User Image"Alright, listen up rookies. This is where I, 'The Maverick' Hyato Krouger, teach you, the new guys, how to actually survive in combat situations. Now before any stupid questions come flying at me; Yes, this room normally is just a huge area with white walls and such all around that create virtual environments and blah blah blah. Yes, you can get injured though you won't sustain anything fatal.... in theory.... If it's any consolation we got a fine medical team ready to respond should for whatever reason things go critical. By the way, I wouldn't suggest being stupid enough to believe that getting wounded during simulation doesn't hurt. Trust me when i say this: IT'S HURTS LIKE HELL!" Hyato explained as he waved and gave a wink to some of the cute nurses amongst the medical squad standing by in the near vicinity.

"Also the weapon or weapons that you bring with you here into the B.T.S.A.T.G Room are real and can kill you if used like morons." Hyato emphasized his point by simultaneously popping his right arm out in front of him, firing a shot from his handgun, and quickly returned his arm to make it look as if nothing had happened in the first place. The speeding bullet whizzed by one of the rookie's head's, coming within a millimeter of
newbie's head. A big sly grin was planted on the Sniper's face as he witnessed the rookie nearly shitting himself in horror at Hyato's accuracy, amongst other things.

Shaking his head he returned his attention to the new recruits standing before him. "Sorry, I got distracted. Now where was I? Oh, right, the whole explaining how not to die in a fight while making it sound like another boring fancy training video and whatnot." The blue clad marksman bluntly said in a sarcastic tone.

"Right so long story short, pay attention and above all else under no circumstances should any of you guys try to act like me. It's just not gonna happen and one last thing before I sit back and enjoy the show is this: if you guys do anything that is just beyond plain R-tarded then I'm going to take the liberty in showing you how to dance." The black haired man said while holding Plague [one of Hyato's custom handguns] up and tapping his shoulder repeatedly with his weapon of choice.

"Any questions? No? Good. Access code: 09214-7778. Name: Lieutenant Commander, Hyato Krouger. Initiate start-up training program 0999." The elite sharpshooter spoke as he verbally entered the proper commands to begin training the rookies. The room quickly changed its setting to that of Medieval times and everyone in the room stood in an open plain that had appeared to be the setting of many a battle in wars that had been fought.

"Well, showtime!" Hyato exclaimed in a-typical fashion.

Gwynn blinked as the area he was in changed. It wasn't his home, that was for sure.

His attire was that of a knight, a new one at that. His sword had not seen much combat, and even though he had potential, the young man had not mastered it by any means. A sword was at his side, a shield already positioned on his arm.

He had heard that he would allowed to train here to learn how to fight more effectively, but wasn't sure how it would go. How could he improve here? As he walked about, Gywnn found that he didn't see anyone else in the area. How disappointing. He must have been taken far away from the others...

User ImageA small female voice can be heard through Hyato's communication device that was hidden in his ear saying, "Come in , Commander Krouger, do you read me?"

"Krouger here, what is it? I'm a little busy training the rookies so it'd better be something at least entertaining to do." Hyato replied in his typical smart a** demeanor.

"Well, we finally got your new orders just now. You are to travel to the planet Murrekai and wait... I've just been informed they're going to send someone else instead. The higher ups want you to continue training the new recruits." the young female responded as she brushed off the young sniper's attitude.

"Heh... they just want to stick me with the boring assignments don't they?" he replied continuing his sarcasm.

"Uh-huh, Okay. I'll inform him at once." she mumbled inadvertently over the radio.

"This won't end well..." Hyato grumbled to himself thinking aloud about the possibilities of what the higher ranking officers of E.N.I.G.M.A. wanted him to do.

"Hey Hyato, they want you to send all but one of the recruits back. The one who's to be left behind goes by the name of Gwynn. He's believed to be a knight from the kingdom of Ivalice on the planet Murrekai. Anyway, you're suppose to young intelligence worker cut off the radio channel.

Hyato smacked his forehead as the news was brought to him. "Exactly how am I suppose to train this old fossil? Ugh...." he said as he realized the channel had been turned off before his question came out. Giving a sigh he began his task. "Training program pause."

The current environment of the battlefield disappeared along with the realistic weather effects and so on. Crossing his arms Hyato continued, "Okay, everyone but a guy named Gwynn leave the training room." As all the other rookies exited out the room Hyato then turned to face the very confused knight.

"Restart program." Hyato commanded. As the room changed back into the setting it had previously depicted before Hyato let his arms drop to his sides. Looking around he saw a good number of swords scattered about the plain. Some with bone remains and others just embedded into the ground all of which were weathered and somewhat rusted.

"If I use my guns then I might as well just kill the guy... guess this means I'm going melee. I swear the things they make me do sometimes..." he thought to himself. Scanning the area once more, Hyato found a sword to his liking and walked over to pick it up. With sword in hand he paused for a moment thinking. "I guess the proper way to say this is, I, Hyato Krouger, challenge you to a duel." Hyato said as he thought actually saying said words was just plain silly. The blue clad marksman readied his sword waiting for Gwynn's response.

User Image The very area in which Gwynn was in was mind-boggling. He had been told he would be taught how to improve his swordplay, and yet...the others had left. Not only that, the guy with the gun earlier now brandished a sword to him, challenging him to a duel.

