This had to be the best day of Yeesha's life. Or, at the very least, it was one of the best days of Yeesha's life.
Seeing as summer was coming to and end, and fall was setting in, Jasper had agreed to take Yeesha to the beach for a day. He'd managed to get the day off work – which seemed to happen more and more now that he had a kid – and went out and bought Yeesha a beach set. A bucket, a set of shovels, and things like that, all for making castles in the sand. The alligator girl hadn't been too amazed by it, but she had agreed to tote it along. She would make someone play with her.
Upon arriving at the beach, however, the bucket was tossed aside in favour of shirking off her clothing to reveal her blindingly green bathing suit. She flashed Jasper a wide grin, before she picked up her bucket and made a mad dash for the lake. Finally, she was at the beach!

Laial didn't need no stinkin' bucket.
He had told Evan that as they ambled down the aisle at the local store that he didn't want any of that childish stuff -- no buckets, no shovels, no watershoes. Nothing. And yet now as he splashed in the saltwater with a gleeful Heiko happily flailing her flippers at him and chirring loud enough to rupture eardrums, he caught sight of the alligator girl's pail and shovel and was jealous. Laial sank down into the water, stretching out his tentacles and propelling himself a little closer to the shore, where Evan was laying on a towel and baking blissfully in the sun.
"Hey, hey girl...?" he called, a little wetly.

Yeesha spotted the dragon first. Her yellow eyes went wide as she dropped her pail, fixated on the strange creature that was flouncing about in the water. What was that thing? It was extremely loud, for one, but the alligator girl could ignore that. It was much too interesting to be concerned about the loud noises it was making. Was it really a dragon? Or was it some sort of crazy Lake Monster? Could it be… the real Lake Monster? The one the game was based on? Now she was curious.
Luckily, Yeesha didn’t have to do anything. The strange boy thing that was with the Lake Monster had spotted her, and was making his way over. She was a little wary at the sight of so many tentacles – she remembered that Zach telling her that tentacles could hurt – but for now she was out of range. “Girl’th not my name,” Yeesha replied and put her hands on her hips. “My name is Yeetha. Ith that a Lake Monthter or a dragon?” First things first, she wanted to know. Pleasantries could wait.

"Yeetha...? My name's Laial... Are you talking about Heiko?" Laial reached out a tentacle to wrap around Heiko, causing the dragon to make a soft murr of disappointment, relaxing a bit unwillingly, to see what her young keeper was up to. "She's a dragon -- a leviathan!" he announced proudly, reaching out his hands to stroke Heiko's head and pet her nose, causing her to butt her face against his chest with delight at the sudden attention.
Then he paused, peering at the girl. "You look like you're from D-Corp too," he finally said after a moment. "Don't you have a dragon?"

"No no no, Yeetha," the alligator girl tried again, though she knew her sound wasn't the right one. She may be able to say it wrong, but he had to say it right. "Yeesha!" There, there was better! She puffed out her chest proudly, glad that she had at least managed to say her name right. S's were hard though. One day she might learn them. One day, of course, would be whenever Jasper pressured her enough to change her speech habits.
Her expression turned to absolute glee when Laial said that Heiko was a dragon, completely disregarding the leviathan part. It sounded close enough to Lake Monster anyways. "The'th a dragon? A real dragon? Can I touch her?" Yeesha was already starting to walk towards Heiko, watching Laial's tentacles warily. "D-corp? Yeah-huh, of courthe. I have a dragon too! It'th jutht in an egg now! But it'll be big and black soon. Not a Lake Monster though..." She was a little disappointed that she couldn't have a bright, colourful dragon like Heiko but that was okay. Her dragon would be super cool.

"Oh, Yeesha," the nautilus boy said, nodding. He'd got it now, even though the girl seemed to have trouble with it. "You can touch Heiko, if you want." Laial rubbed the projection at the top of the leviathan's head, prompting Heiko to give a cooed, "goooooooood..." in response, and flick her long, shining fin out of the water, offering her scaled belly.
"Be careful, though," Laial said, drawing his tentacles in a little bit. "Once you start petting her she won't want you to stop and she can't go home with you." Proudly, he rubbed the coral-scaled... chest?... of the dragon, with a certain swell of pride. Here was someone younger than he was who liked his Heiko! Of course he had a right to be a little arrogant... right? "Does your dragon have a name yet?" He sounded a little excited.

Permission granted, Yeesha reached out to touch the dragon's scaly belly, giggling a little at the feeling. What a strange little dragon! She was a little jealous that she wasn't going to have a dragon that would have flippers like this one. It would have made playing Lake Monster with it so much easier. But perhaps it could swim. She had never met a black dragon before, so maybe it had flippers too. She would just have to wait and see.
"'courth thee can't come home with me!" Yeesha laughed at the thought. "Thee wouldn't fit in Jathper's car. I dunno how my dragon ith going to fit in hith car either, but I'm sure they'll figure something out." She continued to pat Heiko, enjoying the feeling of the scales underneath her fingers. It was nice meeting another scaled creatures. "Nu-uh. I dunno what to name it yet 'cauthe I haven't theen it yet. Do thethe thting?" Yeesha pointed to Laial's tentacles, changing the topic suddenly. She had remembered how dangerous Zach was, and she didn't want to get stung.

