pokémon that "might go rabid and bite him." He rolled his eyes at the memory, and scanned the area.

Ah! A Poliwag! Anthony had always wanted a Poliwhirl - they were so strong and cool and... yeah. Well. A Poliwag could evolve into a Poliwhirl if taken well care of, so he took a step forward, preparing himself for battle.

"Junior! Go!"

The Growlithe was a little surprised to be called out of her Pokéball so early, but stretched herself nevertheless.

"Attack!"

Anthony Junior Cocked her head, looking back at her owner. She couldn't exactly do as told until he specified a move that she knew - Bite and Growl were the ones she was familiar with. Was he really that dense?

"Go on! Move! Attack the Poliwag!" Anthony growled at his Pokémon. Couldn't he understand human language? Was he really that dense? "Just bite it or something!"

The Growlithe rolled her eyes. She supposed "Just bite it or something" would count as a command to use Bite - it was better than anything else he suggested so far. She charged at the Poliwag, teeth bared. Hopefully, the kid was planning on catching Poliwag - she thought that all the other Pokémon in Hantou should be just as miserable as she.

The poliwag glanced up as it suddenly found a large, orange pokemon coming to attack it. That couldn't be good. It tried to get out of the way of the bit attack, but instead tripped over its own feet, simply making it more vulnerable. It took quite a bit of damage from the attack, and made a vague attempt to roll over. It spat out a weak bubble attack, which missed for the most part. It wasn't exactly having a great start to this battle...

After walking for a while, the duo finally arrived at Route 1. The path had several patches of tall grass strewn across the road.
To the side, there was a sandy beach adjacent to a magnificent cerulean tapestry.

Carmine headed towards the glistening tide, a gentle zephyr lifting stray strands of hair away from her face. The familiar smell of salt permeated the air. Gazing at the shimmering surface, the girl marveled at it all and said awestruck, "It's beautiful..."

Cyndaquil, for one, didn't agree. He was a fire Pokémon, for goodness' sake! It was just one really big puddle to him. He didn't understand why his trainer was so amazed.
Besides, he was kind of nervous; they were in a strange place. Cyndaquil had never left the confines of Pineport before.

Suddenly, Carmine snapped back to her senses and remembered that she needed to catch at least one more Pokémon while she was through this route.
And maybe get in some training too...

Glancing at Cyndaquil, Carmine pondered what kind of Pokémon she should capture next. Well, right now, she had a Fire type in her arsenal.
...Maybe a Water type?

Scanning the sandy beach, she spotted a boy battling a Poliwag. Darn. She was aiming for one of those... Well, she'd just have to cope.

The trainer spotted a Krabby, scuttling down the beach. It snapped its claws aggressively. Carmine winced, but it would have to do.

"Go Cyndaquil! Tackle!" Carmine exclaimed. Cyndaquil merely tightened his grip on the girl's shoulders. "...What's wrong?"

Wait, that's right... Cyndaquils were generally timid. She thought that she had received one that was different, considering how he acted the first time they met...
Not to mention this was probably his first battle...

"Look. Everything will be fine. That Krabby's probably...what? Level 2?", said Carmine with a reassuring smile. (At least, she hoped it was reassuring.), "You're a Level 5! You can take him. You'll be ok, I promise." She hoped it would work. She never was good at pep talks...

Gulping, Cyndaquil decided to Tackle the hostile Krabby. It was worth a shot, right?

...Right?

► ► "Kheh," Anthony grinned. This Poliwag sure was stupid. It would be easy to catch, he noticed. After a moment, the thought made him frown - if he had a stupid Poliwag, then wouldn't it bring down his good name? He pondered for a moment, then quickly smiled. The Pokéball probably had some kind of function to make a Pokémon smarter once it was caught.

"Bite it again, Junior!"

His Growlithe, clearly having recovered from the bubble attack seconds ago, did as Anthony instructed - she sunk her teeth into her opponent's tail, hoping for some good damage to be done. The little pup had superiority issues; she needed to teach this Poliwag who was boss.

Anthony, too, come to think of it.

The Krabby was ready for the tackle, but didn't do much to dodge it. Instead, it tried to be brave and stand its ground - unfortunately, this didn't make up for the fact that the Cyndaquil simply had more brute strength. It took the hit dead on, but still managed to retaliate with a bubble attack in the face, doing a fair amount of damage due to the type weakness. So far, so good...

The Poliwag took the hit again, but this time managed to regain itself. Though badly injured by this point, it managed to unleash a bubble attack right back at Junior. Due to the type weakness and Poliwag's short burst of strangth, this attack did much more damage than it had before.

