The day was incongruously warm compared to the last few, though that was perhaps due to the fact that Xaivary had grown accustomed to the breezes blowing to and from the sea over the last few days of being near the coast. She was truly inland once again, drifting into a new sea... of trees. The forest had not yet become particularly thick, but it did block the wind... and while the trees also kept the sun off to a degree they also seemed to be keeping some of the heat trapped beneath their boughs. She had drifted in the general direction of what she remembered being referred to as "Islagiatt" lands, though it seemed as many knew nothing of the apparently rather large herd as there were that did. So really, she had no idea where she was, aside from the fact that there was a rather pleasant clearing here. A stream ran through the center of it, and Xaivy decided that a drink was in order. The water was cool and refreshing as it slid down her throat, and after raising her head and flicking the now damp ends of her unruly hair out of the way of her goggles, the mare felt that this might be a good spot for a brief nap. She dozed on her feet, as was her habit. A lone Soquili would be most unwise to risk getting caught without her feet under her in unfamiliar territory. While she did hope to encounter something unusual today, just because she had yet to run into any of the "unique" Soquili Honey said resided around here didn't mean she should let her guard down. If she did she'd probably wind up getting herself mauled by that Kalona guard or something. Hmm. That sun felt rather nice on her back. It was most difficult not to be lulled to sleep by that...

The young mare was oblivious to the world. Tromping happily, and quite loudly, through the woods Numielle hadn't a clue of her whereabouts. She didn't often pay much attention to the signs of other herds, as her family tended to drift and wander on the edges and outskirts of a variety of territories. Oh, she didn't cross borders and trespass purposely, but the winged mutant mare often lived her life as if among a dream. It didn't occurr to her that she might be an unwanted guest until someone directed her attention to such a fact. . .
Thankfully many she had met in her life had been most patient with her!
Humming softly to herself, the young mare allowed her spiked tail to swish carelessly behind her. As a young filly she had often found herself ensnared and tangled by reaching branches, but with age and maturity, her spikes had hardened and now easily slashed through offending foliage. Only now and then did she wind up getting stuck, but such moments were a rarity and she had learned to entertain herself during such moments of pause.
Step by step, and making quite a commotion, the mare pushed her way through the woods and headed straight for the water. A drink sounded lovely to her parched tongue, and her black and blue eyes almost completely overlooked Xaivary! It was only as she headed past the brown and white haired mare that something clicked in her head - SOQUILI!
And not just any sort of soquili but one she had never met before! And, not only was the brown and white one a new soquili, but she had strange growths upon her! Another mutant like her? Possibly, possibly! The mare stopped in her tracks, tilting her head to the side as she studied the black and white growth that sprouted from Xaivary's neck; there also were horns sprouting from a funny head and little black things as eyes! "Oooooooooooh - a fuzzy-fuzzy!" She breathed, amazed and awed at this incredible discovery.
Without missing a beat she had bridged the distance between herself and Xaivary, a radiant smile crossing her features. This was absolutely delightful! "I'm Numielle - who're you, Fuzzy-Fuzzy?" The young mare was almost jealous at the black and white curled fur found upon Xaivary's feet. Though she had fuzzy hooves and feathering on her own delicate hooves, it was nothing as spectacular as the black and white stripes found on the 'mutant'.

