So long it's been...how are they?

A red figure stood near the borders of the Pridelands as she had for numerous months since the incident with two young, cubs being left on the doorstep of the pridal dens...barely an hour or so old and away from their terrible mother.

Kianga was still distraught.
After moons she still held the wound of losing one of her first cubs to her foolishness, or what she thought was her foolishness, but was just the fate of sadly many cubs who died in their first short moments of life.
But she didn't see it as that.
She saw it as her foolishness, as her unreadiness to care for a litter and so now she stood here in her own mind as an outcast....unworthy to return to the pride of her own birth.

A fly buzzing past her ear brought her from her self-hating thoughts, making her shake her head with a small snort...it was quite hot today wasn't it?

With a sigh the sleek red female padded through the long grass to a nearby rock, laying herself atop the flat surface as her eyes peered over the distant sight of Pride Rock.

Kisogo had been pacing through the grasses ever since he returned to the Pride Lands. He hadn't dared enter back into the heart of the lands for fear of seeing his mother. He was afraid. It was a foolish thing to be, but he couldn't help it. He was afraid that the news he would have to tell her would break the old lioness. There was so much that had already happened to their family, if his absence prolonged the peaceful time Koho had left, he had to stay away didn't he? He had wanted Malik to come with him to talk with Koho, but it seemed less and less likely that his older brother would agree to it.

Just as the lion was about to turn him back to the roguelands which so tempted him with freedom from his guilt, he caught a familiar and old scent in his nostrils. It was a female lion, that much was sure, but something in the tendrils of wind called him back to his childhood. Looking around once more, the bright red lion forgot his worry for a few moments as he went to investigate this strange occurrence.

It was easy to follow his senses to the area of the lioness, but before he became visible, he stopped himself. Perhaps it was a stranger who only reminded him of times gone by. Perhaps it was a friend who he would no longer remember. Whatever he decided, it needed to be fast, since his scent would soon give his position away.

Still engrossing herself in her thoughts of the cubs she left behind and how awful a lioness she was, it took her a while to actually pick up on the scent of a male lion close by....just reminding her how badly she needed to get back into the swing of hunting.

Pushing herself up from her rock in a flustered hurry the lioness' eyes darted around to see if anybody was sneaking up on her.
However a few moments of this just ended up with her being dizzy.
Calm yourself woman! Her inner self shouted.
Taking a few deep breaths she caught the scent again, taking a deep breath...funny....it smelled familiar...
In the back of her mind she couldn't help but fear it was one of her cubs, one of her lonely cubs been left for a better mother and shrunk back slightly.

Oh by the Ancestors she couldn't let them find her, what would they think of her!?
Then again....they probably wouldn't know her straight away, there were a LOT of red lionesses afterall.

Clearing her throat for a moment she tentatively called out to whoever was there.

"H-Hello?" She started. "Is someone there?"

Kisogo's paws had stopped him out of sight of the lioness, but not out of ear shot. He heard her question, and at that moment, the voice was all he needed to fit the puzzle together. He would never forget the voice of a lioness he had rolled through these grasses with sooooo many moons ago. A sister was always familiar, always family. And perhaps another of her cubs returning would distract Koho from the lack of information about her mate!

Breaking through the grass, Kiso had a broad grin on his muzzle, reminiscent of the cubbish personality he had so recently shed. At least there was some happiness left in the world. He called out eagerly, "Kianga! Is that really you?!" Racing up towards the boulder she was sitting on, Kiso's ears were straight forward, really looking like a cub now.... Well, except for the mane....

The red lion was amazed at how his sister had grown, but she still had the tear streaks that so many of Koho's children had inherited from her. It was a wonderfully easy way to identify each other really. That and the fact that they were some of the few lions that had half firekin and half pridelander blood flowing through their veins. As far as Kiso knew, they were the only litter with an even distribution from those two prides....

Shaking those thoughts from his head, he put his front paws up on the rock's smooth surface, wanting to be near her, but also not wishing to frighten her if she didn't remember him straight away. He didn't really need a whack on the nose any time soon....

A momentary lapse in balance at the calling of her name caused her to double back slightly onto her haunches before she spun her head around to peer at the large red blob heading towards her.
For a split second she assumed it was one of her cubs, till she fully took in the sound of this voice and her eyes widened to the hilt.

She remembered now.

Playing between her mother or fathers paws with her golden and crimson siblings, uncaring of her origins, happy to be in the warmth of her beloved family and after so long she almost hated herself more for seemingly forgetting them all.
But now...well..
Staring at her younger brother with still wide muddy brown eyes she didn't know what to say....or even do before a small smile split her maw, but so much emotion poured from it as she moved closer to him.
Muzzle meeting his cheek and mane in a small, almost unbelieving touch to make sure he was really there before she let out a small laugh that was almost to the edge of a sob.

He was real.

He was really real.

"Kisogo...it's you, you're really here!"

Kisogo worried for a moment as his sister didn't react immediately. What if he was somehow wrong, and this lioness was merely a look alike? What if he hadn't seen her in so long that he had somehow forgotten his own blood? What if she didn't remember him? But then her eyes widened, those eyes that the two had inherited from their mother. And then she smiled and relief flooded through the grown lion who had been feeling much like a cub at that moment. That smile mirrored on Kiso's face, but wider and more exuberant.

At some point Kiso had removed his paws from the side of the boulder so that he could stand stably, and he felt his sister's muzzle on his cheek and in his mane. Something about it reminded him of putting his own cub-sized muzzle into his father's mane, and he could only hope that Kianga had positive memories related to such an action. Smiling at the lioness, Kiso butted his head against hers, and rubbed his own cheek along her neck, taking in the smell that he remembered from childhood. There was so much to be said, so many questions to be asked, but for now, all he wanted was to enjoy the company of his older sister. She had inherited their father's red pelt, but she still had the tear marks, and if Kiso didn't look at anything else, he could almost pretend that everything was happy again and that his family was whole, because he had found his sister.

"I'm here Kianga! I am! And so is Mother!"
