From afar, it seemed like a blessing for the little colt. The sky was covered in clouds, and for once he felt compelled to leave the forest's shade. His dark body wasn't being tortured by obnoxious heat-waves, and this also meant that he could take some time and figure out freedom and responsibility own his own. His older sister had been taking care of him like crazy, especially since his horrible occurrence just weeks ago. He was aware that she was worried for him, but Tsaphiel knew it was hardship that made everyone stronger. His father had explained it to him well, and he was ready to understand true pain and strife on his own. Pain was only a part of life, and his scars would leave him stronger for time to come.
He had to admit though, not having dozens of eyes watching him felt sort of odd. His family had become a sort of blanket for him, and now he was truly on his own for the day. And in truth, he didn't even know where or how to start!
With a step forward, he decided to make his way out of the woods completely and in to an open pasture, and he tried his best to keep his confidence high and his shoulders higher. No reason to be intimidated... he sensed no need for fear or worry. And, if he were to get attacked again, then the fates would truly be playing with him. Tsaph liked to believe that his earlier hardship was just a test, and his father agreed that he would truly be something once grown. He'd never let something like that happen to anyone as innocent as he in the future, and he had taken it upon himself to follow a very meaningful vow for time to come.
.... But for NOW, time to be a foal!

The day had dawned in a way Tiarnan loved. Misty, with a high chance of rain.. and the spirits lively upon the favorable winds. His mother and his brother were otherwise occupied.. and for the first time in days, Tia had managed to evade his father's... attentions.
Not that the consistent workload was too much for him, oh no.. he was perfectly capable of performing as his father wished... Spinning, spearing, lashing out with his tiny hooves in timed drills... really it was almost too easy. Likely when put to the test he would sing a different tune, but lacking real word experience, the dreamer continued to dream.
He just.. didn't like too fight. Not when the clouds were rolling in to hide the sun, and the world changed in a new and exciting way. Shadows were a rarity for the bright young colt, as he was rarely out when the night fell, nor when thunderstorms threatened. Always he was bustled into a protective thicket or inside Pathen's teepee.
So off he went, exploring the outermost limits of the 'allowed' territory.. and after a quick glance over his shoulder... set off beyond them. Today would be HIS day, he decided abruptly, rustling his small wings so they lay smoothly against his side. He would be back so as not to worry his mother, but he really didn't want to be found before he had too...
Yes, today he would make a point of finding something new.. something exciting he could tell Galahad about... but make him promise not to tell a soul.

Tsaphiel continued walking as bravely as he could, and as his eyes ran across the distance, he wondered if he was the only one really out and about. To many the day might have seemed kind of gloomy, but Tsaphiel was investigating in high spirits and high hopes as well. There had to be something around him, since this was freedom! It was important that he learned as much as he could about freedom, and became more confident on his own. This opportunity didn't come around often!
His eyes did do a double take suddenly, and he realized he might have spotted something in the distance. It looked like another colt, and Tsaph wondered if he should check it out. A part of him was nervous, while the other part of him was curious. So really, that was enough mental encouragement to get him to move forward and see the colt! To meet someone outside of his family? That would be awesome!
He tried to quicken his pace a bit, and he kept moving forward until realizing he was getting very close to the fellow child. "He-Hello?" he then said, while stopping himself because of the much closer distance. The colt was much more unique looking then from afar, and Tsaph stared at his wings and horn with careful eyes. How cool!
"How are you today?" Well, it was an attempt at being social, and Tsaphiel realized he was being much too hard on himself. He was focusing on what his parents had taught him, and wasn't acting natural in the process. Hopefully the other colt wouldn't laugh at him too much, and Tsaph thought hard on what could save him socially. "I like your wings a lot!"

