1b. Phin's Response to Letter
PostPosted: Mon Sep 22, 2008 4:15 pm

~ Phineas Gideon Blake~

Name: Phineas Gideon Blake

Nickname: Phin

DOB: November 12, 1983

Age: Twenty Five

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 163 lbs. (Last time he checked.)

Build: Average, slight to decent musculature from his work. Doesn't really gain weight easily, has a pretty high metabolism.

Parents: Birth parents unknown, Acting parents: Gregorio and Tzigana Blake.

Sisters: None

Brothers: None

Description: Phin has shaggy, slept in red hair with red gold highlights. His eyes are blue, but his left eye is a shade or two darker than the right. He's tan from frequent hours outside in the sun with work with a very light smattering of freckles across the bridge of his nose. He stands around 6'1"and has four arms. Phin has a lean build with fair musculature. His ears are slightly pointed and are pierced. (Three piercings each. Right: Two studs in the lobe, a ring towards the top. Left: A stud in the lobe, and two rings towards the top.) His preferred wardrobe is comfortable and easy to move in. In warmer months Phineas usually wears wife-beaters in black, white, or natural tones. (This applies for pretty much all of his top clothing.) Cargo pants are always a favorite of his no matter what the season is. He finds them incredibly handy for stashing goodies. Its that or jeans, usually worn on the knees and heels from being so well loved and frequently worn. Phineas, when home or off visiting people he is comfortable with, often elects to go without shoes, leaving them at his own place or next to their door.

That's when he's not working though. Since he was a teenager, he apprenticed his grandfather and learned all things to deal with carpentry. Nowadays Phin makes custom pieces, be it hope chests, canes, doll houses, dressers, chairs, tables, pretty much whatever is asked of him. When working, he wears leather work gloves and steel toed boots, usually with a pair of safety goggles tucked in a pocket, worn around his neck, or over his eyes until a break or when he calls it a day.

Hair: Red to red gold

Eyes: Two toned. His left eye being a shade or two darker than his right.

Skin: Tanned from being outdoors frequently for long periods of time. A faint smattering of freckles across his nose and shoulders.

Likes: Alima, tea, sunny and windy days. Music!

Dislikes: Blackouts, having nothing to do

Favorite Color(s): Green, Chocolate brown, silver, deep blue, bright orange.

Favorite Food(s): Thai food, and virtually all kinds of sea food. Hearty foods.

Favorite Movie(s): So many to choose from...

Favorite Element: Tie between Air and Earth.

Zodiac Symbol: Scorpio

Chinese Zodiac: Boar

Special Interest: Phin loves music. He especially loves music with drums and flutes and guitars. If it has a good rhythm and can get him moving then its fair game to end up in his music collection, or if he's particularly fond of it, he may attempt to learn it himself. Phineas has been teaching himself how to play the acoustic guitar since he was around the age of sixteen.

Phin's Background: Phineas never knew his birth parents, having been given up for adoption around two years of age. His parents wished to have kept him, but a bitterly vicious civil war had broken out between a handful of Thysae tribes and they felt it wasn't a place to raise a son in. They gave him to the Blakes, whom they had a mutual understanding and decent kinship with for several years. The Blakes, unable to conceive children of their own, readily took the boy into their home and raised him as their own.

Growing up, Phin knew perfectly well that he was different than his parents and the other kids in the neighborhood, but didn't let that get him down. Sure, every so often there would be a few persistant buggers who would pick and tease until he lost his temper, but his parents were quick to let him know that resorting to physical violence was never the right thing to do. His life was a simple, yet happy one, filled with a supportive family and a few close friends that saw past his obvious differences. It was this time where he picked up the skills he would need to support himself in the future doing what he loved, woodworking.

He was fairly socially awkard in high school, prefering to focus on his studies and passing than to chasing around the girls. (Don't get him wrong, there were a few girlfriends during his schooling career, but none that ever went anywhere.)