"A duel? But I thought this was a training ground," a very confused Gwynn responded. Had he done something wrong? Had he inadvertently said or did something that was disrespectful enough to warrant the life and death situation of a duel? "If I have wronged you, then I must apologize..."

But even as he said that, he pulled out his sword as well. He wasn't about to give Hyato a clear opening to impale him if it truly was that horrible...whatever it was he had done. He knew he was a stranger here, not exactly even sure how he managed to be in this place. The technology was something like the legends of Ancient cities in his homeland...

User ImageHyato blinked a few times in confusion. "No. No, you haven't done anything wrong. Um... just forget what I said. I meant let's begin the training." he blurted out. Hoping that all confusion was cleared away, Hyato resumed his stance while waving with his free arm for Gwynn to make the first move.

"Right then..." Gwynn saw the signal to move and moved forward quickly, moving to swing his sword down at Hyato. Though the young knight was sure to keep in mind that he had to be ready for any sort of assault from his mentor in return.

User ImageHyato took note of Gwynn's mobility as it was a little faster than he had anticipated. Other than a side note, it didn't really phase the man clad in blue. He brought his blade to meet with Gwynn's momentarily and took a step back to put some distance between himself and the knight again.

"Hmmm... not bad. But, you're still not coming at me full force. If I didn't know any better I'd say that you're a weakling. Now come on! Either fight me like the brave knight you claim to be or I'll just let everyone know that you're a coward!" Hyato said mockingly with his signature smug look on his face as he entered a defensive stance waiting to see if Gwynn took the bait.

Gwynn shook his head, grimacing at the word 'Coward.' "I'm just getting started!" he shouted, swinging his sword again, striking at him again in a flurry of attacks, all similar in angle to the one that he had before, but this time, he finished with moving his sword at a midblow that, if left alone, could most likely cleave the man nearly in half.

User ImageHyato couldn't help but let out a chuckle at it being easily able to get under Gwynn's skin. The marksman parried the first two attacks still with relative ease but, as the attacks kept coming he was then forced to use both hands in orders to keep his balance from the steel clashing against one another.

Hyato barely caught sight of the oncoming cleave coming straight for his midsection. Thinking quickly, he managed to do a diving roll just in time to barely avoid missing the blade entirely or so he thought. He noticed a small gash across his left shoulder and got a rather annoyed look on his face as he stood up and turned to face the knight once again.

"Well, aren't you just a little spitfire?" the sniper remarked at his small flurry. "Heh, guess I'll just have to return the favor." Hyato remarked as he began to run towards the knight when all of a sudden he heard the sounds of gunfire in the distance. Immediately stopping in his tracks, the confused marksman looked around and saw nothing but an empty field with some random rocks placed here and there.

More gunshots could be heard as a small number of bullets came flying past the former Sigma member's head. Simultaneously the virtual world had instantly vanished as it became increasingly apparent that something wasn't right. Hyato quickly turned around almost in shock as to what he had witnessed.

There were bodies littered outside of the training room. Splatters and pools of blood everywhere coming from the fallen members of Enigma. There were soldiers clad in the distinguishable uniforms that only one faction had donned as their own: Sigma.

"What the hell?" Hyato muttered aloud to himself softly. He noticed the sword in his hand had disappeared along with the rest of the virtual battlefield which left him unarmed for the moment. Placing a hand on his radio, he called out, "Hey Celia, do you read me? What the hell is going on down here?" All that came through was empty static at first. Then after a few moments a familiar female voice could be heard in small spurts.

Celia was still at her post while the attack by the Sigma soldiers still ravaged the small underground Enigma base. "Come in, Commander Krouger, do you read me? We're under attack by Sigma. They just came out of nowhere. How they found us is still a mystery in it's own right." She called out over the radio as she was forced out of her seat by a small explosion nearby. Voices of Sigma infantry could be heard barking out orders followed by gunfire.

The young female scrambled to put her headset back on as she sat on the floor next to her console and continued informing Hyato of the situation as best she could. She wasn't even sure if he could hear her at this point but she spoke anyway in hopes of being successful. "If you can hear, then we need you to eliminate the Sigma insurgents immediately and you also need to protect any remaining survivors. And one more thing... If I don't make it Commander... it was a pleasure serving with you." Celia said as tears began to roll down her face. Sure she had basic training just like everyone else but, she didn't stand a chance against one Sigma soldier let alone an entire assault battalion. She held her standard issue laser pistol in her hands while entering a fettle position.

At first, Gwynn started to prepare himself for Hyato's return offensive, but the knight's face quickly went to that of confusion when the strange occurances first started. The sounds of gunfire weren't unknown to him, though it was fairly rare where he came from. Machinists usually stuck in one town.

As apparent by the mentor's reaction, it was obvious that this indeed was not a regular happening. Worry furrowed his brow when the illusion went away and it revealed the carnage taking place beyond the room. The fact that the other weapons disappeared made the knight grateful that he had brought his own to this place, even if it did make him stick out more.

He glanced at Hyato, and moved back towards him. "We're under attack?" Gwynn thought that this place was just for training and such. What the hell happened indeed? "Then we need to get out of this room. We've no barriers to keep them from shooting us."