Tiarnan had paused his illicit jaunt to sniff a damp clump of heather when the strange voice called out. The initial shock of being found out so soon sent him rolling into the bush, and he came out of it with a few burrs up his nose for the trouble. Irritated, he blew his nose out loudly, sounding for all the world like a braying donkey.
Thoroughly embarrassed now, the white and gold colt brought his head around with an audible snap, unconsciously looking up for the telltale signs of a skyborn stranger.... or worse... his dad. Seeing nothing immediately, his gaze traveled down as the voice continued, until his bright blue eyes finally fastened on the moving shadow...
With the damn coolest wings Tia had ever seen. TWO sets, with the second being almost... see through!!!
Naturally, he couldn't help himself from saying exactly how he felt on THAT subject, especially when the strange colt introduced the subject so readily!
"Gee thanks! But have you seen YOURS! Those are the coolest! Can you fly with them?" He blurted out as he trotted over excitedly, thoughts of strangers, being hurt and his training flung unceremoniously out the window. Never mind that he couldn't see the other colt's eyes... that was just another feature of the stranger Tia found fascinating.
Yeah, who needs introductions...

Tsaphiel felt an immense smile land on his face, and a part of him gleamed at the other colt's response. Never had another been so energetic and friendly! It was a nice change from his very quiet family, and Tsaphiel wondered if he was allowed to be as enthusiastic back. No use in trying, right?!
"Thank you so much!" he then said, while flapping his own wings comfortably. "I hope to fly soon, but right now I am still a tad wobbly to learn. Why, do you know how to fly?" He dropped his jaw a bit and stared curiously at the other colt. He didn't think it was truly possible to fly until he saw his father do it! And in truth, it looked awesome! Tsaphiel was somewhat nervous to try it himself, but he knew he'd get it figured out eventually.
"I'm Tsaphiel! What's your name?" he then said, with a big head bob. A part of him wondered, what was another colt doing on his own. Or really, what were the both of them doing! Maybe this guy had the same idea as him!
"I'll admit, I took the day off from my family..." he then silenced himself, and wondered if that made him sound rude or anything. "But man, it feels good to be on my own!" He twirled in a circle, before landing happily in front of the other again. "This is my first time away from my family, so I am sorry if I seem overly excited." he then admitted, while wiggling his tail. "I've seen other colts wandering on their own, but my family is much to crazy. They always have to be watching me, always.." he then lifted his head upwards, and looked to make sure no one was flying overhead. "Ugh, they are probably here somewhere.."

"It's a pleasure to meet yer acquai...ten..ance... err... nevermind... it's justa pleasure Tsaphiel!!!" Tiarnan replied in kind, thrilled at the notion of finding someone as cool as this colt out here beyond the borders. "I've taken an errr.." he stops, brow crinkling in thought, before his expression softens. "Extended constutiionallle! Yeah, I'm on an extended constutiionallle from my family too!" Galahad would surely love to hear about this adventure later!
"Funny about your folks being here somewhere..." he added, looking around. "I'll bet they'll run into my dad... 'cause I'm sure he followed me too. " The thought amused the pale colt, and he chuckled.
"I'm called Tiarnan by the way! But my family just calls me Tia." He added, nonplussed by the feminine character of the nickname. His father wasn't pleased by it, but Tia had recently discovered that the sun rose and fell all on it's own.. and didn't need his father's help at all. "And actually, I haven't tried flying yet myself... my dad can.. but he says I'm too .. uh... 'ungainly' to try it yet." he paused again, as if in deep thought, before continuing excitedly. "Is ungainly the same as wobbly?"

Some of the words Tia said were confusing! Tsaphiel felt sort of dumb for not understanding, and he wondered if he should ask. He didn't want the other colt to not like him because he was maybe immature... Ah well, he was confident enough to take any doubts on! "Umm, what's constutiionalle?" He wiggled his nose as he asked the question and watched carefully. "You must be smaaart Tia! I need to learn new words like that." Then he could impress his parents whenever he spoke!
"Oh! I have a nickname too! You can call me Tsa if its easier, my dad does that a lot." Maybe it was because he and his sister had similar names, or maybe just because it was fun for his father. "Well unfortunately we both have protective parents, and that can still be good at least! That means they are always watching and caring. My dad said once I grow I'll be able to be independent so, I think we'll be ready by then Tia!"
Well, Tsa liked to HOPE he'd be ready. He liked having his parents watching, but that was only because he still had a lot to learn. "Ungainly?" Tsa shook his head lightly and tried hard to put the two words together. "I'm not sure if they mean the same thing, but I understand wobbly! I am wobbly sometimes even when I walk.. but don't worry Tia, flying is much different. You can be wobbly in the sky since your wings will always hold you up. I think it might be fun to be wobbly, since then you may do all kinds of tricks without even knowing." Tsa would probably try some tricks as soon as possible, even if his parents seemed uninterested on that subject.