At all the attention, Heiko positively cooed, winding around Yeesha for a moment, gleefully weaving circles around the alligator girl, butting her nose against the scaly small body.
"Heiko has to sit in the back seat and dad removed the backs... so she fit properly..." Laial blew bubbles in the salty water, peering up at Yeesha, as she asked about his tentacles. A rather mischievous smile crossed his mouth, and he subtly stretched out his tentacles, letting them wiggle to their full length for a long moment before responding finally.
"Nope, they don't sting. They're just like the rest of my skin..." After a moment, mischievously, he reached out and touched the tip of one carefully to the top of her head. He always had liked handling things with them, after all.

The cooing was such a strange sound, but Yeesha decided that it meant that the dragon was happy. After all, she was acting like that little puppy the alligator girl had met in the park once. Of course, the puppy had only been like that with its human friends. All Yeesha had had to do was smile at it and it practically bolted in fright. There was something to be said about a mouthful of sharp teeth. But Heiko wasn’t afraid, and that was a very good thing, and thus deserved some hard-won praise from the alligator girl. “Good dragon!” She liked this Lake Monster. Hopefully her dragon would be this cool.
“I don’t think Jathper would move any theatth in his car,” Yeesha replied with a small frown, but her expression changed to wariness when Laial extended a tentacle. They were a lot fatter than Zach’s, she realized, and seemed capable of a lot more movement. Huh. “Tho you don’t thting…” That was good. She froze when the tentacle touched her, yellow eyes narrowing a little at the unexpected movement, but she didn’t bite. She did, however, swish her tail, and then bat the tentacle away none too gently. “What are you anywayth? Are you a tentacle monthter?”

At the praise, Heiko slapped the surface of the water with her finned tail, pleased, and continued to nuzzle at Yeesha. However, when his tentacle was swatted, Laial withdrew a bit, pulling the tentacle into his shell and making an unhappy noise. "I'm a nautilus and that hurt," Laial said, reprovingly, soothingly rubbing the end of the tentacle.

At the hurt comment, Yeesha turned her yellow eyes on the shelled Laial and simply stared. After a long pause, she asked, "What'th a nautiluth?" It was very hard to control her mouth, but she was quite proud of herself for managing it. Under normal circumstances she would have probably called Laial a baby for being hurt by such a meager blow to his tentacles, but she was at the beach today and she wanted to stay there for as long as possible. She had a feeling that if she started a fight with this Laial boy she would have to go home sooner then planned. "Ith a nautiluth a tentacle monthter?"

"Kind of," Laial said proudly, wriggling the tentacles as if flicking away the dull ache at the tip of the one. "I can swim in the water and all of that," he said finally, smiling again. He hadn't quite noticed all of those teeth.
Those were frightening teeth.
"I just like touching things with my tentacles," he murmured, a little subdued.

"Thwim?" Yeesha repeated, and then her grin widened. "I can thwin too! Really well! Do you thwin really well? Me and Jekel uthed to thwin all the time when we were little." She liked to think of the days when she had been a toddler as when she had been "little", and failed to recognize that she was still little. Not to mention she was most definitely younger than Laial. But that didn't matter to the alligator girl. It was bossiness that got you what you wanted, not age. And she was ten times more bossy than Laial. She would bet her tail scales on that.
At his comment she stared at him, before shrugging her shoulders. "But you gotta ask before you go touching thingth, even with tentacleth. I don't go around hitting people with my tail." She puffed out her chest, though she added a silent "unless they deserve it" in her head. No need to tell Laial that. "Tho are we going to thwin or thtand on the beach all day?"

"I swim really well, but my shell gets really heavy," Laial said. "An' I'm sorry for touching you anyway." Pausing a moment, he turned his attention to the patient Heiko. She'd been waiting attentively, circling around himself and the alligator girl while they talked, and now she turned her eyes to him pleadingly.
"Wim!"
"Heiko agrees, so let's swim," he said awkwardly, sinking into the warm salty water again. It was much easier than trying to carry on a conversation; he felt rather like he was getting snowplowed -- and by someone so much younger than he was!

Yeesha nodded sagely. That shell did look like it got heavy when they went swimming. But if he said he could swim then she believed him. So long as she didn't have to try and drag him back to the shore if he started sinking then the alligator girl would be fine. At the apology she merely blinked at him, before giving him an approving grin. He couldn't be all that bad if he was apologizing to her for the tentacle tap. "'th okay. You didn't know better."
She too turned her attention to the dragon when she replied, her grin widening when the pink lake monster agreed with them. They had come to they beach for swimming and that's what they were going to do! With a cry that sounded a little too much like a war cry, Yeesha dove into the water, swimming a circle underwater before popping back up. "Do you know how to play Lake Monthter?" She asked, as she circled Laial.
