Kiso had been traversing the roguelands for a few days now, and had not seen another lion in just as long. He wasn't even sure if he was headed in the right direction. Had that falcon said left at the large boulder or right? Or was it the large tree....? Looking around him, the red lion felt quite baffled, and a bit worried, since he could not see anything resembling Pride Rock in any direction. As he stopped to consider this, and turned around to scan the never ending grass around him, he realized that he completely lost track of which direction he had been going at all.... Uh oh....
Sighing to himself, and turning once more, Kiso spotted a lone tree a ways off. He was fairly certain it was not in the direction he had been going, but it was something, and there might be water. He would need a watering hole at some point, and perhaps there would be someone to give him better directions.... Once again he cursed to himself that he had not traveled this leg of the trip with Malik, his brother seemed to know what to do more often than he did.
And his brother was a better fighter, which Kisogo thought about as he neared the tree, which did prove to have a watering hole, and spotted another lion shaped figure at it already. He was not entirely sure if he should approach for water or wait for the other lion to leave... He wasn't very strong, well, for a full grown adult that is.... Gulping, he traveled a few more paces hesitantly...

Hippolyta sighed as she raised her head from the water, drops falling from her chin as she licked her maw. That drink had been just what she needed, truly, and it did more than just slake her thirst. It also helped steady her mind and bolster her strength, the form sorely needed. After meeting Amisi the hybrid, the black lioness was in even more turmoil over what she was to do now.
Part of her wanted to turn back and return to the lands of her birth, to give up this quest for cubs that she had started for all the wrong reasons.... and, truthfully, to have a chance to get to know Amisi a little better. The pretty female was much on her mind right now, though she chalked it up to being the first female she had met on her journey that wasn't related to her or in the allied pride, Mwako'bi'Giza.
And then there was the other part of her that said things would not change for her if she went back now. She'd still feel out of place and a little lonely, that much she knew. And on top of that, her mother had looked so proud to see her setting out on this quest, fulfilling her role as heir and adult lioness. What would Kiuma think if she came back, dragging her paws with her belly still girlishly flat? And if there was anything in life Hippolyta wanted, it was to make her mother proud of her.
Settling back, the female began to wash her forepaws, using it as a distraction for her mind.

Completely oblivious to the history of the lioness in his sights, Kisogo sighed and decided that she looked fairly non-threatening. If anything, he was a bit larger and his throat was protected, so he had a natural advantage if she was a violent lioness. With this in mind, he closed the remaining space to the watering hole, though gave her a polite girth, as was customary of unfamiliar lions. His throat was dry as the dirt beneath his feet, so he was unlikely to have passed up the water anyway, and as he lapped up a few refreshing mouthfuls, and pleasant smile came to his face.
With that immediate need satisfied, Kisogo looked across the water to the dark female. She was quite beautiful, really, though the tooth necklace gave Kisogo's stomach a bit of a flip. He ate meet off of bones, sure, but those teeth looked like those of a predator, making him worry that she took pride in killing other lions. He had heard of stranger customs after all....
Shaking his head absently, though, the male cleared his throat a bit and spoke aloud, "Hello there, what brings you to the watering hole?" Though his voice seemed a little high for his size, Kiso hoped that he didn't come off as too nervous, since the truth was, he still had those childish fears of random lion attacks.

Glancing up, the dark lioness blinked at the voice that suddenly came from the watering hole, finding herself doing a double take.
She'd known, in the back of her mind, that someone had come down to the water for a drink, but that same part had reassured her it was no threat so she'd gone on to finish her paws. That's why it was such a surprise to hear it speak to her and even more of a surprise that it was a strange form of lioness that was the speaker. She'd be embarrassed about it later, but she stared like a child at the lion, blinking slowly in confusion over the thick fur around her... its? neck. What sort of lioness had fur around its neck like that? Wasn't it hot? Didn't it get caught on stuff and get in the way?
Her mind flooded with questions, she didn't answer right away. When she finally realized what she was doing, she shook herself and shoved a smile onto her face, trying to appear polite and friendly.
"Oh, um, Hello. I... came for a drink, it being a watering hole and all, and I was thirsty from my travels." Her words stumbled over themselves and she struggled to calm herself. "My name's Hippolyta." She burst out impulsively, laying her ears back shyly.

