The jacketed male snoozed uunder the shade of the tree as the sun beamed down upon the land. Pearl had demanded he stay out of the den,and it had seemed like forever. It had nearly been a whole week, and the male was tired of being outside. He hated the sun. But today he dozed peacefully, letting the days breeze cool him as he hid from the sun in the shade.
His breathing was deep, soothing, and he wished Pearl had been next to him to cuddle with..But the babies had arrived, and she had been doting on them with everything she had.
Soon he'd get let in, till then, he'd sleep.
____
They had grown quite a bit since they had been born, one week ago. Their clams had arrived, and when Pearl had felt the time for them to open, she had sent their father outside, into the sun to wait.
But Cecily was still snoozing next to her mother, sleeping deeply and peacefully. Since their arrival, she had done nothing really more than sleep.
Her blonde locks tickled her cheek, and she stirred, giving a pout with her eyes closed, and sneezing. Her eyes blinked open, and she looked around her, for anything interesting.

Pearl awoke to the stirrings of her youngest, a beautiful little female named Cecily, and she smiled softly before drawing her daughter close. "Good morning, my sweet. Are you ready to meet your papa today?" she asked softly before glancing over at her other pups. Sure enough, though, Cecily's twin brother William was not where the young mother had left him. She looked around and found him in one corner, idly batting at a stray feather from their nest. William was and probably always would be the first to rise, whether he was diurnal or nocturnal. He had rolled from the snuggle-pile some minutes earlier, and upon finding nothing better to do had found a feather and began to play with it, of a sort. What he really wanted to do was meet his papa for the first time, to see the outer world. He had no idea that it would just be his father returning to the den, no going outside. When his mother spoke, he looked up and stumbled back over, blinking. "Papa? We get to go see Papa today?"

Spike waited nervously outside, getting this sinking feeling that anytime now, his mate would emerge, and those babies that she had been harboring were finally here.. Well, he knew they were here, he had heard their welps in the first few days..Those had quickly been replaced with giggles and games of tag, or so it sounded.
Pacing a bit, he kept casting his gaze to the front of their den, and waited anxiously.
The little blonde female blinked sleepily up at her mother, cocking her head and looking at her with wide innocent eyes..Eyes, that one day would prove to be the eyes of a pure spitfire, not the innocent angel she potrayed.
She had no knowledge of good and bad, right or wrong, and had spent her days, however few they may have been, playing with her siblings and learning the scent of her mother.
"Papa? We're meeting him today?" She asked, voice soft and childlike. Her face looked to her brother, and she smiled..Somehow she had a knack of stealing his lines and not knowing it. "Sorry Willy."

Melantha sat quietly running her small claws through her hair and watching her mother and siblings. She was a curious but quiet cub, rarely did words escape her unless she had given them some measure of thought. She had made it clear that she deeply disliked nicknames and while she held tender affection for her brother and sister she was in no way a doting elder sister.
She stopped mussing her hair and sat still watching her mother with a questioning look crossing her young face. She was eager to meet her father and more then eager to examine the world around her. She might have shown more energy or cracked a smile if her throat didn't burn with a strange thirst.

Pearl smiled and nodded her head slowly. "Indeed you are, my darlings. We can't stay outside for long, but I do believe long enough to get you something to eat and spend some time outside with your father," she said quietly, as her natural volume usually was. It was obvious where Melantha got her quiet manner. Spike was so much more... open and... outspoken, that was the word. But she loved him anyways. "Come on now, then," she said, standing and heading towards the back entrance to the den, the one that didn't involve swimming. She worried about her pups. She knew Spike had an aversion to sunlight, but she wasn't quite sure about their offspring. They would be careful. She walked up and poked her head out of the hole, carefully concealed by bushes. "Spike?" she called out quietly, before she noticed him beneath the tree, smiling as she made her way out and towards him, glancing back once to make sure Melantha, William, and little Cecily were following.
William frowned at his twin. "You're such a copy-cat, Cec," he hissed when their mother started walking towards the non-watery exit. But after sticking his tongue out at her, he took off after Mother, nuzzling his older sister when he past her.
Coming out into the sun was not fun. Not. At. All. It was bright and hot and, well, it looked like he'd be a night-otter like his father. Speaking of, the only thing that made coming out into that god-awfully bright world was seeing his father for the first time. He was blond, though William had known that. His mother had told him Cecily and he had gotten their blond hair from their father, among other things. But it didn't change the thrill of seeing him for the first time. "Father!" he called and scampered past his mother towards the male lounging in the shade of one of the many trees around them.

