It was, in Kannon's opinion, a good day.
She was far from her family, the skies were clear, but the sun not too scorching. The breeze was gentle and tugged at her paws, which were curled up next to her body, as if she was sleeping...except she wasn't. Kannon was on her back, just enjoying her freedom and the knowledge she and Hisoka were safe. Safe from their father, and safe from each other...He'd gone North, she'd gone South.
The lioness sighed happily and rolled onto her right side. It was a good day to be alive.

Oh and what a day to be alive! Birds singing and winging though the heavens, the gentle zephyrs twirling the grasses of the savanna into ripples and waves like those of a sea. The distant bleat of the antelope as they leapt over the land, as free as the clouds so high above.
It was such a fine day in fact that Bombei had set out early, intending to enjoy the good weather to its fullest. Alas, fine days like this were grand inspiration, and before long his head was off in the clouds, chasing gods and demons, princes and evil lords...in other words, making up stories. He'd a few new ones in the works, and he was driven to distraction by them whenever he thought about how they'd go. Even when he was walking. So it was only slightly surprising when he stumbled, feet coming to something hard...hard and large and certainly alive, sprawled in the grass.
He tripped, he twisted, and he fell, somehow miraculously managing NOT to squash the lioness he'd nearly walked right onto. He ate dirt for a moment but was on his feet in a flash. Not in anger though, and his ears perked forward with interest, and a little urge to show he'd meant no hard. "I'm so sorry my dear, I'm afraid I wasn't looking where I was going. You are alright, I hope?" His words were sincere, and he bobbed in gracious eagerness to be assured that Kannon was, for now at least, not harmed by his clumsiness.

Well...it had been a good day. Kannon yelped as something tripped over her, nearly falling on her. Once the thing had passed over her, she was on her feet, fur on end from fright. And then annoyance.
A male. Why did it have to be a MALE.
She sat, forcing her fur down. No use in letting a MALE get to her. He would only win in that case. Calm and collected...yes, that was the way to be.
"You certainly weren't watching. It's rather hard to miss a black form in this gold grass." She wouldn't strike out...but she could use words. She was good with words against males, if her half-brothers' reactions were any indication. "I will be fine." She looked over herself quickly. "No lasting injury."

Bombei had to laugh at Kannon's reaction. "Ahh, you're right of course." He smiled, fully amused with the whole thing. "You're quite noticeable, I promise." He looked up again, watching clouds drift together and apart again. "I was thinking of a story, and I'm afraid I got a bit distracted by it, you'll have to forgive me." He directed his smiling gaze back at the female. It was a shame she was in such a bad mood, she seemed the type to much prefer being happy. He felt rather abashed to realize his stumble had caused such irritation.
"I'm glad to hear you're not injured. I wouldn't have ever been able to forgive myself if you'd come to harm because of my clumsiness." He raised a paw to inspect it and half-mumbled, "I really should try to break that old habit. Thinking and walking isn't working out, though after so many years you'd think I'd have gotten the hang of it..."
Suddenly remembering his manners he dropped the offending paw and dipped in a sort of sitting-bow. "Ah, how rude of me. I'm Bombei, and it's a pleasure to meet you." He then sat back, to wait for her reply in patient, benign silence.

A...story? The stupid male had been thinking of a story, when he knew he had problems thinking of such things and paying attention at the same time?! Ugh...Males just could not see past their own noses, could they? She sighed mentally.
But she stayed on guard. He was...acting sweet. Too sweet in her opinion. What did he want...
"I am Kannon." She smirked. "And it would take more than a male tripping over me to incapacitate me."

Bombei nodded his agreement, looking Kannon over. His gaze wasn't lecherous, or sketchy in any way. Just a basic assessment, nothing more, nothing less. Her colors reminded him of smoke, from a fire against the night. Ahh but he was waxing poetic again. Best save that for his stories. "I believe it." He offered. "You seem quite capable."
She also seemed upset for some reason. Moreso than usual. Hmm. "Is there anything I can do to apologize?" He wondered aloud. "I feel like I've made you upset, though I can't figure exactly why. I would hate to move on, thinking you'd been really bothered by me...though of course, if that's what you'd prefer, I can go." He would at least try to appease her before taking off, of course. It was the right thing to do, after all.

Kannon blinked, completely caught off guard. Nothing...he wanted nothing more than to figure out what he'd done wrong so he could apologize. For a moment, she lost her grace and looked as if she wanted to say something...but couldn't figure it out. After that moment, she regained herself and sighed.
"I am sorry. With the exception of one other besides yourself, I have not met a male who was not arrogant, lying, or out for something else." Kannon was blunt and to the point. "It is because of those males I was annoyed with you...Better safe than sorry."