The noise had snapped Xaivary out of her doze and she quickly canted her head to peer in the direction it was coming from. Simply because it was heading toward her didn't mean something was after her... usually if something was going to come after you it tried not to make so much noise.
Either that or it didn't think it needed to be quiet.
Xaivary was tensed and ready to run if necessary up until the point that she spotted the petite head and unicorn horn appear out of the brush. What followed the head made relaxing muscles nearly go slack in shock. She'd been looking for something unusual, certainly, and this seemed to have met the bill and then some.
The brown mare watched the white walk in apparent oblviousness toward the water at first with confusion, then curiosity, and then when Numielle seemed to note quite suddenly that Xaivary was there with a mild level of amusement. The corners of her mouth quirked slightly at the name she'd been dubbed with. Fitting though it was for her peculiarly furry lower legs and slightly scruffy appearance the innocent tone with which it was spoken was almost enough to ellicit a chuckle from her.
"Numielle?" A lovely and rather musical sounding name for what Xaivary knew was a rather stunning young mare. Once again she was called a "Fuzzy-fuzzy" and the corners of her mouth quirked. "My name is Xaivary."
Four wings, a horn that looked bloodied although there was no scent of blood; it must have been natural. A petite stature and a tufted tail with spikes upon it? Xaivary was not quite certain what she'd found here, and the white mare's peculiar two-toned eyes pressed curiosity further. And how else to satisfy curiosity but to ask questions? "So where did you come from?"

Numielle continued to beam at Xaivary, attempting to remember the strange and exotic name but knowing full well there was a good chance she'd forget. A big chance. She'd be lucky to remember Fuzzy-Fuzzy but seeing as her legs were a constant reminder, the brown mare was going to find out soon that the mutant before her had a memory of a goldfish.
Still, the mare tried to remember the name. . . Xaivary, Xaivary, Fuzzy Xaivary, Fuzzy-Fuzzy. . . Xaivar.....eee. Oh boy. Fuzzy-Fuzzy was just far easier to remember, thanks.
Numielle's spiked tail swished lightly behind her as she watched the other. Now that she had bridged the distance between them she could better investigate her mutations; the checkered scarf around her neck was indeed a strange sort of thing. . . what was its purpose, what did it do, and why didn't she have one?
Oh, oh wait. She wore her necklace given to her by her bestest-best friend! So that was better than any ol' scarf. . . maybe the checkered thing had been given to the other by her absolute bestest-best friend too!? Giggling lightly, her thought processes going a million miles per hour, Numielle had to refocus on the conversation at hand.
Taking a moment, the red-maned mare trotted around Xaivary, better taking in her appearance before she could resist no longer. "Well it's very nice to meet you Fuz . . .er . . . Xaiv. . reeee." Without hesitation, or of course any regard to another's personal space, she had cuddled up close to the brown mare and attempted to give her a sweet nuzzle.
Yes, it was one thing for a foal to do it but a grown adult?
Never had her snuggling been thwarted, not by her family nor by Penance. The young mare couldn't help but assume that the whole world could be healed by cuddles, and everyone would be as appreciative to such contact as her friend.
"I came from the bushes over there," she laughed, turning to glance at the woods she had ambled out of. It didn't occur to her that Xaivary was asking a more specific sort of question, but the brown mare would fast learn that one usually had to spell things out for the mare. . . . Her moments of clarity were few and far between.
((By the way - feel free to have Numielle miss in her snuggles should Xaivary naturally retreat. Don't think that'll stop her from trying again though. ;3 She's just trying to get close enough to nuzzle-cuddle her. ))

Xaivary's own peculiar type of social akwardness normally didn't even register, much less bother, the brown mare. In all honesty she cared very little if she was called "Fuzzy-fuzzy" for the rest of her days by that amusingly innocent voice. The white mare's childish innocense carried far beyond what Xaivary had encountered even in the handful of foals she'd met, however, the fact proving itself when Numi quite suddenly snuggled her.
Xaivy was not particularly for or against the action. It was the sheer fact it had happened that gave her yet another moment of shock, one that nearly caused her to miss Numielle's answer to her question. It was only after several moments of stunned inaction that Xaivary moved away, not quite hastily but not in a very casual manner either.
She couldn't even remember the last time someone she'd actually known for a while tried to do something like that, much less someone she'd just met. That it was obviously done out of some sort of innocent affection that the white mare gave to all was the only reason Xaivary didn't shy away further. As it was Numielle had actually managed to unnerve Xaivary a bit, not a particularly easy feat.
"I meant, uh... the wings and the horn and the spikes. Where you came from originally, not just now. Like... your family." It would probably take a few more tries before Xaivy figured out she'd have to out and ask Numi what she was. And a few more to figure out how to properly deal with Numi and her snuggling attempts.

