The water rippled, the sun shining down, shimmering on the surface while waves crashed up against the shore. Hoof prints were scattered about the sandy surface, showing how many horses frequently visited the area. Today the area seemed to be abandoned, all the horses that normally wandered about the area seemed to be busy elsewhere. The only sound that could be heard was the crashing of waves across the sand and the call of seagulls overhead. A quiet day, certainly, but it was peaceful instead of an awkward silence, as if everything had been perfectly placed and the scenery was put together to please. Though, the silence didn't last forever, because before long there was the sound of hooves sinking in the soft sand.
Vieno had woken up this morning without the slightest idea of what she was going to do this day but as the day progressed she'd found herself weaving her way to the beach. Doing so hadn't been a disappointment, for her breath had been taking from her the moment she laid eyes on the place. She'd come here often in the past, and every time was a new experience, the scent, the sight, even the sound was relaxing. It was the perfect place to come to think, or even just to spend the rest of the day doing nothing. Vieno didn't feel she really had anything to think about, so she decided to gaze at the seagulls and smile as they squawked at each other.
Yes, today had been a rather uneventful day but that didn't bother the smiling mare, she was quite content gazing about the beach. One didn't have to accomplish something every day, taking a day to relax wasn't all that wrong, was it? Lately so many things had happened to her, she'd met many different beings with many different personalities. Some were pleasant, some weren't what she expected and others she hadn't really gotten to know at all. All in all, it was safe to say, today she was deserving of relaxation and an uneventful day, some time to herself to do nothing at all.

Ah, the sunrise. The time where the gorgeous orange sphere rises from the horizon, spreading out its radiant light. During Alitair's many travels around the world (or what he felt was most of the world), his favorite parts of each day was watching the sunrise and watching the sunset. It was a truthfully beautiful sight to behold - especially in an already gorgeous location such as the beach. But what was perhaps even more beautiful was the mare standing at the beach.
Her long silky platinum blonde hair complimenting her beautifully natural dappled body. Alitair could stand and stare at this mare for hours. Perhaps he had deprived himself from the attention of a mare for too long - but Alitair wasn't quite sure. Even if he had spent time with mares during his voyages, he still felt that none would be able to compare to the beauty of this mare. Her beauty stuck out against the gorgeous setting. Alitair tried to capture the image in his mind: the image of pure perfection.

The mare had been so caught up in the scenery that she failed to notice the stallion there with her. She'd been peering across the water at a few rocks poking out of the ocean. It seemed the gulls had some sort of nest there sitting on the ridges, perhaps they were squawking about eggs in their nests. Well, if there were even eggs over there. Shaking her head, she finally looked away, sometimes she thought about things too much, wasn't very good when her mind wandered off. It was then that she noticed the stallion, and as rude as it was... she stared.
He was a handsome stallion, hair long and silky, so long that it actually touched the ground. Her hair was also long, but not quite as long as that. Peering curiously at him she let herself gaze at his entirety until she came upon his eyes. They were steel blue in color and soft, gentle, so unlike many expressions she'd come across before. Then, realizing she'd been staring for so long she flushed and looked down at the sand. Had he noticed she'd been staring at him, if he had, did he mind? She wasn't sure what to say or do at that point, she felt a bit foolish, looking at someone like they were the most amazing thing to walk the earth.
After a long, awkward silence, the mare slowly lifted her head, making sure not to stare straight at him. In a soft voice, one revealing her obvious embarrassment she said, "Uhm... hello, I'm sorry..." With that, her head dropped again and she fixed her gaze on a shell not too far away. She readjusted her weight, shuffling her hooves nervously and continued to feign interest in the beautiful shell that she barely noticed.

Alitair didn't know how to react - she was looking back at him. He didn't know whether to say something or do something or just stand still. He spent so much time thinking about what to do that he resulted in simply doing nothing. That is, until she spoke. She apologized, but for what? He had been staring at her as well. Should he ease her discomfort and accept her apology, letting her know that he was staring at her as well - or would that be too awkward? Instead, Alitair simply gave a light smile.
What was he thinking, he needed to do more than that. He needed to say something back, at the very least. "No worries," he said softly. "A lovely sight, isn't it?" He paused. "The sunrise, that is. Its lovely?" He was making a fool of himself already, only after a few short sentences. Alitair should have practiced socializing with beautiful mares more during his travels.

