My Japanese Coach is a game for the Nintendo DS, and it's designed to teach you Japanese.
You can use the DS microphone for getting the correct pronunciation, and the touch screen to write characters.
My friend told me about this game, [coming out October 14th, I believe.] and is getting it for me as a late birthday present.
Has anyone else heard of this game? Do you think it'll be helpful?
Also, you can get it at gamestop.com [preorder] for about $30 if you're interested in purchasing it!

Already got a thread for these kinds of games, take yo' DS Japanese game chat there. Since it was on the 2nd page and it's your first time posting here, though, I'll let it stay open

I hear it has a lot of errors, like wrong stroke orders.

It really does. If you already know some basic Japanese, you can skip some of the beginning lessons, but not very many of them, unfortunately. It still forces you to go through half of the kana lessons, which were ridden with mistakes. Even if you already know the proper stroke order, it marks you as wrong.

I really wasn't a fan of the game. I tried to get through as much of the lessons as possible before I dismissed it, but I could only play the same mind-numbing, unproductive vocabulary games in romaji so many times.

If someone else has gotten any use out of it, I'd love to hear about it, though.

Someone found a cheat that lets you skip lessons, so you don't have waste time on stuff below your level.

Here's a link to the explanation.

I have it!

I think it's a great game actually.
It has a lot of ghetto but helpful mini games to help you study.
It tells you little things about Japan.
It's got a nifty little traditional japanese tune.

And it's got a dictionary, and a phrase book, and it gives you some writing practice...

Check if out if you can, and if you have a little extra pocket money, consider getting it. But I don't know how advanced it goes... My DS is missing.. crying

On IGN it says 1000 lessons but I highly doubt that... o_o

It's an okay game, decent for vocabulary and the phrasebook, but that's all. But for the same price you can get Genki I or a 2 month subscription at japanesepod101.com. So I don't really think it's worth it...
