“Jathper! No, no, Jathper over here!” Yeesha tugged hard on her guardian’s arm, dragging him towards the kiddy wading pool. They had come to the park in hopes of finding Ana again, however the chameleon was nowhere to be found. Though quite disappointed, the alligator girl’s mood had quickly changed when she spotted a small pool designed for little children to splash in. It wasn’t as big as the pool at D-Corp but it would do. She hadn’t brought her bathing suit, but that didn’t matter. It wasn’t like getting wet bothered her.

Upon arrival at the pool, Yeesha rolled up her pant legs in a manner that put speed before neatness and then flounced into the water. Nearby children nearly got a whack to the head when she swished her tail, very pleased to be back in the water. “Yeesha mind your tail!” Jasper called, and Yeesha slowed the movement of the appendage down. She wanted to stay and play after all, not be dragged out for giving children nosebleeds.

What was it with Izzy and finding violent aquatic kids almost everywhere she went? At least this one didn't have poisonous stingers...there was, though, always the fact of teeth...

Henri didn't seem all that off-put when he saw that Izzy, already amongst the kids in the wading pool, was not affected by the sudden entrance of a green, scaly child. She was, however, forced to adjust her skirty bathing suit bottoms.

"Hi," she said, sloshing over to the new girl. She may not be from the same place, but she was definitely part animal! "I Idda-bewwa."

Izzy was probably lucky that Yeesha hadn’t considered her teeth to be something dangerous. She knew that she could tear the seats in Jasper’s car with them and eat food with them, but that was about as useful as they got. It was her tail that was the most dangerous, if only because she wasn’t always aware of how fast she whisked it through the air. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. She had been very aware of it that time she whapped a girl who had budded her in line, but that was a different story.

Yeesha looked up at the appearance of a smaller child, blinking her yellow eyes when the child came up to her. She wasn’t exactly used to having people just wander up and say hi, though that was quite understandable. People generally tried not to saunter up to alligators. But this girl looked almost as strange as Yeesha, so she probably wasn’t afraid. “Iddabewa?” Yeesha repeated the name with a small frown, not liking how long it was. “Iddy. ‘th your nickname now. I’m Yeetha.” S’s were still a problem. “What’th with the funny thcaleth only on your back?”

"Chie-tonn," Izzy replied, giving her back a little pat, "an' Daddy caw' me Iddy too." So it was perfectly acceptable for her new friend to call her something her father saw fit.

Now, she was prepared for the sudden 'wtf is a chiton' reaction both she and Daddy got almost daily. It was strange, how so many people didn't know what a chiton was. Wasn't it pretty self-explanatory? A horrible amalgam of slug, starfish, and armadillo.

Yeesha blinked. The scales were called a chiton? She was pretty sure they were called scales. Did this little girl have a new word for scales, or was she just referring to the big scale on her back? It was all very confusing. "You're name ith too long, tho I have to thorten it." The alligator girl's name only had two syllables, and now her new acquaintance also had a name with two syllables. It all worked out in the end.

"And what's a chiton? Ith it the big thing on your back or ith it thomething else? 'cause I'm thure that these are called thscales," Yeesha said matter-of-factly, tempted to put her hands on her hips. This girl was using strange words, and she wanted to know what it was all about.

"Pwates," Izzy said, patting her back again, "Called pwates. Imma chie-tonn anna girl!" Really, was it that hard to understand? Maybe she was using words that were too big. Honestly, she wasn't at all sure what half of them meant either way, only when to use them.

"What you?"

Oh, so the things on her back were plates. Come to think of it, they did kind of look like dinner plates. Yeesha could agree that they had been named correctly. "Okay, tho these are plateth. And you have thcales too." She nodded to herself, before the words finally clicked. Izzy was a kid like her, part animal and part person. But what kind of animal was a chiton? Oh well. She'd ask Jasper when she got home.

"'kay well... chiton'th are pretty weird looking. But it'th okay. I'm an alligator! Thee!" She grinned, showing her mouth full of very sharp teeth. "And I have a tail too." Yeesha gave it a wag, causing the water to swoosh. "I'm a Lake Monthter."

Izzy, of course, saw this as an opportunity to play! She gasped in fake fear, clapping her hands over her mouth. "Oh no! Lake monst'ew!" And so she started to slosh away, waddling awkwardly in the water. You could almost hear her little 'ehn's of exertion.

The gasp had Yeesha's attention in an instant, and her yellow eyes narrowed. Playing "Lake Monster" was one of her all time favourite games, especially when she played it with Simon. The larger the body of water the better, and while the wading pool wasn't ideal, it would have to do. With a predatory swish of her tail, Yeesha settled down in the shallow pool, crawling forward on her hands after Isabella. "I'm gonna get you!" She announced, using her tail to propel her through the water. "I'm the big green Lake Monthter!"

"NUH-UH!" Izzy said. Slosh slosh run! She stumbled around an older kid with a ball and yelped. She's never played Lake Monster before, but sometimes she played Ticklemonster with Daddy, so it couldn't be a whole lot different. just in water!

"Hewp, hewp, lake monst'ew gonna get mi!"

Henri looked up, startled for a moment, and then relaxed once more.

Yeesha's predatory instincts kicked in the moment Izzy stumbled. Her prey was starting to get tired, and she was going to close in for the 'kill.' It was a pity that the wading pool was so shallow. She would have loved to show off one of her water lunges. Unfortunately, even in her predatory mindset, she knew that lunging would only result in a bruised chin and probably a bit lip. It was better just to propel herself forward and try to grab her target. "Raaaaawr!" Yeesha roared, and gave her tail a big swish to propel herself at the chiton girl. She reached out with her hand to try and grab the girl's ankle, grinning.

Down Izzy went, splashing into the water and splaying out on the floor. Her ankle stayed in Yeesha's hand, but her palms were spread against the floor. The girl neither moved nor struggled.

Henri was suddenly worried.

"..." Yeesha let go of the girl's ankle and set it down in the water, head titled. Her prey had never gone limp before. The prey was supposed to struggle, scream, and just generally try to get away from certain doom. Did Iddy not know how to play? Maybe she was just dead. The alligator girl came crawling over on all fours and rolled the chiton girl over. "Are you dead? You don't have to die, you know."

Izzy did not roll over. From the waist down, she pivoted, but then relaxed right back to where she was. Her hair floated lethargically. Yeesha! What had you done?!

Henri leaped up and rushed into the water, pants and all, dropping to his knees beside his daughter. He grabbed her ribs and tried to pull her up but it was no use. Her head and hands stayed staunchly under water. By now, they had attracted the attention of a lifeguard who moved to help. Why would the girl not come up?!

Yeesha was speechless. She had never seen anything quite as strange as this girl, not to mention she had never seen anybody make that kind of position before. Was she really dead? Could she play dead? The alligator girl couldn't decide if that was really cool or really weird. Would she get in trouble for making this chiton face plant and die?

The answer looked fairly close to yes when an adult ran over to try and pull her off the bottom of the wading pool. Yeesha scrutinized him quietly for a moment, before she said helpfully, "I think she might be dead. Or playing dead. I dunno."