The male perked his head, upon hearing his mates soft voice above the waters rushing around him. His ears perked, and he stood quickly, looking around her, hoping to see some clue of the babies.
When he didnt see them at first, he grew somewhat worried. What if they were ill, or some didnt survive?
"Pearl?" He said, walking from under the shade and smiling at his mate.
Thats when he saw the blonde boy that had almost tackled him under the tree. He smiled, using his paw to rough up the boys long, tied back mane of hair.
"Lookit you! Youre a chip off the ol' block." He said with a gleam in his eyes.
Looking to Pearl he smiled. "Howe many you got back there?"
--
Cecily grumbled at her brother, sticking her tongue out at him as well with a glare. She hadnt meant to copy him! Why couldnt she be just as excited to see daddy as he was?
But she quickly shrugged it off, scampering around Melantha, and looking from under her mothers belly.
The daylight was not what she would callpleasant, and she reeled back when the first rays hit her eyes. She had not been expecting that. She pawed at her mothers dress.
"Mommy, myeyes burn."

Melantha refused to fully exit the den, she knew her siblings had rushed out but she felt the heat and the sting in her eyes and recoiled right away. She waited patiently at the entrance of the den shaded and safe until her father would come to her.
She didn't doubt that he would come, that he loved her, because she already loved him and mother and her siblings. She would never hurt them, even if they did smell heavenly delicious. She pushed the thought away and focused back outside of the den where her two younger siblings embraced their father. Her eyes narrowed and she made out his shape, her ears perked to catch his voice. Melantha gave a slight smile the edge of her mouth quirking upwards and her heart warming at the sound of her family all together.

"Aw, I'm sorry my sweet. Here, go into the shade with your papa," Pearl replied, nudging Cecily into the shade of the tree. She looked back over her shoulder again to see that her eldest still hadn't left the den entrance. "Just three, you silly bat, and you should know that," she called to her mate over her shoulder, accidentally rhyming before she sighed and walked over to where Melantha had gotten left behind. She had hoped that her children would not have developed Spike's adversity to the sunlight, but it looked like she had hoped in vain. It would seem that it was attached to what she had learn to refer to as vampirism. She had thought about asking Spike to turn her, but it had yet to come up and she often forgot. "Don't like the sun, my dear? Would you like to wear my hat to shade you?" Pearl asked her Melantha, removing the large pink thing from her head, an article of clothing that had amused both her and Spike upon their first... or was it second meeting.
William grinned at his father's words and even at the ruffling of his hair. He DID look just like his father! And that made him exceedingly proud. Well, except for his hair length, but he liked his long. He hadn't seen his papa before, and he didn't recall his mama leaving the den, so he wondered briefly if his papa knew their names. Speaking of, where was Mel? He looked over his shoulder to see his mother at the den entrance, no doubtably talking to a hiding Mel. "Come on, Melantha! The sun's not bad when you get in the shade!" he called out to her, grinning his charmingly fanged grin.

Cecily loved her mother. She had truly been a fan of mother since birth, adn she longed to be just like her..Though the spitfire side of miss Cecily got to her, and was good at getting her in trouble.
"Thanks momma." She said, hiding in the shade, and pulling on Spikes coat. She giggled when he picked her up, cuddling her, and smiling.
She had the blonde locks of father, yet seh had the soft features like her mother. Though her two pointed fangs were enough to show her lineage..At least on her fathers side.
He looked backto his boy and smiled again. But his eyes went to the den, and one figure, a firey redhead was still inside.
He didnt want to walk out to retrieve the cub, as he wasnt fond of the sun weither, and was rather sensitive.
"Is her name Melantha then?" He asked William smiling. "Melantha, pet, come out here and meet your ol'dad."
Then he turned back to William and Cecily. "What are your names, little ones?"

Melantha eyed the hat a moment before sighing and pushing it aside. She ran her claws through her wild red hair and looked at her father for a long moment. Part of her wanted to retreat back into the safety of the den and avoid the harsh light of day.
Instead she scampered out and rushed into the shadows with a soft hiss, her fur felt scorched though outwardly it showed no such sign. "Hello Papa..." She murmured softly and kept her eyes down, the dullish red brown could sometimes be called chocolate, but she was so hungry that her eyes gleamed with a fierce red color.
She gave a light nuzzle beaneth her fathers chin before backing up a bit to let the twins take the spotlight and avoid it herself.

"Momma named her Cecily," William said as he pointed to his twin, sitting so that he could pull his tail around and nibble on the tip childishly. He flicked his bangs into his eyes so that he didn't have to deal with too much sun getting into them. He probably suffered the least from it out of his siblings, but his eyes were probably the most sensitive. The world was too bright and it was going to give him a headache soon. "And my name's William!" he added, grinning at his father, his fangs flashing in the light of the day.
Pearl sighed as her poor baby ran out into the sunlight. It hurt her to know that her poor babies would have trouble with the sunlight, but then that just meant that they'd have to be nocturnal. Which was why it was silly that she had picked the afternoon for them to first leave the den. She'd just have to make it up to them by taking them on a nice trip to the good pie-mistress' shop. It'd be nice to give the good Father a visit, too. She hadn't seen his lovely trio since they first came out of their clams.
She approached and nuzzled Spike fondly. "I hope life out here wasn't too bad, my love," she said cheerily as she sat near him and smiled before she pulled Melantha to her. She gave something of a purr as she combed her daughter's hair with her claws.
