Her friends tried, her familiar tried, but they just weren't the same thing. It wasn't what she felt she needed. Looking out at the waves rolling into the beach, Dory realised she ws becoming down, standing here thinking about what she didn't have. After all, she had children, she had friends, and she had good health. Those were all blessings.
And it wasn't as if she let herself get down like this often, after all her memory was bad, and most of the time she would collect shells, listen to the sea or be racing the seagulls along the beach.
Certain things triggered rememberance and she tore herself away, looking across the sea had done it, and standing there still didn't help. She pushed a smile on her face, and turned her back to the water, moving inland, across the beach and up onto the dunes. From here she could see the river that met the sea, and she moved towards it, deciding to walk along it until she forgot again.

 Just around the bend lounged Benoni, he watched the sun dance off the top of the river as it rushed to meet the ocean, like lovers who'd been apart for longer than either wished to be apart. His lion's tail flicked against the ground softly, his long lean legs were stretched out before him, as he continued to watch. He could remember the feelings of a lovers touch, the joy of being in love, being with someone you loved, his lavender eyes grew soft from their usual guarded look. The joy of bringing life to the world with your partner, but now he also knew the pain of it all, Benoni did not blame Kila for what had happened..not for what had happened between them, but he did blame her for the sour relationship between her and their daughter Anemone. Even his heart could not forgive her for that.. The ashen gray unicorn glanced towards the sky, wondering what he'd done to have such thoughts plague him on such a beautiful day, but with a sigh he shook his head, long curled locks shook around his face and down his shoulders as he flung such thoughts out of his head.

Dory started to hum, a few steps down the river her previous melancholy mood had departed, the maudlin thoughts quite forgotten again, and she was in good spirits.
She watched the flow of the river as she meandered along beside it, and as she rounded a bend in the river's course, she took her eyes from the water, having not been able to spot any of the shimmering silver fish that she found fun to watch.
Instead she saw something far more interesting, a grey stallion, with a horn no less! If she had met a, a, oh goodness what were they called? It kind of rhymed with horn..maybe he would tell her. Well if she had met a whatever he was before, she hoped she would have remembered. Hmm.
'Hello!' she called cheerily, walking up to him.

At the cheery voice, Benoni's gaze lowered from the sky to the mare coming towards him with a rather enchanting smile, it was so full of ease and happiness that he couldnt help but smile in return.
"Salutations.." He called out, his tail continued to thump against the soft earth as he shifted slightly, slowly pulling himself up from his laying down position. He was not a small stallion by any means, he towered over many others but he didnt do it with vicious intent it was just his size.
He didnt want to spook the mare, so he tried not to stand at an erect full stance, but kept a relaxed stance. His tail swayed out behind him, it was an active little part of his body, it seemed to have a mind of its own.
As he stood up, his mane hung down heavy in his face, giving his face a slight mysterious air about him...

'Goodness, you are huge!' Dory said, smiling up at the stallion. She wasn't a slight mare herself, she was not fat but stocky, she liked her food and why not? Food kept you healthy after all. There was also the fact that sometimes her belly tricked her, and not being able to remember if she had eaten she would sometimes eat twice in a short space of time.
The stallion wouldn't really frighten her, she'd happily try to make friends with even the most wicked Soquilis, though whether she survived such a venture was unknown.
Lost in her thoughts she looked up again, suddenly noticing a stallion.
'Oh, sorry! Wow, you're really big,' she said, unwittingly repeating herself.

Benoni chuckled a bit, she was an interesting mare indeed. Lucky him, he thought with a smile, he was growing tired of the humdrum mares that seemed to be plaguing the land, all so alike and similar one would think they were all one mare split into many.. He shook his head, spice of life was wasted on such creatures.
But the mare before him, seemed to have a spice all her own. "Aye, I am indeed.." He nodded his head, mane moving with each effort of his frame. "Im Benoni, and its a pleasure to meet you miss.." He bowed his head in respect to her, it wasnt something he did often these days finding many not worth the simple gesture, or found it wasted on them.

Dory's forehead wrinkled as though she were trying to puzzle out some complicated equation. What she was actually doing was trying to work out whether she had just repeated herself..
'Hmm?' she gave a small start, looking up at the tall grey stallion that had seemingly materialised in front of her whilst she was thinking.
'Hi there! My name is Dory, what's yours?'
Now the conversation really did seem familiar!
'Have we met before? You seem like someone I met recently.' she queried, not realising that she'd said hello to him literally a minute before.

Benoni's brows knit together for a moment, what had just happened. He stared at the mare for a long moment, wondering what he'd just missed but simply smiled at her instead.
"Well hello again Dory, Im Benoni.." He didnt chuckle at what seemed to be a short attention span, but continued to smile at her. " We just met a moment ago..I hope I havent become so bland to be forgotten already." He teased lightly, hoping not to offend her.
He really didnt want to offend her, she seemed to sweet for that. And he was sure she'd been treated badly from others for her lack of attention, or was it memory..hmm he thought, time could only tell.