Other: Once Phin opens himself up to his heritage, he'll have poly-amorous/polygamous tendencies, but if anything he'll stick to just two women and do his best to assure that he won't favor one over the other. (But, depending on how things work out, he may have a main wife and a secondary spouse in spite of his best intentions.) In his eyes it wouldn't cheating, it'd be sharing genuine love between himself and women that he would hold in the highest regard and respect.

Of course, there is always the chance that he meets a particularly strong willed man or woman that either want Phineas all to themselves or Phin wants to have to himself. In that instance, then he may well have only one significant other. A fact that he would be perfectly content with.

-=Relationships=-

Family:
Jonah Lawerance Blake - (Deceased.) He was my dad's dad. Granddad, if you will. Ha. He let me apprentice him as a carpenter. He scowled a lot and protrayed himself as a big bear, but he was a softy at heart. Very much a no nonsense type of guy.

Gregorio Tiberius Blake - (Deceased.) My father figure growing up. He was a regular human Gaian who was around middle aged with a great sense of humor.

Tzigana Hinapouri Blake - The woman who acted as my mother when I was little. She wasn't Gaian. I don't think I ever actually learned where she was from, but I gather it was far. I occasionally still ask and she just laughs and says something about her birthplace being over the mountains and across the sea. She loves her riddles and poetry so I may never get a straight answer out of her.

~From Whence He Came~
Phin's Racial Info

An inch and a half inch thick leather bound book sits on the coffee table in Phineas' living room, largely untouched. His mother, Tzigana mailed it to him not too long ago. After his father died, she took to travelling, studying, and documenting other cultures. As she went, she wrote in a private journal for herself and in that book for Phin. When she filled it cover to cover she had it mailed to him. He occasionally skims its contents, but usually only the preface, which is a seven page long letter written to him. He'll get around to reading through it eventually.

Pg. XII, in the leather bound book on the coffee table
Race Name: Thysae (Plural: Thysae)

Life Span: Fairly long lived. If healthy and well cared for, a well off Thysae can live up to 200 years.

Characteristics (Physical): Overall, humanoid with the exception of a few features, namely their four arms and gently pointed ears. Average heights range between 5’0” and 6’11’; builds vary from slender and willowy to stocky and well muscled, but most fall in between.

Personalities: As varied as any Gaian.

Lifestyle: Merchant/ traders/ farming (sometimes nomadic, moving around in troupes or caravans); Medium sized villages are common, and occasionally will form small cities. (Rarely.) Often live in clans or family groups, be they nomadic or stationary. Polyamory is frequent but not the standard of things. Usually males are the ones with multiple wives, but a woman with a couple of husbands isn’t unheard of either, especially if she is well to do. The ratio of monogamous to polyamorous relationships is about 60/40. Men and women are generally treated as equals but occasionally in some regions there are slight matriarchal or patriarchal tendencies.

Religion: More spiritual than religious, I’ve observed. There are a pair of main deities that are common amongst the Thysae. A god named Vyraelys, whose influence is varied from region to region but in most cases he boils down to a protector and provider. (He covers everything from farmers and hunters to warriors, to fertility rites and comings of age.) As well as a goddess, by the name of Jhori Kolaes, who reigns over the hearth and home, families, childbirth, growing things, and the elderly. She is a nurturer and an all-mother, a bringer of life. Most Thysae have some belief in spirits of elemental forces or ancestors. Those that do believe offer these spirits respect and reverence, and occasionally an offering of aromatic incense or a sweet cake and a goblet of wine on special, sacred days.

Language(s): Common (Gaian), Thysae (Including various regional dialects)

Music: They're music is similar in nature to that of gypsies or belly dancing music from the sound of it. Strings (guitars, mandolins, dulcimers), pipes (flutes, panpipes, tin whistles, and a few I'm not familiar with), accordions, finger symbols, and drums are instruments that are frequently used. A good majority of the music has an upbeat sort of tempo that is almost impossible to resist jumping up and dancing along to it.

Courting/ Romance: In more urban environments I've noticed that bisexuality and homosexuality are more prevalent than in the Thysae caravans where there are fewer options in the prospective romantic interest department. I've also come to witness in the extreme rural areas, arranged marriages are not unheard of.

