Gaia Name: Chronic Coke
Character Name: Mariko Otori
Status: Student
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Race: Looks Human-ish. Is a mix (more info in Extra).
Appearance: (Picture above, minus bow). The feature that makes Mariko stand out the most is her rainbow coloured hair, given to her by all the cross-breeding in her family. Her hair is the only odd feature about her though as the rest of her just looks plain human. Her bright blue eyes are pretty but often blank and emotionless. She is a pale girl that never seems to get a tan, no matter how much time she spends outside. She is quite short but slender with small muscles on her arms, stomach and legs.
Her clothing is mostly the same black salior dress with the crest of her family stitched on the breast. (Basic pic of dress here: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/PhantomRocker/img___5_918_7113_.jpg ) On formal occasions she will wear armor with a dress fitted for a female warrior. Never the less; her whole wardrobe is black and no item does not have the family crest on it. Her hair is often tied up into a rough bun with a black wool beanie placed on top.
Height: 5’2
Strengths: Mariko is very flexible and has had a lot of training in sports such as gymnastics. She is intelligent, being able to pick up things with ease and always aiming to excel. She has been trained in her families style of art, using the metal claws (pic in weapons) and has had training in a sword but her skills with a sword are still severely lacking. She has had training in ballet but has stopped since her move to the House of Bricks, as her father has decided nothing of further use can come from her lessons. She is also trained in Hand to Hand combat although not strong enough to deliver any bone breaking punches.
Weaknesses: Mariko has never fought or experienced someone who has a special ability that uses it so her knowledge to get around such attacks is very limited. Mariko has certainly fought her share of fights and injured a few, but she has never actually killed someone. Mariko is also not very physically strong and her perfection-obsestion can be her down fall.
Weapon: The weapon Mariko uses the most are her metal claws, made out of light weight metal as she is such a small girl. (Rough pic done on paint: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/PhantomRocker/untitled-1.jpg )Mariko holds the chain and throws the claw bit to attack enemies. She can also use them to climb up walls and such. Mariko also has a plain short sword, which she rarely uses.
Personality: The best way to describe Mariko is that she is simply disciplined. Her face is often blank and from an early age, has not shown much emotion. Mariko is often considered as a bit of a snob and in some situations, probably is. Mariko is quite unsure around characters who are quite blunt or are concidered 'common' as she has not really socialized with anyone who was not taught to act in a proper manner. She is very proper and is not the type of girl to be giggling about silly things or participating in tasteless jokes. She is quite a nice girl, even if a smile is a rare thing and although she wouldn't be able to help you with any problems, she's happy to give you a shoulder to lean on, as long as it is in private of course. No good making a scene in front of everyone.
She is a very determined girl though, often spending most to all her time training or studying. She recognises authority and if anyone with authority over her tells her to do something, she doesn't need to be told twice. Her determination though can also cross her as a bit of a b***h as well as nothing stands in her way of reaching excellents. She has great pride in her family and is looking to make her father proud.
Bio: Mariko was born the second child of the first born Otori son. Since her mother and father belong to the immediate Otori line (are closest to the blood line), Mariko was taught respect and honour at a very young age. Since her father, Otori Daiichi, had already obtained his rightful heir with his first born son, it was decided that Mariko would be educated into the perfect lady in waiting. That was until her older brother’s accident.
Mariko’s older brother had been pushed into training and excelling from a young age as the rest of his siblings and cousins had. One day when out for a horse ride with a servant, his horse got spooked, causing him to fall. Although he survived, he suffered major brain damage, which caused him to become bed ridden and cease his training. Mariko’s parents tried for another boy but only produced two more girls until Mariko’s mother passed away with the birth of their fourth child, another girl.
There was a time of depression for Otori Daiichi, morning for the loss of his wife and coming up with four girls but no boy. One day, Mariko’s teacher approached Daiichi and commented on the girl’s quick ability of learning. Mariko was six at the time and currently beginning to learn her characters. She was already top in manners and edict and had been taking ballet for some time now. It was this simple comment that gave Daiichi a brain spark. Mariko would become a fine warrior, the first Otori female warrior.
At first there was some out roar against his decision. Eventually though, the rest of the family began to see Daiichi’s point of view and began to pressure Daiichi into doing what he set out to do. At age seven, Mariko’s training began. She first started training using the traditional Otori weapon, the meal claws, gymnastics, horse riding, sword fighting and other odds and ends, including her ballet as her father believed she could use what she learned from the dance in her fighting.
Because Mariko was the first female of her family, Daiichi often told her she had to work harder than any other male, to prove that she was as talented as they were and ultimately better. Mariko’s life became strict, full of training and preparation for training. She had no time for friends, messing around or even time to sit down and read a simple book she had chosen herself. Her diet became controlled, only allowing her to eat things that were suppose to better her in her training, even her times for sleeping, eating and bathing were enforced. When Mariko eventually turned seventeen, Daiichi decided she needed to become knowledgeable in every fighting style and technique. She was told to pack her bags and move to the House of Bricks. So Mariko made the trip across the water from her home town Telegar in Ninden to Magdia and traveled south by carriage to Guren.
Extra:
Info on the Otori family: Mariko’s family, the Otori family is a rare, noble and well known blood line. It was originally created by lots of cross-breeding among various races. It can to a point that each offspring born took on random characteristics of the different races. When this occurred, the whole family line became strict with marriages, keeping matches between distant cousins to keep their various traits and genes. The family is very concerned with appearance to the public and public opinion. They are a well known and highly respected warrior family who are known for their discipline, courageous and honesty, also their brutality and often no mercy fighting and unique fighting styles passed down through family. Magic and other such abilities are a common trait among them, but are banned by parents from being used or developed, as fighting with a weapon is considered the ‘honorable’ way and the way they are know best at. The Otori family is also known for their strict qualities, such as religion, behavior and even clothing.
Her country: Mariko made the trip across the water from her home town Telegar in Ninden to Magdia in Kolanter and traveled south by carriage to Guren. Why the long travel and the choice? Mariko’s father decided she needed training that would make her stand out from the others and made a special effort to send her to a new country to do so, so her training could be pointed out as different than the others. Because of Ninden and Kolanter’s previous wars, some family members disagreed with the choice Daiichi had made. But since the wars were currently at rest, Daiichi determined it was safe enough for her to travel.
Mariko speaks with an accent that belongs to Ninden.
Markio would be considered a pretty girl but her blank stare and disaplined behaviour often scares the male side off quickly.