Kisogo smiled, relieved at the non-aggressive nature of the female. If anything, in fact, she seemed quite confused, which in turn confused Kiso, but he staked most confusion directed at him to his coat coloring, and so shrugged it off. She was probably also not native to this land, so they were both nervous about the unfamiliar territory. Though her staring set the red lion off a bit, it more saddened him that others couldn't see past his coat color, since that was what he assumed she was staring at. Despite this, he wished to remain on pleasant terms, so he took another lap of water and spoke in return, "It is good water isn't...." Chuckling a bit, his voice deepening back to its normal timber as he relaxed, he smiled at her name.
"Hippolyta...." The word sounded a bit foreign to him, not quite the style of the pridelanders' names, and she was of a coat color he didn't see in his homeland. There was something beautifully exotic about her. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Kisogo. So you're traveling through the roguelands? Or do you live around here?" Was that too pushy? It sounded a bit pushy. Hopefully she wouldn't think so. Hopefully she didn't hit him! The thought made him a bit nervous about what he had just asked, but there was nothing to do about it now.... Now he just had to hope that she didn't hit him.... And look like nothing was wrong of course. Which of course made him act just a bit unnaturally cheerful and polite.... Oh Kiso....

The dark female lowered her head a little, forcing a smile on her face.
"Oh, no, just traveling. Seeing the sights and meeting people, really. I spent so much of my life in my pride that it was time I got out and learned about the world. You probably don't think much of that, you're probably well traveled and learned." She said as she shuffled her paw in the dirt, fidgeting before she bent down to get a drink from the water, letting the liquid cool her mouth and insides, helping to settle her stomach and nerves. She didn't really think anything of what he said, beyond a friendly sort of curiosity from him. How was she to know what males thought or did? They were even more alien to her than to the ones that grew up around them. She vaguely wondered if she'd ever fully understand them, then was glad she lived where she wouldn't have to.
"Do you, um, live around here?"

Kiso liked it when the dark female smiled. She had a pretty smile. His eyes hung on that sight for a few moments before her words shook him out of his admiration. So she wasn't around here... She really was exotic. Well traveled and learned? Him!? Kisogo hoped that the blushing wasn't visible under his already red coat. No one had said something like that about him before!
"Uh... I... uh...." Nice job casanova, she's not going to think you are learned anymore! Oh! A question he could answer successfully! "Yes!" He might have answered that one a bit loudly in his excitement to actually say something intelligible, "I mean, yeah, I grew up in the Pridelands. I'm out here, uh, scouting...." That was a good reason right? Much better than the truth that he was just wandering because he was bored and didn't want to further upset his mother. "I, uh, I haven't actually traveled that much.... I mean, my father was a Fireki-" Kisogo's eyes grew wide as he realized what he had been about to say. He had no idea what pride this female came from. The way the Firekin had been, they might have slaughtered her family or something. Or she could be descended from escaped slaves.... In any case, it would be better not to attach himself to such an infamous pride before he knew how the female would react. "I mean, besides scouting around the roguelands in this area, I haven't had the chance to travel that much. But the Pridelands is nice! Have you ever been there? I could, uh, show you around, if you wanted...." At some point during his embarrassment, Kiso's eyes had lowered to the grass. Now he peaked up shyly through a tuft of mane that had fallen in front of his face. He didn't know how to court all that well, but this seemed like a good safe way of going about it....

The black lioness smiled and perked up, her ears forward.
"The Pridelands? I've heard of that place, a little. My mother was born there and spent her childhood there. She did a lot of traveling before she founded our pride, but she has told me how lovely the place was, though life was slow and easy, hardly a challenge for someone as outgoing as she is." She chuckled at that, shrugging.
"I don't really... have the time for a lot of exploring past here. I'm supposed to be heading back soon, sort of, and I can't go too far." She tried to put him off that idea, already feeling just a tad uncomfortable in his company and worried that too much of it would really put her off. She didn't really want to get off to a bad start with the first adult male she'd met. Better to keep the contact short for now, with good things it it, than to stretch it out and risk bad.
"But thank you for it! I really do appreciate the thought behind it, even if I can't."