Oh wow oh wow! Oh wow!! Route 1! The first route on her journey was all that Kabuki had wanted and more. She had just come from Pineport City with her very first Pokémon, Charmander! Still situated on her hat if she might add. Oh well, he could stay there because the purple haired girl was so enthralled by her surroundings. Trees here, rocks and grass there. No doubt there would be a wild Pokémon or two wandering around in the tall grass. Heehee! All of this was so exciting!
"Oh man! I can’t wait to catch my second Pokémon here." she said throwing her hands up in the air. Her mother had told her that she would need to catch some sort of Pokémon besides her starter. Two was better than one, right? But what kinds of Pokémon were found here again? Uhh…well, she would know when she saw one, right? Skipping her way into Route 1 it was then she remembered something. She was traveling with a partner wasn’t she? Ah, that’s right! How could she forget about Lyrus at a time like this?! She stopped dead in her tracks and turned her body to face the other new trainer. She would have to apologize for this…

Charmander let out a noise of surprise when he saw what was around them. This was so different than what they were in a little while ago. This place was definitely more out in the open. He had to get a better look. So, he jumped from the top of the female trainer and onto the grassy floor. It felt weird to him, experiencing it for the first time after all. He bent over and felt it with his claws, his eyes widening every moment. Hang on, where was Mudkip? This is something that the small blue creature had to see.

Lyrus had finally managed to catch up with Kabuki. He stopped in front of her, kneeling over and panting heavily. He angled his neck so he could look up at her.

"Man," he said in between pants, "you're fast!"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Mudkip waddled up next to his trainer. He had more stores of energy, so he wasn't as winded by the jog. He lifted up his paws, a little freaked out by the feel of the grass. He sniffed the grass, then tottered over to his pal Charmander.

Kabuki placed a hand behind her head and let out a sheepish laugh.
"Y-Yeah…I’m really sorry about that Lyrus. Sometimes I just let myself run rampant and forget to control myself. But I’ll try not to let it happen again." she stated with some determination. She wasn’t actually how sure she would be able to do that the next time something exciting or epic came up. And being her first adventure, probably 85% of it would be exciting, give or take.

Charmander hopped over to his friend, chuckling his name at the feeling of grass. It was so weird, but it felt so cool at the same time. He tilted his head at Mudkip, but then righted his head and threw his hands up in the air. The flame on his tail began to burn brighter than before as the little Pokémon’s excitement grew and grew.

Carmine watched the battle intently. One more attack should do the trick.

"Ok, Tackle again! You're doing great!"

Cyndaquil bounced back from the Krabby's Bubble attack, adrenaline coursing throughout his body.
So, this was how it felt like to battle. The Pokémon once again did a straight-on Tackle against Krabby.

The Water Pokémon was not going to get away with launching those painful bubbles at him.

The Krabby, not having the best of battle instincts, decided to try and take the attack head-on again. However, it seemed to have misjudged the strength of Cyndaquil's attack and after being hit, fell over. It raised its left claw as some last form of resistance, but finally, even that fell too. It had been defeated.

► ► Junior was not happy with this battle. At all. She growled under her breath while awaiting for Anthony's next action, wishing he were smart enough to have her attack a Pokémon who didn't have a type-advantage against her. Stupid boy.

Anthony, on the other hand, seemed completely clueless as to his Pokémon's peril - he was focused only on the Poliwag. "I think I can catch it," he grinned, grabbing his bag from his back. "My Pokémon team is going to rock!" After a moment or so of sorting through various items, Anthony finally pulled a red-and-white ball from the bag.

"Poliwag, prepare to join the most beastly Pokémon team in all of Hantou!" He chucked the ball at the small Pokémon, striking another superstar pose with a goofy grin.

The ball, on the other hand, had different plans. Due to Anthony's less-than-stellar aim, it soared not above the Poliwag, like it was supposed to, but instead a few feet away. He winced, wondering if the ball would still open, but luck was on his side - a bright flash indicated the attempt of Poliwag's capture.

But there was always a chance the Poliwag escaped the ball.

"Wow, that was great Cyndaquil!" Carmine exclaimed.

Fumbling around in her pouch, she finally found what she was looking for: a Pokéball. She held it in her hands uneasily; she was about to capture her very first Pokémon.

Hoping for the best, Carmine threw the empty Pokéball at the unconscious Krabby and watched as a bright light engulfed the Water Pokémon.

"Okay," Lyrus said, standing up straight. He looked around for any tell tale signs of recent pokémon. His eyes lingered on a bush with a few leaves missing, but then he turned back to Kabuki. "Have you see any pokémon?"

Mudkip rolled around in the grass. He looked around, thinking he heard a noise, but realized it must have been the wind.
