Lexie scampered through the undergrowth, traveling at an almost fast pace. She kept flicking worried glances up at the sky as it became more and more clogged with thick black clouds, which willed her to keep going. At the first rumble of thunder, she uttered a discomforted, low squeal, and picked up her pace.
She was looking for anything that looked like decent, sturdy shelter, and by the look of the sky, it seemed like she would need it fast. It had been obvious for the last hour or so that a pretty nasty storm was brewing, and it had basically lept upon Palu Island with no warning. Now, Lexie was desperately trying to find shelter, as a storm was even more dangerous for her than most, as storms meant rain, and rain was a high health risk for her. She gulped, and flattened her ears and streaked forwards.
The next thing she new, she had darted away from her green surroundings, and was running full pelt across a sandy beach towards the sea. She screeched and skidded to a halt, and simply stared at the choppy water for a few moment, dumbfounded. She couldn't believe she had brought herself to the most dangerous possible place for her to be right now. The ocean.

Xi was swimming around in the ocean, in complete disregard to the weather. To her, during a storm was the best time to play around in, since the high winds created waves that rocked her around like a little toy. The thunder and lightning just added the excitement. And it wasn't all that dangerous to her. Being a Water Palu, she can just hold her breath whenever the waves submerge her and swim back up.
Still, she tried to stay near the shoreline during her playtime. It wouldn't be good if she drifted out into open waters and had to swim back during this ruckus. She heard rumors of big fish that could swallow a Palu up in a single gulp far out in the ocean, and she didn't want to risk that.
Flipping her tail in a carefree manner, Xi noticed a blue figure running out of the forest and onto the beach. The rain obscured her view, but she could see the green flames that sat on top of her ears. A Fire Palu. Out in this weather? That was unusual.
She dragged herself onto land to greet the stranger, and as she approached her, she finally realized something was wrong.
The rain was going to extinguish her flames at this rate! She must be looking for shelter out in this beach. Which probably wasn't going to happen without her help.
"Hey! I know someplace where you can keep out of this rain!" Xi called out to her. She hoped that she could find the caverns again, anyway. They might be flooded with water already, but it's better than nothing.

Lexie just stood there, staring at the waves as they crashed against the shore, not knowing what to do. If she stood out here, she was pretty much as good as dead, and the raindrops that started to fall on her face confirmed that. If she went back into the forest, she still wouldn't be much better off, but, it would be safer than here. Anywhere was safer than here for Lexie. She started, hearing the sizzling of her flames every time a rain drop hit them, and looked around nervously.
It was then that she heard a voice, a seemingly distant and muffled tone. She kept turning her head until her eyes caught the sight of another Palui emerging from the wash, calling out to her, signalling that they knew a safe place for her. She didn't even need to think about what to do - that decision had already been made for her - and she made a mad dash for the Palui, that she could now see was a water Palui, black in colour with rainbow patterns. As Lexie got closer to the Palui - making sure not too get too close in fear of being splashed by a wave - she called out in reply. "Thank God, please do take me to this place!" Relief echoed in her voice, but the panic still reigned strong. After all, Lexie was scared for her life.

Xi shook the saltwater out of her fur, even though it wouldn't be much use with all the rain pelting down on her. She then made her way to the blue Palu with a smile on her face, despite the desperate situation.
"Kay! You'll have to follow me!" She flicked her tail again, as if not understanding the urgency. Truth is, she tried to make herself seem happy so that the other female wouldn't despair as much. She herself was freaking out in figuring out which way would be the quickest way to the caverns. The closest ones were underwater, unfortunetly, so they'll have to make a bit of a trek.
With a small dance, Xi began to make her way north. Or what she thought was north anyway. It was hard to tell. But they should run into one of those large rocks soon, that might give them passage into the tunnels.
"By the way, what's your name?"

Lexie nodded quickly, and shot after the water Palui, panting lightly as she ran. She'd been running for a while now, ever since she saw the storm brewing, but hadn't found any safe sturdy shelter yet. She just hoped this Palui could.
It took a while for Lexie to register that the water Palui, female by the looks of it, had asked her a question. Lexie shook her head, then flashed the female a quick, weak smile. "I'm Lexie, pleased to meet you. What's yours?" She said very quickly, then continuing to pant. She probably sounded as if she really wasn't interested, but she was rather concerned about the sizzling of her flames that haunted her every second. She would be a bit more conversational when they were safe and...dryer. For now, her main focus was to not die.