I hadn't bothered him! What a relief that was, although she still felt fairly guilty, where did she get off staring like that? Well, it was over now, she had no need to worry, she'd come here to get away from her worries, hadn't she? A relaxing day on the beach, that'd been the whole reason she'd come, hadn't it? Why was she stressing? Why was she so worried and why was she asking herself so many questions? Instead of continuing her self interrogation she sighed and nodded her head slowly. "Oh yes, beautiful," she replied absentmindedly and stared up at the sky as if to prove her point. The sun was beautiful, yes, the sky around it many hues of amazing colors and yet it all compiled to make one breath-taking scene. Oh yes, the sunrise was absolutely beautiful.
The mare's flaxen mane ruffled in the breeze and she sighed, it wasn't like she could ever keep it in one place anyhow. Instead of flipping her head to tame her mane slightly, like she normally would have done, she ignored it, hoping the stranger didn't mind enjoying such a moment with a messy mare. Why was she even worried, it wasn't like she'd cared about that any other time. As long as the hair was out of her face she was happy and well, it wasn't exactly out of her face but she didn't want to bother. Worrying, she was worrying again. Taking another deep breath, she stood at the side of the beach, no longer thinking, just staring up at the sky. Well... until a seagull flew by and screeched, breaking the silence.
She giggled a bit at the bird and turned to look at the stallion once again, "Y'know... I wonder what attracts seagulls to the sea, is it the same as us maybe... the peacefulness, the scenery...? ..or is it something less marvellous and more of something we take for granted such as the water?" She stopped herself quickly then and looked at the stallion, quite bashful, "I'm sorry... I ramble on a lot... don't I?" She seemed to ask that a lot, but so far, no one had been rude enough to tell her she did.

Why are seagulls attract to the sea? Well. That wasn't something that Alitair had normally thought about. Alitair didn't mind though, he liked it when his mind was tested and had to answer questions, even ones he wasn't sure about. It got him thinking, gave him a challenge - and Alitair loves a good challenge. "Perhaps the same reason we are attracted to the sea?" suggested Alitair. He gave a moment for the mare to fill in her own answer, before finishing his thought verbally. "-- the beauty."
He smiled softly at her, then looked out to the horizon to hide his broader smile. Her beauty overpowered his control a tad, he couldn't help but stare and smile when he looked at her. He then gazed back at her, relinquishing some body control. "My name is Alitair. And what is your name, if I may ask?"

Quickly forgetting the seagulls after he replied, Vieno nodded at his name and gave him a shy smile. "My name's Vieno, it's a pleasure to meet you Alitair!" she exclaimed, happily. Oh yes, it certainly was a pleasure to make his acquaintance, she loved making new friends. Determined not to start another staring contest, the mare lowered her head and peered down at the imprints left by her hooves in the sand. It wasn't all that interesting to gaze down at but for some odd reason she was feeling a bit shy, odd, because she rarely was this shy. Her mind was slightly jumbled, she had no idea what to say next and because of this she kept her maw firmly closed, afraid she might accidentally say something strange.
Awkward was the only word that came to mind, for normally her mind was clear, full of curiosity and questions. Questions were filling her mind alright, but they were a mass jumble of words she didn't quite know how to sort through. Why was she suddenly feeling so strange, was she ill, had she caught some strange sickness here on the shore? That seemed impossible, so she decided to try her best to ignore it and continue about her day with a somewhat jumbled mind. "I uh... seashells they're sandy.. pretty! I meant pretty!" she tried to say, stumbling over her words as she looked back up at him. Oh, this was silly, why was she acting strange all of a sudden?
Taking a deep breath helped a bit, it cleared her mind and gave her a chance to think. This time, she made more sense when she spoke, "Seashells I mean, they're beautiful... would you like to search for some?" Oh did she sound silly? What sort of grown mare went seashell hunting? She had to learn to think before speaking. "Er... I mean, let's not, let's do something... something else." she sighed and blew some of the hair out of her eyes. If she kept this up, she was going to spend the rest of the day alone...

Alitair chuckled a bit, not laughing at Vieno in a cruel way, but finding her behavior to be adorable. He hadn't gone seashell hunting since he was a foal, but it certainly sounded like something that would be fun to experience again. "No, no, it doesn't sound silly," Alitair said, taming his laughter. "It actually sounds like a lovely way to spend the evening."
Alitair made his way closer to the shoreline and began to walk along it for a few steps, before stopping and turning back to Vieno with a smile. "So, Vieno, shall we?"

She felt like a foal again, searching for seashells along the oceanside! Well, she'd never really done that as a foal because as far as she knew she never lived near the ocean but she and her mother had once searched the pathway for special rocks. The mare recalled finding a special rock that she'd carried around for days or well, until her mother finally told her it was going to break her teeth carrying a rock around. She sighed a bit, looking longingly out at the ocean as she thought about her mother, for she missed her quite dearly. Luckily, it was only a short pause until Vieno piped up and smiled, "This will be so much fun!"
Okay, she realized she was being a bit childish but she figured everybody needed a day to relive their childhood. There was nothing wrong with spending the day on the beach... looking at shells. Well, even if it wasn't proper, at this point she didn't care, the kind stallion had agreed to accompany her which was incredibly nice of him. A happy sigh escaped the mare as she glanced over at Alitair, she'd never had a friend she felt so comfortable with and... in such a short time.
Picking up a bit of speed, Vieno trotted past Alitair and scanned the beach, a gleeful expression on her face. She was just like a child, racing about to find the greatest treasure on the beach. Treasure hunting at its finest! It may have not been gold glistening in the sand, but to Vieno it was exactly the same. A brown shell with a pinkish hue called to her and she examined it carefully with the tip of her nose. "Look at this one!" she called excitedly, "It's so... beautiful.."
