 With a sigh, Michio turned away from the gravelly stream bed. "No luck here," he commented, seemingly to himself. A small blue head popped up from behind a boulder and chittered in response. The chi'lin frowned, then stepped over to take a closer look at the pebble the young red panda was holding up in its paws. "No, that's not jade," he said after a moment, "just a pretty rock," he added dryly, and started to climb the steeply sloping bank of the stream.
Pausing at the top, he glanced back down. "Well, are you coming?" His companion chittered again, in what was a apparently a negative tone. Michio sighed. "You can bring the rock, if you want." Whether it understood or not, the red panda jumped out from behind it's rock, and scampered up the slope after the chi'lin. Dropping the rock in order to run unemcumbered, it darted around his legs and tried to pounce on his tail. Michio flicked said appendage out of the creature's reach and glared at it. "Come on then, if you're coming."

 Delicately picking her way through the smooth stones, the emerald chi'lin lifted her head for a moment looking around as her claws turned over yet another...not-jade rock. Sighing she shook her head, her tail flicking and the emerald-olive plume wavered in the slight breeze as she moved onto another part of the stream bed.
"Hunting all day and not a single piece of jade. Turning...tossing...plucking...picking... Turning...toss-" Blinking her blue-green eyes drifted to something glittering green in the light. "Hrm...what do we have here?" Carefully turning the glittering thing over, a grin flashed across her maw. "Jade! Finally! And here I was thinking of giving up too!" Giving an amused laugh she tossed her head as she began looking around the area to see if there were anymore wayward shards of the precious stone.

The breeze carried the sound of a female's voice and laughter to Michio's sharp ears. When he turned around, squinting down the shallow valley for a sight of her, he saw a green chi'lin eyeing the ground around her closely. In context, that meant only one thing - she had found jade.
The blue chi'lin frowned to himself, rather annoyed that she had spotted what he had apparently missed. With a sigh, he set off towards her, half-running along the top of the bank. As he drew level, he peered down the slope. Closer now, he could see the diamond patterns down her back and tail, but he still had to squint slightly to make out details and facial features, so he didn't bother. Mustering a polite smile to cover his irritation, he asked, "You found jade?"
It seemed that while he was content to wait at the top of the bank, the red panda that had taken to accompanying him was not, and had dashed off to start scampering around the female's feet. Michio sighed, and offered her an apologetic look.