The lioness' positive response to his offer made Kiso hopeful, but then she made a perfectly good excuse. Sighing a bit to himself, the red male tried not to show his disappointment too obviously. Despite the fact that he knew it would likely be most tactful to make a convenient exit now, since the lioness obviously didn't want to spend time with him, what she had said a moment earlier stuck in the lion's mind. Her mother had been born here?
"My mother was the sister of Mufasa, so my family has been there for a long time.... If you don't mind me asking, who is your mother? And do you know who her parents were?" Kiso couldn't think of any dark females in the pridelands during his childhood, but perhaps he was forgetting someone, or perhaps the female took her coloring from her father instead.
In the moments that preceded before the female's answer, Kisogo felt the need to make some action to fill his time. Dipping his head once more to the water, he lapped up another mouthful, though his stomach was already sloshing with liquid. If he kept this up, he wouldn't be able to run, lest his stomach slosh back and forth the entire time.... He really did need to find better ways to deal with his nerves than sticking the first edible thing he saw into his mouth....

Hippolyta tilted her head, with its bright red flower, and looked thoughtful.
"My mother's name is Kiuma. She didn't talk much about her family, but since I'm going to take over for her one day, she felt I need to know... well, nearly everything. Its hard to remember it all, but... Mufasa might have been her father's name. You don't suppose its the same person, do you?"
A thrill of excitement surged through the black female at the thought. Family, outside the pride? Lions she'd never known existed! And how far did the family stretch? Her immediate was large enough, but if she even had just one or two siblings and they each had as many children... the thought was almost staggering. It gave her a strange feeling of awe, and even more a need to return to her home with the small(er) family of her own, where she was safe from the hordes outside.
The thought came too... how many males out there was she related to? What if she found one to breed with... and he was of blood with her? It wasn't a pleasant thought.

Kisogo's eyes lit up as the female mentioned one of his many female cousins. "Oh yes, that's definitely the same lion, I think there was only one Mufasa in the pridelands anyway, but Kiuma was a cousin of mine! My litter and hers were birthed around the same time, so I remember!" Smiling happily, Kiso was obviously quite excited about finding another branch of his family. He had known that the cubs of those two litters, as well as Suku and Jasiri's, had spread far and wide after they had reached adulthood, mostly because so much change had happened in the pridelands that they had all felt a need to get away from the stress. Well, that had been his reason for leaving for a while at least....
Shaking those unhappy memories away from him, he replaced his thoughtful expression with the beaming smile once again, "So I guess that makes you my niece! How great!" Despite the fact that the lion was the lioness' elder, he wasn't very good at acting like the adult that he was. Perhaps that was why cubs liked him so much, he just wasn't good at acting like an authority figure....

Hippy laughed with Kiso, though it was more at the thought of this male being a relation to her. The concept of an uncle, or even a father, was an odd one to her, hard to understand and grasp the feeling someone born outside would normally have towards said relative. Still, it was quite a revelation to find someone she shared blood with outside her home, when she had been looking for something far different.
It made her realize, though, how little she knew, and it wasn't a feeling she really cared for. She was supposed to be a queen someday, a leader, and how could she do that when she was constantly showing herself as something lesser? Knowledge can be power, right along with the strength of a body, and she vowed to herself that she would have both, in time.
"Look, its was... really great to meet you, and I'm sorry I have to cut it so short. But... you've raised a lot of questions for me, and given me a lot to think about. I think I'd best be heading home. I need to know more, if I'm gonna be... who I want to be." She turned to go, before turning her head back to give Kiso a deep nod and a smile of friendship. "I hope to meet you again... Uncle. Stay safe until then, alright?" She flicked her tail before she trotted off, feeling like she'd suddenly broken from the cover of the trees of her childhood to find the world of adulthood a far vaster place than she had thought.

Kisogo relaxed noticeably when the dark female laughed along with him, there was nothing more embarrassing than being the only one laughing.... But just as he was starting to get used to the company of this unknown niece, she drew the meeting to a close. His smile fell briefly in surprise, but was quickly restored, if a bit weaker since he wasn't truly feeling all that happy any more. It got a bit lonely from time to time, wandering around in the roguelands, and he felt so ostracized from most of his family that he had hoped they could be buddies. But it wasn't to be, and he simply nodded acknowledgement of her statements, though he didn't entirely understand all of what she was saying. Why wouldn't she be who she wanted to be? Shaking his head briefly, he smiled fully when she called him uncle, and responded, "Have a safe journey home!"
Turning away from the meeting place himself, Kiso looked back towards pride rock, still apparent off in the distance. It felt at times like he could never escape the place of his birth, and this was one of those times that he wished he could. But that, too, was not meant to be, at least not today, he mused, as he headed back to the lands that he called home.