A flicker of concern crossed Bombei's face. "That is a true pity. I can assure you, not all males are as bad as some. Unfortunately it does seem easier to find the bad than the good. I'm sorry that you were brought to this state of thinking by one of my own gender." He did not ask if or how she had been wronged. That was personal information that she would share if she wanted, but he wouldn't press her for it.
More assured now he stood and ambled a little closer, sitting again nearby, but not too close. "That's completely understandable. It's like being kicked the first time you try to hunt a wildebeest. It makes it hard to try again. But I assure you, we really aren't all bad." He smiled and rolled over, his fluffy mane spilling in all directions and making a rather showy mess in the process. "And if I'm proved wrong, well than you can come back and...and sit on me! Or whatever you'd like." Perhaps a bit of humor to lighten the mood? A shame, he wasn't nearly so good with jokes as he was with stories.

Well...at least this one knew how to take things in stride. The last male she'd told why she was so annoyed...He'd taken it rather personally. Perhaps this one was one of the few like her beloved half-brother. "I do try to be polite...and I wouldn't be as...harsh...to a cub. It's as you said...It's hard to trust after getting kicked down."
She chuckled at his offer. "Hm...tempting. But I think I'd settle for a good 'I told you so'." Kannon gave a slight smile. "You are a different sort of male indeed."

"For being so skeptical of males, you really are quite kind, that I've seen. An admirable feat, if you ask me. It does seem that males cause a good more trouble than females. There are very few female villains in stories, you know. Most of the bad forces in the tales I know are males." Bombei eventually rolled back over, though his rather fluffy, not to mention pudgy form made the effort almost not worth it.
"Very well then. If you find that all males are bad, feel free to find me at any time and give me a good 'I told you so'." He laughed. Now that she was calm, Kannon seemed quite likable. "And I try to be different. For a lion in general, I'm different, I suppose. No pride now or ever, but I've traveled more than most know exists. I'm a storyteller after all." He winked.

Kannon nodded. "I...try to be better than the one who supposedly raised me." She frowned. "He was an unrelenting, idiotic dungmuncher with not a kind bone in his body if you weren't like him." And despite her dislike for males...Kannon was far from that. Or so she hoped. She chuckled. "Perhaps he would fit into one of your tales. He certainly plays the overlord quite well."
Her frown had turned into a polite smile. "I shall...though that's becoming less likely the more you talk." If nothing else, he was quite intelligent...if a bit absentminded when it came to the world around him. "Stories shouldn't be bound to a single place...it just doesn't seem right. Though I myself will probably settle in a pride one day...it is good you've chosen the path that does not lead to just one pride." Yes...this was a male she could tolerate.

Bombei nodded. "You are. Better than him, I mean. You have a right to be cautious, but given someone not in line with those cautions, you are not unkind." He smiled. "At least, so it seems. And I agree, I could make a story of you if you want. Or if you'd let me."
Bombei let out a full hearty laugh. "I suppose I never realized, that for that to happen I'd have to be a bad male too, which would defeat the purpose of telling me so. I hope you can find the right pride, I honestly do. Maybe one day I'll come and tell the story of...hmm, a fair lioness and her wicked captor?" He winked, quite comfortable by now.

Kannon's smile turned a little more true than polite. "Thank you. And...it would be nice to know my story is being told. But if you choose to tell it...I ask only one thing. Do not tell how cautious the lioness became of males. It is not a path easily traveled, and I fear many young ones may get the wrong idea." SHE had become wary of males...it did not mean every female must be as wary as her.
Oh certainly, some measure of caution was ALWAYS good...but her path was her path, and the path of her future daughters when she finally would have cubs. But others deserved to choose their own paths.
She nodded. "Perhaps...and if I do not find one, I shall still find you one day, to hear the story you weave."

Bombei nodded. "Of course. If you like, I can change all the names too...but that won't be hard, seeing as of those involved I only know yours anyway." It would make a good tale...he'd skirted female-dominant lands before, and the thought of telling such a story there brought on a mixed feeling. It could easily be a story that caused good or bad, so he would have to tell it wisely.
"I would like that." His tone was honest and warm. For all her caution she was a nice lioness, and he enjoyed her company. "I would be glad to weave you a tale any time. Even if you do find a pride to stay in, feel free to always seek me out. For all that I'm not in any place too long, I should be easy to trail."

Kannon kept her smile. "You need only change one name...and I think you'll find fitting names for the rest." She was glad she'd found someone to tell her story...and she had a feeling he would tell it right. Aside from the little bit she asked him to leave out.
"You are rather easy to spot..." She couldn't help but laugh. "Just follow the trail of tripped over lionesses." There was no malice or resentment in her voice now...only good humor. She could relax this once.
