What an a*****e.
While it's nice when cosplayers suit the characters they cosplay physically it's not really a huge deal. You just don't look or deal with it.
What exactly could he believe is so serious about cosplaying? Last I checked, you don't get payed cosplay. And it costs a lot of money. I'd honestly spend more time ragging on people with bad costumes.
And then there's the whole generalizing thing about Americans. It's like we can't ever get a break.

As I said in the topic, unless somebody is planning to do a photo session and get a really nice photo, which naturally you should have a nice costume and fit the character, then the entire point of cosplay is to have fun.
Halloween and Costume parties are the same concept.
I can definitely pull off Rath, if I get a good green hair dye, and match his outfit. Not all Americans are fat... In fact, I'm bone-skinny. D:

And Rath, you're exactly right. If you have fun doing it, then who cares if you don't FIT the character totally? I cosplayed Orihime last year and my hair isn't orange, and I don't have the right figure, but I had fun doing it.
So basically, he's just making a huge, ridiculous mountain out of a molehill. ><

Also, if you want to make a point that's going to be taken seriously and you're citing physical evidence for both categories, you can't pick the best of one category and the worst of the other. Or, you could, but people like me who are aware that the tactic's being used are not going to take the argument seriously.