Again? Oh goodness, there went her memory again. Obviously he'd already introduced himself and she'd just plain forgotten. He was striking to look at as well, and she stared at him for a moment, trying to will her poor memory into co-operating enough so that she wouldn't forget him again.
'No I'm sure most would not be able to forget you, but then they don't have my short-term memory problems.' Dory smiled apologetically, noting that he'd been nice enough to bring attention to what she'd done in a joking way.
'I've not met you before today though?' she asked just in case.

Ah short term memory, he thought with a nod of his head. That made sense, he smiled at her further. "I dont see it as a problem, more of a personality enhancement. No one will ever bore you, every day is brand new...and the past well, it cant truly haunt you like it does some."
He'd love to just forget things, but at the same time it must be incredibly frustrating to always wonder if you've eaten, or who you've met..where you've been or even what you've done.
"Trust me, I know a few who wish they could..or have." He shrugged his shoulders a bit. "So m'dear Dory..what are you doing out here on this lovely day?"

'Things suprise me day to day, but it's not all good. My heart remembers what my head doesn't, and so now and then truly painful memories crop up. Like when my mate left me..and I don't remember properly why all the time. Or the occasions when I forget my children's names.' Dory gave a weak smile.
'Trust me when I say I'd rather have a good memory sometimes.' she looked at him, then chuckled at his question.
'I don't remember, I think I had a purpose for walking inland but it's gone now.' she shook her head.
'And you? Were you out walking for a reason?' she could well imagine that such a fetching looking stallion had a pretty mate, or a loving family back wherever he called home.

"Ah, the downside of things.." He nudged her shoulder softly. "Im truly sorry..And your ex is an idiot to have left you m'dear..I see nothing wrong with you and you've a wonderful personality so far. Its really his loss..." He smiled at her, lifting his head giving his mane a shake.
"Well, I can give you a purpose. Would you like to walk the river with me? Its a beautiful day.." He bows his head to her, with a smile. He could use good company, and hers was wonderful so far. She had much more depth than the mares that he'd come into contact with these days.
"I was actually just enjoying the sunshine, its a good bit warmer down here than up in the mountain where I stay. I've only a daughter and grandsons to visit now and then, so days to myself are usually spent relaxing..I've no mate to fret over so.." He rolled his shoulders in a shrug.

'Oh no, I'm sure there was something I did to drive him away.' Dory replied. She really mostly couldn't remember all that had led up to Swafi leaving her, but she was sure that that the blame could be laid at her hooves, despite her familiar telling her in the most vehement tones at every opportunity that like Benoni, the little vixen also considered her ex a complete moron.
'I'd like that very much..' there was a breathless moment as one could almost hear the gears in her head turn, but luck was on her side and his name was thrown up for her to say.
'Benoni!' she smiled, almost giggling in her relief that she'd remembered it.
'Oh you have grandchildren? I'm not sure if I have those yet..either my children haven't, or they have, told me and I forgot.'
Even worse was the thought that one of hers had children but not yet told her.
'I'm sorry to hear that, were you lifemated as we were?'
Dory had suddenly recalled that they had pledged that to one another, it had given her a stab of pain to think on it, but she would rather talk to this nice stallion whose name would come back to her again she was sure..

" I highly doubt, any of the blame should be placed on your hooves m'dear Dory.." He shook his head, "I really doubt it indeed." His tail swayed out behind him, he just couldn't see why someone would leave her. So her memory was a bit sketchy at best, it really wasn't her fault.
As she produced his name, he couldnt help but grin. "See, your doing just fine..." He trotted closer to the river, the sound of the soft waves lapping at the shoreline were relaxing.
"I do, I have three grandsons. Though, I am only in two of their lives.." He wondered about the third, but kept his distance. "Im sure they would have told you..But, then again..my daughter Raina wouldn't tell me a thing so..Im not honestly sure if I have more grandchildren myself." He shrugged, there really wasn't anything he could do about it.
"Aye we were, she was the love of my life..Never saw it coming til it was to late..But, nothing to do about it now. What has happened, as happened..Just have to keep moving forward." He smiles at her once more. "Again, your ex is a moron."

Dory smiled and nodded politely. She didn't want to carry on trying to correct..umm, Macaroni? That couldn't right and her forehead wrinkled as she struggled to remember his name. It would come to her. She didn't want to correct him because he was being very nice to her..she was sure she'd done something wrong in her relationship but would never be able to put her hoof on quite what.
'Oh yes, I remember your name fine,' she blustered with a giggle. Panini? No, that wasn't right either. She to moved closer to the water; maybe he would say his name again..
'That's nice, you see them often?' she asked, adding;
'The two you know I mean.'
Dory nodded;
'I think I remember that he was my life. I know he was important enough for me to never forget his name, and I had children so there must have been alot of love. Though when I do remember it brings me pain.' she looked into the river.
'Do you like the sea?' she asked suddenly, nearly all of their conversation forgotten.
