when i watched the last episode of elfen lied i was so sad that mariko had to die crying she was so young and so cute and only spent a few minutes with her father crying poor mariko

I loved Moriko to, but she needed to die. It was perfect, and she would have killed Lucy and everyon else.. And thats not how it should end. (even though Lucy dies anyway.. xd)

It could have ended another way. Kurama taking Mariko away and them living together elsewhere. With the way the anime ended things, Mariko's death wasn't entirely needed.
Moving this into the Elfen Lied series forum since it fits better there.

I think Mariko probably would have ended up killing Lucy and a lot of other people. She was too obsessed with killing people. She thought it was a fun game. I was really sad when Kuramo died though... I just thought that he did not need to die with her. It was very sweet that he allowed Nana to escape. As for Lucy, I think if she wanted she could have escaped. She could have went somewhere else. But she realized it was time... I cried when she had that conversation with Kouta.
EDIT: I never read the manga- only watched the anime