Numielle wasn't intending to be creepy, nor was she intending to upset the brown scarfed mare before her. But as Xaivary moved away, giving herself some personal space, Numielle could only happily trot after. She didn't understand the concept of 'personal space' nor did she really want to; love and affection and cuddles were what made the world go round, at least the world of Numielle.
White ears pricked with intrigue as her black and blue eyes studied Xaivary. The wings, the horns, the spikes? Her mother had wings and a horn. . .her father had horns and spikes. . . and her sisters had spikes and horns too! But Numielle had all three - wings and horns and spikes~! So that must meant that Xaivary was talking to . . .about. . . . her?
it took a few moments but when Numielle understood the question (sort of) she couldn't help but squeal in delight. Her rump wriggled and her spiked tail swished happily behind her, eyes glowing with delight. "Eeee~! Numielle has wings and a horn and some spikes, oh yes, yes she does! And I got all of them from my parents, oh yes, yes I did." Her smile was genuine and her delight obvious at getting to talk about her most beloved family. "They're kind of shy, and my Mama forgets me sometimes, but she's wings and a skull and a horn! Ezzie-face is just spikes and horns. . . and no fuzz on his tail like mine." Glancing around, she gave the tip of her tail a little shake, just in case Xaivary needed such an example.
"And what about your strangeness? Like the fuzzy-fuzzes on your legs and your scarf and . . Oooooh! You have horns too, oh yes, yes you do!" She stepped forward, peeking at the hat which adorned the other mare, quite curious about the two spikes that came from its top.

Xaivary was a bit at a loss when Numielle simply followed and snuggled right back up to her. She couldn't recall even in the foggiest sense of the word the last time she'd had someone do anything of the sort. Except perhaps for a couple of lost foals she'd kept company once until their parents found them... and then got yelled at for trying to kidnap them until they headbutted their parents to shut them up and explained things... and she'd not gotten so much as a fake apology.
She shook the thoughts from her head and pointedly stepped a small space away from Numi, placing her nose on the white mare's shoulder to keep her still for a moment. "I'm not used to people touching me..." Realising by this point that Numi might not quite get the message from just that statement she added, "If you could maybe hold off on the snuggles a bit? It feels kinda weird for me." Xai was fully expecting Numi to slip. The sweet little mare just gave her that impression. Maybe they could find an equilibrium somewhere inbetween before things got too akward on one side or the other, at least.
Questions about Numielle's background took on a slightly different light for the mare at the light-hearted description of her mother's forgetfulness. She gathered that "Ezzie-face" was Numi's father, at least, and that both parents had some rather unique physical attributes. "Your mom comes back though?" And her father was at least around. "Do they live around here?"
Apparently it was her turn to be queeried about her background after that. "Well... I never knew my dad, but mom didn't have fuzzy legs so I'm guessing they came from him. My mom forgot about me when I was little and she either didn't remember or she didn't care, I guess, since she never came back." She shrugged and then hung her head down and shook it to dislodge her hat. "The horns are part of my hat. It and the scarf and all I've just picked up where-ever. I wander around a lot."
She arranged the hat on the ground then in a rather complicated looking manuever with one of her hooves managed to get it mostly back on her head. One ear was still stuck under the cloth though, and she rubbed the offending side of the hat against a tree until she managed to get her other ear out. Then she shook her head to try and settle the hat down properly. It wasn't as snug as it had been before but... it would do until she could find some bored squirrels or something. She offered Numielle a bit of a lazy grin when she finished. "I like looking different from everyone else. I get to be me instead of... whatever they think I should be." Shrug.

