I was taught to knit when I was about 12. I hated it. I had four needles and bleh. Then, my Oma showed me the wonderful world that is crochet. I love to crochet, though I don't do it as much as I should. So - do you knit or crochet and why? What's your favourite thing to make? Showing that there's an Internet page for everything: What Not to Crochet

Yep, German Oma and Austrian Opa. :3 (And the coolest thing ever was that my Oma was born near a damn that had my Opa's last name plus there's a beer that shares the same last name as mine.)
Oh gawd! I just realized my boyfriend and I are born in towns that have the same name (yet are in different countries). CONSPIRACIES.
Ahem, *cough*, >_>
I really miss my crochet hook. I won't see it until tomorrow.... and I have plans for it. Simple, easy, hopefully done that night and take pictures and share plans. ninja

I started off knitting, but I just couldn't get a handle on it. I made a couple of scarves and a hat. Then I tried crocheting and it's so much easier for me! I'm still a newbie and am still learning, so my projects are small. I did crochet a stuffed monkey wearing tube socks. My goal this year is to make something to wear, like a jacket or sweater. Awesome blog btw! It's too funny whee

heart Too cute. I used to crochet sweaters for my stuffies. I'm terrible that I start stuff and then don't complete. So, in actuality, I've only made and completed three skinny scarves.

i'm a hooker! lawl, bad joke. [:
I love crochet. I've been doing it for a while now, a couple years or so. I can't for the life of me figure out how to knit. All I can manage is the knit stitch. It's frustrating.
I'm also lazy because I'll make stuff and never bother with gauge or any of that fluff. I guess if I ever get into make real clothing items I'll have to pay more attention to that type of thing.

We all learned to crochet in grade school, made the usual scarves, hats, afghans, etc.,nothing we had to really worry about gauge or pattern with too much. Then my Mom decided she wanted to make something that required following a pattern. She had me help her figure it out (I wonder if she REALLY needed my help?) and we both learned to follow directions! I knitted one sweater years ago, and enjoyed it, a long sweater with a huge cowl neck collar. I still have it and wear it, and the girls even like it! I'd like to knit again someday. What about macrame? Any other "knotty" girls out there? lol

What's that? hee hee wink I never gauge...but then I've never made anything of real importance. I will of course when I make something that actually has to fit. But even now, I'm making a hat for my brother and it calls for a 4mm hook and the closest size I have is a 3.75mm. I'm making sure that I don't stitch too tight, heh.

within the past year all I've done is randomly practice the knit stitch with some homespun yarn I don't care for. So I have this long block of knitted yarn that at best could serve as a shawl or a kitty bed.
The nights are getting colder and it has me thinking that I'd really like to work on a blanket. Like the old granny square type blankets.

I'm a knitter, and I work at a craft store. Bit of news for ya if you don't already know: Try checking out the yarn section of your local Michaels Crafts or A.C. Moore. I know my local Michaels has started selling organic cotton yarns, and they feel so soft to the touch. They've also started selling yarns made of bamboo fibers - a renewable resource. Where the cotton feels almost more like wool, the bamboo has a nice silky feel. Both are wonderful to work with, whether you crochet or knit, and are also great to make baby clothes with.

I'm both. I started out crocheting for a really long time and eventually learned to knit. I like them both for different reasons. Crocheting is way faster, but knitting looks 10x better most of the time.

Just my luck that when I start to run out of the chenille yarn I'm using, the local Michael's stops selling them. Apparently, to get the yarn, I have to go to the next closest store, which is a 45min drive. I just can't afford to right now. So my capelet will have to wait. sad

I'm a crocheter and I'm very slowly working on learning how to knit. I have a weakness for crocheting doilies but I never know what do do with them once they are made because I'm really not a doily decorator.
I've been buying yarn at my local Dollar Tree, they've had some really neat novelty yarn there recently.
I would eventually like to learn to spin but I think that's still a long way off for me.