Males: Once reaching the age of manhood, generally accepted as being between the ages of seventeen and twenty, a young male Thysae can strike out on his own to form his own household and begin courting a woman that strikes his fancy. (Or a few women, or even men, if that is their preference.) Generally this is after he has gotten a trade and gotten a home for himself.

Courtship is usually started when the young man goes to the woman's parents house and states his interest to her parents in their daughter. If the girl's parents agree to let him proceed then the young man is free to court her however he wishes. It can last for a month or two up to a year or longer, depending on the couple. One the woman, or man, is sufficiently wooed, the young man can ask for her hand in marriage.

Females: Girls are generally accepted as adult women from the age of seventeen and are then allowed to make themselves known to any potential interested men, or if she's more certain with whom she has an eye on, she can initiate courtship herself. The courtship is the same for women as it is for men.

Young women generally stay with their parents until the age of twenty (if no one expresses interest or are too shy to speak up), then they either can set out to start homes and families on their own without the aid of their parents keeping an eye out for potential matches, join a priestess-hood for their deities, or move in with some relations or friends who are close to their own age. Either way, they get a gentle nudge out of the house to get her own life really underway.

Notable members: Amaro and Zinita Naevon, Phineas Gideon Blake*

*Keep in mind that his mother wrote this. Most likely when he notices that he is in the book, he'll probably put a post-it note over his name. Modest fellow. Heh.

Home is where...

User Image

Kitchen/Nook/Pantry: Ceramic tile floors are in off white and cobalt blue. Counters are in a warm hued marble. The walls are painted in a pale sunny yellow. Stainless steel kitchen appliances and sink. Pantry is well stocked with non perishables, the center leaf for the dining table, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, and cat supplies.

Dining Room/Great Room (Living room/Den area): Hardwood floors with large windows and plenty of natural light coming in. A nice table with a mildly rustic feel sits in the center of the Dining Room surrounded by four chairs, one per side. (Can seat up to six once leaf is put in.) A few pieces of simple art adorn the neutral colored walls. In the great room, a pair thick cushioned plush seats form an L around the rustic coffee table and TV. Along the wall behind the couch and the wide reading chair that is just a few inches shy of being classified as a love seat is a built in bank of bookshelves. (Which also hold a stereo system, a globe, and a folded up towel that Alima has claimed as her bookshelf bed.)

Master Suite/Sitting Room: A roomy and cozy bedroom with oatmeal hued carpeted floors also lets in plenty of natural light, especially in the morning as the large windows face east and the sunrise. The walls are a vivid dusky blue and there is a vague sort of middle/eastern European feel, with a very faint hint of Asian influence. Phin has a bit of a taste for that sort of culture. (Very early remnants of recalling his people and their culture, traditions, and style. He wasn't taken into the Blake's care until he was a little older than two years old.) Complete with a small wall hanging tapestry, a few interesting old black and white photos, and a framed oval mirror.

The carpet continues through the archway in the bedroom into the sitting room. There is a small wall mounted bookcase along one wall, two comfy chairs in the center, and a few potted plants in two of the corners. There are two or three area rugs in here and handful of candles on the chair side tables that help add a certain ambiance to the room.

The master bath has marble tile flooring with a simple cotton/bamboo mix rug on the floor. (Marble floors get chilly in the winter months.) Two sinks with a large mirror, frosted glass shower/bath combination with plenty of elbow room.

Spare bedrooms: Simpler than the master suite. Equipped with just the basics of a bed (A queen in one, a full in the other.), two bedside tables, and a small dresser. If Phin ever needs a little boost in the money department towards paying for his house, he intends on maybe renting one or both out.

Back Covered Porch: A weighted plastic outdoor set seats five and looks out over the backyard. Also on the porch is a chiminea outdoor fireplace to help warm up on cooler days or roast marshmallows if the mood so strikes him. (You're never too old for s'mores after all.)

Backyard: A medium-large wooden shed stands in the back right corner of the fenced in greenery lined backyard. The center of the yard is clear of obstacles and Phin often works here when he has a project that he has taken on.