Numielle did understand about unwanted affection, even though she hated being told such a thing. Though her ears flattened slightly at the rebuff, she kept her innocent smile as bright as ever. "Ooooooh - Fluffy-fluffy's like Numi's sissy's~! No time for love time," she acknowledged with a nob and a little shuffle of her wings, taking a small step back with a giggle. "Cuddles can wait." She wasn't upset or offended, despite her desire to continue nuzzling Xaivary. She was as fluffy as her sisters and that pleased her greatly. . . . Instead, careful of her spikes, the pale mare wrapped her tail around her back leg as reassurance all it own.
Thankfully though, the conversation had happily changed to her family. And if there was something the young mutant-angeni loved to prattle about, it was her precious family! Though she couldn't understand that they weren't exactly a happily functioning sort, her adoration for them was genuine and true. "Nimue comes back when she remembers; Ezzie is always trailing her and finding her, yep yep! But she gets awfully forgetful and turned around sometimes. . . Numi has to remind her of who Numi is! They live wherever they find themselves. . . Anywhere is home for them."" Canting her head lightly, allowing her red bangs to fall across her ebony eyes, the mare studied Xaivary.
So she didn't know her father. . .. ? Hnn. . . .And her mother forgot her too!? Just like Nimue! Her mouth formed a light 'o' as Xaivary admitted the lack of ties with her family, and she couldn't help but wriggle her rump in anxiousness. She wanted to snuggle Xaivary because she understood what it was like to have a forgetful mother but now it was her turn to correct her. "Oh, Numi knows deep in her heart that of course your forgetful Mommy cares! She must, oh yes she must! Just cause she forgot doesn't mean she'll never remember or not care. This I know for certain." The vehemence in her voice was apparent, and a stubborness reared its head proving that none could deter the mare from such a belief. She was sheltered but also didn't understand cruelness or neglect. . . even though she herself was a partial victim of such a reality!
It would do no one any good to argue.
White ears pricked with intrigue as Xaivary took off her hat. So the horns were detachable. . . . that was neat. "Well what does everyone think you should be then? A ghost? No no . . . how about a chipmunk or . . a ROCK! You could totally be a boulder if you wanted, yep, yep yep!" The mare giggled at the thought, wondering what life would be like as such a thing. "Being you is a good thing, so long as you're happy. Even if others think you should be a rock."

Xaivary peered at the tail wrapped around her leg thoughtfully for a moment before making herself relax a bit from her urge to shy away at the contact. The tail she could handle. "Not that I don't have time... just... never had anyone snuggle me. It's a... bit much all at once. Tail's okay, though." Perhaps that was a lie... Xaivary's mother had probably snuggled her at one point. Perhaps Numielle was right about her mother caring... but it didn't change the fact that she hadn't come back. Xaivary would never know if she'd been abandoned on purpose or not... and deep down, that would probably bother her for the rest of her life. Not that she ever really let that sort of thing show.
"So your family just... lives where ever they wind up, huh? I guess I do that too. A lot of people have a place they go back to..." She shrugged. "Do you just live where ever too, or do you have a special place you like to stay at?" Xaivary wasn't always this talkative, or this interested in another Soquili. But Numielle's peculiar but appealing looks and demeanor made her feel much more at ease... as well as the way she took Xaivary's behaviors and admissions about her past in stride. Honey had been kind and hadn't seemed bothered with Xaivary's peculiarities, but there had been no real sharing of pasts exchanged. Numi opened up and shared without a second thought, and it was so very easy to respond to. It was inspiring, really, if not something Xaivary would ever do herself.
"A rock?" Xaivary cocked her head at that and then chuckled. "Well I suppose they did want me to be a rock. Quiet in the background somewhere not really doing anything. The people I grew up around wanted to be able to ignore me... and rocks are easy to ignore if you're not paying attention." She looked around to make sure no one was listening, though it was rather for show, and then leaned over a bit to whisper confidentially. "Serves them right for being so stuffy and stubborn. They've missed out on some awesome looking rocks, if I do say so myself."
