Before you read my personal comment let me just quote my self, "Irrational Fangirl Hatred", and say this. I'm a super fangirl sometimes. Not in the stalker kind of way that screams "I LOVE YOU!". The kind that can get super passionate. Keep that in mind while you read my comment. Okay have fun reading and leave your own little comment about Steven.

He is the one who's taken of RTD's role as head honcho and after looking him up I have discovered that Steven Moffat is the cause of most of my hatred towards NuWho. He's the one that's been throwing in all the flipping birds ready to snog the Doctor till Tuesday. He's the one that killed the Daleks. Now I can look at David Tennant and Billie Piper and not curse their names! Yeah he did have few good stories but he's the one that did it. He's the one I can direct my irrational fangirl hatred towards! I'm only 15 and when I found ClassWho it had everything I was looking for! Excitment, tension, no drama that seems to be in every tv show these days! I loved it! And then Chris came. He was just as funny looking andcrotchity as the old Doctors! I was Loving Doctor who and then... *sigh* Gonna go sit in emo corner now.

Really? I was looking forward to him taking over, but now...

At least he won't bring back the Daleks AGAIN for a while.

I like Moffat.
He's done some great stories, and I think he's going to do a good job with the series.

He's got amazing stories, and considering they've all won awards of some form too. wink

I'm trusting him to not mess things up, and I can't wait to see what he has planned!

Some people show off their beauty because they want the world to see it...

Others try to hide it...
---------------------------------------

I think he's an amazing writer and in some of his episodes he uses natural fears, like the dark, and involves them in his stories which i think makes dw have that special touch..Although it dose already but ya get my point wink razz (:

---------------------------------------

Because they want the world to see something else..

I think his episodes are awesome. And he started with The Empty Child (not counting Curse of the Fatal death) so..he was the one who brought us Captain Jack! How can that be bad? blaugh And then Blink..which spooked me and so I really enjoyed it. And the library ones.. I'm excited that he's taking over.

Well while i'm not too up on classic who I am practically obsessed with new who...
While I thing that RTD is brilliant and I thank him immensly for bringing back such a fantastic show I honestly can't see why you have such a problem with Stephan Moffat...
If you were to ask me which my favourite episodes from each series were I would have to say his ones..(except for series 4 I preferred midnight)
Yes it is a change from classic who but the reason there was no sexual references in classic who is simply because of when it was made. It was the 1960s and england was rather conservative back then... Times have changed and doctor who has changed with them... personally i dont see the problem...Stephan Moffat is a brilliant writer and while I know it's your opinion I'm sorry but I dont agree...

Maybe thats just me but I'm looking forward to it...

Moffat is a talented writer. I think his Who stories clearly show this. However, I'm not sure I agree with his views on what constitutes a good story. Even though plotwise his stories have all been very different, they also 'feel' similar in some way that I can't quite define, and I definitely don't want to see only Moffat-esque stories from here on out. Variety is one of Doctor Who's strengths.

Also, he also came off as a bit of a pompous @$$ in this old interview:

I've noticed similarities in Moffat's episodes too, other than the fact that he creates new characters for them. I think there was a post thrown around way way back that had a huge list...

-reads article-

.... confused He does, doesn't he.

I love his stories but I do like the variety of Doctor Who.

And I can kind of see what he's saying in that article but he sounds very annoyed about it all. confused And I sit and watch an episode (ie: 30 minutes) of Classic Who every week when it comes on. It's not THAT bad. xp And just 'cause I'm a huge fan of a certain Doctor(s)/actor(s) doesn't mean I'm gonna bash the others. neutral

After Moffat was officially named as RTD's successor, someone actually asked him about that old interview and some of the rather critical comments he made. He seemed embarrassed by it, and sounded a bit... apologetic... I guess. So he's fully aware of how much of a pompous twit he sounded back then.

But, dude, he actually dissed Robert Holmes. That's like Doctor Who sacrilege!

And I still don't get his infatuation with the Fifth Doctor.

His sexual politics are very essentialist, which I don't have much truck with. But while that's come out strongly in a lot of his writing (Joking Apart, Press Gang, Coupling, etc) it doesn't seem to have reared its (IMO) ugly head in his Who work yet, so all is well.

Love his dialogue, love his vocal "It's a kid's show!" attitude to Doctor Who, and love the refreshingly light amorality of his stories - they're never about Good versus Evil, just about broken systems that need fixing.

I've no idea how his skills as a scriptwriter will translate into actually running the show though; filling Davies' shoes means having a sense of the Big Picture, and so far he's shown no interest in the big picture - just in small, intricate little logic games. There's no way you can extrapolate from his previous work what a Moffat 'arc' might be like.

By the way, that interview has to be understood in the context of the "Rad/Trad" debate that was happening in fandom at the time, especially around the subject of the New Adventures. And in the context of Steven having been very, very drunk.

RogueModron

That's like Doctor Who sacrilege!

In Doctor Who, sacrilege is almost always a good thing and the Doctor's almost always the one commiting it.

rofl You bring up excellent points, Richard... especially the part about him being apparently more than a bit drunk. xD

And that's true about the Doctor. mrgreen

I'm sure I read a quote from him somewhere about that - he said that he knew what's he'd written so far wasn't really arc-stuff, and he was going to be writing differently when he takes over... or something. I dunno. *can't remember where she read that or when now*

I'm not quite sure what I think, I love every episode that Steven has done, but they were all sort of special. Every time I saw his name on an episode I though 'Fantastic, this is going to be the scary episode' and I never was disappointed, but if he's going to run the series it has to be more than that.

The interview is interesting, and I actually like him more for it. I personally think that the 5th Doctor era is the best (particularity the Black Orchid) so it's nice to see someone shares my views. I've always found it amazing that the episodes were great even with horrible companions (It's sort of ironic to me that the nicest Doctor had the most horrid annoying companions)