Some of her forehead hair begun to obscure her vision due to the rain. Xi tossed back her head to get the strands out of her eyes, and resolved to clean herself up after they find shelter.
"I'm Xi! Nice to meet you!" She glanced back and chirped. Seeing Lexie's flames starting to fizzle only urged her to move faster and get them both out of this storm as soon as possible.
Squinting her eyes, she could make out the faint outline of some rocks alongside the shoreline. Xi checked her surroundings, to make sure that they weren't just random boulders and could lead underground. It was hard to recognize anything familiar with this kind of weather, but it did stir her memory a bit. Yes. She was sure that there were entrances here.
Putting on an extra burst of speed, she rapidly approached the one closest to them. She paused only for a moment to check out the surface before sticking a paw under the rock. It was wet, but she could feel air flowing around it. There was a hole in the ground that wasn't flooded. Yet.
"You'll have to squeeze in."She explained as she turned around and examined her. "I think you can fit through though."
Without hesitation, she flattened herself and crawled under the boulder. Her bright tail waved once before it disappeared into the darkness.

Lexie was rather surprised at the sudden, rapid burst of speed that Xi demonstrated, making her have to concentrate a little more on running to keep up. Lexie had always thought that Water Palui would be more...clumsy to say, on land, and that in the water was where they could emphasise there speed. She thought that there tails were heavier, thus making it hard for them to run very fast. But Xi evidently had proved her very wrong. But it wasn't like she was complaining as they drew up to a rather large boulder.
As Lexie's eyes fell upon the small gap that would be her safety, and as she watched Xi slip under it, panic began to set in again - she had been trying to block it out. The hole did look very small, and she wasn't actually sure if she could fit under it. She hoped she could, and she made a dive at the gap. Her head and upper body popped through, but her hind legs were going to take a bit more effort. Luckily, her flames were safe in here, and after a bit of wriggling around, the back half of her body joined the front half inside.

The cavern was suddenly lit up as the flames on Lexie's head scattered light everywhere. Her eyes blinked at the abrupt change but they adjusted themselves quickly. She added a mental note to have Fire Palu around when inside a dark area of the tunnels, that is, if she can convince them to join her here in the first place.
"Isn't this awesome! I found the enterance last week and I've been popping in here once in a while to clean it up!" Xi wandered further away after she had finished catching her breath. There were sporadic crystals and shiny rocks that were embedded in the walls and she marveled at them as she passed by. It seemed like every time she entered the caverns, she'd always discover some new passage or something.
Poking her head into a corridor, the sound of rushing water greeted her eyes. She remembered that she was accompanied by someone that wasn't as fond of water as she was, and immediately turned the other way.
"Let's go down here instead." Xi pointed to a corridor that was close by and thankfully less damp than the other one.

Lexie shook herself violently, trying to rid as much water from her fur as possible. She shivered a little, as the rain had seeped right through her pelt and to her skin, making her shake. She was glad that she could still fell the warms above her head as her flames flickered more comfortably in the shelter.
Now, Lexie looked around at the cavern. She noticed all the sparkling rocks too, and even went up to a white one close by, gazing curiously at it as it reflected the green light from the tips of her ears, as did all the other shining colours that surrounded her.
Xi's voice snapped her out of her semi trance, which was definitely for the best. She shouldn't have even slipped into a day dream anyway, not in this situation! She also suddenly become more aware of the faint sound of water bouncing off the cavern walls. It sent another haunting shiver down her spine, and she rushed to catch up with Xi, having faith that the water Palui would have a rough idea of where they were going.
Lexie decided conversation would be the best way to keep her mind off the possibility that at any moment they could be trapped in her, and she could most probably drown. "So, you say you found this place last week? How?" She asked, looking around as she followed Xi.

"Well I was swimming around this place, and I found an entrance to these caverns underwater." Xi began, prancing around at a steady pace. "I went in of course, and discovered that there were lots of rooms and other ways to get in. It's sort of like a secret base! Isn't that fun?"
She stopped at a fork in the path, and motioned Lexie to stay put. The Palu remembered being here before, but couldn't remember which way led to the big dry room where they'd have some peace. Sticking her head into the left corridor, she was dismayed to only find darkness and echoes of dripping water. The other one yielded the same results. If both of them were flooded, they'd have to turn back, and roam around some more...
"Hey. Wait. Lexie, can you check these tunnels out?" Xi flicked her tail towards them. She shouldn't even be considering the possibility of flooding. Not when she couldn't even see anything three feet ahead of her. Hopefully the fire tipped ears of her friend could shed some light on the situation.
