It was a dull, rainy sort of day, and Lacy was very bored. Cressida had dropped her off at the library for Story Time, but it had failed to hold her interest. Wandering around amid the towering bookshelves and contemplating trying to find some Dr. Seuss, Lacy gave a great heaving three-year-old sigh. She. Was. Bored.

This would of been Saedah's first trip to a library and she loved it. Even though there were lots of people here they were all quiet, with whispers or just being silent. No one bothered you nor really looked at you. She loved to read, and after timidly asking her father to get more books he had brought her here. He had explained that he would need to register her for a library card and thus she needed to stay within the vicinity.
At first...she didn't like the idea of leaving his side, but ...she could still see him in the line up...so it wasn't really all that bad. Slithering up to a table she noticed a bunch of discarded books there. Moving her hair out of her eyes she reached over timidly and picked up one of the books and flipped it open. She soon put it back down. Too many big words she didn't understand where in that one.

Wandering into the airy lobby of the library, Lacy stifled a yawn and spun around in a slow circle. Mama had said she'd be back in an hour, so that gave Lacy lots of time to do absolutely nothing. Tail dragging a bit across the floor, she wandered to a book-burdened table and picked up a much-abused copy of Gray's Anatomy.
"There's insidey-out people in this book," she said clearly to the little girl right next to her. "Lookit."

Saedah had been so absorbed in the next book she had flipped open she nearly jumped as suddenly someone spoke to her. She looked over her eyes wide before she forced herself to calm down . It was only a little girl beside her...one showing her something inside of a book.
Shifting she tried not to appear uncomfortable by the girls presence or the fact that she was being shown the insides of people.
"Ah..w..why..d..on..t you look a..t this book with me?" She inquired trying to not stare at the rather description image of a humans lungs. She timidly offered the book she had been looking at. It was a simple child's nursery rhyme book. Full of sing song tales for children. She liked humming them to herself and it had pictures too.

Lacy looked from the sweet, innocent pictures in her neighbors book to the precise medical illustrations in her own. The other girl's book looked less interesting, but hey.
" 'kay," she said, setting Gray's Anatomy aside and sitting closer to the girl, propping her elbows on the table. "I know thiss'un. Iss 'Mary Hadda Lil' Lamb'."
Wiping her nose on her sleeve, she realized she had forgotten to introduce herself. Mama always said the best way to make friends was jump right in and be friendly.
"My name's Lacy, whuss yours?"

Saedah watched if a bit nervously as the girl looked at her as well moved to be closer. She shifted again but realized she would need to be closer to read the book. She nodded her head as she mentioned Mary had a Little lamb.
"Yes...it..is a good one.. do..do you know this song?" She asked pointing to the song on the next page which was Ring around the Rosey. She then swallowed a bit offering a very small smile to the girl.
"I..I am Saedah.." she murmured.

"Uh...I thin' so. Rin' a-roun' the ros-ee, po...po...paw-fits fulla posies...ashes, ashes we all faw'down. I think."
Giving Saedah a small smile of her own, Lacy pointed at the girl's tail.
"You don't have legs. How come?"

A bit starteled at the question she looked down on instinct she then looked to Lacy a moment in confusion. Was it really that strange she didn't have legs? Coiling about herself suddenly feeling rather self conscious she gave a shrug.
"I...always looked like this.." She replied with a murmur putting the book down and rubbing an arm wondering if that was a bad thing looking as she did. She then looked over Lacy and pointed a bit timidly at her tail.
"...Why..do..you have..a..t..tail?" She inquired curiously. She liked Lacy's colors too...even if it was only black and white...it was still pretty.

Lacy nodded attentively, intrigued. Not having legs was a bit odd, but hey, whatever. Lacy was certain Saedah would be an excellent swimmer, just like an eel. At the question, Lacy looked back at her tail and shrugged.
" 'Cause. I like it. An' I think you're pretty, you look like a candy-cane."

She guessed that made sense. She had a tail because she liked it...didn't really explani why she had it in the first place but...ah well. The little cornsnake girl blushed at the compliment. She wasn't use to getting them, sure a lot of people stared at her...but she always had thought that was a negative thing.
She gave a meak smile, "Hehe...that's..b..because I am a Can..dy Cane ..cornsnake.." She replied shifting a bit. "THat's...what my papa told me..anyway.." She continued she looked over her shoulder to make sure her father was still within eye shot. He was...still stuck in the line up... She tried not to sigh.
"D..do you know what..what..you are?" She stuttered a bit.

Cornsnake?
"But you're not made'a corn," Lacy said, looking puzzled. "Silly."
At the question, Lacy giggled modestly.
"I'm a or...orrrr...or-ka. Orca! Imma whale," she said importantly. She held up her hands and bared her teeth for extra effect."Grrrrrawr!"

Saedah shied away from the bared teeth, it had starteled her. But at least she wasn't trying to hide under the table.
"..I...I know..I ..am not made of corn...that...is..is just what...the..snake...is c..called." She murred trying to refrain from the urge to bolt. She didn't like being starteled like that.
"B.ut...ar..n't whales...n...nice?" she inquired perhaps a bit rudely. But from what books she had been looking in whales were very docile.

"Not me," Lacy said importantly. "I eats people. Or...um...I eats hotdogs. And hamm'urgers!"
She grinned brightly at Saedah, deeply pleased with herself. She was a big scary whale. Grr!

Saedah raised the book to basically try and hide half of her face. Eat people? Did she really mean that? Quivering a bit the poor corn snake girl only trembled more.
"D..o...you.....will...you...e..eat...me.?" She inquired fearfully, she didn't want to get eaten....no not at all. She was just getting use to this being out and about thing. Her gaze flickered in a frantic manner to her father who only inched barely up in the line. Should she go get him? She chewed on her lower lip..

"You're not a fishy," Lacy said testily. "Or a seal. Or a cow, unless you moo, but even then you're not a cow. I won't eat you."
She threw her hands up in the air, looking greatly put-upon.
"I's just jokin'! I don't eat f'ends, thass not nice."