There had been times (like during drills) that Tiarnan sincerely doubted ever being 'independent' of his father, so it wasn't all that odd for him to feel a slight twinge of envy that 'Tsa appeared to have an easy enough relationship with his father that allowed for the topic to even be brought up between them. He tried not to let the thought color this awesome new meeting though, so with a mental shove, he pushed the ugly little thought away and grinned broadly at Tsaphiel.
"I'm not all that smart, my mom and my uncle Flame are pretty smart... so I just listen to them as much as I can." He replied, rustling his wings lightly when he felt an itch.
Of course, that itch moved to a different place when Tsa mentioned Tiarnan's favorite word.
Tricks.
"Now that you mention it, I guess being wobbly in the sky could be kinda fun.. if our wings do always hold us up." He said, unaware that he was now fidgeting. Oh how he wanted to fly! And dive! And swoop!
And really throw his family for a loop when they tried to look for him on the ground!
Well, now that he thought about it.... "Hey, since we are both on extended constutiionallles.. you wanna go exploring with me?" He asked, a mischievous light sparkling brightly in his blue eyes.

Tsaphiel had to admit, this get-to-know one another was going damn well. First he had met a colt with complete kindness, then he realized said colt had a ton in common with him. And NOW this buddy was inviting him to go out and explore! "I'd.. I'd LOVE to explore!" If his eyes could have gone wide, then they were definitely widening in exclamation. He was the luckiest colt in the world right now, and he wouldn't ruin this moment for anything!
"How about you lead the way?" Tsaphiel, although tough in his own strange ways, was happy to follow when he felt the moment was right. And right now, he wanted to give that respect completely to Tia. Tia seemed totally able when it came to exploring, plus it was common courtesy, since Tia had invited him as company.
Oh, how his parents would have been proud. Especially Angel, for hoping to raise such an angel!
"Well, when the both of us do fly we can practice tricks together. I mean... I like to hope that I won't grow up and be completely boring or something. I want to try crazy things, and just remember to have fun you know?" His voice was in an eager tone, since he was constantly nervous of what was expected of him as a future adult.
"Ugh, I hope I'm not all matwuuure like my older siblings. They just look so bored sometimes." He half-snorted and half-pouted in response, and lowered his head quite lazily while considering the thoughts. He'd like to believe that he and Tia could fly and have fun when they were older. But hey, that's what dreams were for!

"Matwuuuure huh? That's what adults call'emselves right?" Tia asked, quickly latching onto the new word with glee.
"I sure hope we don't look bored when we're older then... but y'know.. it might be something that has to happen.. what if our faces freeze that way once we grow up?" Momentarily horrified by the thought, Tia nearly forgot all about exploring until a passing butterfly reminded him of it.. and he recalled the rest of Tsa's words.
"I don't mind leading if you don't mind wandering.. since I don't exactly know where we are going..." He said with a mischievous grin. He had a few ideas though, born of passing rumors and snippets of conversation he heard between his family and herdmates. "You ever been to a hot spring?"

The thought of anything freezing was rather terrifying to Tsaph as well, and he only closed his eyes and shook the thought off as if it never existed. That was his favorite method when anything was too scary! "Well my parents said that my older siblings grew up much differently in appearance, but their personalities remained the same. So honestly, I think we'll be ok. As long as we have a choice, I am ok with some change." And with that, a sigh of relief huffed from out of Tsaphiel's mouth. He would have hated to freeze or remain exactly the same!
"Thankfully for the both of us I'm rather good at wandering!" The colt then puffed his shoulders out, since he had been meaning to practice that move for awhile. "I wander all the time, since I think the best things are found out of being lost."
As he finished his thought, he jerked his head upwards at the words of his friend. "Hot spring? What is that?" Was it like a volcano or something? He couldn't imagine it was anything THAT dangerous, but still, he was intrigued! "Heh, you can be my teacher on this subject as well!"

