I find myself in a wonderful, if somewhat overwhelming situation.
My English teacher and I are conspiring to develop a creative way for my to earn my final credits for the subject, and has graciously agreed to cater to my fascination with Victorian fiction. She has assigned a paper on Verne's classic "Journey", and has given me free reign over the topic. My reaction could be accurately described with the popular "kid in a candy store" metaphor. So many options! At the moment, I'm interested in exploring the line between Verne's applications of Victorian science and his descent into pure fantasy, but that may have to change if I'm unable to actually discover where that line lies.

Gentle friends, I ask you: any ideas? Advice? Interesting factoids? Have you learned anything on the subject?

Thank you for your time. :]

I've only read Journey to the Center of the Earth once. While I enjoyed it, my favorite is still From the Earth to the Moon because while flawed in some technical aspects, it was still ingenious and well thought out in many ways leading up to the launch. It was also amazing how many things he wrote that were similar to the actual space program. Florida base, 3 man capsule, Pacific splashdown.

I just finished Verne's Clipper of the Clouds (aka Robur the Conqueror) which was quite similar to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea but set in on an airship.