Excited beyond all rational explanation, Tiarnan jigged lightly in place as he launched into a full scale recital of hot springs and all he had heard about them. Of course, if he and Tsa didn't fully realize the implications of some of the dirtier jokes passed around, there were no adults around to be scandalized anyway... and as far as Tiarnan was concerned... anything said in front of him or within his hearing was fair game to be repeated and memorized.
"Oh goodness, Hot Springs are great! They are rock rimmed ponds usually... and very very hot! My Uncle Toujours was telling my mom about a particularly large one that he thought she and my dad would enjoy! Really private, and with this special kind of moss growing on the rocks that glows at night!" He said, moving off a few paces without thinking. He knew the general location of the spring, his Uncle gave very clear directions and Tia considered himself something of an expert on communication and deciphering 'adult talk.' He wasn't smart like and adult yet, but he sure hoped to be some day!

Tsaphiel was sold to the idea just from his buddy's reaction! He himself got rather excited, and the thought of anything warm was definitely drool worthy. "Oh my gosh, it sounds awesome." he then admitted, while watching his friend patter around in his own excitement. "So is this area something special to your family? Because if it is I'll keep it a secret!" The dark colt then nodded his head rather boldly, and knocked his hoof of the ground triumphantly. "If its important I'm really good at keeping secrets. So let me know and I won't let your family down!"
Despite the dramatic interval, Tsaphiel was truthful with his words. If Tiarnan was showing him something only his family knew about, Tsaphiel would be careful to keep it just as private and special! He had his own family secrets too, so he understand the idea of keeping some special areas private. "I hope its not too far, now I am all excited and stuff." he then added, while wiggling his body after the other colt's. "But even if it is I've got your company to keep me totally happy!" He bobbed his head wings innocently while smiling towards the other colt. He didn't mean to sound like a suck up, but he was totally enthralled.

Briefly considering whether the place was really special enough to warrant herd protection, Tiarnan disregarded it with a roll of his shoulders. He hadn't quite grasped the concept of territory yet, and saw little reason for one group of soquili to claim special rights to an area when (to him at least) it was far simpler to just share.
Anyway~!
"I guess it's ok so long as you let someone know you are coming?" he replied with a lopsided grin, reaching a compromise in his mind between confusing adult concepts and a child's whimsies. The hot springs were not very far from the borders (which was where he was now if he were any judge of terrain) and he suspected that his Uncle did not quite adhere to the whole 'them' and 'us' thinking that his own parents subscribed too.
Then again, that very thinking was why he had chosen to escape the endless drills today, and seek a little fun!
"And it shouldn't be too far! C'mon!" He said with a wiggle of his small body and a exuberant grin, darting to the left swiftly. Tsa was way beyond what he thought he'd meet today, and he was clearly unable to express his happiness through words like Tsa was.. so he just did what he did best and smiled at his new friend with all the enthusiasm and trust glittering in his eyes. They'd have fun only because it was he and Tsaphiel, not because of the game!

Well, all was settled in Tsaphiel's mind! With no hesitations he followed his new friend and did his best to stay running next to him. It was probably annoying that he asked so many questions or analyzed situations too much. But he did worry for others since he'd never want Tia to be caught in trouble or something!
The running felt good for his legs, and he knew when they arrived to their destination his legs would feel even more relaxed and rested from the water's touch. He was also glad to be the one following at the moment, since he wasn't the brightest when it came to trails and paths. Plus, he couldn't fly yet so his wings wouldn't be of any use or anything if he did get someone else lost! Sadly he had gotten his brother and sister lost before, and if it wasn't for his older sister they would have roamed around in circles for many hours."I can't wait to see a hot spring!" he then exclaimed while panting lightly under his speech.
For some silly reason he always tried to talk and run at the same time, and his father had explained that doing such was an easy way to waste any stored energy. At the moment though Tsaphiel felt as though he had all of the energy in the world. So, how could his father know if that was entirely true? Should he stop talking then? Meh, no way! "This might be a random question, but do any fish swim around in the hot spring?" Tsaphiel wondered if they too went in the hot springs to relax. To him fish would be problematic, since he'd probably try and chase them by instinct!
